Foreign hey teachers, welcome to the Transformational Teacher Podcast.
Speaker A:I am your host, detoya and thank you for being here.
Speaker A:On this podcast I will talk about faith, mindset and the importance of self care.
Speaker A:I believe God desires for us to flourish in our relationship with Him.
Speaker A:It plays such a vital role in transforming our lives.
Speaker A:In turn, it will help us to transform our classroom his way.
Speaker A:When we teach with Jesus and see things from his viewpoint, guess what?
Speaker A:Those anxieties and classroom challenges that try to trip us up will no longer have the power to do that because God will help us.
Speaker A:He will give us the strength, wisdom, patience and whatever else we need to rise up and teach with joy and peace.
Speaker A:Hey Transformational Teacher.
Speaker A:Thank you.
Speaker A:Thank you so much for everything that you do.
Speaker A:Thank you for stepping foot inside of your classroom each and every day.
Speaker A:You are needed.
Speaker A:You are making an impact.
Speaker A:God is thankful that you are fulfilling the assignment that he's given to you.
Speaker A:I am thankful that you're fulfilling the assignment.
Speaker A:Thank you for what you do each day.
Speaker A:Thank you for what you do behind the scenes and thank you.
Speaker A:Well, we are going to go ahead and get started today.
Speaker A:We are going to talk about prayer.
Speaker A:What happens when teachers pray?
Speaker A:We are going to first look at what is prayer.
Speaker A:Prayer is communicating with God.
Speaker A:Prayer is praying God's word over life situations.
Speaker A:It's listening to what God has to say to you.
Speaker A:Prayer is not just us talking to God, but God desires to talk to you and we have to be in a posture to receive and hear what he wants to say back to us when we are praying.
Speaker A:Sometimes we just need to get still before God and say, God, what is it that you want to say to me on this day?
Speaker A:Prayer is showing God that we can't do life on our own, that we need his help.
Speaker A:And as teachers, I believe we need his help.
Speaker A:I believe that we need his guidance each day inside that classroom.
Speaker A:When we pray as teachers, we are surrendering our plan, our will to God and we are asking him to give us his will.
Speaker A:We are asking God, what is your vision for my classroom?
Speaker A:I believe when we pray that God listens.
Speaker A:And I believe that God desires to do great things in, in and through us.
Speaker A:Let's look at two scriptures about prayer.
Speaker A:The first one I want to look at is Luke 18:1 and I'm going to read it from two translations.
Speaker A:The first one is NLT.
Speaker A:It says one day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.
Speaker A:Now let's read it from nasb.
Speaker A:It says now he was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not become discouraged.
Speaker A:And another translation, if I'm correct, I believe it says to not faint.
Speaker A:So this is letting me know that we should always pray.
Speaker A:But if we don't pray, there's a chance we can become discouraged.
Speaker A:If we don't pray, there's a chance that we might faint.
Speaker A:Now, do we want to be discouraged?
Speaker A:Do we want to faint?
Speaker A:If not, I encourage you.
Speaker A:Let's pray.
Speaker A:Let's do what First Thessalonians chapter 5, 16, 18 says.
Speaker A:It says, rejoice always and delight in your faith.
Speaker A:Be unceasing and persistent in prayer.
Speaker A:I'm going to say that part again.
Speaker A:Be unceasing and persistent in prayer in every situation, no matter what the circumstance.
Speaker A:Be thankful and continually give thanks to God, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.
Speaker A:So we want to make sure that we are persistent in our prayer life when we pray.
Speaker A:We also want to make sure that our heart is right before God and that we are praying in line with his will, with His Word, and that we're not praying from a selfish motive.
Speaker A:And I want us to look at James 4.
Speaker A:8.
Speaker A:It says, Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
Speaker A:Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double minded.
Speaker A:So we want to make sure that we allow, we ask God, purify us, cleanse us.
Speaker A: ,: Speaker A:This is a scripture that I pray over myself often.
Speaker A:It says, search me thoroughly, oh God, and know my heart.
Speaker A:Test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Speaker A:See if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.
