Shownotes
Today I'm so honored to be joined by Julie King and Joanna Faber who are the authors of two of my favorite books, How to Talk When Kids Won’t Listen and How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen. With no exaggeration, these two books have totally transformed not only my parenting journey, but also my time in the classroom and as a summer camp director.
In this episode, we cover:
- Joanna and Julie’s journeys of parenthood and the ways they were humbled along the way
- Giving yourself lots of grace and so many chances to try again
- The connection between how kids (and adults) feel and how they behave
- Focusing on problem solving over punishment
- Teaching our kids how to address conflict in a healthy way so that we can respect needs and feelings of all people
- Suggestions on ways to inspire play between you and your kids
- How this approach affects (and helps!) the teenage years with kids
