Shownotes

Have you ever found yourself biting your tongue, aching to speak your truth but feeling like something’s holding you back? That inner tug-of-war can be exhausting, and you’re not alone in it. In this episode, we’re uncovering why so many of us avoid speaking up and how you can finally break free from that pattern.

In this episode, I'm joined by Master Coach Sara Bybee Fisk to talk about one of the most important skills for women: learning how to have the hard conversations that are taking up your brain space and energy. When you’re able to stop rehearsing, trying to find the right words, and walking on eggshells until it’s the “right time” to speak up, you get your life back and gain the confidence to have any conversation you need to.

One of the biggest reasons women avoid hard conversations is that they worry it will cost them connection. But when you can speak up in your relationships, you gain clarity on what the relationship truly is. In some cases, you’re brought even closer, and in others, you learn that the relationship isn’t giving you what you hoped it would. We’ll talk about why this fear is so present for so many of us, and how our early experiences and programming teach us to focus on other people’s needs instead of our own.

Silence can often feel like the safest option, but having the hard conversations is the key to more clarity and connection in your relationships. Let’s dive in!

What you’ll learn:

  • How to recognize when your ability to speak up needs strengthening
  • Why highly capable women can become invisible to themselves and the people around them
  • The definition of “good girl” math and how much time it’s taking away from your life
  • Why you may be able to speak up for everyone else but struggle to speak up for yourself
  • Why trying to calculate someone else’s reaction will never give you the answer you’re looking for

About Sara Bybee Fisk

Sara Bybee Fisk coaches capable women through the conversations they're afraid to have. As a Master Certified Coach and host of the Ex-Good Girl Podcast, she's worked with thousands of women in medicine, business, and faith communities who've done years of personal work but still freeze when something they care about is at stake. Her approach is straightforward: most women don't need another insight or a better script. They need to interrupt the calculation loop that runs before they ever open their mouth, what she calls “Good Girl Math”. Sara teaches three concrete skills to help women locate exactly where they get stuck and what needs to change. She's a born-again feminist who grew up in a high-demand religion and now speaks nationally on conflict, communication, and what it looks like when women finally learn the skills needed to have any hard conversation they need to have.
