Shownotes

Today’s episode emphasizes the critical distinction between being controlled by our sinful nature and living under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Dr. David Spoon explores Romans 8, highlighting how our sinful nature is inherently hostile to God and can never please Him. He encourages listeners to recognize that, as Christians, they are empowered by the Holy Spirit to overcome this old nature and live transformed lives. Through personal anecdotes and theological insights, Spoon illustrates the importance of drawing closer to God daily and being ready to serve. The episode also features engaging trivia and reflections on the significance of Thanksgiving, reminding us to express gratitude in our lives and communities.

Takeaways:

  • Understanding that our sinful nature is inherently hostile towards God is crucial for spiritual growth.
  • The Holy Spirit living within us empowers us to overcome our sinful nature and please God.
  • David Spoon emphasizes that we must not allow our sinful nature to control our lives.
  • It is vital to cultivate a relationship with God through daily prayer and scripture reading.
  • The concept of being a Christian in name only highlights the importance of genuine faith.
  • Jabez's prayer for blessing and protection shows the power of sincere requests to God.

The discussion pivots around the duality of human nature, exploring the struggle between the sinful nature and the spirit of God that resides within believers. David Spoon articulates how the sinful nature is always at odds with God, as expressed in Romans 8. He delves into the implications of allowing this nature to dictate one's life, noting that it can lead to a disconnect from God and a life unpleasing to Him. This struggle is contrasted with the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit, which enables individuals to resist sin and live in accordance with God's will. Spoon’s personal anecdotes about wrestling with his own sinful tendencies serve to illustrate a relatable and authentic perspective on faith.

Furthermore, Spoon encourages listeners to actively engage in their spiritual growth by nurturing their relationship with God. He provides practical advice on how to cultivate this connection, emphasizing the necessity of prayer and reflection. The podcast includes moments of light-heartedness through humor and trivia, balancing serious theological discourse with accessibility. By inviting listeners to share their own stories and prayer requests, Spoon fosters a community of encouragement and support, emphasizing that spiritual growth is a shared journey. The episode concludes with a powerful reminder that through faith and reliance on the Holy Spirit, believers can live victoriously over their sinful natures and experience the fullness of life that God intends for them.

Transcripts

David Spoon:

And now for something completely different.

David Spoon:

Here's what's coming up this hour on Today's Experience.

David Spoon:

It's totally terrific, totally transforming a and totally triumphant Tuesday as we find unity from the Father, through the Son and by the Holy Spirit, all for the glory of God Almighty.

David Spoon:

First, we pick it back up in Romans 8, 7, where Paul makes it absolutely clear that our sinful nature is always hostile to God.

David Spoon:

That's an important key for us to understand when we're feeling hostility towards the Lord because we don't like what we're seeing.

David Spoon:

When that part of us gets fed up and kind of want to act like Job, demanding a confrontation with God because we don't like how he's doing his job, that indicates the sinful nature at work.

David Spoon:

Wow.

David Spoon:

Next on this show, we often talk about what pleases God, knowing that without faith, it's impossible to please him.

David Spoon:

According to Hebrews 11:6, I even wrote a book based on pleasing the Lord called the Faith that Pleases God.

David Spoon:

Yes, you should try that book.

David Spoon:

It's worth it.

David Spoon:

And if you can't pay for it, we'll buy it for you.

David Spoon:

In the next verse we look at, we're going to find out there's something that never pleases God.

David Spoon:

Well, what's that, Dave?

David Spoon:

Allowing our sinful nature to take control.

David Spoon:

Finally, there's a couple of important points to consider in this process, not the least of which is that we, uh.

David Spoon:

Oh, we who?

David Spoon:

You, who, me who?

David Spoon:

We are the ones who allow our sinful nature to take control.

David Spoon:

It has no actual authority in our lives.

David Spoon:

It's like sin, a trespasser, but if we don't remove it, it builds a little house in our existence, squats in our lives and creates tons of problems.

David Spoon:

So here's a brilliant idea.

David Spoon:

Let's stop that.

David Spoon:

David Spoon's life has been an experience.

David Spoon:

While growing up in a Jewish family, he made a wrong turn towards drug abuse.

David Spoon:

Then David Spoon found Jesus Christ and his life completely changed.

David Spoon:

The more he studied the gospel, the more he wanted to share his experiences with others.

David Spoon:

After 35 years of ministry, David discovered a new path of service.

David Spoon:

He joined Kam and this radio program began.

David Spoon:

You're about to hear the David Spoon Experience.

David Spoon:

Welcome to the David Spoon Experience.

David Spoon:

Local, national and heavenly talk.

David Spoon:

Here's what else we're looking at during the show.

David Spoon:

Lessons for surviving, living and prevailing politics, entertainment and current events, personal revelations, spiritual observations, my life's insanities, and oy vey, so much more.

