Shownotes
Don Warrington is a staple of stage and screen, playing a whole range of roles, from smooth political operator Commissioner Selwyn Patterson in BBC’s ever popular series Death in Paradise to the lead role in King Lear. But now he’s taking on a completely different role for a different audience - playing the loveable Grandpa in The World According to Grandpa.
Grandpa answers real questions from children with nonsensical stories in this series which is a unique blend of live action storytelling, delightful animation and education with Grandpa tag the helm, taking his grandchildren on fantastic journeys through colourful, animated new worlds, all from the comfort of his sofa. It’s a show that is rooted in diversity and inclusivity, showcasing an ethnically diverse cast, diverse animation characters and crew, and a team led by Black and ethnic minority creatives.
For The British Blacklist, Afua Hagan sat down with Don Warrington to discuss becoming Grandpa - in more ways than one - and the importance of making ethnically diverse television in every way.
