Tara Bryan:Hey, everybody, welcome to today's episode of the Course
Tara Bryan:Building Secrets® podcast. I am thrilled that you are here. Hey,
Tara Bryan:in this episode, I am going to introduce you to Kelly Altman
Tara Bryan:from Altman fitness. And we are going to banter back and forth
Tara Bryan:about her online membership hub that she has created. And so
Tara Bryan:welcome Kelly to the podcast.
Kelly Altman:So happy you Yeah, happy to be here live.
Tara Bryan:Awesome. Yes. And and she's in studio, which is
Tara Bryan:very rare for us in terms of how we usually record podcasts. So
Tara Bryan:alright, so Kelly, give us your story. What are you about? How
Tara Bryan:are you in the online business world? And give us your story?
Kelly Altman:Yeah, alright, so I never would have said I was in
Kelly Altman:the online business world until about four and a half years ago
Kelly Altman:during COVID. So my backstory is that 14 years ago, I created a
Kelly Altman:small boutique gym, a fitness community because I love
Kelly Altman:bringing people together through fitness. And so we owned and
Kelly Altman:operated that since 2010. And then of course, in 2020. In
Kelly Altman:March, everything shut down. And I had been hearing all about how
Kelly Altman:to go online, but my business was so in person with running
Kelly Altman:groups that that had never become a priority until COVID.
Kelly Altman:And so we immediately pivoted and started recording our
Kelly Altman:workouts, doing them on Zoom. And then with Tara's help, we
Kelly Altman:created a membership platform to be able to store those. And then
Kelly Altman:we started to think about all of the potential we started putting
Kelly Altman:our weekly recipes on there, we started creating courses and
Kelly Altman:programs and things for our people to go through on their
Kelly Altman:own. And it was huge for us staying afloat during COVID. And
Kelly Altman:then once that was kind of over people, we had so many people
Kelly Altman:that wanted that says Continue on that we just captured her
Kelly Altman:during it. So that's kind of where we where we are today. So
Kelly Altman:it really is crazy to me to think that now it's been over
Kelly Altman:four years. In learning kind of all of this tech, Tara knows the
Kelly Altman:tech for me as somebody who would focus so much on just in
Kelly Altman:person delivery, always felt like the thing that stopped me
Kelly Altman:and got me really nervous and anxious because I didn't
Kelly Altman:understand how I could do something once and then have a
Kelly Altman:kind of live for people to consume on their own time.
Tara Bryan:Yeah, and so Okay, so that tees up, like your
Tara Bryan:backstory. The other part of it that you haven't mentioned yet
Tara Bryan:that I want to insert in there is that you're also a health
Tara Bryan:coach. And so that was another kind of dimension to you trying
Tara Bryan:to figure out, how do you get your message out to more people?
Tara Bryan:How do you sort of start to add that into the gym model? So add
Tara Bryan:it into, like, how do you create a group of people who want to do
Tara Bryan:more of a curated experience? Right, right, versus just sort
Tara Bryan:of the gym workouts. And, and so that was another dimension that
Tara Bryan:you had, where you were doing those either live or on Zoom or
Tara Bryan:whatever else. And so you were, as you start, you were forced to
Tara Bryan:pivot into the gym into online, then you also were like, Oh,
Tara Bryan:well, I can use my six pillars of health curriculum that you
Tara Bryan:had to also help people and add another dimension to your
Tara Bryan:business that you didn't have. Just with the gym.
Tara Bryan:Yeah, absolutely. I mean, we did run a lot of you know, six week
Tara Bryan:body transformation challenges and things like that, pre COVID
Tara Bryan:And things changed a lot when I did become a health coach I got
Tara Bryan:more interested in more of the holistic approach and it wasn't
Tara Bryan:just you know, my market didn't become not just get ripped in
Tara Bryan:six weeks and just go on this diet. I had a lot of information
Tara Bryan:to share with people and a lot of tools that can help people
Tara Bryan:like truly change their life, change their mindset, not just
Tara Bryan:follow somebody else's rules but pay more attention to
Tara Bryan:themselves. And while we had always just delivered and
Tara Bryan:Anything that we gave to people every single time, you know, it
Tara Bryan:was like this canned approach. And this is how we show up in
Tara Bryan:front of them. We never recorded anything, we just gave it to
Tara Bryan:them, we nurtured the sequence all the way through. And then I
Tara Bryan:think it was right with COVID, I started to say, Wow, I mean, a
Tara Bryan:lot of the messages that people get when they're trying to
Tara Bryan:change their habits and change their life, they need to hear
Tara Bryan:every single day. And I don't want to say it every single day.