David Spoon:

Now remember, it's not professional radio, okay?

David Spoon:

We heard from The Inspector General yesterday.

David Spoon:

You already know it's not professional radio.

David Spoon:

You're lucky if it's a can with strings.

David Spoon:

That's all I'm going to say.

David Spoon:

But we are asking you, what do you think?

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

And when you call that number.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Nemer, you'll end up talking to J.

David Spoon:

Talking to Jem and Jacob is like sharing a cheat meal on your diet with your favorite person.

David Spoon:

Thank you, David.

David Spoon:

Happy Tuesday.

David Spoon:

Happy Tuesday to you, my friend.

David Spoon:

You know what I realized?

David Spoon:

I realized that tomorrow will be the last day that we're doing a show in November.

David Spoon:

So you're gonna have to come up with new music.

David Spoon:

Yes, I have an intro in mind and I'll get it ready for the Monday show.

David Spoon:

I just started December.

David Spoon:

I completely spaced that.

David Spoon:

And then I just realized that listening to your music.

David Spoon:

Very good.

David Spoon:

Monday will be the second, right?

David Spoon:

The second will be the right.

David Spoon:

So when we come back, it'll be the 2nd of December.

David Spoon:

That is correctamundo.

David Spoon:

And then you get into the other holidays, and we're having the kids all over for the holidays, so I'm going to Aruba.

David Spoon:

No, I'm kidding.

David Spoon:

Anyway, it'll be like the home alone house, right?

David Spoon:

Just kids running around everywhere.

David Spoon:

I'm going to get lost on the airplane.

David Spoon:

I don't know how I got here.

David Spoon:

Anyhow, we'll see how that goes.

David Spoon:

We'll do Jake's take tomorrow.

David Spoon:

So we've already covered on that.

David Spoon:

So people know what's going on.

David Spoon:

I do want you to be aware, though, that there is a reason to contact us.

David Spoon:

And I know some people get afraid.

David Spoon:

It's not that bizarre.

David Spoon:

I mean, it's understandable.

David Spoon:

It's weird if you don't do it all the time.

David Spoon:

That's the thing.

David Spoon:

It's like, it takes a little bit.

David Spoon:

Even Jacob, who's running the board in the beginning kind of was a little soft.

David Spoon:

Now he's like, he can say anything he wants.

David Spoon:

It's like it becomes different.

David Spoon:

Well, we understand that, but we still want to hear from you.

David Spoon:

That's why we give you different ways to communicate so you can email us during the show.

David Spoon:

My email is up right in front of me right now.

David Spoon:

I'm looking right at it.

David Spoon:

And then I can hit the little refresh button.

David Spoon:

Refresh.

David Spoon:

And then it refreshes, see?

David Spoon:

And then I'm looking right at it and I can see what's taking place.

David Spoon:

If you email, great.

David Spoon:

If you text, very same thing on the text.

David Spoon:

I see them right away now.

David Spoon:

All of them, instant.

David Spoon:

It's great.

David Spoon:

Fantastic.

David Spoon:

The phone is the phone.

David Spoon:

We think you understand that.

David Spoon:

But why do it?

David Spoon:

Because the Lord has blessed you.

David Spoon:

You know what?

David Spoon:

That's why.

David Spoon:

In fact, that should just be good enough.

David Spoon:

I shouldn't really have to say anything else because the Bible says, let the redeemed of the Lord say so.

David Spoon:

And he's put your feet on a rock and put a new song in your heart.

David Spoon:

Share it.

David Spoon:

That's why he did it.

David Spoon:

He doesn't do things so you can keep them just to yourself.

David Spoon:

It's for others.

David Spoon:

David realized he became the king of Israel for the sake of Israel, not because he was so swell, but because God loved Israel.

David Spoon:

That's how we got to think of things.

David Spoon:

So if you got something you want to share, a praise report.

David Spoon:

Awesome.

David Spoon:

If you've got prayer requests, bring it.

David Spoon:

Let's pray.

David Spoon:

Because we believe prayer does change the universe.

David Spoon:

And we believe that people that mock that will have to answer for that.

David Spoon:

We're not happy about that.

David Spoon:

But we're not going to stop doing what the Lord told us to do.

David Spoon:

That ain't going to happen.

David Spoon:

Maybe it's a scripture.

David Spoon:

Maybe there's something that's on your heart and mind you just want to share.

David Spoon:

Maybe something to do with Thanksgiving.

David Spoon:

Something you just want to be thankful for.

David Spoon:

Awesome.

David Spoon:

Share.

David Spoon:

It is great.

David Spoon:

We love it.

David Spoon:

We're not against politics.

David Spoon:

We're just for everybody getting closer to the Lord.

David Spoon:

Just understand that difference.

David Spoon:

And we also do trivia like this one.

David Spoon:

Acts chapter 5:1 11.

David Spoon:

Everybody should get this.

