What part of the world are you in today?

I am currently in Hays in Middlesex in West London.

Tell me, how did you come to meet Jesus?

I came to meet Jesus at a time when I was really fearful.

I had returned with my parents from the UK to Trinidad, and my grandaunt, my grandmother's sister, was ill.

She had a stroke, and I would always go into her room when I visited and play, and she would speak just above a whisper, you know, to me.

And we had a relationship that way, and then she passed away.

When she passed away and at the wake, somebody said, when you die, that's it.

And that terrified me.

So that was my first call to prayer.

You know, I beseeched God for asking Him, like, God, why?

You know, why am I here if I just die and that's it?

So I continued doing that, and I had an encounter with God.

That's the first time I heard the audible voice of God.

I was seven years old, and He said, do not be afraid, but you will be with me forevermore.

That's what I heard.

And when I got older, I realized that what I felt afterwards, like, you know, that a presence came into the room, and I felt at ease, very, very calm.

What was the presence of God and the Holy Spirit?

At that time, I didn't know, but all I could say, it's one of the best night's sleep I ever had after that.

Very good.

So what happened between the time of seven and then reconnecting with God?

Well, I reconnected at 19.

And during that time, my parents were Anglican, and I would go to church with them.

But I realized that something, I needed more.

So I continued attending church, seeking God.

And I had some other friends that were close friends of the family, and they were Pentecostal.

So I would go to church there as well.

And also, I would go to the vacation Bible school that they would have, you know, during the summertime.

So I had that influence there.

So I got fed that way during my teenage years.

And at 19, I made a decision to recommit, I'll have to say my life to the Lord.

And I haven't looked back since.

When I was preparing for this conversation, it caught my attention that you were an author, as well as the founder of Ironclad, right?

And I was like, okay, what is this?

What does Ironclad represent?

And it's interesting.

It's specifically for men, isn't it?

It's specifically for men.

And Ironclad came about through some of the experiences I had as a believer and as a man as well.

Some of the pressure that you feel, whether it be societal or even from your own, you know, mind.

As men, we have certain things that we ideate and think that we need to deal with it on our own.

And that to me is a deception.

So Ironclad is there to help men regulate their emotions, to build mental strength and godly resolve.

It's built on two tenets as well, which is, you know, strengthening the man and building the brotherhood.

So what it does as well is it helps men find community and a safe place to be vulnerable.

Because a lot of men think that it's some sort of manly requirement to just do life alone.

And that's something I saw with myself.

And it caused a lot of, you know, struggle.

And I've seen that with other men.

But through Ironclad and other ministries experience that I have, I've realized, I've come to realize that this is something that God has genuinely called me to pursue.

How did you come up with the name Ironclad though?

I came up with that from watching 300.

And I had a dream as well with an angel in armor.

And he had an armor similar to what the Spartans had in the movie 300.

And he had the breastplate.

He had the long skirt with the type, you know, that, I don't want to call it a skirt, the skirt so to speak.

But he had that with sandals and a long golden spear.

And it just, that name just came to me, that he was clad, you know, he would go for battle.

He was Ironclad.

He had a breastplate.

He had his armor.

He was ready for battle.

So I thought, you know, that's a, that's an apt name for us being prepared for mental battles that we would face during our Christian walk as men.

So that's how the name Ironclad came about.

Before we got recording, I was saying, I hear Trini in this voice, right?

So, and you told me, yes, you're born, but yeah, half and half, right?

Yes.

It's caught up.

Tell me, tell me about that history in terms of moving.

My parents are both Trinidadians and they came to the UK.

First, my dad came to study and then he was engaged to my mom.

So she followed afterward.

They got married, I think within six months of her coming here.

And then they had both my brother and myself here.

Hmm.

So what happened after that is that I think she wasn't so well.

So I went to Trinidad to stay with my grandmom for a bit.

And then eventually, so that I went, that was 14 months.

And then my dad came for me again when I was just about two.

And ironically, when I saw him, because I don't know, my memory is quite vivid about that time.

I saw him pull up in front of the house in South Trinidad.

And in my mind, when my grandmother said, do you know who that is?

I said, yeah, that's my dad.

And I had, and I had no recollection of him before that.

But in my mind, I was saying he looked like me.

So that was my, what was the deduction at that time.

So, and then he, we came back.

And then I discovered, I discovered, well, I had a mom and a brother because in my mind, I thought my grandmom at the time was my mom.

So I had to kind of, you know, pivot, so to speak, to having an extended family from the one I had in Trinidad at the time.

Very cool story.

So then you came back eventually, or that was your only stint in Trinidad?

I stayed in Trinidad for quite some time.

And then I came back at 19 because I was trying to be like a pro footballer.

So I came here to see how things would be.

I played a few games and, but it didn't quite work out at the time.

I realized he had to really be connected and probably start even at a younger age.

So that I went back to Trinidad, continued.

I studied commercial art, they would call it at the time, but I was graphic design.

They probably gave away my age there.

So yeah, so they, so that's what happened.

And I came back in 2003.

I've been back and forth a few times.

And, but I've remained now here since 2003.

Okay.

So it's been a while since you've come back to sweet, sweet TNT.

Yeah.

I've been, unfortunately the times I've gone back were, I visited my mom on the day.

Yes.

But the last few times weren't the greatest because it was for funerals for both parents.

Yeah.

I'm so sorry to hear that.

So your parents came back to Trinidad and, and lived their lives out here.

And lived their lives out there.

And you said, so Trinidad.

Yeah.

So, so both parents are from the South.

My dad is from Oro Pooch in South Trinidad.

And my mom is from Ziparia.

Okay.

Deep South.

Deep South.

Yeah.

Very cool.

So what is the career path that you've taken today after experiencing what you did with football and experiencing what you do in ministry?

Well, at this moment, I am looking to get back into, or not so soon as I get back into, but pivot into full-time ministry with ironclad.

And that's where Raging War comes in.

My devotional I wrote, it's a 10 week men's devotional.

And the subheading is 10 weeks to forge a godly resolve and mental resilience.

And from that, I've also created a five week mentoring and discipleship program, which is basically being piloted as we speak by two churches in the United States.

So one is in, in Maryland and one in Wisconsin.

Very good.

What's been the feedback like?

Well, I'm awaiting feedback because the first church, they are coming to the completion of their first five weeks.

So then they're actually going to do five week cycles.

So I'm looking to hear from them this week.

And I've, I've put into the program of our built into it an evaluation from, so it helps not just me, but it helps them evaluate, you know, the men's growth from the start of the program in the middle and upon completion.

So it's a valuable tool.

I think I've built in there to help disciple men and to help with their growth as well.

Five years from today, you're listening to this conversation.

What's one message you'd leave for future you?

It would be to believe who God says that you are and do not idolize anything or anyone.

God is sovereign and he always has a plan.

Only to say that, again, I'm very grateful for what God has done and what he is doing.

And I'm excited for what comes next and I'm making myself available and provisioning myself to not miss out in on what God has in store.