Tara Bryan:And I don't know when they're going to need to hear it or when
Tara Bryan:it's going to hit them. And so that was a game changer, when we
Tara Bryan:started to be able to put things out there to say, you know, are
Tara Bryan:you struggling with this, just listen to these messages that
Tara Bryan:can help change your mindset as to why maybe you don't want to
Tara Bryan:workout today, or you're struggling with your eating or
Tara Bryan:getting back on track. And so yes, that has been huge to have
Tara Bryan:places for them to go to just hear our philosophy all the
Tara Bryan:time, honestly, to get like more indoctrinated. And and to be
Tara Bryan:honest, I think in you would notice this is there was a shift
Tara Bryan:in our business pre COVID, we were very much that six week
Tara Bryan:body transformation. And when I wanted to kind of phase out of
Tara Bryan:that way of thinking and not being known as a place where we
Tara Bryan:were trying to create six pack abs. And we were trying to get
Tara Bryan:into more of a healthy lifestyle approach. It takes you trying to
Tara Bryan:change that identity of a business over and over and over
Tara Bryan:and over again. And so anyway, I feel like that has been one of
Tara Bryan:the biggest things that I feel like I'm finally getting there
Tara Bryan:where people understand and they're not coming to me anymore
Tara Bryan:to say help me get a six pack because that's not who I want to
Tara Bryan:serve.
Tara Bryan:Well, and it's allowed you to, to really be able to serve more
Tara Bryan:people and like, find more of those ideal people versus just
Tara Bryan:who was coming into your physical location. Yeah. All
Tara Bryan:right. All right, cool. So So COVID became sort of the launch
Tara Bryan:pad. And that brought you into the digital space. And I would
Tara Bryan:say you came not unwillingly, but sort
Tara Bryan:of kicking and screaming and kicking and screaming
Tara Bryan:and bewildered because he is sort of forced to write. But I
Tara Bryan:think that it was such a blessing because it allowed you
Tara Bryan:to see a different approach to how you could show up how you
Tara Bryan:could get out in a bigger way. And honestly, how starting to
Tara Bryan:look at how you could use your time differently. Yeah. And so I
Tara Bryan:say COVID COVID was great for that for you. But But right
Tara Bryan:after COVID, right after COVID. Right? When everything opened
Tara Bryan:up, you took a sigh of relief, and you're like, Great, now we
Tara Bryan:don't have to be online anymore, right? Like, now we're gonna go
Tara Bryan:back into the gym, and this online thing is gonna go away,
Tara Bryan:and it's not going to be a thing. But that's not actually
Tara Bryan:what happened. Right? Right.
Tara Bryan:I mean, there were several years, which is why we don't
Tara Bryan:really know how to define when it ended. But there were several
Tara Bryan:years where we had half the population that said, Oh, my
Tara Bryan:gosh, I just want to be back in person and half of a population
Tara Bryan:that said, I have now recognized this kind of flexibility that's
Tara Bryan:really working for me. And I think for me as just, you know,
Tara Bryan:one of my core values, I want to help everybody all the time, and
Tara Bryan:to say, Wow, I can do this once, and I could show up in person at
Tara Bryan:my you know, when I want to and to have everything be online, we
Tara Bryan:just got so much more traction. And so it was really fun to see
Tara Bryan:how we could serve kind of both demographics. And yeah, I
Tara Bryan:wouldn't say there was maybe a couple months where we weren't
Tara Bryan:nurturing that online. But ever since COVID, every program we've
Tara Bryan:run, we've done it simultaneously, which
Tara Bryan:is really, you know, again, part of your transition in terms of
Tara Bryan:how, how could this whole thing work? How do you show up and
Tara Bryan:serve? And not necessarily have it take up all of your time?
Tara Bryan:Because yeah, you know, I mean, Kelly is a busy mom of four
Tara Bryan:children and like running around all the time, we didn't have
Tara Bryan:time to, like Grow, grow your gym, grow the audience, grow all
Tara Bryan:the things, and and do all the rest of the things that you have
Tara Bryan:going on in your life. And so let's lay so we're gonna get
Tara Bryan:into what's actually happening right now in your business, but
Tara Bryan:I want to just spend a couple more minutes just sort of going
Tara Bryan:back and forth with like, what, what was happening in your mind
Tara Bryan:when you were transitioning from, you know, everything in
Tara Bryan:person to more of that hybrid model, and then looking at the
Tara Bryan:possibility that you could still make a big impact and feel
Tara Bryan:fulfilled without actually being in person with everyone all the
Tara Bryan:time. Yeah,
Tara Bryan:I think that one of the biggest things that I've realized just
Tara Bryan:through this entire process is how A lot of times we make
Tara Bryan:things so much bigger than they need to be like, even when, you
Tara Bryan:know when you're talking about doing it. All right, I want it,
Tara Bryan:I never wanted to give up the part that showed up for people
Tara Bryan:in person because they truly loved my community at the gym.