David Spoon:

Who lied to the Holy Spirit and an apostle and died with her husband.

David Spoon:

So I'm looking for the wife who lied to the Holy Spirit and an apostle and died with her husband.

David Spoon:

Not the exact same time, but died with her husband.

David Spoon:

Acts 5:1 11.

David Spoon:

Acts 5:1 11.

David Spoon:

Who lied to the Holy Spirit and an apostle and died with her husband.

David Spoon:

If you think you know the answer.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Acts 5:1 11 in the meantime, I'm going to offer up a prayer for the entire audience.

David Spoon:

And guess what?

David Spoon:

It's for Thanksgiving.

David Spoon:

You're thinking why?

David Spoon:

Because you would be amazed how many emails and texts I get at Thanksgiving for people that are having family meltdowns.

David Spoon:

So we are going to pray that the Lord will help everybody in our audience this year.

David Spoon:

Everybody being a little bit more on target or aware that the Lord is involved.

David Spoon:

Okay, so let's do it.

David Spoon:

Let's pray.

David Spoon:

Father, we come before you right now and we thank you Lord.

David Spoon:

Father, who art thou in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

David Spoon:

We give thanks, we give praise, we give honor, we give glory to you.

David Spoon:

And there is so much that we have to be thankful for.

David Spoon:

We're going to talk about that tomorrow.

David Spoon:

Lord, so powerful, so gracious you are to us.

David Spoon:

But that's not what I'm praying about right now.

David Spoon:

What we're praying about, Lord, is all of us having a self control button operating in a better capacity for Thanksgiving that we wouldn't be on the prowl against family.

David Spoon:

We wouldn't be so needing to prove ourselves right as much as gracious in you.

David Spoon:

We'll have some family members that don't like everything we stand for and don't like everything we believe in, but we're not going to change them.

David Spoon:

But in this process of challenge, help us to be reflected collective of our Lord and Savior Jesus and help us to recognize spirit of peace.

David Spoon:

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they should be called the sons of God.

David Spoon:

Give us that wisdom from on high.

David Spoon:

And Lord, we are so thankful for you and thankful for everything you're doing in our lives.

David Spoon:

We lift this up in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

David Spoon:

Amen and amen.

David Spoon:

Okey dokey artichoke.

David Spoon:

All right, you're.

David Spoon:

I'm praying for you guys.

David Spoon:

I'm going to be praying for you for the entire day too.

David Spoon:

Who lied to the Holy Spirit and an apostle and died the same day her husband did.

David Spoon:

Acts, chapter 5, verse 1 through 11.

David Spoon:

Somebody is on the line to answer the trivia question.

David Spoon:

Right?

David Spoon:

Praise report.

David Spoon:

Praise report.

David Spoon:

Well, let's bring them on through.

David Spoon:

Knock knock.

David Spoon:

This is David.

David Spoon:

Who am I talking to?

David Spoon:

Hey David.

David Spoon:

Hi.

David Spoon:

This is Eric.

David Spoon:

Hey Eric, how are you brother?

David Spoon:

How are you doing?

David Spoon:

Bad spot here.

David Spoon:

I.

David Spoon:

Oh boy.

David Spoon:

I think I'm.

David Spoon:

Let me move over a little bit here.

David Spoon:

Can you hear me?

David Spoon:

Yeah, I can hear you.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

The answer to the trivia.

David Spoon:

Yeah, you're cutting out right there.

David Spoon:

You're cutting out right there, brother.

David Spoon:

He's somewhere there.

David Spoon:

Wait, wait, Eric, now you're cutting out.

David Spoon:

Now you're cutting out.

David Spoon:

Okay, I'm messing up your ring.

David Spoon:

Don't worry about it.

David Spoon:

Do you know the answer to trivia?

David Spoon:

Sure.

David Spoon:

What is it?

David Spoon:

Safaree.

David Spoon:

That is correct.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

And you got a praise report.

David Spoon:

You want to try and squeeze it out?

David Spoon:

You can do it.

David Spoon:

Let me.

David Spoon:

Let me try it.

David Spoon:

And if it.

David Spoon:

If it breaks up, then.

David Spoon:

Then we'll go on from there.

David Spoon:

Okay, the floor is yours.

David Spoon:

Fire away.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

Yesterday when Fred called in to the radio show to answer the trivia, you were.

David Spoon:

You're.

David Spoon:

You're teaching on the old.

David Spoon:

Eric, it's breaking up.

David Spoon:

Do this for me, okay?

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

Do this.

David Spoon:

Either call back or text.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

All right, brother.

David Spoon:

Love you.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

Don't you love technology?

David Spoon:

I do.

David Spoon:

I love technology.

David Spoon:

You can't live with it and you can't live without it or something.

David Spoon:

I don't know.

David Spoon:

All right, folks, so Eric, he's got a testimony I'm looking forward to hearing from it.

