Speaker:

We are here to take away

your case of the Mondays.

2

:

That's what we're here for.

3

:

Thank you.

4

:

Yep.

5

:

We're.

6

:

We're here to do that.

7

:

I appreciate it.

8

:

Yeah.

9

:

Well, you're welcome.

10

:

You're welcome.

11

:

Yeah.

12

:

It's Monday, it's Monday, June 10th, 2024.

13

:

You're the Lord.

14

:

That's true.

15

:

Yep.

16

:

Here it is.

17

:

It's it's here.

18

:

Uh, big week this week, we've

got national quick conference.

19

:

That's right.

20

:

That's right.

21

:

This week, it is happening

technically this weekend.

22

:

Although we will be back at

church on Sunday morning.

23

:

So don't think that church is not

happening or, and we'd like you

24

:

to be there too for the record.

25

:

We need you to be there.

26

:

If you would be there, we

would really appreciate that.

27

:

Yeah.

28

:

Otherwise, it's just

preaching to an empty room.

29

:

And that would be, that'd be a bummer.

30

:

That would be like COVID all over

again, which was never again.

31

:

Good.

32

:

I don't even say that.

33

:

Yeah, nobody wants that.

34

:

Guard.

35

:

Yeah, but we're taking off.

36

:

Uh, I know my family was taken off.

37

:

I think on Wednesday night, PR

you guys are coming out Thursday.

38

:

Well after, yeah.

39

:

After student ministry, we're

going to go home and take a nap.

40

:

What we're gonna call it sleep.

41

:

And we're gonna wake up really

early and depart somewhere in

42

:

the wee hours of the morning.

43

:

Sounds good.

44

:

Yeah.

45

:

Yeah, it should be a good time.

46

:

I think we're taking almost

30 people from our church down

47

:

there, so that should be good.

48

:

That's awesome.

49

:

I didn't realize it was that many.

50

:

I think 27 is our official number that

are registered for the conference.

51

:

Hopefully they come back.

52

:

Yeah.

53

:

All 27.

54

:

Yeah, that's true.

55

:

Yeah.

56

:

If you're unaware of what this is, this

is a conference that, uh, is, is, I don't

57

:

even know how, when it happens every two

years is that by annually, that's not.

58

:

By newly would be twice a year.

59

:

Um, semi.

60

:

Annually would be twice a year.

61

:

So by annually, Is every two years.

62

:

Every three years.

63

:

I don't know anyways, it's it's

every three years, this takes place.

64

:

At least it has so far.

65

:

We've had one.

66

:

And this is the second one.

67

:

Every three years or every other year.

68

:

Every other year, right?

69

:

Yeah, it happens then there's not one.

70

:

And then it happens again.

71

:

Why is this?

72

:

So it's confusing because

it's Monday and yet it's not.

73

:

It's biennial.

74

:

Bye.

75

:

Bye.

76

:

That is confusing, uses an adjective

in the English language where it

77

:

means taking place every other year.

78

:

Well, Yeah, I reject that language

because I don't understand it.

79

:

That's what grammar.com said, bro.

80

:

Well, grimmer.com.

81

:

Just the messenger.

82

:

Fine.

83

:

Fair enough.

84

:

But, uh, yeah, so that's where

we'll be this week and, uh, as such.

85

:

Uh, you don't know this, but

we are recording a lot of

86

:

these episodes ahead of time.

87

:

Yeah.

88

:

So if something big happens and we're

not talking about it, it's not because

89

:

that, we're not thinking about it.

90

:

Exactly.

91

:

We're just not profits yet.

92

:

We are not, we've not been given

that dispensation and we won't.

93

:

Yeah.

94

:

To our knowledge, to our knowledge.

95

:

Yeah.

96

:

So we're, uh, we're looking for

to that, but yeah, we're, we're

97

:

laying down a lot of these episodes

we did for earlier this week.

98

:

Another for today.

99

:

I was going to do before on

Saturday for more on next Tuesday.

100

:

And then you're going to go on vacation.

