As a leader, if you have the inclination to make sure everything is on track either through monitoring your team or getting things done by yourself, you are not alone; every leader experiences the urge to do the tasks yourself as that could be quicker and match your expected standard. This leaves the leaders with lesser time to focus on the strategy level of the business. And sadly, this is where the strategic role of the leader is required.
To be able to cater to the strategic needs of the business, as a leader, one needs to move out of that comfort zone of being the leader (in control). This is often very challenging for many a leader, across the board, as it calls for letting go of things by empowering one’s team and making oneself redundant.
If you can empower your team, you are in for many pleasant surprises including having more time than before. You will see that your team is more abled to take some tasks/projects off your too-full-plate. It serves as a doubled-edged sword of getting you people up-skilled and leaving you with more time to work on the strategy level.
You may not be the best at everything or you may not like doing everything. So, kindly and gently, let go of things, focus on the big picture and lead the team.