David Spoon:

We'll back from him.

David Spoon:

We'll get to that.

David Spoon:

All right, now, he did answer the trivia question correctly, so that's good, right?

David Spoon:

Great job, Eric.

David Spoon:

And don't worry about tech problems.

David Spoon:

We have them here at the studio almost every week.

David Spoon:

It's part of the fun.

David Spoon:

In the meantime, we're going to do our DNA.

David Spoon:

And so here's our DNA.

David Spoon:

Ready?

David Spoon:

D stands for Draw closer to the Lord daily.

David Spoon:

Okay?

David Spoon:

So if you do me a favor and do a deep dive into the origin of the word daily, you're going to find out it means every day.

David Spoon:

And what's amazing about that is it applies.

David Spoon:

And it's funny because Jesus, in his teaching us to pray, said when you were praying say, our Father, art thou in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

David Spoon:

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

David Spoon:

Give us this day our daily bread.

David Spoon:

Jesus made it very clear we should be praying daily.

David Spoon:

No question.

David Spoon:

So when you're spending time in prayer, don't do it as a chore, right?

David Spoon:

Think of your prayer time as this incredible intimate connection from the depth of your heart to the depth of God's heart.

David Spoon:

That's what's going on when you're praying.

David Spoon:

And think of that when you read his word, just ask him, Lord, I don't want to read to read.

David Spoon:

Just speak to me so that I can hear your voice.

David Spoon:

Word of God, speak to me.

David Spoon:

I mean that's really what you want.

David Spoon:

And what you want to do is be able to hear the Lord and share with the Lord and strengthen your relationship with the Lord.

David Spoon:

That by the way, is the key component.

David Spoon:

When Jesus said depart from me, I never knew you.

David Spoon:

He was talking about people that did things in his name, that never knew who he was.

David Spoon:

Gotta hang out with the Lord.

David Spoon:

That's just so important.

David Spoon:

D Draw closer to the Lord daily.

David Spoon:

N Never be ashamed of Jesus or his words.

David Spoon:

Of course they're gonna try and make you ashamed.

David Spoon:

They're non spirit filled people.

David Spoon:

They don't like God unless God's in the image they've created.

David Spoon:

Of course they're gonna try and shame so silly, silly people.

David Spoon:

God created the universe.

David Spoon:

The dude can write a book.

David Spoon:

That's all you gotta remember.

David Spoon:

That's the key.

David Spoon:

So d Draw closer to the Lord daily and never be ashamed of Jesus or his words.

David Spoon:

A Always be ready to serve.

David Spoon:

Ready to serve.

David Spoon:

Okay, I'll just make it really quick.

David Spoon:

Are you ready?

David Spoon:

Is everybody listening?

David Spoon:

Are you ready?

David Spoon:

That's what I'm talking about.

David Spoon:

I'm going to talk to Sharon later on today at about 3:30.

David Spoon:

Are you ready?

David Spoon:

That's what I'm saying.

David Spoon:

Are you ready?

David Spoon:

Be ready.

David Spoon:

If somebody knocks on your door and it's an angel, you ready?

David Spoon:

You see what I'm saying?

David Spoon:

Wow.

David Spoon:

Let's be ready.

David Spoon:

Always be ready to serve the Lord to honor him.

David Spoon:

Jesus didn't come to be served, but to serve.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

Let's be like Jesus.

David Spoon:

Let's live to serve.

David Spoon:

Perfect.

David Spoon:

D Draw closer to the Lord daily and never be ashamed of Jesus or his words.

David Spoon:

A Always be ready to serve.

David Spoon:

We'll take a short break and then come back.

David Spoon:

You're listening to the David Spoon Experience right here on Kaam 770, the truth station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

Short break, we'll be back.

David Spoon:

Don't go anywhere.

David Spoon:

This is from our good friend Pastor Ray.

David Spoon:

He wrote this wonderful devotional called When Grace is Tangible.

David Spoon:

The word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.

David Spoon:

That's John 1:14.

David Spoon:

There is more to grace than I ever imagined.

David Spoon:

Now I'm going to stop you right there.

David Spoon:

So I was praying, this is in the last month and I even wrote it down in my little journal how I believe the Lord had communicated to me personally that I do not understand the depth of God's grace.

David Spoon:

So Then this devotion comes.

David Spoon:

I'm like, oh, I just know the Lord's trying to teach me more.

David Spoon:

All right, let me back it up to what Ray says.

David Spoon:

There is more to grace than I ever imagined.

David Spoon:

We sing of amazing grace with the hope and longing that inspires people of all faiths and walks of life.

David Spoon:

Theologically, grace is defined as unmerited favor, a good, sound concept.

David Spoon:

But there is something more tangible about grace, something we can picture in our minds.

David Spoon:

God once told Moses, I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

David Spoon:

Grace, as I discovered in the Hebrew language, is more than a favor granted in spite of our failings.