101

:

Yes, you're going to leave

us for like three weeks.

102

:

Uh, not quite.

103

:

Now, but a couple of weeks,

we're looking forward to that.

104

:

We're excited about that.

105

:

You're going to be preaching.

106

:

Yeah.

107

:

In Maine.

108

:

I am.

109

:

First one.

110

:

So, yep.

111

:

First of many, it should be a I'm excited.

112

:

I'm excited to hear it.

113

:

I've.

114

:

I've they're not going to be

there well, but I'll listen still.

115

:

I'm not going to let you listen.

116

:

Okay.

117

:

Don't post this one on that.

118

:

It's not going to happen.

119

:

I'm excited about it and I'm

excited to get to cover for you.

120

:

Glad you get a couple weeks off.

121

:

Yeah, me too.

122

:

Let me see, man, it's going to be good.

123

:

Who's doing worship.

124

:

David.

125

:

David Rapido.

126

:

Well, right.

127

:

David and Abe, we're gonna be working

together to, to make it, to make it work.

128

:

So I'm excited to see what

it's going to be like.

129

:

Cause I've never sat on

the other side of it.

130

:

I've been up there every

single week, right.

131

:

Since we started.

132

:

Yep.

133

:

Which is really cool to

think about on the one hand.

134

:

And then the other side,

I'm like, oh, here we go.

135

:

I get to.

136

:

Well, how do they say at T take

your taste, your own dog food,

137

:

eat your own dog food, something

like that, something like that.

138

:

But I get to do that, whatever that is.

139

:

Okay.

140

:

So pastor Rod's going to

be eating some dog food.

141

:

That's right.

142

:

I've got some by the way.

143

:

I need to swing by the

house and pick them up.

144

:

Is.

145

:

Is that how you're staying so lean.

146

:

You know, it's the.

147

:

Yeah, no.

148

:

Bro.

149

:

No.

150

:

No.

151

:

Yeah, Maverick, you keep calling them.

152

:

What do you keep calling him?

153

:

Patrick.

154

:

Patrick.

155

:

That's right.

156

:

That's not it.

157

:

It's a Maverick.

158

:

I like Patrick though.

159

:

Yeah, but that's not his name.

160

:

Yeah.

161

:

Rename somebody's dog.

162

:

You know what I say?

163

:

Do it enough.

164

:

Somebodies kid.

165

:

If I do that enough.

166

:

People will start calling them that.

167

:

And then next thing you know, you're not.

168

:

Any options.

169

:

Well, it'll start responding to the name

and the next thing you know, he'll only

170

:

respond to that name and then it's over.

171

:

Yeah.

172

:

A true north cap is happening.

173

:

Yeah, we're doing a tournament.

174

:

We're going to try to

do an annual tournament.

175

:

And typically it's small group based and

there's act there's a competitive events.

176

:

And then everybody fights for the glory

and honor of having the trophy cup.

177

:

And then you get to hold it for the year

and then there's another tournament.

178

:

And then you keep playing until, I

mean, Every name on there and see

179

:

how many times you put it up there.

180

:

So it's really cool.

181

:

It can be really fun.

182

:

Still working out some of the

game ideas, but I think it's

183

:

going to be really, really cool.

184

:

So my son was telling me about this

because, uh, he didn't, you don't

185

:

know if he knew this about Josh,

but he's somewhat competitive.

186

:

No, really?

187

:

Yeah.

188

:

Your son.

189

:

He is.

190

:

Yeah.

191

:

Your son go figure.

192

:

Weird, but of course it's as the high

school boys would be apt to do when you.

193

:

Talked about this, this last

week at youth, they were pretty

194

:

confident in themselves and oh yeah.

195

:

And I heard that you had said, well,

it's not necessarily going to be

196

:

athletic only that there might be some

math and they were all very excited.

197

:

They called out Ranjeet

and then like, oh, okay.

198

:

What if it's I forgot what

else I said, but anyway, yeah.

199

:

They're feeling really confident

and to their credit, they probably

200

:

have a pretty strong legal yeah.