Speaker A: And then Psalms: Speaker A:God, if there's anything inside of me that's not of you, remove it.
Speaker A:If there's anything that's inside of me that is preventing you from hearing my prayers, remove it.
Speaker A:If there's any anything that I need to get right, God, reveal it to me so I can get it right.
Speaker A:Prayer it will also give you guidance for the classroom.
Speaker A:James 1:5 it says, if you need wisdom, ask our generous God and He will give it to you.
Speaker A:He will not rebuke you for asking.
Speaker A:So this is letting me know.
Speaker A:We can go to God.
Speaker A:We can pray and ask God, God, please give me the wisdom that is needed for this week.
Speaker A:We what do I need to Know on this week.
Speaker A:What insight do I need to know about my students on this week?
Speaker A:God give me wisdom, Lord God, Give me clarity, Lord God, more clarity pertaining to the curriculum that I'm teaching.
Speaker A:Show me how I can make this more exciting for my students.
Speaker A:Sit with God, Ask God those questions.
Speaker A:We also want to make sure that when we are taking talking to God that we are reverencing him too.
Speaker A:We want to cuz God, he desires to help us.
Speaker A:And when we pray we are communicating to God that we need his help.
Speaker A:We are being humble before God.
Speaker A:So when we go to God, let's approach him with the right posture.
Speaker A: And then Psalms: Speaker A:The God of Jacob is our stronghold, I our refuge, our high tower.
Speaker A:So the Lord of hosts is with you.
Speaker A:He is always right there by your side.
Speaker A:And Matthew 7, verse 7 says ask and keep on asking and it will be given to you.
Speaker A:Seek and keep on seeking and you will find.
Speaker A:Knock and keep on knocking and the door will be open to you.
Speaker A:So keep going to God.
Speaker A:Keep praying to God, keep listening to God, Allow God to talk to you.
Speaker A:Sit down with God, Take you out a journal and just journal what God is telling you.
Speaker A:Now let's go on to when should we pray?
Speaker A: Psalms: Speaker A:So I encourage you to pray throughout your day and even what we read earlier in first Thessalonians it told us to be unceasing in prayer, to be persistent in prayer.
Speaker A:So we want to live a lifestyle of prayer.
Speaker A:Now I encourage you to pray God's word over your situations.
Speaker A:Make God bigger than your situations.
Speaker A:Remain thankful throughout the process.
Speaker A:So I encourage you, make sure make sure you are praying God's word.
Speaker A:So let's go ahead with these action steps for this week.
Speaker A:I want you to set aside time daily to pray for yourself, pray for your classroom, pray for your school.
Speaker A:Zone in on any students as you feel led to pray and anoint your students chairs in the desk as much as you can.
Speaker A:One thing that I do in the morning, we have to take our chairs down.
Speaker A:So when I get there, I anoint my hands with anointing oil.
Speaker A:I go around and as I'm taking the chairs down, I'm praying over the chairs.
Speaker A:I sometimes if I have more time, I'm praying specific things over my students as I'm going to work.
Speaker A:Sometimes I'm like God, is there anything specific that I Need to pray today for a student.
Speaker A:Find Scripture promises to pray over your students.
Speaker A:Because again, when we pray God's word, we're praying his will first.
Speaker A:John 5, 14, 15.
Speaker A:It says, this is the remarkable degree of confidence which we as believers are entitled to have before him, that if we ask anything according to his will that is consistent with his plan and purpose, he hears us.
Speaker A:And if we know for a fact, as indeed we do, and he hears and listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know with subtle and absolute knowledge that we have granted to us the request which we have asked for from Him.
Speaker A:So again, I encourage you find some Scripture promises to pray over your students, to pray over yourself, to pray over your class as a whole, to pray over your students.
Speaker A:Families pray the Word of God.
Speaker A:God's word cannot return to him void.
Speaker A:So pray daily.
Speaker A:And I want to just leave with a testimony of what has been happening since I have been praying.
Speaker A:And this is not, not just focusing on this year.
Speaker A:I was just sitting down one day and, and was like, what really happens when a teacher prays?