David Spoon:

When God says he will be gracious to whomever he chooses, he uses the word chanaan, which adds a new layer of our understanding.

David Spoon:

Because chanan means to show favor, mercy, to bend or to stoop in kindness, God is not only granting favor and mercy, but the word picture is of him bending down to us in kindness, like a father getting down on his knees to embrace his children.

David Spoon:

There's even more to this picture.

David Spoon:

The root of the word chanaan means to pitch a tent, to encamp, to abide, to dwell, to rest.

David Spoon:

There is more than God granting favor.

David Spoon:

He wants to dwell with us, to camp out with us.

David Spoon:

The God who is so very beyond us, not of this world, desires for his glory, to abide with us and in us.

David Spoon:

God will be gracious to whomever he chooses, and he will come and live with them and dwell with them and camp out with them, whomever he chooses.

David Spoon:

And when it makes no sense to anybody else, it doesn't matter.

David Spoon:

Even if it doesn't meet our standard of approval.

David Spoon:

The Almighty Lord desires to dwell with us, not just rule over us, certainly not to start a religion, but to love us and live with us in a tangible, real way, to show us the way, the truth and the life.

David Spoon:

The ultimate experience of God bending down.

David Spoon:

Listen to this.

David Spoon:

The ultimate experience of God bending down.

David Spoon:

Stoop.

David Spoon:

Stooping down to the ground to dwell amongst us is the incarnation of Jesus Christ.

David Spoon:

The David Spoon Experience.

David Spoon:

Welcome back to the David Spoon Experience.

David Spoon:

Do you like that crack in my voice?

David Spoon:

Thank you for joining us here at KAM 770, the Truth Station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

That's Kamin 770, the Truth Station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

We do have another trivia question.

David Spoon:

We got the teaching that we're going to do.

David Spoon:

If Eric gets a chance to call in once he's out of breath, he texted me.

David Spoon:

He goes, I'm in a better place now.

David Spoon:

I'm out of breath.

David Spoon:

We are so weird, aren't we?

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

Let's see.

David Spoon:

This is.

David Spoon:

You guys should actually.

David Spoon:

You should know this.

David Spoon:

So I am saying this, but I am not trying to guilt you.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

I'm not trying to guilt you, but this is, you know, a little harder than the last two.

David Spoon:

Who actually purchased Joseph from the Midianite traders?

David Spoon:

The people that were trading and sold him.

David Spoon:

Who did they?

David Spoon:

Who was it that actually purchased him?

David Spoon:

Genesis:

David Spoon:

Now, if that is Eric, we will give him.

David Spoon:

Normally, we don't let people do two calls, but in his case, he'll get a chance to do that.

David Spoon:

I'm just saying.

David Spoon:

Because we ran out of breath.

David Spoon:

We're so strange.

David Spoon:

Okay, so is that Eric?

David Spoon:

I'm just checking with you.

David Spoon:

No, it's not Eric.

David Spoon:

So, Eric, you can call in right after this.

David Spoon:

So the trivia question.

David Spoon:

Who brought Joseph from the Midianite traders?

David Spoon:

The people that sold him, who was it that actually made that purchase?

David Spoon:

Genesis:

David Spoon:

And so the reason I'm telling you that is because if you're looking it up, you have to speed it up because somebody is on the phone again.

David Spoon:

Don't forget, we have a modified schedule.

David Spoon:

But I promise you.

David Spoon:

I promise you that the replays on Thursday and Friday are really good.

David Spoon:

Not that you have to listen.

David Spoon:

You're with family.

David Spoon:

It's Thanksgiving.

David Spoon:

I appreciate that.

David Spoon:

I understand that.

David Spoon:

And you never have to listen.

David Spoon:

That's up to.

David Spoon:

Between you and the Lord.

David Spoon:

But we want to still make it so that it's a blessing or an opportunity for you.

David Spoon:

Does that make sense?

David Spoon:

Good.

David Spoon:

I'm glad.

David Spoon:

So, all right.

David Spoon:

Who bought Joseph from the midianite traders?

David Spoon:

Genesis:

David Spoon:

Somebody's on the line.

David Spoon:

Let's send them on through.

David Spoon:

Knock, knock.

David Spoon:

This is David.

David Spoon:

Who am I talking to?

David Spoon:

Hi, Dr.

David Spoon:

Sponge.

David Spoon:

This is Fred.

David Spoon:

Hello, Fred.

David Spoon:

How are you, brother?

David Spoon:

I'm doing fine, sir.

David Spoon:

Awesome.

David Spoon:

Awesome, awesome.

David Spoon:

All right, let me set it up for you.

David Spoon:

Who actually purchased Joseph from the Midianites who were selling him?

David Spoon:

The traders that were selling him, who actually did the purchase?