201

:

brilliant.

202

:

And when my kids are sick, they

go to him for the diagnosis.

203

:

And he's sitting there going,

well, it could be this and it

204

:

could be this and it could be this.

205

:

You can't read scripts yet.

206

:

So, no, he can't.

207

:

He can't until that, until

it gets to that point.

208

:

Yeah.

209

:

Anyways, that should be awesome, man.

210

:

But yeah, our youth group

is rounding into form.

211

:

I feel like that.

212

:

Getting a few more students in with that

promotion Sunday was helpful to fill

213

:

out the body weight a little bit and.

214

:

It does feel better.

215

:

Yeah.

216

:

That's good.

217

:

We can keep it and expand it.

218

:

Yeah, that'd be great.

219

:

That'd be great.

220

:

Well, let's jump into our

daily Bible reading today.

221

:

Proverbs 22, 23, 24, not

28 minutes long today.

222

:

Nope.

223

:

That's our guarantee.

224

:

We.

225

:

In our defense.

226

:

So the program that we use to record

the podcast, it's called a script.

227

:

This is adding to our time.

228

:

And it's great.

229

:

But, uh, they did an update

and they took away our timer.

230

:

So.

231

:

And that first episode, I looked

up to where our timer normally

232

:

is on it and it was not there.

233

:

So.

234

:

I just guessed and we came

out at almost 30 minutes.

235

:

I'm looking at it right now.

236

:

There's there's no timer anywhere.

237

:

You can't see.

238

:

How long are you going?

239

:

There's none.

240

:

That is a dream.

241

:

That's a terrible oversight, but

my phone is going and we've had

242

:

we're at six and a half minutes.

243

:

Okay, so let's jump into the Bible.

244

:

Let's do it.

245

:

Proverbs 22 verse one.

246

:

A good name is to be chosen

rather than great riches and favor

247

:

is better than silver or gold.

248

:

In other words, your reputation matters.

249

:

Uh, we're going to talk about

this again from Solomon's pen

250

:

in the book of Ecclesiastes.

251

:

He's he's going to talk about this in.

252

:

In the context of death, when

he says in Ecclesiastes seven a

253

:

that a good name is to be chosen.

254

:

Similar language here.

255

:

And then he, he talks about it's, it's

better to go to the house of mourning

256

:

than to the house of mirth of joy.

257

:

And what he's trying to get us to

understand is his death is coming

258

:

like a brick wall and we need to

be living now in light of that.

259

:

And in the way that we live our

life is going to impact that

260

:

reputation in, in whatever that

reputation is when we're gone.

261

:

So here.

262

:

Present tense.

263

:

He's saying, look.

264

:

Sun choose a good name

rather than great riches.

265

:

Don't don't sacrifice, your honor.

266

:

Don't sacrifice your reputation.

267

:

Uh, to, to get ahead in life.

268

:

And we can certainly extrapolate

that out and apply that to our

269

:

relationship with Christ and to

say, look, our, our reputation is

270

:

not just our reputation, but in the

world, our reputation as ambassadors

271

:

of Christ is also Christ reputation.

272

:

And so we need to make sure that we are

conducting ourselves in a way not to

273

:

bring dishonor on the name of Jesus in the

way that we interact with our neighbors

274

:

or our coworkers or our family members.

275

:

Uh, just to maybe get ahead in life or

get a cheap laugh or whatever it may be.

276

:

We need to be mindful that we bear

multiple reputations, not just ours,

277

:

but also the reputation of our savior

as we conduct ourselves in this world.

278

:

And part of managing that reputation

is in verse 15, folly is bound

279

:

up in the heart of a child.

280

:

Uh, but the rod of discipline

drives it far from him.

281

:

Part of maintaining a right

expectation or reputation for Christ.

282

:

Is to make sure that your

family does a good job of that.

283

:

Now, of course, your kids are not going

to be saved right out of the womb.

284

:

God willing there'll be saved

somewhere as they're growing up in

285

:

the, in the household of the faith.

286

:

And of course in the church, But

your job as a parent is to help.

