Have you been to YouTube University and Google College trying to figure out what to do with your website? Not very helpful, is it? Before you do something you want to do, there are some things you need to have in place first.
In this episode, I’m like your Hello Fresh for websites. I am going to give you all the ingredients you need to get it done.
If you bought a template, great. But, at some point, you’re going to outgrow that template and you will still need your site to take people from cold to sold. Your website is a 24/7 employee and a free little Canva site isn’t gonna cut it now that you’re doing business for real. You deserve better.

A Podcast Launch Bestie production
Hello, hello, hello and welcome to episode three,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:season two of More Than a Brand Podcast.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And I am excited about this episode because if you don't have a website, if
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:you do have a website, if you jumping from Squarespace, the word Press, this
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:is gonna help you know what you need to have before you even think you about
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:the Embark on this website journey.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It is a new journey that you're having with WordPress.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Now, anytime you start something new, you gonna get overwhelmed.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And we get overwhelmed because we go into, YouTube University,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:go to Google College and try to find all the things that we need.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And there is an abundance of information on the.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Some good information, some bad information, but if it's just not in your
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:lane and it's not in your wheelhouse, you going to be like, forget all this drama.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I'm just gonna keep selling from a Google Doc and keep it moving.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But I'm here to tell you, friend, you cannot show up in corporate spaces with
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:a Google Doc looking like a hot ass mess.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I'm gonna need you to figure out.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:What you want to do, who you want to sell to, and then get this website popping.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Now, just like when you start anything new, you are going to
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:have to have some things in place.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:before you actually do the thing you want to do.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So let's think about a recipe.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If you wanna cook this new meal, you gotta have all the ingredients
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:before you can make this meal.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:this is like the HelloFresh . I should probably call this episode
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:the Hello Fresher websites.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I'm giving you all the ingredients you need now.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If you don't know how to execute it, you better find somebody else, but I'm giving
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:you the blueprint doing in this episode to help you stop being overwhelmed and
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:stressed the hell out about this whole website thing because there are pieces you
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:need before you contact me, the designer.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Okay, so first and foremost, we gonna start from the very nitty gritty.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You need a brand, and I'm saying that because your designer does not
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:have time to be building your brand by while building your website.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It doesn't work that way.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:The website doesn't build a brand.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:The brand builds the website.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So when I say your brand, that means who you're selling to, your voice, your
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:strategy, and also, your visual identity.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So if you don't know who you're selling to and what kind of journey
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:you want them to have, a web designer.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:can't make that shit up.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:okay?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Because what will what'll happen is we'll make something up and you'll be like,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:that's not what I wanted, but you didn't know what you wanted when we started.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So that doesn't make sense.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So you need to know when you reach out to the people that you want to sell to,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:what is the purpose of this website?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:is it to just for them to see your services?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If so, girl, just put a bunch of pictures on a page and call it a day . But if
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:you actually want to navigate them through a journey, we have to know who
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:those people are and how to get them from point A to point B design wise.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:your brand.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Identity is important because your designer has to know what colors to use.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:We have to know what fonts to use because all those things, when you
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:combine them together, Psychologically makes people either one, it can repel.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Cuz if your website is designed terribly, 53% of your visitors and that is a fact,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:will not purchase from you and they will definitely question your credibility.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But your colors and your fonts, all those things have a psychological
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:effect on the tendencies that people have to buy or to leave your website.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:your web designer does not create that identity.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:We take that identity and we incorporate it into your website
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:so that everything is aligned.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So your number one thing before you even contact or breathe and the web designer
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:or developers way, is to make sure you got your brand strategy and visuals together.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:because I'm trying to tell you, designing your website and building your brand
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:strategy at the same time is like building a plane while you're flying it.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It's a hot ghetto mess and you don't wanna add that extra stress to yourself
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:cuz you're already overwhelmed.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Cuz you looked at 10,000 YouTube videos, went to 5,000 webinars, and
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:you think you need all the things in reality, you probably don't
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:need as much it as you think you.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So to keep that dress down, let's get our ducks in a row.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Let's get our ingredients together for our recipe for a great website.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:All right, so Brandon, we know we need that.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Write that down.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Check Brandon.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Next.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You need to have a domain.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So most people be snatching up domains like Pokemon and when I
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:mean most people, I'm talking about me cuz I got about 10 domains.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If you, and this is one rule, one business tip that I can give, I would give anyone.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If you come up with a business name or idea or a name of a program and you like,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:oh, this shit popping, I'm gonna need you to go to Google Domains and buy it for 12.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It is only $12 a year.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Buy it.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Buy it.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Even if you don't have anything to build on it, because you
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:can always use it later.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You can use it as a vanity url, and we can get into those later.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But hold on to those little veins.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Grab 'em up like Pokemon.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Okay, so once you got your domain, if you are moving from a, let's say
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:you're moving from WS or a Squarespace.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Those all inclusive platforms usually include your domain
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:and your hosting in one price.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Now with WordPress, cuz you know we all about the WordPress over here
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:with WordPress, you have options on where you can host your website.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Now there's two things now.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:WordPress has wordpress.com and they have wordpress.org.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It's the.org that I'm talking about.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:The dot com's a little different.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You don't wanna mess with that, but the.org has the ability to
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:be hosted at various places.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:That's when you get like your blue hosts, your GoDaddies,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:and my favorite is Flywheel.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Now, the perk we're working with Fify is that we.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Give you the hosting through flywheel that's included in the price for a