David Spoon:

According to Genesis:

David Spoon:

He had a terrible, terrible wife.

David Spoon:

But I think he was a very good man.

David Spoon:

That would be part of her.

David Spoon:

That is correct, Emmanuel.

David Spoon:

You are right.

David Spoon:

And he did have a really, really.

David Spoon:

A really bad wife.

David Spoon:

I mean, that's just not cool.

David Spoon:

And.

David Spoon:

And so we don't know much about her.

David Spoon:

But one thing we know is shame will be with her forever.

David Spoon:

Forever and ever.

David Spoon:

That's really well put, brother.

David Spoon:

Really well put.

David Spoon:

God bless you.

David Spoon:

I'll hang up.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

God bless, brother.

David Spoon:

That's funny.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

So, yeah, that was.

David Spoon:

She was not good.

David Spoon:

That's right.

David Spoon:

All right, Eric, if you get a chance, you can call back in.

David Spoon:

You can do that anytime.

David Spoon:

In the meantime, I'm going to go forward because I want to get into this teaching.

David Spoon:

I want you to catch on this.

David Spoon:

This is pretty cool.

David Spoon:

So in Romans, chapter eight, and we're looking at.

David Spoon:

What am I looking at?

David Spoon:

We're looking at verse seven, it says this so that you can understand that for the sinful nature is always hostile to God.

David Spoon:

It never did obey God's laws and it never will.

David Spoon:

That's why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.

David Spoon:

So I'm going to show you something.

David Spoon:

So this is the new living translation.

David Spoon:

I understand it's not probably my.

David Spoon:

I really like the ESV.

David Spoon:

ike the new American Standard:

David Spoon:

It's kind of like my fave.

David Spoon:

But other than that, I also like the Berean Standard Bible, which I think is also awesome.

David Spoon:

But I love the phrasing in this because it's really important for you to catch this point.

David Spoon:

And he makes the distinction in verse 7 and 8 as to who he's talking to.

David Spoon:

He's actually.

David Spoon:

Most people are like, well, he's talking to Christians.

David Spoon:

Not really.

David Spoon:

So let me get there.

David Spoon:

Because in verse nine, he says, but.

David Spoon:

Which means on the other hand.

David Spoon:

But in verse seven, he says this.

David Spoon:

The sinful nature.

David Spoon:

We should not let the sinful nature.

David Spoon:

For the sinful nature is always hostile to God.

David Spoon:

You have to understand there's always a hostility between your sinful nature and God because it's the nature of rebellion.

David Spoon:

It never did obey God's laws and it never will.

David Spoon:

Okay, then this.

David Spoon:

This is why those who are still under the control their sinful nature can never please God.

David Spoon:

Well, what's he talking about there?

David Spoon:

People that aren't saved are under the control of their sinful nature.

David Spoon:

This is not saved people, because saved people have control.

David Spoon:

But people that can't control who are under the control of their sinful nature will never please God.

David Spoon:

These are the people that even make a profession of being Christian, but have not a clue that they have an old nature that is thwarting them.

David Spoon:

And they will never please God because they're.

David Spoon:

What do we call them?

David Spoon:

Sinos.

David Spoon:

That's right.

David Spoon:

I call them Sinos.

David Spoon:

You're thinking CNOs C I N o Christian in name only.

David Spoon:

Nothing really connected to God.

David Spoon:

That's a sino Christian and name only.

David Spoon:

And so the old nature which you and I struggle with, right, we know we have the struggle.

David Spoon:

We know the war is going on.

David Spoon:

Those that are still under the control of their sinful nature are not Christians.

David Spoon:

And they can never please God because that sinful nature that is in them drives their life.

David Spoon:

And God is not pleased.

David Spoon:

Do you get that?

David Spoon:

So Paul's making this huge, I mean, just enormous distinction.

David Spoon:

He's like, look, look, look.

David Spoon:

The sinful nature's hostile to God.

David Spoon:

It's the one that rebelled.

David Spoon:

It never did obey God's laws.

David Spoon:

It's never gonna.

David Spoon:

That's why those who are still under its control of their sinful nature can never please God.

David Spoon:

These are non believers who function in certain capacities and they think they're righteous because of things they say and act things that, like they do.

David Spoon:

Like Judas who, oh, we should give this money to the poor.

David Spoon:

But underneath he really just wanted to keep it for himself.

David Spoon:

Sneaky little guy.

David Spoon:

He was never in that right place.

David Spoon:

And that's what he's.

David Spoon:

That's what Paul's talking about.

David Spoon:

But then in verse nine, he says, but you.

David Spoon:

And I'm going to stop it right there on purpose.

David Spoon:

But you.

David Spoon:

Okay, so that's the non believers.

David Spoon:

They're never going to please God.

David Spoon:

They can't please God.

David Spoon:

They're functioning by their sinful nature.

David Spoon:

Yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck.