287

:

Uh, help drive out the folly that is

laid in, in the sinner's heart, which

288

:

is of course true for all of our kids.

289

:

And it's true for all of us as well,

for those of us who are adults.

290

:

And so here you have scripture

saying the, the rod of discipline.

291

:

That's that's, that's pretty

clear what it's talking about.

292

:

It's it's an item.

293

:

It's a stick using some kind of

disciplinary item to spank your

294

:

children is something against scripture

points to as being a way of wisdom.

295

:

Uh, the way of wisdom.

296

:

Now I have a question.

297

:

And this is for you, pastor Peter.

298

:

I'd love for us to quickly dialogue quick.

299

:

Yep.

300

:

Not 28 minutes worth.

301

:

The Proverbs are what say that

you should spank your child.

302

:

This is the wisdom literature.

303

:

Does this mean I have to spank my child?

304

:

Or is this merely something

that says, Hey, this is a, a

305

:

wise way to approach your kids.

306

:

And maybe I want to do a timeout

instead, or maybe I want to.

307

:

Uh, you know, just give them

a stern talking to, and my

308

:

compelled to spank my child.

309

:

According to scripture here.

310

:

Or does this give me some flexibility

to make a different decision?

311

:

Uh, my, my approach to this as is.

312

:

Like this discipline, it needs to hurt.

313

:

Um, And that's going to look different

for different kids in, in different

314

:

contexts and in different families.

315

:

But I think the most.

316

:

Readily, uh, Uh, available

in an easily applicable.

317

:

Motive discipline is, is corporal

punishment is, is spanking.

318

:

It is.

319

:

Applying that, that force to the

body, to, to inflict pain so that

320

:

the child says, okay, that hurt.

321

:

And it hurt because I did this.

322

:

So I don't want to do that anymore.

323

:

I think there's a reason why in the wisdom

literature that's, what's commended.

324

:

So I think it's, it's probably the

right thing for most people to pursue.

325

:

Um, but is it.

326

:

Is does that say that there's no other

way that you can discipline your child?

327

:

Uh, no, it doesn't say that, but again, I

think the principle that we have to draw

328

:

out of this is discipline needs to hurt.

329

:

Otherwise you run the risk of

your child growing up to love,

330

:

falling in love foolishness.

331

:

So if, if you are going to choose

another method of discipline, make

332

:

sure that it is disciplined, that that

is actually felt by the child that.

333

:

You know, and, and that's,

that's the danger of something

334

:

like the timeout chair.

335

:

I think a lot of times kids

are like, okay, fine, whatever.

336

:

I'm just going to go sit in the timeout

chair and really you're not getting

337

:

after the consequence of their actions.

338

:

And really you're just giving them

time to stew about how angry they

339

:

are, that, that you put them there.

340

:

Uh, so I think that the physical

act of discipline is helpful

341

:

because it's, it's usually quick.

342

:

It's over sooner than later, right?

343

:

And then you have an opportunity

on the back end of it.

344

:

To comfort the child.

345

:

You have an opportunity to comfort them.

346

:

Not by.

347

:

Saying, Hey, it's okay.

348

:

That you sinned, but, but

comfort that their tears.

349

:

Um, to love them and then also to teach

them into, to help them understand why.

350

:

Uh, they, they received the

discipline that they did and why.

351

:

What they did was, was wrong.

352

:

So I would say, I think the best

practice, most, almost 99% of the

353

:

time is going to be spanking a child.

354

:

But the reason why I give that caveat

is, you know, if you find yourself in

355

:

a situation where that, that doesn't

work, because it doesn't work for all

356

:

children there, I've heard of children

that, that sit there and just take

357

:

it and are like that didn't hurt.

358

:

And the hardest, so heart there, then

maybe you have to try to figure out a way.

359

:

Okay.

360

:

There's something that's going to hurt.

361

:

And so I need to figure

out what that looks like.

362

:

Yeah, I would agree with you on that.

363

:

I think, um, Now we, we, uh,

we we've done this and I think

364

:

there's a right way to do it.

