Shownotes

He wants to pour out his soul with John Legend, would love to perform in the Billy Joel musical and plays Adele on the piano when he’s sad. Playing Warner in “Legally Blonde the Musical” James Oblak goes Beyond the Mic.

Welcome James:

We’re joined on the Starline by actor, model, singer, and musician.  You may have seen him in Scorned or Frienemies on ID Discovery. Currently on tour with the Legally Blonde musical. Allegedly only eats biscuits & gravy with iced coffee, we welcome James Oblak.

James, let’s go Beyond the Mic. You roller skate, walk on stilts and play the piano, accordion and tuba. Why is Warner such a fun role in Legally Blonde?

So in your relationships are you considered the nice guy?

How has your friendship with Hannah and the rest of this cast grown closer from the first show to today?

Weirdest thing about Hannah?

What the best snack she shares?

You produced your self-titled album during the pandemic. How did the pandemic change the way you see your art?

Best thing about Fire Island during the pandemic?

When people see Legally Blonde for the first time what do you want them to feel?

The Rockin' 8:

It’s time for the Rockin’ 8, 8 random questions; answer with the first thing that comes to your mind. There is no Pressure.

1. Best place on the Wright State University Campus?

2. Other than Rod, which character on Avenue Q do you relate the most with the most?

3. If you could have 10 minutes with any actor or musician, who are you picking and how do you want to spend that time?

4. Which theater is your favorite of all?

5. Best thing to do in Cleveland?

6. Who is the trouble maker / practical joker of the cast?

7. What’s the one comfort item you brought out on tour?

8. Your secret place to go on vacation?

The Back Half:

How have you changed from middle school to today? What would you have told your middle school self on this path of adventure and travel?

One thing you do that drives your mother crazy?

Which musical role is the dream one you want to perform but have to be patient to get?

When you are auditioning for a role, you are trying to not only fit who you are, but what the role might need from you. How has auditioning changed you and you’ve changed for auditions?

James, who is the person who inspired you growing up?

Whose music do you play when you are sad and lonely?

As the road goes on and you move onto the next city, what’s the one thing you try to find at each stop?

This experience isn’t something that someone who hasn’t done it would understand. Travel on a bus, hotel room, perform, travel on a bus, hotel room, perform, ad nauseam. What have you learned from this adventure?

Everyone defines happiness differently. What makes you happy and who tries to keep happiness from you and how do you keep the darkness from overcoming you?

Other than you, you are surrounded by so many incredible people. People come and go to a different show. Who on this tour will be the next big thing?

When did you know you made it and what is success for you now?

Two Big Questions:

Last year you celebrated the life of your late grandfather Ed. You pondered about the moment right after death. Do you feel you understand what happens now?

Can you share with us the best story of you and your grandfather growing up?

The Wrap:

His unique talents developed from being disruptive when he was younger, relates to Lucy the Slut and drives his mother crazy by leaving the bathroom moist. James Oblak is Warner in Legally Blonde the musical on tour. James, thanks for taking the time to talk with us today.

And that my friends is Beyond the Mic.
