You knew that going after your dream would take hard work but sometimes it feels like no amount of hard work is moving the needle, needle and there's an invisible wall keeping you from fulfilling your purpose. I felt like this many of my clients felt like this when they meet me as well. In today's episode, I'm sharing with you my story going from trauma, really awful, abusive relationships, childhood hair loss to becoming somebody who was really confident and very emotionally stable and an author of a book and owner of a really wonderful business and studying full time and doing it all with fun.
So these are real moments that, yeah, I'm going to read to you an excerpt, a couple of excerpts of. This is the first time it's out in the world, um, so I'm really excited and privileged to share it with you. When I was seven years old, really should share it with you, writing this book came because a lot of you saw that I'd been through a lot of trauma and you, you asked like, Oh, how are you so resilient?
And then I felt like the book was too much about me and I wanted to be more helpful for you and I also wanted to just maintain a little bit of privacy. And so it's become more practical and I think just a lot better to be honest, it's a refined process. So a lot of you have inspired the book. You'll see yourself in it in some places without naming you and a lot of you are new to the work and it's just a concise way of being able to apply it.
I really created it so that you can apply a lot of this work by yourself and you can become your own guru or guidepost or somatic therapist back to your truth. Let's start reading. When I was seven years old, I lost my hair due to an incurable autoimmune disease, alopecia universalis, which left a mark on my self esteem that would follow me into a very dark chapter of my life.
Oh, I'm actually crying. It's just like, it's actually a lot to go back and look at, um,
It's actually, it's just like. A lot to go back and realize and think about how dark and painful my life was and how in that moment I didn't understand or realize how it could be so much better. And I feel really privileged to be on the other side of it and see how wonderful it can be.
Um, yeah. Okay. So that's good. Let's get back into it.
I found myself in a physically, emotionally, financially, and sexually abusive relationship, which I ended through the courageous decision to leave. At that time, I was isolated in a foreign country, far from home and community, and shortly after my ex chose to end his life. In the months following his suicide, events unfolded that I still struggle to believe could have happened.
The world around me unraveled. And I encountered the darkest sides of people I'd known up until that moment, I've been studying community development and spending most of my time in small entrepreneurial ventures and volunteering with local charities. These events hit just as I officially graduated and entered the workforce, but I was a shell of a human being.
Diagnosed with complex PTSD and caught in emotional ups and downs that left me barely able to function, I found my life dark and confusing. My low self esteem, lack of self trust, anxiety and depression led me to decisions that only deepened the downward spiral I couldn't seem to escape. Until two pivotal moments that changed everything.
Oh my gosh. The pivotal moment that set everything in motion came after a particularly tough, tough therapy session and a transformative yoga class. Traditional methods, healing methods weren't helping me. But during yoga, as I twisted and stretched and relaxed into pose after pose, I felt a small relief released in my heart every time.
It was beautiful, but not enough. And I sensed deep in my gut that something better was out there. My body's found their way to my laptop and a quick search led me to somatic body based trauma therapies. With these tools, my own intuition and intelligence and the guidance of some amazing mentors, coaches, and training, I was finally able to function in the world again and started building a yoga therapy business.
If we had met back then, you might've said that I was strong, interesting, and inspiring. On paper, I looked like I had recovered. I was feeling empowered about my hair loss, wearing a wig less often, had founded a popular non profit organization, was teaching wellness to the United Nations, and was closing million dollar real estate deals.
collapsed into quarantine in:Other coaches seemed to know what they were doing, but I felt completely lost. Every time I opened my laptop, I saw other coaches wins and celebrations, and then I would switch to a black, a blank Google document and stare at the cursor blinking back at me. I felt paralyzed by fear of rejection when writing content and my voice would shake as I found, I tried to find the perfect way to express the value of my offer.
And if I did manage to book a sales call, there would be a heaviness that would settle in my chest and my mind would fog over as I listen to my potential client speak and we would walk away from that call feeling just really awkward. In a moment of surrender in the shower. I mentally quit entrepreneurship and I tried to will myself to start applying for jobs, but my body felt as heavy as lead.
So I used a breathing practice that I'd learned from somatic trauma therapy training just to find the strength to turn off the taps and step into the shower, step past that threshold. With my spine, a little bit straight, straight. I had a thought, what if I could use this intelligence in my business?
What if this was the key? Not somebody else's templates or proven strategies or structures or, or comparing myself to them, but that little voice inside of me. So I said on an experiment, I said, okay, I'll take action from this place. And I learned how to access it more deeply. And I learned to build a business and lifestyle that both protected that voice and supported it.
From that point on, even though I was still healing from a lot of past pain and navigating a really chaotic world. I created a really profitable business that made me feel so fulfilled and gave me a sense of purpose unlike anything that I ever thought was possible. Uh, as I was writing this, I, I was, I was crying and the methodology that I created as a, as a result of this has been the greatest gift that I have given myself, the people around me, and the world, you included.
I'm going to move forward to another part of chapter one.
Others started noticing the radiance I brought to my work and saw that I had accomplished something many strive tirelessly for. I had achieved something that they had been dreaming of and they wanted to help doing the same. I began helping. 10 people turned into a hundred and the numbers kept multiplying.
That's when the body based business methodology, which you are about to learn was born. It's been tried and tested on myself and countless others across many industries. And now it is ready for you moving forward a little bit in the book. It was day one of the body based business Academy and Debbie and Emily were sitting in cold, rigid chairs, notebooks open in front of them, backpacks by their side, prepared, but feeling desperately alone.
They each looked around the room, sizing everyone up, noticing bags and clothes and imagining stories about. Who each person was. They both glanced down at the intake forms, unaware that they had written nearly identical phrases, such as, It feels like everything, everyone has something figured out that I don't.
And I'd be embarrassed if people knew I actually felt this way. Had they been able to look at everyone else's paper, they would have seen that each person felt almost exactly the same way, regardless of their profession, goals, or backgrounds. Debbie and Emily's story mirrors the struggle many of us face feeling that we are constantly running uphill, unsure of how to break free from this cycle of overwhelm and self doubt that here's the thing.
It comes down to your nervous system. Once we start working with our bodies instead of against them, we can break free from that loop of stress and step into ease and alignment both in business and in life. In somatic intelligence for success, I dive deeper into how somatic intelligence, maybe you understand this through intuition or God's voice or, or instinct, or maybe you're still learning what it is and what you want to call it, but it is the key to your potential as an entrepreneur and human being.
If you're feeling stuck and overwhelmed or unsure of how to move forward, it's time to come home to it. Let your body That you, yourself, guide you back to clarity and creativity and success. You have everything you need inside of you. And I cannot wait to help you explore that further. And see how, the ripple effect that you have in the world.
Now, coming back to you, the invitation I want to share with you today on this podcast is my goal is to become Amazon bestseller and I have a very small little community.