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:year with any website that we build.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But you have options.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Do your research.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:but I'm telling you, it's gonna be information overload and you're
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:gonna end up asking somebody what's the best one anyway.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So it's best to just hire a designer that already knows what you need
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:and stop with all that stress.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:All right, so that's the third thing.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I'm gonna do a recap cuz you know, I'd like to recap.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:First, you gotta have branding.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Second, you need your domain.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Third, you need your hosting.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Now while you grabbing up, you're hosting in your domain,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:take
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:the time to find a copywriter, and I'm gonna say it again.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Take the time to find a copywriter.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Now, I don't care if it's a.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You write the copy and you find a copyright that's gonna fix it
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:up for you, or you just pay a copyright and say, write this stuff
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:for me so I can get this website.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But you have to have someone that understands the importance of words.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:A wordsmith, a copy whisperer.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You need to have it.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:A beautiful website with shitty copy is not gonna sell.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And shitty copy on an ugly website not gonna sell.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So the two have to go hand in hand.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Same with branding.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Like all these things work together.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So when you're ready to be like, I'm ready to jump in these corporate spaces,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I'm not trying to jump up in Amazon.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I'm gonna say Amazon because everybody knows who Amazon is.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I'm not trying to go roll up and be Amazon's diversity and equity consultant,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:and all I got is this Google Doc.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You need to have all your ducks in a row.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:That means you need to have your branding.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You need to have your domain.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You need to have your hosting.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You need to find a copywriter to write this copy.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And last, and certainly not least, you need to hire a web designer
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:that understands how all these things intertwine together to
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:get you up off that Google Doc.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:in on these website streets.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:On these internet streets instead of looking a mess, because that anxiety
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:that you're feeling around your website and, and the anxiety that you're feeling
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:about putting yourself out there in the world and owning a piece of the web.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It's because you don't know what you're doing.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You've grabbed an abundance of information.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And I'm trying to tell you, I've seen people do it all the time while
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I built my own site or I brought a template and I'm not, if you
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:brought a template, I'm here for it.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But once you get past that template phase, You are gonna
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:need to know these analytics.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You are gonna need to know that this site is sighting like it's supposed to
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:because it is an investment and it's supposed to work for you 24 7, and it
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:is supposed to do the heavy lifting.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:The goal is for people to go to your site and go from coal to sold.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But if you don't have these foundational pieces, if you're confused about.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:The user experience or if you don't have copy that makes sense.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Or if your branding is saying one thing and your vibe and you yourself
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:is saying another, or if your branding is saying one thing and your copy is
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:saying another thing and your website is looking a different way, and none of
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:that stuff is talking, nobody's going to.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Know who you are and you're not gonna be able to show up in that corporate
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:space because you done confused somebody and you done catfished them
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:out here in these internet streets.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:We're not doing that anymore, y'all.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It's 2023.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If you are choosing to move to WordPress, you have to have a.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:and I need you to have a plan so you're not dealing with the anxiety.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I know it's stressful.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:My first website was a Adobe Spark page and I was calling myself a brand designer.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I think that's what I was calling myself.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I changed my name like 10,000 times.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So it is, if you pivoting, it's okay.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:, but it was on Adobe Spark page and I remember.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It was bright and in my head it aligned with who I thought I was.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And then I had someone tell me that people don't like buying from like bright
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:websites or light in areas what sells.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And this was for someone that.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:They're still doing well in business, but we are in two
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:completely different playing fields.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:They're in the wedding industry, and I'm not in the wedding industry, so
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:light and area, I guess it does so, but for me, that's not what I needed.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But I changed because I thought.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:That's what was needed.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And mind you, my Adobe Spark page, it did not have a domain . It
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:didn't, it had nothing custom.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It was a free little page that I slapped on my Instagram was
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:like, I'm doing business now.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And that's okay in the beginning, but now that you're playing ball
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:with the big leagues, I'm gonna need you to put your big girl panties on.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Fix your website, get the foundation done, find you that branded person
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:that understands what your brand needs, that understands how to build your
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:strategy and how to create visuals that definitely represents who you are in
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:your business and what your goals are.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Find you that copywriter that understands how to speak your language.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Yo, my copywriter is popping.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I didn't write my copy, but you would think I, I did just
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:based on how it was written.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But find somebody that captures your brand voice.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And then lastly, find that web designer, that web agency that's
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:gonna take those key pieces and put 'em together and build you a site
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:that's bold, beautiful, and authentic as you are because you deserve it.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:you don't deserve to be selling from a Google document because the
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:work that you're doing as a D E I professional is too important.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It's bigger than a Google document.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It's bigger than any little document that you can put up or some little, lead
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:magnet that you just put up on a page and you don't necessarily have a web home.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And I'ma say it, I must go a little further and I love Canva.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Canva is bay, but it is bigger than that little Canva website
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:you just put together on Canva.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You deserve better and you deserve not to be stressed out about it.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Okay.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Now I hope y'all enjoyed episode three.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I will be back with episode four and I can't wait to talk to you guys more.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Y'all season two is hot of more than a brand podcast and I hope
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:you're enjoying it as much as I am.