Tara Bryan:However, I did end up deciding that what would work best for me
Tara Bryan:is to just have less classes per day. So we did that I hired a
Tara Bryan:trainer, and I'm in there, you know, a couple classes a week,
Tara Bryan:but not every single one of them. And then I always knew
Tara Bryan:that really, truly to get to that place where I can get my
Tara Bryan:message out to more and more people, it needed to be a focus
Tara Bryan:also of online, but every time that I would try to create
Tara Bryan:something, I would fall into the trap of just trying to do too
Tara Bryan:much. And it's fascinating, right, because as I just
Tara Bryan:described, I could recognize in my clients that if I gave them
Tara Bryan:too much, they would get overwhelmed. And so I went from
Tara Bryan:that, you have to do all the things perfectly to create this
Tara Bryan:massive transformation in six weeks to where I am now and
Tara Bryan:saying, Just do something like 15 minutes every single day of
Tara Bryan:something that moves you a little bit closer to having the
Tara Bryan:habits to build something. And I had to take my own advice,
Tara Bryan:because I started to realize that in the four years, when I
Tara Bryan:was trying to create the programs online and serve the
Tara Bryan:people in person, I was just doing too much. And I was giving
Tara Bryan:them too much information to where I feel like the user
Tara Bryan:experience was they were impressed by the amount of
Tara Bryan:information I gave them, they kind of felt like they were
Tara Bryan:drinking from the firehose, because when they got done with
Tara Bryan:the program, they felt a little overwhelmed, like, wow, I needed
Tara Bryan:to do a 60 minute strength workout three times a week, and
Tara Bryan:I needed to do all these things. And then I as the person who ran
Tara Bryan:the program felt like once it was over, I wanted to take a
Tara Bryan:breath and a two month vacation from trying to do all of that.
Tara Bryan:And so I just kept knowing because thankfully, I've Tara in
Tara Bryan:my ear that would say, and keep me on that track of saying you
Tara Bryan:don't need to give too much. You need to meet them where they
Tara Bryan:are, and take them along the journey very very, very slowly,
Tara Bryan:because they will appreciate that. And sometimes it is I feel
Tara Bryan:like almost all the time, it's hard to remember where they
Tara Bryan:actually are and what they can actually handle. And then it's
Tara Bryan:important even for you as the entrepreneur to think, what can
Tara Bryan:I actually handle? What can I actually deliver, and not get
Tara Bryan:overwhelmed
Tara Bryan:by the process. But even back when you were putting just your
Tara Bryan:workouts online, it was just like, Well, I'm just going to
Tara Bryan:create, you know, all these millions of workouts and throw
Tara Bryan:them in to the hub. And everybody can go out and get
Tara Bryan:what they want, whenever they want it. And the reality is, is
Tara Bryan:that's too complicated for people, they're not going to do
Tara Bryan:it right. So they're going to start searching. It's like
Tara Bryan:Netflix, right? Like you sit down and try and watch something
Tara Bryan:and then you end up scrolling. And two hours later, you still
Tara Bryan:haven't picked anything because it's too overwhelming. And so
Tara Bryan:this new experience where we're this is what we really want to
Tara Bryan:talk about today is the pain of this new experience that you've
Tara Bryan:created. I would say, there, there's a couple of things that
Tara Bryan:happen during this experience. And so I'm excited to unpack
Tara Bryan:this one. But But I think that the key was you created an
Tara Bryan:intentional curated experience for your people that was bite
Tara Bryan:sized, gave them the ability to just follow along, like just go
Tara Bryan:in and do this stuff every single day with the intention
Tara Bryan:that at the end of the 30 days, that they weren't going to have
Tara Bryan:a change in their habits a change in their behavior. And
Tara Bryan:that was the goal. It wasn't like how much can I give them?
