A Stone or Gold – Daily Wisdom

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1849 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget. Today’s quote is a Persian Proverb, and it is, “A stone given at the right time is better than gold given at the wrong time.”

A Stone or Gold

I would say that most of us think that gold is much more valuable than a stone, but that is because most of us have ready access to a way to cash in on that gold. However, there are scenarios when that would not be accurate. For example, we are out in the wilderness and have to survive. A hard stone would have many uses in that situation, but a nugget of gold, which is far softer, would not be near as valuable. This stone could be used to crush nuts or grain, or it could be used to drive stakes into the ground. Gold would not have the same capabilities. Here is another example. Let’s say you were starving, and someone came along with food in one bucket and gold in another. The catch here is there is no way to redeem the gold before you would starve to death. In that case, the food would be exponentially more valuable than any amount of gold. So it is with God’s imagers. There may be one person who is a genius or a successful business person, but if you need a plumber to unclog an over-flowing toilet, then who brings the most value to that situation? Indeed, the trained plumber would be invaluable. As I recite at the beginning of every podcast, many things are more valuable in life than silver or gold, like wisdom and sound judgment. Keep this in mind the next time you think all would be well if you just had more riches. Job 28:17-19 Wisdom is more valuable than gold and crystal. It cannot be purchased with jewels mounted in fine gold. Coral and jasper are worthless in trying to get it. The price of wisdom is far above rubies. Precious peridot from Ethiopia cannot be exchanged for it. It’s worth more than the purest gold. As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of our Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.