David Spoon:

But you.

David Spoon:

Yeah.

David Spoon:

Now we're going to find out something completely different when we come back.

David Spoon:

Huh?

David Spoon:

Get that.

David Spoon:

That's pretty cool.

David Spoon:

All right, we'll take a short break and then come back.

David Spoon:

You're listening to the David Spoon Experience right here on KAM 770, the true station in Texas.

David Spoon:

Shortbreak.

David Spoon:

We'll be back.

David Spoon:

David Spoon:

Oops, sorry.

David Spoon:

That's cow punch sites $57 a month and that's no B there.

David Spoon:

That's better.

David Spoon:

Cowpunchsites.com dad, who is David Spoon?

David Spoon:

I have no idea.

David Spoon:

People have asked me about the David Spoon experience.

David Spoon:

They wanted to know what I thought of him.

David Spoon:

Like any person searching for answers, I have wondered about him.

David Spoon:

He was born and raised Jewish and after intense drug use, became a Christian.

David Spoon:

He's married to his best friend Noel, has three children, six grandchildren, and a dog named Bert.

David Spoon:

He has three separate ordinations from three different denominations and is a summa cum laude for his BA Degree in ministry and leadership, as well as a master's degree of theological studies and has his doctorate of Strategic Christian Ministry.

David Spoon:

He has a weird sense of humor and talks a lot.

David Spoon:

If people are seeking wisdom and insight from the great teachers around the world, would they go to David?

David Spoon:

No, I don't think so.

David Spoon:

And those big ears really don't help him.

David Spoon:

But would they enjoy his perspective on life, culture, politics, food, sports, local and national news?

David Spoon:

I don't know.

David Spoon:

I guess people will have to listen to find out.

David Spoon:

Dr.

David Spoon:

Robert Jeffress on Hell I had a lady one time we did a Q and A session in our church.

David Spoon:

We call Ask the Pastor.

David Spoon:

Usually I know what they're going to ask, but this lady raised her hand and she said, pastor, if a woman is pregnant at the rapture, does that mean she will be pregnant throughout eternity?

David Spoon:

And I paused for a second and I said, yes, it's called hell.

David Spoon:

But, you know, there are some unanswered questions about all of this, but I do think we can know.

David Spoon:

We're going to know one another.

David Spoon:

The David Spoon Experience.

David Spoon:

Oh, welcome back to the David Spoon Experience.

David Spoon:

Thank you for joining us here at KAM 770, the Truth Station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

That's K double amen.

David Spoon:

770, the Truth Station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

All right, got another trivia question.

David Spoon:

Got a lot of stuff to do and I got to have a joke in here somewhere.

David Spoon:

And we got a little bit of history.

David Spoon:

Really actually quite a fascinating piece of history that I do want to do.

David Spoon:

In fact, you know what we'll do?

David Spoon:

We haven't done this before.

David Spoon:

I want to do history right now because I have this One piece.

David Spoon:

That's really good.

David Spoon:

So let's do this.

David Spoon:

Let's go live.

David Spoon:

Fake him past.

David Spoon:

Let's go.

David Spoon:

Let.

David Spoon:

Fake him the past.

David Spoon:

All right, so today is National Cake Day.

David Spoon:

I'm sorry.

David Spoon:

Yes, please.

David Spoon:

All day long.

David Spoon:

As much as I can consume, please.

David Spoon:

Right.

David Spoon:

I mean, how is that not phenomenal?

David Spoon:

Every day is cake day, right?

David Spoon:

Every day.

David Spoon:

Right.

David Spoon:

It's good grief day, which has to do with Charlie Brown.

David Spoon:

Good grief, Charlie Brown.

David Spoon:

That's pretty funny.

David Spoon:

Cool.

David Spoon:

This I thought was very cool.

David Spoon:

Okay, hockey wise,:

David Spoon:

ague is formed on this day in:

David Spoon:

That's cool.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

This I think is a fascinating.

David Spoon:

Now listen.

David Spoon:

Doesn't matter what they tell you.

David Spoon:

Doesn't matter what they say on television.

David Spoon:

Listen to me.

David Spoon:

Doesn't matter what the cable people say.

David Spoon:

It doesn't matter what the academics say.

David Spoon:

It doesn't matter what Hollywood says.

David Spoon:

th of November in:

David Spoon:

This is a fact and you can't change it.

David Spoon:

First National Thanksgiving Day.

David Spoon:

United States President George Washington declared today as a day of general thanksgiving for adoption of the Constitution.

David Spoon:

Do you hear what I said?

David Spoon:

And this was, by the way, the first actual national U.S.

David Spoon:

holiday.

David Spoon:

So for all those whiners that complain about Thanksgiving, go away.

David Spoon:

Try reading a book.

David Spoon:

It was the 26th, the actual first National Thanksgiving Day by George Washington declared a general Thanksgiving Day for the adaption of the Constitution.