365

:

And there's of course, a wrong way.

366

:

So when, when you hear spanking

in your mind, there's a lot

367

:

of images that may come up.

368

:

I just want to say that what

we're talking about is not.

369

:

Uh, again, angry, abusive, discipline.

370

:

We're not talking about

beating your childbirth.

371

:

You're saying that this is

what scripture commends.

372

:

That doesn't command timeouts.

373

:

It doesn't command.

374

:

Hey, no cell phone usage for

an hour or whatever it is.

375

:

Um, that I'm sure you're going

to say, well, they didn't have

376

:

that back then I get that.

377

:

But this is what scripture commence.

378

:

This is what is saying,

this is good and helpful.

379

:

And I would agree it needs

to hurt and needs be painful.

380

:

And typically physical pain to the

rear end is really, really useful

381

:

toward that end because I've seen.

382

:

I just personally, I've got five

kids now and only one of them at

383

:

this point is not being disciplined.

384

:

The others have been, and there

is typically a good change.

385

:

That's discernible after the act is done.

386

:

Yup.

387

:

There is a positive response

because they get it.

388

:

Sin hurts.

389

:

It creates bad consequences.

390

:

And I think that's the ultimate

goal of parenting like this it's

391

:

redemptive and it's purpose.

392

:

It's not meant to be merely punitive.

393

:

Yeah.

394

:

One more note on that parents

it's super important that

395

:

you're consistent with this.

396

:

Uh, because if you're not,

your kid will learn that too.

397

:

And that's almost more hurtful than

it is to not do any discipline at all.

398

:

So be consistent as much as you're not

going to want to, um, Be consistent

399

:

with it and that's super important.

400

:

Because in, and this is earlier.

401

:

Uh, when he says in the same

chapter, Turn up a child for six

402

:

and the way that he should go.

403

:

And even when he is old,

he will not depart from it.

404

:

Uh, there's uh, thoughts that

this is, is referring to the,

405

:

the negative side of things.

406

:

Like if you just let a child.

407

:

You train them up by just letting him

choose the way that he wants to go.

408

:

Uh, then when he's around, he's

going to continue to do that.

409

:

Right.

410

:

And so that's one of the things

that discipline helps avoid.

411

:

The next section, uh, beginning in verse

17 and following, uh, actually goes

412

:

through, uh, the next couple of chapters

are the words of the wise wise men.

413

:

Uh, that were compiled by Solomon.

414

:

So these are statements in sayings

that didn't necessarily originate with

415

:

king Solomon, but he compiled them.

416

:

And in brought them into, uh, into the

compendium of wisdom literature that

417

:

he has here in the book of Proverbs.

418

:

Some have argued, Hey, there's a lot

of similarities between these Proverbs

419

:

and some of the statements and sings

in ancient, near Eastern literature.

420

:

And so maybe these are borrowing

from there and bringing them over the

421

:

main difference here y'all is that

the there's a connection to Yahweh.

422

:

There's a connection to the

covenant, God of Israel.

423

:

That's in view throughout all of this.

424

:

And that's what does differentiate the

wisdom of God from the wisdom of men.

425

:

There may be similar principles.

426

:

Like you may find.

427

:

An unbeliever who says, yeah, I think

it's good to discipline your child, but

428

:

the reason they're disciplining their

child is different than the reason

429

:

that you're disciplining your child.

430

:

And so they may be able to

say, yeah, spare the child.

431

:

Or spare the rod spoil the child.

432

:

And you might say the same

thing, but you're gonna have a

433

:

different understanding of why.

434

:

So that's, we don't need to recoil and be

like, oh no, there's similarities between

435

:

this and ancient near Eastern literature.

436

:

Those similarities are fine.

437

:

But there's a massive difference in

that this is wisdom that is related to,

438

:

and coming from the God of creation.

439

:

The God of Israel, the God that we

serve today versus the minds of humanity

440

:

that because they've got the law of God

written on their hearts, come to some of

441

:

the same conclusions that believers do.

