Shownotes

Illness has always been a part of human history, and mermaid legends have long played a part in offering protection from disease or foretold plagues and catastrophes.  Professor Sarah Peverley returns to share stories of how mermaid cures have helped people through past epidemics. In the 19th century, people drew the Japanese Amabie mermaids as protection against disease, and that practice has been resurrected on social media during #coronavirus. From legends about the healing properties of mermaid bones to mermaids who prescribe mugwort for tuberculosis, mermaids continue to offer hope in uncertain times.
