Do you know what a private podcast is? Maybe you've heard about it, but you don't really know how to use one for your business. Maybe you've subscribed to one before and you know what it is. But what I wanna go over today is 4 ways that you can use a private podcast for your business to help you provide information to anyone out there who needs to hear it. So let's get started. I think one of my favorite things about podcasting is that you can podcast from anywhere and look however you want, and no one knows unless you tell them like I'm about to. I'm still at my parents' house, and I'm actually in my old bedroom sitting on my bed, and I just loved it. It doesn't matter. I don't have to worry about what I look like.

Allison Nitsch [:

I don't have to fix the scenery. I can just talk into my mic that I brought with me and still provide you information. So here we are. If I haven't sold you on a podcast yet, I'm gonna keep working on it. But today's episode is all about a private podcast. I wanna provide different ways that you can use a private podcast, what exactly it is, and how you can use it for your business. So if you're not familiar with a private podcast, basically a private podcast is similar to what you're listening to now, Only it's on a private stream, meaning that the person listening to it had to get access to it in some way. And there are various ways that they can do that.

Allison Nitsch [:

But essentially you have to provide a link, whether it's a paid link or it's a free option, that's up to you and we'll get into that in a minute. But they only can have access to that private podcast if you've given them access to it. So that's kind of what that pie private podcast is. It's private. It's only for those that you've allowed to listen to it, basically. So I wanna go over 4 different ways that you can use a private podcast, and I'm sure there are many other ways. I kinda clumped some of these together, but you can kind of pick and choose how you wanna use it, or you can use it for everything. I know people who have a private podcast for so many different things.

Allison Nitsch [:

They're just amazing. The first one I wanna talk about, and I've done this before, I actually have pulled mine down for now because I need to just completely redo it. And I'm not currently doing an email list. I know so many business owners are like, that is like the end all be all is you have to have an email list. I don't right now. And I think the reason I don't is because well, for 1, I'm not a one to many service provider. I am a one to 1. I have clients and I specifically work on their shows, and I can only have so many of those.

Allison Nitsch [:

Eventually, yes, I will get back to my email list because I know it is like all the rave. But that wasn't my focus right now, so I did take it down. But it is an amazing way to use a private podcast, is a lead magnet to grow your email list. Think about all of the different little freebies that you've probably opted into. Maybe they are a PDF. Maybe it's a little checklist, a guide, whatever it might be. How cool would it be to speak all of that information, provide them with getting to know you a little bit better than just reading a PDF, and use it as a lead magnet? For example, I had one on the different ways our sick I forget, actually. It was like 6 mini little episodes, less than 10 minutes over launching a podcast.

Allison Nitsch [:

And you could actually just do 1 or 2 episodes on, I don't know, whatever it is you teach. I actually had a friend who came to me to have a private podcast set up, and she's a copywriter, and she used it on how to write a welcome sequence for your email list. So there's various ways that you could do it, but just having that audio allows so much more information to get through. And not that I'm saying you have to give everything away for free, but it has them opt into your email list and they get that on the go. They don't just have another PDF that they may never look at. They have this private podcast and you can add to it if you want to, or it is simply just 1, 2, I don't really recommend more than 6 short episodes because then either you just need to have a regular podcast or that's a little bit too much for a lead magnet. So really it's just enough to give them something in an audio version that you would for free as a lead magnet. So that's my top one.

Allison Nitsch [:

The next one is you could, this could go both ways. You could use a private podcast for a membership, and I also included internal team training. So this can kind of go at 1 in the same. So if you have a membership and I actually have a client that I do this for, If you have a membership, you could provide trainings to them once a month, twice a month, however often you wanna do it, and it's specifically for your memberships. Some people get on a weekly Zoom call, some people get on a monthly Zoom call, and that is amazing. But what if you just had a quick training that you could provide your members and they could just get through their podcast app? It works better for you. You're not tied to your computer. You can just record it, upload it as you need to, and then they have the training whenever you have scheduled it out.

Allison Nitsch [:

It works amazingly. And I also included, like, internal team training. So if you have a team and you want to train your team members on something This is mostly if it doesn't need a visual. Now if you have something where you're trying to explain a software or whatever, yeah, that might need to be a Zoom call or a video training because they have to see all that stuff. But if it is truly just providing information, do it in an audio format. That way they can listen while they're doing things and it doesn't disrupt their time having to sit in front of their computer. So I think that works great for both of those. A third way is your course content or even a webinar.

