Now, today’s episode is a bit of a shift. We’re talking about something that might sound intimidating — maybe even a little boring to some — but I promise you, if you’ll hang with me, it’s going to click in a big way.
We're talking about SEO.
That’s right, Search Engine Optimization. Three little letters that tend to send creative women into a tailspin — and I get it.
If you've ever said:
• “I'm not techy enough for that”
• “I don't even know where to start”
• “Isn't that for bloggers and big brands?”
...then this episode is tailor-made for you. Because SEO is not just a marketing tool — it's a visibility strategy that can actually free you from the hamster wheel of daily content creation.
The good news is… you don’t need to understand all the back-end coding, or become a Google ninja overnight. You just need to understand the basics — the why behind it, and a few steps you can actually take.
We’re going to talk about what SEO really is, why it’s actually one of the most powerful tools in your visibility toolbox, how to start using it without overwhelm, and the mindset shift that will keep you from burning out on social media.
[Segment 1: Let’s Debunk the Overwhelm]
Okay, before we get tactical, let me just speak to the elephant in the room.
If you’ve avoided SEO because it feels confusing or overwhelming, I just want to say — that’s totally normal. Most entrepreneurs — especially women in the earlier stages of business — hear “search engine optimization” and their brain immediately goes to, “That’s not for me.”
We’ve been sold this idea that SEO is for marketers, or bloggers, or people who know how to code. And friend, I just want to tell you right now — that's a lie.
SEO is for anyone who wants to be discoverable.
If you want your dream clients to find your website, your offers, your blog, your freebie — SEO matters. And yes, even if you’re only on Instagram. Even if you’re just getting started. Even if you hate technology.
It’s not about knowing everything. It’s about owning what you do, getting clear on who you help, and learning how to make that message easier to find.
If you can type out a sentence and use Google, you can handle beginner-level SEO. And I’ll show you exactly what that looks like.
But first, let’s talk about why it even matters.
[Segment 2: Why SEO Matters for You — Yes, You]
So what is SEO, practically speaking?
Search engine optimization is the process of making your content — your website, your blog posts, your freebies and YES _ even your social media — easier for search engines like Google to understand and recommend when someone types in a related keyword. (Side note… you podcasters may notice that I didn’t mention podcast in there. Podcasts are searchable on google… yet! Unless they are on YouTube. But we will be doing a whole podcast episode on that in just a few weeks. So stay tuned for that.)
Let’s say you’re a Christian life coach for women in transition. If someone types in “Christian coaching for empty nesters” or “faith-based coaching for midlife women,” and you’ve taken even a few simple SEO steps, guess what? You have a chance to show up.
Now listen to me — this is not just about algorithms. This is about stewardship.
Because if God has given you a message, a calling, a solution to a real problem — don’t you want to make that message findable?
And here’s the glorious thing. SEO is the opposite of the content creation grind.
Social is fast and frantic. You post, it lives for maybe 24–48 hours, and then it disappears into the void.
SEO is slow and strategic. You create content once, and it keeps working for you long after you hit publish.
It’s like planting a seed and letting it grow roots. Yes, it takes a little time up front. But then it keeps producing fruit.
Friend, you don’t have to be everywhere to be effective. You don’t have to be loud to be found. But you do have to be intentional.
This is what I call faithful visibility — showing up with strategy, rooted in obedience, and trusting that God will multiply the work.
Because here’s the truth: When you show up in obedience, He handles the outcome. SEO is just one tool He can use.
[Segment 3: What Most Entrepreneurs Get Wrong]
Most entrepreneurs are spending all their energy on platforms that demand constant attention.
And listen, I love a good Instagram story or reel. But social media will wear you out if it’s your only visibility strategy.
You post, you hope the algorithm is kind, and then you start the process all over again the next day. It’s exhausting. And frankly, it's not sustainable.
SEO is different.
It’s not about how often you post. It’s about how clearly you communicate who you help, how you help them, and what problems you solve — in the language your people are already searching for.
It’s also what helps AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini recommend your content, your website, or your resources when people are asking questions.
So even if you're not trying to “rank on Google,” SEO still helps you show up in the places people are looking — even when you’re not working.
[Segment 4: What You Can Do This Week — Beginner SEO Steps]
Alright, let’s get practical. Here are a few super simple steps you can take this week — even if you don’t feel tech-savvy.
Step 1: Think Like Your Client, Not Like a Marketer
What would your dream client type into Google if they were looking for someone like you?
It might be:
• “How to create a lead magnet that works”
• “Christian business coaching”
• “How to set up email marketing for beginners”
• “Branding help for Christian entrepreneurs”
Write those phrases down. These are your starter keywords. Use them in your headlines, in your blog titles, in the first few sentences of your content. Google will start to connect the dots.
Step 2: Update Your SEO Titles and Descriptions
Head over to your website and check what shows up in the browser tab when someone visits your site. That little line of text up top? That’s called your title tag, and it’s super important for SEO.
It’s not just for looks — it’s what Google reads first to figure out what your page is about.
If it just says something like “Page 2” that’s not helping anyone. Google doesn’t know what you do. Be clear with your page names like “home”, “about”, “services”
Buut also you need to go one step further and put in good title tags for each page. For example, my home page could read:
“Faith-Based Brand Strategy for Christian Entrepreneurs | Your Name or Business Name”
Most website platforms have a place where you can edit this — usually under something like “SEO settings” or “Search appearance.” It’s super easy to miss, but it’s really powerful once you know it’s there.
This is one of the easiest ways to start showing up online without doing more — you’re just making what you already have clearer and easier to find.
Step 3: Use a Simple SEO Tool (If You’re on WordPress)
If your website is on WordPress, download a free plugin like Yoast SEO or RankMath. These tools will help you write better titles, descriptions, and even give you a checklist of what to improve on each page.
They’re not perfect. But they’re like a built-in coach that says, “Hey, you forgot to add your keyword here,” or “Your description’s a little long.” Totally manageable.
Step 4 (Bonus): Set Up Google Search Console
If you’re feeling brave, set up Google Search Console. It’s a free tool that tells you what people are typing into Google that leads to your site.
You’ll see what’s working, what’s not, and where you can improve.
Even if you only check it once a month, it’s good data. And it’s all free.
You can literally google “how to install google search console” and you will get step by step instructions to get it set up.
[Segment 5: Let’s Bust Some SEO Myths]
Let’s shut down a few common myths while we’re here:
Myth 1: You have to blog every week.
Although I do suggest that everyone have a consistently updated long-form content platform (blog, podcast or YT video) One well-optimized page is better than 10 fluffy posts. Focus on quality and clarity, not quantity. But consistency is key. So if you can commit to one blog post or podcast per month – do that. If your cadence is every week or somewhere in between – do that.
Myth 2: You need to be a tech expert.
Nope. You just need to speak your audience’s language and use a few basic tools. You can absolutely do this.
Myth 3: SEO is only for Google.
Not anymore. SEO affects Pinterest, YouTube, and even how AI tools find and recommend content. It’s way more versatile than people realize.
Myth 4: If it’s God’s will, I don’t need to do all this.
Listen, obedience is about action. Yes, we trust Him for the results, but we’re also called to steward our gifts well.
You don’t have to strive. But you do need to show up.