Tara Bryan:Because if I give them all these things, and they're going to
Tara Bryan:think that they're getting so much value. And in fact, the
Tara Bryan:beauty of it is when you give them a curated experience, they
Tara Bryan:see the value, and then it's doable, and then they stay. So
Tara Bryan:talk this talk of sort of like, what what did you create? And
Tara Bryan:and what was the shift that happened for you? And when did
Tara Bryan:that happen? And so tell us tell us all about that because I
Tara Bryan:think that this is the piece that a lot of people don't get
Tara Bryan:until they have gone through kind of what you've gone
Tara Bryan:through. Yeah, I
Tara Bryan:Okay. So the first question was, what did I create? And so I
Tara Bryan:created a 30 day challenge that right this moment, it's called
Tara Bryan:the 30 day challenge, but I'm letting it evolve. I didn't want
Tara Bryan:to overthink things you know that's that's huge for me is
Tara Bryan:rolling something out and being able to just say this is what I
Tara Bryan:want to give people and then I'm gonna let sort of the community
Tara Bryan:decide how that kind of ends up and what cart but I knew that
Tara Bryan:this I wanted to be kind of that entry into my world and into our
Tara Bryan:business, I kept looking back on all the other programs I had
Tara Bryan:created and feeling like, at the end of the day, it took them
Tara Bryan:from zero to like 100. And I wanted to teach somebody from
Tara Bryan:zero to 10. And so I had this on my mind for several months
Tara Bryan:before maybe even a year, before I actually sat down and just put
Tara Bryan:a date on the calendar inside, I'm launching this on this date.
Tara Bryan:So the 30 Day Challenge, what was different about it is they
Tara Bryan:only needed to commit to about four things per day to making
Tara Bryan:their health a priority, right, because in my demographic, my
Tara Bryan:the main person that I serve is mostly busy women, I do serve a
Tara Bryan:few great men that also struggle with putting themselves on their
Tara Bryan:list. But it's the people that are just reacting all day long
Tara Bryan:to the demands of their children and their jobs and maybe taking
Tara Bryan:care of their parents. And then all of a sudden, they get to a
Tara Bryan:place where they think I don't feel good. I don't feel like I
Tara Bryan:do anything, right. I don't even know if I step away from my dust
Tara Bryan:and walk outside, I haven't picked up a weight, I don't feel
Tara Bryan:strong. I don't have good energy, I'm not sleeping well, I
Tara Bryan:don't pay attention to my nutrition, just eat whatever my
Tara Bryan:kids have in the house or leftover on their plate. And
Tara Bryan:they're really ready to just understand how they can put
Tara Bryan:these habits into their already super busy life. Right. So those
Tara Bryan:are the people that I serve. And I kind of forgot what your next
Tara Bryan:question was? Or if I just went off on a on a tails.
Tara Bryan:Yep, that's perfect. So but tell us about so. So so it's centered
Tara Bryan:around four things, right? Yeah. And and so tell us a little bit
Tara Bryan:about what you're most proud of about this challenge. And then
Tara Bryan:we'll we can talk about kind of some of the fun stuff that's in
Tara Bryan:there. Yeah,
Tara Bryan:probably the thing that I'm most proud of is, you know, doing an
Tara Bryan:exercise with Tara that a brain exercise that helped me
Tara Bryan:understand that everything I've been doing, as I've been
Tara Bryan:coaching people, one on one coaching groups, anytime that I
Tara Bryan:talk to a client, that I have a method, so how I bring them
Tara Bryan:through something, right, there are some certain cheese that I
Tara Bryan:do, right, and I have this method out, I started calling it
Tara Bryan:we called our membership hub, the Fit lifestyle, look, because
Tara Bryan:people can come into our gym, and they can work out and that
Tara Bryan:can be the fitness part of it. But there's a whole lifestyle
Tara Bryan:that includes you know, how they're thinking, how they're
Tara Bryan:eating, how they're sleeping, how they're managing their
Tara Bryan:stress and breathing, how they're hydrating, you know, and
Tara Bryan:how they're moving. So it's all of those pillars. But beyond
Tara Bryan:that, when I thought about the method, if I can get every
Tara Bryan:single person to be come consistent, to get creative, and
Tara Bryan:what they're doing right to have that clarity on where they are
Tara Bryan:right now and what might need to change and then start connecting
Tara Bryan:with other people. So they have that community of people that
Tara Bryan:are cheering them on of people that they're learning from and
Tara Bryan:just connecting. Those are like the key aspects of every single
Tara Bryan:thing that I believe in everything that I do. So once I
Tara Bryan:was able to have, here's another one, once I was able to have the
Tara Bryan:confidence to say, I do have a method like this is what I do
Tara Bryan:with every single person is I focus on those four C's. And
Tara Bryan:then it does build competence. With people in their habit the
Tara Bryan:same way I was building confidence for myself with can I
Tara Bryan:lead an online business?
Tara Bryan:And what do we call that method?