Allison Nitsch [:

I've actually joined courses where, of course, you have the video component, but they also had a podcast version. And I have listened to the audio version to just kinda soak in all the all the knowledge, all the information. And then if I feel like I need to go see what they were talking about, I can go back to that video and look at it. So if you have a course that you've already created and you just want that audio component to go with it, I think a private podcast is amazing for that. Or if you have a webinar, and I know webinars are usually visual. You're trying to talk to the people, showing your slides and stuff like that, but some people may just need that audio version to listen to later, and you have that component to go with it. A 4th way to use private podcasts, and I've actually joined these, several times, are audio summits. So many people have summits and you go to the and they're all different.

Allison Nitsch [:

You could go to different sessions, there are different days, there are prerecorded, they're live, they're all different versions. However, there are audio summits where you can have different speakers record a separate episode. So however many speakers you have, they each record their own little podcast episode, and that's an audio training right there, and you put it all together and you bundle it up as a summit. Now these could be free. They could be paid. That is up to you. Again, they can't get it until you have provided them the link. So if it's a free thing, they just sign up for it.

Allison Nitsch [:

You send them the link. If it's paid, they, of course, go through your payment process and then they get the link. So that is up to you and how you want to do that. I know people who do both. It's really just depends on what you're trying to get out of it. If you're just trying to grow your email list, you probably want it to be free. Actually, you most likely want it to be free. And if you are wanting it to be something that you want as a paid content or paid product or whatever it might be, then of course you could certainly do that as well.

Allison Nitsch [:

And then a 5th way, kind of a little bonus thing you could do, and I have not done this yet, but I might in the future, but I've thought about it several times. And I thought, you know what? I'm gonna add this in as a little bonus one. And that is to use a private podcast as an onboarding system. You could do this for team members. I said earlier, you could do it for team trainings, but you could do it as an onboarding. And a lot of people send, you know, their SOPs over, and they might have a video component to it to show their, new team member how to do things. But what if you sent it as an audio version? If you're just telling them, this is how we do things, this is the way, you know, whatever could be in an audio format, I think a private podcast would be perfect for that. And then you could obviously add the trainings to that later on.

Allison Nitsch [:

It's up to you. Or put the trainings in a different private podcast feed. So many options. And another thing is you could do that I've kind of thought of is onboarding for your clients. So if you have coaching clients, you made it I mean, it could be more of a training one, but you could onboard them using a private podcast. Maybe one episode is on your terms and how you do things. Maybe another thing is your, I don't know, scheduling system or what they can expect moving forward or all of the things that you might send over in a written format. Put your personality behind it, say it in a podcast episode and send it to them on a private feed.

Allison Nitsch [:

All of these options are amazing. I mean, again, I'm sure there's another 20 different ways to use this. These are the most common ways, the things I've heard of, the private podcasts that I've joined. So let me kind of recap what they are. I said 4 ways, but again, I threw in that little 5th extra. So the biggest one is as a lead magnet, grow your email list. The second is either a membership or internal team trainings. The third one is for your course content, or you can have an audio version of your webinar.

Allison Nitsch [:

And then the 4th one is audio summits. And then I threw in that 5th one as you could use it as an onboarding system for either your team members or clients, depending on how your business works and whether it would even work for you. Again, private podcasts are so amazing and just, we have, there's so many auditory learners out there. They're on the go. We are busy. Any way you can just allow someone to pop in an earbud, listen in the car. Again, it's just an extra way to get your knowledge and your information out to those people. As far as how you do private podcasts, there are several ways you can do a private podcast.

Allison Nitsch [:

There are different platforms. I'm still looking into others. The big one that I've used most is Hello Audio. It started out as pretty much only private podcast. It's basically a host for a private podcast. They do now allow a public feed. I'm not really I haven't tried that one very much. I think it's still a little too new, but as a private option, that's great.

Allison Nitsch [:

If you already have a podcast and you host in Captivate, Captivate allows you, depending on your plan, at least one free private podcast. If you have a higher plan, they allow more, but they do allow a free one, and that is works great. You can use it with, Zapier to help push the people out as soon as they sign up for it. It'll send them the link to it. And, I mean, it's just otherwise, it's just like a public podcast that only certain people can listen to. That's just pretty much the easiest way to say it, and I think it honestly works for any business, and it provides a great option. So if you've ever considered a private podcast, if you've wondered more about it, I hope this episode gave you some things to think about. I do have a private podcast setup package.
