Day 16 of our ADHD Friendly Advent Study is all about embracing the beauty of simplicity while nurturing our chaotic brains. We dive into the Scripture from Luke 2, reflecting on the incredible yet understated birth of Christ, packed into just a few verses. It’s a reminder that we don’t need to meet any rigid standards; instead, we focus on what resonates with us personally. I encourage all of us to grab our workbooks and find a journaling style that suits us, whether that's writing, typing, or even recording our thoughts. Let's explore how unexpected changes affect us and allow ourselves to engage with these prompts in a way that feels authentic, because at the end of the day, we’re here to support each other on this journey of faith and self-discovery.

It is day 16 of our ADHD Friendly Advent Study.
Speaker A:If you are new here, no you are not behind this study is designed to be low effort and high impact.
Speaker A:There is a suggested schedule in the free workbook I have put together.
Speaker A:If you are more of a structure gal or you can do it all in one sitting, you can do little bits.
Speaker A:Whatever you choose, it is designed to support the brain that God gave you instead of working against it.
Speaker A:If you've never seen my face before, my name is Rachel.
Speaker A:I'm an ADHD and a Jesus lover and I help women with chaotic brains see, seek, find and live the abundant life that Jesus offers.
Speaker A:So go grab your workbook, download it, print it if you're gonna do it by hand.
Speaker A:Or you can do it digitally.
Speaker A:Whatever works.
Speaker A:It was designed again with simplicity in mind.
Speaker A:So how this is going to work I'm going to tell you about today's homework.
Speaker A:The There's a couple things that I'll have you do.
Speaker A:We're going to listen to this week's song again while reading the lyrics.
Speaker A:This week's song is A Little Town of Bethlehem.
Speaker A:I really like the Vineyard Music version so so take a moment here, pause this video, go listen to a little town of Bethlehem and really pay attention to the lyrics and then come back here.
Speaker A:We will read through today's scripture reading.
Speaker A:Then I will tell you about the journaling prompts for today and turn you loose to go and do them.
Speaker A:Okay, this is the part where you go listen to a little town of Bethlehem.
Speaker A:If you did that, let's just go ahead and move on.
Speaker A:If not, pause here.
Speaker A:Go listen to the song while reading the lyrics and then come back again.
Speaker A:Vineyard music is like my favorite version for today's scripture reading.
Speaker A:We are in Luke 2.
Speaker A:We have been in Luke 1 for the last two weeks.
Speaker A:Now with week three we are starting Luke 2 and we are reading one through seven.
Speaker A:I am in the ESV.
Speaker A:In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.
Speaker A:This was the first registration when Quirinius was the governor of Syria and all went to be registered, each to his own town.
Speaker A:And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth to Judea, the city of David, which is called Bethlehem because he was of the house and lineage David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
Speaker A:And while they were there the time came for her to give birth and she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in A manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
Speaker A:It's wild that the most important event in all of scripture happens in like one little sentence.
Speaker A:Like all seven of those verses.
Speaker A:The birth of Christ was crammed in there, and it was in the last.
Speaker A:The last verse, really, at the end of the day.
Speaker A:I mean, six a little bit.
Speaker A:And then seven.
Speaker A:Oh, my gosh, I have little kids.
Speaker A:So six, seven is like just constant in our house.
Speaker A:But between verses 6 and 7 is what we get to know about Jesus birth.
Speaker A:It's wild, right?
Speaker A:Okay, so now we're going to move into some journaling time.
Speaker A:I would highly recommend grabbing a physical journal.
Speaker A:If that doesn't feel like something you have the energy for today, that is totally fine.
Speaker A:You can type out your answers.
Speaker A:You can even record them in a voice memo.
Speaker A:If talking seems a little bit easier or.
Speaker A:Or if all that feels inaccessible today, that's totally fine.
Speaker A:You can just sit and kind of think through the prompts.
Speaker A:But what we really want to be focusing on is turning our minds to Christ, even if what could be considered the ideal feels out of reach.
Speaker A:Because too often, especially with how ADHD brains can work and how neurodivergent brains can work, if we can't achieve what looks like the norm, we feel like we don't even need to try.
Speaker A:Or why even try?
Speaker A:Because we're not going to meet that standard.
Speaker A:So we're all about getting rid of standards and working with the brain that God gave us.
Speaker A:And here.
Speaker A:So the scripture prompts for today, we are looking at scripture journaling prompts one and two in the workbook.
Speaker A:I have the workbook downloaded here.
Speaker A:This is what it looks like.
Speaker A:It's all, like, nice and has cute colors and all of the things that you need.
Speaker A:There's even like a nice little picture on the COVID I tried to make it a little festive while keeping it mostly functional and most importantly, un overwhelming.
Speaker A:So the first journaling prompt, which I will read you the prompt and then give you a second to pause the video and go journal.
Speaker A:The first journaling prompt is, have you ever had to pick up and go on an extended trip unexpectedly?
Speaker A:What was that experience like?
Speaker A:And if you haven't, what is the closest, closest experience to having to do something like this?
Speaker A:So pause the video here.
Speaker A:If you need to hear the prompt again, you can rewind the video.
Speaker A:Pause here.
Speaker A:Go journal.
Speaker A:However that's going to look like for you today and then come back.
Speaker A:Okay, and now for the second scripture journaling prompt for today.
Speaker A:Imagine that today you find out you have to put your entire life on pause and travel somewhere because the government is telling you to.
Speaker A:What kind of disruption would that cause for you and what emotions would that bring up?
Speaker A:Pause.
Speaker A:Here, go do your journaling and then we'll come back and finish out the video.
Speaker A:Okay?
Speaker A:Did you do it?
Speaker A:If not, this is your second chance to go pause, do the journaling prompts, and then come back.
Speaker A:But we will just go ahead and move on.
Speaker A:I as someone who has a lot of moving parts in my life, I have three kids on two different custody schedules who go to three different schools, pools.
Speaker A:I cannot even imagine what my life would look like today if I had to pick up and go somewhere.
Speaker A:Now.
Speaker A: d moved to Guatemala in about: Speaker A:And that was really fun and exciting.
Speaker A:But we didn't have kids at the time.
Speaker A:So especially with kids or anticipating a child, I cannot even begin to imagine what was going through.
Speaker A:Mary and Joseph said I I.
Speaker A:It's crazy, right?
Speaker A:Like, these are, these are the questions I hope to ask them someday and like understand more.
Speaker A:But it's wild to think about.
Speaker A:But okay, that is all I have for you today.
Speaker A:Thank you for joining me.
Speaker A:Make sure you download the workbook again.
Speaker A:That's at the link in my profile that is available to you for free.
Speaker A:If you would like to buy me a coffee to say thank you, you can do that at the link in my profile as well.
Speaker A:Also, all of these videos are uploaded as podcast episodes in my podcast, the True Grit Podcast with Rachel Grit, which also, you guessed it, is at the link in my profile.
Speaker A:I hope I will see you back here tomorrow.
Speaker A:Make sure to share this video with a friend.
Speaker A:Give it a like, give it a thumbs up, whatever the case may be.
Speaker A:What platform are we on?
Speaker A:And I would love to hear from you.
Speaker A:All right, I'll see you in tomorrow's video.
Speaker A:Bye.