442

:

Man.

443

:

Chapter 23 chapter 23.

444

:

Let's do it.

445

:

Can I start us off with

verse four, go for it.

446

:

Do not toil to acquire wealth,

be discerning enough to assist.

447

:

And I would qualify this because I think

the important part is not that you're

448

:

toiling to acquire wealth, but you're

toiling to acquire temporary wealth.

449

:

Thanks scripture would commend you to

toil, to acquire eternal wealth and

450

:

to have a right standing before God.

451

:

You don't want to be like the fool

and Luke who's toiling to build his

452

:

barns and expand his territories.

453

:

When that very night, his soul is

required of him and he's poor toward

454

:

God, but only rich toward man.

455

:

So toil.

456

:

To acquire eternal wealth.

457

:

Right, right.

458

:

Yeah.

459

:

Because verse five, when your

eyes light on it, it's gone.

460

:

Suddenly it spread sprouts wings.

461

:

Wait a minute.

462

:

Where did they go?

463

:

Why don't I have it.

464

:

Repairs and taxes and all sorts

of neighbors pooping on your lawn.

465

:

I mean, just who knows what happens.

466

:

I thought it was dogs.

467

:

Well, I mean, essentially to them though.

468

:

Okay.

469

:

Cause it's their dogs.

470

:

I agree to disagree.

471

:

Uh, verse 12, seek and pursue

wisdom and knowledge apply your

472

:

heart to instruction in your ear.

473

:

To words of knowledge, this is

just a reset, kind of for Solomon

474

:

as he's going through here.

475

:

He said this multiple times.

476

:

Th throughout the book and here

it is, again, make sure that

477

:

you are doing that verse 13.

478

:

We just talked about it.

479

:

Do not withhold discipline from a child.

480

:

There it is.

481

:

Again.

482

:

If you strike them with

a rod, he will not dock.

483

:

Die.

484

:

I don't like this verse here.

485

:

He's not going to die, bro.

486

:

He's going to be fine.

487

:

Right?

488

:

Just do it right.

489

:

Yep.

490

:

Tears dry.

491

:

She needs it and there'll be okay.

492

:

And let me encourage you.

493

:

If, if you're out there as a young

parent, Or you don't have children yet,

494

:

but you're praying that the Lord will

provide that or you're not married yet.

495

:

And you're thinking about this and,

and this concept of, of spanking

496

:

your children lead you to go, man.

497

:

I that terrifies me.

498

:

I don't want my kid to hate me.

499

:

Can you hear from pastor Ana who have,

have both put this in practice in our

500

:

lives that, that you don't need to be

afraid of that if it's, if it's done.

501

:

Correctly.

502

:

If it's done biblically, if it's

done lovingly, right, your kids

503

:

are not going to hate you for this.

504

:

Uh, in fact, there's, there's things

in the Bible that tell us the opposite

505

:

that they will love you for it.

506

:

Eventually and.

507

:

And so just be encouraged by that.

508

:

I know you're looking at your little

bundle of joy that you're holding

509

:

in your arms right now thinking

I would never, well, you will.

510

:

Uh, and you should, if

you love them, right.

511

:

If you love them.

512

:

And you should, and they

will love you for it.

513

:

Maybe not in the moment, but, um, but

they will love you for eventually.

514

:

Yeah, they will.

515

:

Yeah.

516

:

Uh, verse 20 being out

among the drunkards.

517

:

There's that admonition again, or among

the gluttonous eaters of meat that.

518

:

That's a sin that we don't often talk

about and the church has gluttony.

519

:

Oh, that's an interesting one.

520

:

You're stepping on toes.

521

:

Yeah.

522

:

You're meddling.

523

:

Here we go.

524

:

Yeah.

525

:

Well, yeah.

526

:

Okay.

527

:

I'm ready for it.

528

:

I'm just going to get that.

529

:

Michael Jackson.

530

:

Setting the stage too much.

531

:

Michael Jackson.

532

:

He rubbed his eating popcorn.

533

:

Yeah, you're setting the stage too much.

534

:

No gluttony.

535

:

That's one of those things where it looks

different for different people, right?

536

:

But where you go too far.

537

:

And you're eating to excess and, uh,

you're taking something that the Lord.

538

:

Uh, provided to be enjoyed in

moderation and you're abusing it.

539

:

You're going to far.

540

:

And sometimes food can

become an idol for us.

541

:

Food can become a source of coping for us.

542

:

We feel like, man, I need to

eat my emotions or whatever.

543

:

Yep.

544

:

Or, or drink on that side of things.

545

:

So it's, it's one that we

don't often talk about.

546

:

We do talk about drunkenness and I

think that's one that we point the

547

:

finger at and we can say, yeah, surely

that's bad and we can identify that.

548

:

But, but gluttony is condemned

in scripture as well.

549

:

And I think we need to be careful how

many times we're going to the cabinet and

550

:

maybe we just need to put the fork down.

551

:

Oh, so.

552

:

Uh, verse 23 by truth and do not sell it

by wisdom, instruction and understanding.

553

:

This is my theme verse.

554

:

Whenever I buy a book.

555

:

I will rarely pause to ask myself if this

book's worth buying, I'll just buy it.

556

:

I, because I think scripture commends the.

557

:

I mean, we talked about this before

learning, growing, we should be hungry

558

:

and voracious to learn and grow because

the more we do this, the better we

559

:

can understand and glorify God in

the world that he's made around us.

560

:

And so.

561

:

We should be encouraged to buy things

that are going to support that end.

562

:

So if it's buying expensive software

to help you learn to study your Bible

563

:

better, that's a good investment.

564

:

That's buying a good, uh,

commentary series for your family.

565

:

That's a good investment.

566

:

That's where spending money makes a lot

of sense buying, you know, a TV series,

567

:

you know, buying a complete series

set for a hundred bucks or whatever.

568

:

Okay.

569

:

I know people do that and that's, that's

fine if you want to, but man, take that a

570

:

hundred bucks and buy a series of books.

571

:

That's going to be really good in

your family library by, by some, some

572

:

sources that are gonna be useful to

the family by truth and do not sell it.

573

:

Find reputable resources

and spend money on it.

574

:

That's going to be a bigger ROI

than just about anything else

575

:

that you're gonna spend money on.

576

:

Yep.

577

:

Versus 33 35 then in extended or prolonged

warning against drunkenness talks about

578

:

what the effects of drunkenness are,

uh, in the, the outcome of it as well.

579

:

And so pretty self-explanatory as

you get through there, chapter 24.

580

:

Then chapter 24.

581

:

Verses three and four by wisdom,

a house is built by understanding

582

:

it is established by knowledge.

583

:

The rooms are filled with all

sorts of pleasant and precious.

584

:

Uh, Rich's.

585

:

Uh, wisdom and knowledge are

the foundation of the house.

586

:

They build the house.

587

:

Obviously, we're not talking

about the brick and mortar.

588

:

Uh, yes.

589

:

Wisdom has to be involved there so

that your toilet is not right next

590

:

to your bed or anything like that.

591

:

That would be foolish.

592

:

And, and you want to be careful about

that, but we're talking about building

593

:

the house as far as building that the

household, the family, um, and wisdom

594

:

and knowledge are in such an important

element of that in, in with those things.

595

:

If you are wise in the way that

you were raising your, your

596

:

household, Managing your household.

597

:

And then the, the rooms are going to be

filled with precious and pleasant riches.

598

:

It's going to be a good place to be.

599

:

You're going to make memories.

600

:

You're going to have a good family.

601

:

You're going to love your home.

602

:

And want to be there.

603

:

So some helpful advice there.

604

:

In verses three and four.

605

:

Verse 10, if you faint in the day of

adversity, your strength is small.

606

:

That's the song that we sing.

607

:

Uh, here, the safe.

608

:

I say that's where it comes from.

609

:

Yep.

610

:

Uh, so just know that the, the day of

adversity is intended to showcase your

611

:

weakness and to showcase God's strength.

612

:

And if your strength is indeed small rest

assured that God intends to grow your

613

:

strength by sending you through adversity.

614

:

That's.

615

:

That's part of the, the part of the path.

616

:

Of his growing you so know when

God sends you through adversity.

617

:

It's intentional.

618

:

It's right.

619

:

It's good.

620

:

No suffering is ever wasted

in the life of the Christian.

621

:

Can I back up one verse the devising?

622

:

Nope.

623

:

Okay.

624

:

Well, I'm going to anyways.

625

:

Okay.

626

:

The devising of folly is sin.

627

:

That is such an important one to

you because there are some times

628

:

where we can think about sin and

know that it's wrong and yet make

629

:

plans to sin knowing that it's wrong.

630

:

And even therein is, is sin beginning.

631

:

When, when the planning, when the

conniving, when the thinking about

632

:

sinning is taking place in your heart.

633

:

That here Solomon is saying,

even that is, is sin.

634

:

The devising of folly is sin itself.

635

:

And so sin.

636

:

Uh, sometimes begins way before

we even start to act it out.

637

:

Amen.

638

:

Verses 17 through 18, do not rejoice

when your enemy falls and let not your

639

:

heart be glad when he stumbles, this

is a warning against conceit, which is

640

:

basically what that is concede is exalting

over the downfall of your opponent.

641

:

It is.

642

:

It is flexing over there, suffering and

here Solomon is saying, don't do that.

643

:

Less the Lord.

644

:

See it, and be displeased and

turn away his anger from him.

645

:

It's interesting.

646

:

The motivation there is

still comes back to the self.

647

:

It's like you, you want them

to receive the justice and the

648

:

punishment that they're due.

649

:

Don't gloat too much.

650

:

Otherwise God may pull back on that.

651

:

And, and really to, to

teach you a lesson in that.

652

:

And then interesting.

653

:

Again, sanctified.

654

:

Self-interest it's just,

there's so much in scripture.

655

:

That's shrewdly like, Hey,

don't you want things to go well

656

:

for you, then do what I say.

657

:

I love that.

658

:

I think that's such a cool aspect

that we often, I don't know.

659

:

Uh, under, under cell

in the Christian life.

660

:

I mean, there is godly self-interest

there is a righteous self-interest and

661

:

I think you see a lot in the Proverbs.

662

:

Uh, verse 27, prepare your

work outside and get everything

663

:

ready for yourself in the field.

664

:

Then after that, then build your house.

665

:

Uh, it may not be immediately

clear what this, what this

666

:

means for modern day people.

667

:

But essentially this is saying,

make sure you have sources of

668

:

income, prepare your fields.

669

:

Make sure you have plowing, ready to go.

670

:

You have your seeds ready to plant.

671

:

You have your hit, your field is ready.

672

:

The crops are ready to produce income

so that you can afford to build

673

:

your house and sustain your house.

674

:

I think this speaks to

investing in righteous things.

675

:

But being prepared to, uh, to do

things that are gonna make sense.

676

:

A scripture calls is prudence.

677

:

The idea of being thoughtful and

intentional about the decisions

678

:

that you make and doing.

679

:

So with an eye toward the future,

the Proverbs are very future focused

680

:

thinking about Turnell future,

but also the near term future.

681

:

And so this is a good example for you to

say, okay, I need, I need to make sure

682

:

that I'm providing a financial base.

683

:

I I'm thinking about

the sources of income.

684

:

I'm thinking about how to make sure

that my family is well provided for.

685

:

That's all I got in these, these

three, these three, I think.

686

:

You got any more?

687

:

Uh, no, not that I need to say.

688

:

Okay.

689

:

There's more there though, for sure.

690

:

There's for sure more there, but

we said we wouldn't go 28 minutes.

691

:

We've gone 22 minutes.

692

:

Okay.

693

:

We're done.

694

:

Hey.

695

:

Keeping your Bibles tune in

tomorrow for another episode

696

:

of the daily Bible podcast.

697

:

Bye.