Speaker A:So I started just writing out on my phone some things that I have seen happen when I've, you know, since I've been praying.
Speaker A:You know, from a teacher standpoint, what are some things that I have seen change?
Speaker A:And I was writing it out on my phone and it was getting a little long, so I said, well, let me switch over to Google Drive and everything.
Speaker A:So I, you know, open a Google Doc.
Speaker A:And so far I, I have 46 things down.
Speaker A:I was like, wow, God.
Speaker A:And I'm not finished with the list yet, but I'm just going to share a few of those things with you.
Speaker A:One thing that I have noticed is that I change for the better.
Speaker A:Sometimes the situation might not change, but it changes me.
Speaker A:My heart starts to change.
Speaker A:I start seeing things more from God's perspective, and I learn how to handle situations his way.
Speaker A:My ears are more tuned in to hear what the Holy Spirit has to say to me about my classroom.
Speaker A:I've noticed that I start to see my students from the eyes of love.
Speaker A:I see them the way God sees them.
Speaker A:I start to pause more before responding to a challenging classroom situation.
Speaker A:And sometimes if I feel like I have handled a situation wrong, I address it.
Speaker A:I watch how I address it, but.
Speaker A:But I do address it more.
Speaker A:And so I reflect more.
Speaker A:And then that next day, I go in saying, okay, I'm going to be more intentional.
Speaker A:I'm going to make sure that doesn't happen again.
Speaker A:I start to speak more in line with God's word pertaining to my classroom.
Speaker A:Instead of focusing so much on the problems I see with my natural eye, I start to see my students from God's perspective.
Speaker A:I start to see them with the lens of love.
Speaker A:And you know, one thing that I've noticed that happens a lot, especially I can tell the difference when I have had time with God and when I haven't had time with God.
Speaker A:Because I remember one time last year when I believe was when I had Covid and when I was going back to work, I was waking up at the last moment.
Speaker A:I wasn't really having my time with God like I was.
Speaker A:And that was one of the most stressful weeks.
Speaker A:That was the week where I found myself crying for no reason.
Speaker A:I didn't really know what was happening.
Speaker A:But once I sat and reflected, man, you haven't had time with God, so you're pouring, but you're empty, so you don't have really anything to pour.
Speaker A:So one thing that I have learned, the more time I spend with God, the more time I spend in prayer, I have more to pour into my students because I am overflowing with God's love.
Speaker A:And I am more confident as a teacher when I am praying because I know that through prayer I know that God, he is powering me to go inside that classroom to teach.
Speaker A:And regardless of what comes forth, it's not going to take me out because God is right there with me.
Speaker A:When I pray, I gain wisdom, I gain insight from God pertaining to my classroom as a whole and, and even for individual students.
Speaker A:Sometimes he may say, say this or do that, create this for that student and this thing here.
Speaker A:I feel God's presence more in my classroom when I'm praying.
Speaker A:When I'm worshiping inside of my classroom, I feel his presence more.
Speaker A:I have more peace and joy when it comes to teaching when I am praying.
Speaker A:So I want to encourage you.
Speaker A:Pray God's Word, dear, Daily.
Speaker A:And I also want to invite you to our monthly prayer and encouragement.

Speaker A:We thank you, Lord God, for your word.
Speaker A:We think that your word will not return to you void, Lord God we thank you, Lord God that we will pray, Lord God daily we will pray your word, Lord God let your fire fall fresh upon us.
Speaker A:Give us that love, Lord God for our students, Lord God give us the love for teaching, Lord God.
Speaker A:Let us see teaching, Lord God from the standpoint, Lord God, God that you want us to see it from, let us see it as ministry, Lord God I pray, Lord God that we are unceasing, Lord God and we're persistent, Lord God in prayer, Lord God we're persistent, Lord God in praying for ourselves, Lord we're persistent, Lord God in praying for our students.
Speaker A:We're persistent in praying for our schools, praying for our families, Lord we are persistent in doing your will, Lord.
Speaker A:So I just thank you Lord God for that.
Speaker A:And I thank you Lord God that also each teacher is persistent in taking care of themselves.