Tara Bryan:The Fit Life method!
Tara Bryan:Yep. So there you go. Kelly's gonna imagine that lifestyle
Tara Bryan:hub, right, right. But that was key for you is it one does find
Tara Bryan:it. In fact, I don't want to take us away from what you're
Tara Bryan:proud of. But I want to I want you to share the story quickly
Tara Bryan:that you had with your husband, about the fact that a big gym in
Tara Bryan:our area decided to put to make all of their online, other
Tara Bryan:online workouts free. And so tell us a little bit about that
Tara Bryan:story. Because I think that that was so powerful, not only for
Tara Bryan:you to define your method, but then how you were able to really
Tara Bryan:internalize that and how has that helped you in building the
Tara Bryan:rest of your business?
Tara Bryan:Well, I do think you know, just to go back to every fitness
Tara Bryan:business had to figure out how do I go online right and so even
Tara Bryan:the big gigantic corporations started to you know, put all of
Tara Bryan:their workouts in a repository they start into and we we've got
Tara Bryan:lots of different names right, peloton and just all these
Tara Bryan:different cars companies that create online fitness
Tara Bryan:communities, right? So there's a lot of competition. And here I
Tara Bryan:am. And in my mind thinking, I'm the small boutique gym in one
Tara Bryan:little location and Edina, Minnesota, how do I compete with
Tara Bryan:these giant corporations that have all this stuff online with
Tara Bryan:all the fancy, you know, tech and all that? Well, a couple
Tara Bryan:months ago, right about the time I was getting ready to launch
Tara Bryan:this program, my husband came home and said, Now some of these
Tara Bryan:are one of these big gyms is just giving away all of their
Tara Bryan:content. So like anywhere in the world, you don't have to be a
Tara Bryan:member, you can just be anyone kind of like YouTube, right? Is,
Tara Bryan:is one of those, it's just giving away all of their
Tara Bryan:content, how in the world are you going to compete with this,
Tara Bryan:because I was so clear in what I was creating for people, I could
Tara Bryan:see the exact difference that you know, not many people, there
Tara Bryan:are some people that are self motivated and can go into
Tara Bryan:something and say, oh, yeah, I just do this every single day,
Tara Bryan:this is who I am. That's about 5% of the population 95% of the
Tara Bryan:population, they want to be led, they want to be guided, they
Tara Bryan:want to have a community, they want somewhere to turn when
Tara Bryan:things get hard, because maybe they're not surrounded with a
Tara Bryan:lot of other like minded people that want to be healthier and
Tara Bryan:have those desires. And so I said to them, and not worry
Tara Bryan:about it, like let them give away everything for free. What
Tara Bryan:people are paying for is my curated experience, and the way
Tara Bryan:that I'm gonna lead them, and they're not getting this
Tara Bryan:methodology every single day. And it's repetition is really
Tara Bryan:important. And just, you know, going on to a website and
Tara Bryan:picking something doesn't create a an experience, but it doesn't,
Tara Bryan:you know, create habits that can be built over a long time,
Tara Bryan:because then nobody knows when you fall off. Well,
Tara Bryan:and it's the same same experience going into the gym
Tara Bryan:versus going into, you know, big box thing where you walk into a
Tara Bryan:big box, you know, fitness area, and what you'd like, if you've
Tara Bryan:done this, you know what I'm talking about as you walk in,
Tara Bryan:and then all of a sudden, you you know, you go on the
Tara Bryan:elliptical or something because it's so overwhelming. There's so
Tara Bryan:many things, there's so many people there's like you just
Tara Bryan:don't know what to do with yourself when you walk in. And
Tara Bryan:and you feel alone. In an environment. That's exactly the
Tara Bryan:same. All you've done is taken how you show up in the gym and
Tara Bryan:move that experience online. And so between the method and the
Tara Bryan:fact that you're staying true to how you have built such a
Tara Bryan:successful local business is, is working online. So I love that
Tara Bryan:story. Just because I think that it was it was a pivot point for
Tara Bryan:you to feel that level of confidence and clarity. Yes.
Tara Bryan:Okay, so so so give us give us sort of the, the structure and
Tara Bryan:why you're proud of the structure that you created. What
Tara Bryan:does that look like? Yeah,
Tara Bryan:so all the time when coaching with Tara, I brought back to
Tara Bryan:putting myself in the customer's shoes, you know, into their
Tara Bryan:journey. And realizing that it's not about me thinking it's
Tara Bryan:repetitive. It's about their experience, and what they need
Tara Bryan:to do over and over and over again. And so, like we said
Tara Bryan:before, it really was that bite size, right? Like you encouraged
Tara Bryan:me to put in sort of a morning something. And instead of having
Tara Bryan:it be different every single day, you encouraged me, have it
Tara Bryan:be almost the same every single day. And that was it's one of
Tara Bryan:people's favorite parts.
Tara Bryan:Yes, because you called it "Mornings With Kelly"
Tara Bryan:So it's where I do a little like guided you know, three minutes
Tara Bryan:just to get people because you can always say, take three
Tara Bryan:minutes to think about your day. But again, we want to be guided
Tara Bryan:by people and me because I am kind of like my avatar. We don't
Tara Bryan:want to think about anything else. We have so many thoughts
Tara Bryan:coming through our head, we need somebody else to remind us why
Tara Bryan:we're the most important people in our lives. And we need to
Tara Bryan:take care of ourselves first. And so that was huge. And then
Tara Bryan:realizing
Tara Bryan:how the way so let me just interrupt you because like Yeah,
Tara Bryan:so it's it she's got an app with a membership hub. And so in the
Tara Bryan:morning, that you're asking them to just spend three minutes
Tara Bryan:click on their phone, listen to mornings with Kelly, which is a
Tara Bryan:guided that sort of meditation to here's how you can start your
Tara Bryan:day. Here's something to think about, like start with the right
Tara Bryan:mindset, all that everything's so super simple for people to
Tara Bryan:log in. Listen, listen to it, and then go about their day.
Tara Bryan:Yeah. Okay, so that's the first piece, then
Tara Bryan:the first fear and then the next piece is a very small, you know,
Tara Bryan:just something to think about right like a 10 bit or whatever.
Tara Bryan:I had more resources you know, in the beginning, but I think
Tara Bryan:that breaking it down day by day Every other program I've ever
Tara Bryan:done was week by week. And I feel like things got lost. I
Tara Bryan:feel like the just saw a bunch of information on a page and
Tara Bryan:they couldn't maybe even remember. And they're like,
Tara Bryan:mate, I can't remember on Friday, if I had clicked on this
Tara Bryan:training from Monday, and sometimes it's a 45 minute
Tara Bryan:YouTube video and I'm, I'm lost, I don't feel like I have time
Tara Bryan:for it. So every day, I was trying to just give them like
Tara Bryan:another four or five minutes, something to think about. And
Tara Bryan:then I was having them do checkboxes, and every single
Tara Bryan:day, and people really loved that. And the beautiful thing
Tara Bryan:was, they had to at least click through to get to the next part.
Tara Bryan:So there's that huge level of accomplishment. For people that
Tara Bryan:are like, I'm super clear on what I need to do. Did I do it?
Tara Bryan:Or did I not do it? And I just kept saying, we're not here to
Tara Bryan:be perfect. We're just here to create like a 1%, or a one
Tara Bryan:degree change, even if it's a one degree change over 30 days,
Tara Bryan:it's still success. And so people
Tara Bryan:really love that. Yeah, because every day, they could pick up
Tara Bryan:their phone, do the thing, check the boxes, and move on with
Tara Bryan:their day. Totally. And, and it was a lot of things that they
Tara Bryan:were already doing right? going, you know, maybe some movement
Tara Bryan:goal, right? Getting your steps in or doing a workout or doing a
Tara Bryan:strength strength session, or drinking more water or, you
Tara Bryan:know, choosing to not eat a bag of chips and eat the vegetables
Tara Bryan:instead. Right? Like a super simple thing. Yes. But you broke
Tara Bryan:it down into small pieces. So it wasn't like you didn't give up
Tara Bryan:everything. Don't eat anything for 30 days, which is super
Tara Bryan:overwhelming for people. Yeah. When it's like that day, it's
Tara Bryan:like, how can you just eat a little bit better or add a
Tara Bryan:little bit more protein in versus, you know, every single
Tara Bryan:day for 30 days, you can only eat this and that the other
Tara Bryan:thing, which is super restrictive, which is not your
Tara Bryan:style? Yeah. And so some of the responses you got after the 30
Tara Bryan:days, were, you know, like people want to do this forever.
Tara Bryan:Like, yeah, they're not gonna stop. Yeah. Which, which
Tara Bryan:actually brings up an interesting challenge for you.
Tara Bryan:So talk to us a little bit about. So that's the great
Tara Bryan:thing, right? Like the, the, the way that you created it this
Tara Bryan:time, though, feels more sustainable to you, it feels
Tara Bryan:better for your customers. But it also was something that even
Tara Bryan:though you've done nothing else for 30 days other than focus on
Tara Bryan:what needed to go into each day, the amount of clarity around
Tara Bryan:what you did to go in there felt more manageable to you this
Tara Bryan:time.
