Speaker B:

This weekend on around the House with Eric G. We're busting the biggest myths in home tech.

Speaker B:

Is the AI data center boom really driving up your power bill or is that just noise?

Speaker B:

We're breaking down the actual numbers.

Speaker B:

Plus, does a well lit American flag on your porch really scare off burglars?

Speaker B:

Or is that just something we all want to believe?

Speaker B:

And that old ring doorbell still sitting on your door, still working fine, right?

Speaker B:

We'll tell you why still working and still smart aren't the same thing anymore.

Speaker B:

Home myths busted.

Speaker C:

Smart home app on your phone or the one that's working with that, make sure that you're resetting things, as in powering things off, powering them back on from time to time.

Speaker C:

Just like your router at home.

Speaker C:

You should be doing that at least once a month.

Speaker C:

And if you can do that, it keeps things updated, it gets things connected and it makes sure that that update doesn't get lost.

Speaker C:

Same thing goes with your smart TVs and anything else.

Speaker C:

Do the updates because most of the time those are security updates and that's going to show and plug up those vulnerabilities as they get found.

Speaker C:

So that's a big one right there.

Speaker C:

Smart home tech is plug and play.

Speaker C:

That's another myth.

Speaker C:

Well, it's getting a lot better.

Speaker C:

There's a lot more interoperability between things where your TV could talk to your thermostat and your appliances are talking together.

Speaker C:

But really it has to come down.

Speaker B:

In the second hour.

Speaker B:

Around the House with Eric G. Gets controversial because what's behind your bathroom tile might already be failing and you don't even know it.

Speaker B:

We're talking about the material a lot of bathrooms are built with and why it's the wrong call every time.

Speaker B:

Plus that bottle of bleach you reach for when you find mold.

Speaker B:

We'll tell you why it's not actually fixing the problem.

Speaker B:

And stick around for the myth about old growth lumber that's going to change how you think about they don't build them like they used to.

Speaker C:

Maybe it's not.

Speaker C:

Somebody hasn't learned that there's a new way of doing it.

Speaker C:

And maybe it was great in:

Speaker C:

And one of those is drywall is fine behind bathroom tile if it's sealed.

Speaker C:

Well, I still see people out there on social media putting up green board drywall, which is the water resistant.

Speaker C:

It is by no means waterproof, water resistant drywall and then putting a tile surround around it or something like that and hoping that's gonna last.

Speaker C:

ht have got away with that in:

Speaker C:

Right now.

Speaker C:

You want to be using something that's going to be way more waterproof and if you've got to put that in there, just go ahead and go with one of the foam board solutions out there that they have.

Speaker B:
