What happens when an ending is really a beginning? After 120 episodes and three incredible years, I’ve been reflecting on the journey from Hourly to Exit to Scaling Expertise—and how this show has become a trusted resource for protecting and scaling expertise.
In this final episode, I share my gratitude for you—the listeners, the amazing guests, and the broader community who embraced my mission of helping experts protect their IP and grow with intention.
But this isn’t goodbye. I’m excited to share what’s next: long-form content, in-person workshops, and deeper conversations about what it means to be an ethical expert in an AI-saturated world.

Hello, welcome to a very special
Speaker:episode of Scaling Expertise.
Speaker:Today's episode is a little
Speaker:bittersweet because after 125 episodes.
Speaker:A little over three years of podcasting.
Speaker:This will be the last episode of
Speaker:scaling expertise in its current form.
Speaker:First, I wanna say thank you.
Speaker:Thank you to every single listener
Speaker:who's tuned in, whether this is your
Speaker:very first episode, and if so, I'm
Speaker:glad you made it or if you've been
Speaker:with me since the beginning when I
Speaker:started with Hourly to Exit podcast.
Speaker:Thank you and thank you to all the amazing
Speaker:guests that I've had over that time.
Speaker:They have also generously shared
Speaker:their successes and their challenges.
Speaker:I personally like to think of all of
Speaker:them as my own personal coaching session.
Speaker:They all had such great
Speaker:information to share.
Speaker:And thank you to the broader community
Speaker:for your curiosity, your thoughtful
Speaker:questions, your willingness to
Speaker:think differently about expertise.
Speaker:To think about intellectual property.
Speaker:I know it's a topic that, some
Speaker:people don't like to think about,
Speaker:but thank you for bearing with me
Speaker:while I nerd out on intellectual
Speaker:property and about the future of work.
Speaker:So this podcast has been a
Speaker:really wonderful, wonderful
Speaker:chapter of my professional life.
Speaker:It stretched me, humbled me at
Speaker:times, and most importantly,
Speaker:connected me with people that I never
Speaker:would've connected with otherwise.
Speaker:I always learned something new, which is
Speaker:the great thing about creating content.
Speaker:We create content as much for
Speaker:ourselves as we do for you.
Speaker:Any content creator will tell you
Speaker:that they learn so much with every
Speaker:piece of content that they create.
Speaker:And of course, an ending
Speaker:is also beginning.
Speaker:So I'm excited to share with you
Speaker:what will be next in my journey.
Speaker:So after, sharing insights and
Speaker:interviews in this format, I
Speaker:will be pivoting to a long form.
Speaker:Content.
Speaker:So I'll be doing some deep dives
Speaker:workshops, conversations that don't just
Speaker:skim the surface, no more tips and tricks,
Speaker:but tackling some of the most urgent
Speaker:and complicated questions of our time.
Speaker:And one of those questions, how do we
Speaker:as experts, how do we serve our clients
Speaker:ethically in a world where AI is in
Speaker:everything everywhere all the time.
Speaker:So what happened?
Speaker:I had the pleasure of presenting an
Speaker:in-person workshop, and it really
Speaker:was so eye-opening to be able to go
Speaker:really deep and have that interaction
Speaker:with people, it's something that
Speaker:you just don't get on a podcast.
Speaker:And even with my, LinkedIn lives,
Speaker:which I enjoy tremendously, I still
Speaker:did not get that type of interaction,
Speaker:just that immediate feedback.
Speaker:The ability to just kind of,
Speaker:pivot and, wait, go with the flow.
Speaker:I really, really loved it and
Speaker:so I wanna do more of that.
Speaker:I wanna be in the room with
Speaker:people while we talk about these.
Speaker:Wonderful issues, so I'll be
Speaker:seeking out more opportunities to
Speaker:interact with people, in person.
Speaker:And there's another part of
Speaker:the AI conversation that I also
Speaker:wanna focus more completely on.
Speaker:we don't need to know anything more about
Speaker:prompts or about which tools to use.
Speaker:There are so many resources that will
Speaker:guide you to tell you which resources
Speaker:to use for speed or for productivity.
Speaker:My inbox is absolutely filled with,
Speaker:people who will help you with that.
Speaker:But what I really wanna dive into and
Speaker:what's really close to my heart, is to
Speaker:talk about our responsibility to talk
Speaker:about what it means to be an ethical
Speaker:expert in an AI saturated world.
Speaker:Of course legal issues
Speaker:will always be there.
Speaker:You know me, I'll keep
Speaker:talking about copyright law.
Speaker:I mean, honestly, it's impossible
Speaker:to not talk about the legal
Speaker:issues, copyright law, contracts,
Speaker:data protection, confidentiality.
Speaker:These are all elements of
Speaker:being an ethical expert.
Speaker:so, you know, the law will still
Speaker:continue to show up, but even
Speaker:bigger than the legal issues.
Speaker:Is the context of our ethical
Speaker:obligations as experts, our duty
Speaker:to our clients who place so much
Speaker:trust in us and our responsibility
Speaker:to bring integrity to our work.
Speaker:And so during conversations
Speaker:with you online, in person,
Speaker:I've heard your concerns.
Speaker:the fear of, is any AI use ethical.
Speaker:Especially when we think about, the
Speaker:bias that is unfortunately baked
Speaker:into the training data, the enormous
Speaker:environmental costs, of the power and
Speaker:energy required to operate ever more
Speaker:powerful ai, tools and the impact on jobs.
Speaker:Especially in today's environment,
Speaker:it really feels like a perfect storm.
Speaker:then there's also kind of the more
Speaker:practical questions like, how do I
Speaker:disclose my AI use to my clients?
Speaker:Do I need to, what type of attribution is.
Speaker:Required or ethically required,
Speaker:since there's generally not a legal
Speaker:requirement, but that's all separate.
Speaker:I should only go there.
Speaker:But how do I start, without falling
Speaker:into kind of getting overwhelmed.
Speaker:Frankly, there's so many
Speaker:tools, so many choices.
Speaker:you could, Add an AI tool to literally
Speaker:every element of your work if you wanted
Speaker:to, but that's gonna be their rare,
Speaker:expert who wants to go that deep with ai.
Speaker:There certainly are some who
Speaker:do and more power to them.
Speaker:I admire them.
Speaker:But for most of us, we're just looking
Speaker:for the right ways, both legally and
Speaker:ethically to add AI into our practices.
Speaker:So these are not small questions,
Speaker:but they go to the heart of being
Speaker:a trusted advisor to our clients
Speaker:and frankly to be better humans.
Speaker:So what's next?
Speaker:I'll be creating content that's
Speaker:designed for experts who care
Speaker:deeply, who care deeply about their
Speaker:clients, who care deeply about
Speaker:their body of work, about their
Speaker:reputations, about their communities,
Speaker:and about the state of the earth.
Speaker:And because you know the world is full
Speaker:of people who just use AI thoughtlessly.
Speaker:that might even be the majority
Speaker:of people I'm afraid to say.
Speaker:But what we need is a community that's
Speaker:committed to using AI with a conscience,
Speaker:and that's what I hope to build.
Speaker:it is about doing the right thing,
Speaker:not just because the law says so,
Speaker:but because our integrity demands it.
Speaker:So this isn't goodbye.
Speaker:It's, see you soon in a new format.
Speaker:And I invite you, and I hope that you'll
Speaker:stay connected with me, on LinkedIn.
Speaker:there'll be fewer, newsletters,
Speaker:but they'll come out occasionally,
Speaker:but not on any regular cadence.
Speaker:I plan to still do the
Speaker:occasional LinkedIn live.
Speaker:But as I continue to explore this
Speaker:long form content, more workshops,
Speaker:more in-depth resources, I definitely
Speaker:want you to come along so we can
Speaker:explore this new territory together.
Speaker:And I really do.
Speaker:Rely on you to get your feedback to hear
Speaker:what your thoughts, your concerns are.
Speaker:That's how I grow and can
Speaker:provide the most value to you.
Speaker:and I hope that you'll come along with
Speaker:me on that journey to get clarity and
Speaker:confidence in using AI in our work.
Speaker:So protecting client trust, protecting
Speaker:our reputations, you know, that's
Speaker:the most valuable asset that we have.
Speaker:So from the bottom of my heart,
Speaker:thank you for being part of this
Speaker:incredible journey from hourly to
Speaker:exit to scaling expertise, and now to
Speaker:what's next, diving into how to be an
Speaker:ethical expert in an AI driven world.
Speaker:So, until then, till I see you
Speaker:again, take care of yourselves, take
Speaker:care of your ip, and use AI wisely.
Speaker:Thanks again.