Tara Bryan:Yes, absolutely, it really did. And in the beginning, you know,
Tara Bryan:it was a day by day thing, I started to realize that it was
Tara Bryan:kind of the same, I was having the same journey through
Tara Bryan:building this online platform and business, I mean, something
Tara Bryan:that is the future of my business, as people you know,
Tara Bryan:the same kind of journey they have when they are trying to
Tara Bryan:develop a new habit is that I couldn't look at it as this huge
Tara Bryan:thing that I was going to do every single month for, you
Tara Bryan:know, now until forever. But he just needed to take it one day
Tara Bryan:at a time. And so I had that big, like, if I can just focus
Tara Bryan:on today or get tomorrow set up and think about where they are
Tara Bryan:and listen, then this is just going to serve me because it's
Tara Bryan:just going to become easier. And I think that that's kind of
Tara Bryan:where I am now is I always thought I would need a break
Tara Bryan:from it. Or I always thought I would need to take some time in
Tara Bryan:between and then maybe launch another one in six months. And
Tara Bryan:now I recognize that it's no different. And when we started
Tara Bryan:the fitness business of classes in person, we didn't sell a
Tara Bryan:membership to somebody for four weeks, and then say, Okay, we'll
Tara Bryan:see you again in January. We didn't say, Oh, now do you want
Tara Bryan:to take a break and come see us at our next six week program. We
Tara Bryan:just started a business sold a membership, and they just get
Tara Bryan:billed every single month for you know now until they leave.
Tara Bryan:And hopefully and we've had people with us for almost the
Tara Bryan:entire 14 years. Right? It's pretty amazing. So that is
Tara Bryan:possible in this exact challenge because they just want to be
Tara Bryan:supported all the time. They want to have somewhere to show
Tara Bryan:up. Well, and
Tara Bryan:I think that the biggest aha for you has been that yes, you had
Tara Bryan:to spend time building it. But in the past, you had tried to do
Tara Bryan:zoom calls and one on one conversations and like all of
Tara Bryan:this stuff around the online piece, which which didn't
Tara Bryan:actually maximize your time. Right, right. And so by building
Tara Bryan:a community inside of the membership hub, by serving your
Tara Bryan:people each and every day that they had, what they needed and
Tara Bryan:that and you do some extra things where you offer some
Tara Bryan:conversations with people as needed. There's some assessments
Tara Bryan:and whatnot in there, so people can track their progress. But,
Tara Bryan:and you're showing up, you know, encouraging people and answering
Tara Bryan:questions and doing all those things. But when you think about
Tara Bryan:like, when you take away the building part of this now, and
Tara Bryan:you look forward to the future, when you're launching this next
Tara Bryan:one, the one after that, the one after that, what do you estimate
Tara Bryan:is your is the time that you have to actively be in that part
Tara Bryan:of the business?
Tara Bryan:Like, oh, yeah, I mean, half hour in a day, an hour a day?
Tara Bryan:Yeah, probably, I mean, an hour a day feels like it would give
Tara Bryan:me plenty of time to to keep doing that, right. And then I'm
Tara Bryan:just the most excited, I mean, I love watching the members
Tara Bryan:interact with each other. And then I love to be there as a
Tara Bryan:cheerleader cheering them on. And then I love hearing things
Tara Bryan:that people could use a little bit more of, because I'm really
Tara Bryan:excited. At this point, I feel 100% confident in the content
Tara Bryan:that I've got, and I'm so excited to see it from another
Tara Bryan:angle this next month, so that I can just like, make it even
Tara Bryan:better. You know, and think about where where could I have
Tara Bryan:dropped? Where did I drop the ball a little bit? Or what do I
Tara Bryan:need to expand on and so what I'm most excited about see it
Tara Bryan:from that. I mean, it's still kind of even a pipe dream at
Tara Bryan:this point for me to say, really, like, I will be able to
Tara Bryan:just nurture this for an hour a day. And then it can just go
Tara Bryan:okay, and I'm going to add in an hour a day on the boat, because
Tara Bryan:like, you could do it actually from your phone. Yeah, you don't
Tara Bryan:need to be in an office and guy. Right, right, which is
Tara Bryan:incredible to think about and has not been my life thus far.
Tara Bryan:But I just, I think the thing I'm the most excited about is
Tara Bryan:when I feel like I've got that time to really spread the word
Tara Bryan:about how this is changing people's lives and focus more on
Tara Bryan:marketing, because Tara, you know that I'm a deliverer and a
Tara Bryan:connector. And I want to be like, right in with the people.
Tara Bryan:But when it gets to me talking about my stuff, and putting, you
Tara Bryan:know, all the wins out there and all that it's not that I don't
Tara Bryan:want to or find value in it, it's just that it's the thing
Tara Bryan:that falls off my list, because I have so many other things that
Tara Bryan:need immediate attention was like shall wait to have time for
Tara Bryan:that, because I know, it will just help me reach more people.
Tara Bryan:Totally for sure. In the end, this allows you to do that,
Tara Bryan:because it's just going to continue to exponentially grow.
Tara Bryan:So one last thing I want to just throw out and then and then I
Tara Bryan:just want to close us off is one of the core objections I would
Tara Bryan:say that you had around this whole process was that you were
Tara Bryan:going to lose connection with, with people within your
Tara Bryan:community, that you are going to be sitting behind a computer all
Tara Bryan:alone without anyone to talk to and like you weren't gonna be
Tara Bryan:building your community, right? Like that's one of the reasons
Tara Bryan:that that you've been so resistant to shifting. Is that
Tara Bryan:peace? Talk to me just a little bit about your experience in
Tara Bryan:this 30 days with this group do you feel disconnected to to the
Tara Bryan:group as they're going through this online? Or do you feel more
Tara Bryan:connected? Because you're getting, you're getting so much
Tara Bryan:more feedback for the people who are actively involved on what
Tara Bryan:they're doing? Like daily feedback? Oh,
Tara Bryan:totally. Yes, no, I feel like I know them as well as anybody
Tara Bryan:else. And I feel like I've been able to give them so much more
Tara Bryan:support than I ever could, even if I saw them every day. Like,
Tara Bryan:even if I saw them in the gym every day, I wouldn't have my
Tara Bryan:thoughts about the while I'm teaching a class to give them
Tara Bryan:the things that they need outside of the gym, because
Tara Bryan:that's the hardest part is, you know, to get people to show up
Tara Bryan:for a workout is you know what, you have 23 other hours in a
Tara Bryan:day, you need to be in their mind as well. And like, I feel
Tara Bryan:like this has been able to give them the stuff to think about
Tara Bryan:when they're not doing the workout. And this is the mindset
Tara Bryan:shift in Yeah, awesome. All right, very cool. Thank
Tara Bryan:you, Kelly, for being on the show. If you are thinking about
Tara Bryan:creating a membership, or some sort of online component to your
Tara Bryan:business or an online business, you know, take Kelly's journey
Tara Bryan:and some of the things that she shared and really take those to
Tara Bryan:heart, right, like how can you start to shift online, even just
Tara Bryan:you know, moving it into small bite sized pieces. Alright,
Tara Bryan:Kelly, so give our audience sort of your final thoughts what
Tara Bryan:would be you know, like, what's your biggest advice for somebody
Tara Bryan:who's getting into this? And then leave us off with how can
Tara Bryan:people find out about this
Tara Bryan:amazing a challenge? Yes, yes. So I think my biggest piece of
Tara Bryan:advice is, you know, start small and don't allow yourself to get
Tara Bryan:overwhelmed or to get frustrated that it's not where you think
Tara Bryan:that it shouldn't be. Because it can be easy to do. There were
Tara Bryan:many times over the four years where I would say, Oh, should I
Tara Bryan:should I keep nurturing this should I keep and and I think it
Tara Bryan:just was when you when I thought about reach and I thought about
Tara Bryan:impact, just keep knowing that your expertise is so important
Tara Bryan:to so many people out there and just keep realizing how big the
Tara Bryan:world is. I think it's really easy for us, especially as you
Tara Bryan:know, moms to think that our world revolves around this like
Tara Bryan:little 10 mile radius that we're involved in with our kids or our
Tara Bryan:local business. But that was the biggest thing for me is just
Tara Bryan:keep going and keep trying. And if it doesn't feel right, think
Tara Bryan:about how you could make it smaller, rather than thinking
Tara Bryan:about how you can make it bigger. Ben, be up so maybe
Tara Bryan:that's it. But yeah, that's the epiphany. Like if something's
Tara Bryan:not working, think about how you can make it easier and smaller
Tara Bryan:rather than thinking how do I make this grander and bigger and
Tara Bryan:because then you actually can take steps in so there's that
Tara Bryan:Yeah, and you can connect with me the website for the
Tara Bryan:challenges Altman fitness.com 30 Day Challenge and we're on
Tara Bryan:Facebook and Instagram at Altman Fitness.