David Spoon:

That's what the original.

David Spoon:

The original political position was.

David Spoon:

It doesn't mean they weren't thankful to God.

David Spoon:

Nobody's saying that they thanked God when they made the Constitution, but they're just simply saying, and it was the first national holiday.

David Spoon:

Okay, I just want to make sure everybody got that.

David Spoon:

And if you're not thankful to the Lord for this nation, you're not thinking very clearly.

David Spoon:

Because the Bible says, blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.

David Spoon:

Consequently the other is true.

David Spoon:

Blessed not is the nation whose not got the Lord as God is their Lord.

David Spoon:

So just think of it in those terms.

David Spoon:

Okay, now I did that.

David Spoon:

All right, Just want to get that through.

David Spoon:

Trivia question.

David Spoon:

Who refused to appear before her husband, the king, at his request and command?

David Spoon:

Who refused?

David Spoon:

I refuse.

David Spoon:

Your reference is actually Esther, chapter 1, verse 12.

David Spoon:

Who refused to appear before her husband, the king, at his request and his command, she goes, nope, not doing it.

David Spoon:

Okay, got that.

David Spoon:

Okay, cool.

David Spoon:

Just want to make sure you understand what the question is.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

Who refused to appear before her husband, the king, at his request and command?

David Spoon:

Esther, chapter one verse 12.

David Spoon:

ou think you know the answer,:

David Spoon:

You can also text:

David Spoon:

David Spoon:

David Spoon:

This one and then two tomorrow.

David Spoon:

We're asking you to give.

David Spoon:

If you've never given, please give if the Lord will allow you to do it.

David Spoon:

If he won't, don't always obey God first period.

David Spoon:

No matter what anybody says anywhere on planet earth, always obey God first period.

David Spoon:

If the Lord allows you to give, if you don't feel comfortable doing it, pray for us.

David Spoon:

That's all.

David Spoon:

We just got to take care of radio Rent tomorrow.

David Spoon:

David Spoon:

David Spoon:

He must increase.org confused by what's happening right now.

David Spoon:

He must increase.org hemustencrease.org youg can't have a pie without Cool Whip.

David Spoon:

Cool Whip.

David Spoon:

Cool Whip?

David Spoon:

Yeah.

David Spoon:

You mean Cool Whip?

David Spoon:

Yeah.

David Spoon:

Cool Whip.

David Spoon:

Cool Whip.

David Spoon:

Cool Whip.

David Spoon:

Cool Whip.

David Spoon:

Cool Whip.

David Spoon:

You're saying it weird.

David Spoon:

Why are you putting so much emphasis on the H?

David Spoon:

What are you talking about?

David Spoon:

I'm just saying it.

David Spoon:

Cool Whip.

David Spoon:

And we already have our Cool Whip.

David Spoon:

We already have ours.

David Spoon:

I'm just telling you, we already got ours.

David Spoon:

Cool Whip.

David Spoon:

Cool Whip.

David Spoon:

I actually have that as one of my ringtone notification tones, too.

David Spoon:

That's right, people.

David Spoon:

You guys listen to the show.

David Spoon:

I can't make this up.

David Spoon:

You guys listen to the show.

David Spoon:

I don't make.

David Spoon:

Listen to it.

David Spoon:

All right, here we go.

David Spoon:

Our trivia question.

David Spoon:

Do you have somebody ready for the trivia question?

David Spoon:

Let's send them on through.

David Spoon:

Knock knock.

David Spoon:

This is David.

David Spoon:

Who am I talking to?

David Spoon:

Hello, my name is Lavon.

David Spoon:

What's your name?

David Spoon:

Lavon.

David Spoon:

Hi, Lavon.

David Spoon:

Can you do me a favor and just turn your radio down a little?

David Spoon:

It's got a little echo.

David Spoon:

So if you got your radio on, just turn it down just a little bit.

David Spoon:

It's off now.

David Spoon:

Okay, perfect.

David Spoon:

All right, let me set you up with a question, and then we'll go from there.

David Spoon:

Here we go.

David Spoon:

Who refused to appear before her husband the king, at his command and request.

David Spoon:

Who was that?

David Spoon:

According to Esther?

David Spoon:

Chapter one, verse 12.

David Spoon:

I have to.

David Spoon:

I didn't look in the Bible, I didn't look it up, but I have to think that it's gotta be Esther herself.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

No.

David Spoon:

Who was the queen before?

David Spoon:

Before Esther.

David Spoon:

Do you remember before Esther, there was a queen, and this is Esther actually took her place.

David Spoon:

Remember?

David Spoon:

So it starts with a V.

David Spoon:

Hold on, I'll get you there.

David Spoon:

Relax.

David Spoon:

It starts with a V.

David Spoon:

And this is a woman who refused to respond to the king.

David Spoon:

And it sounds a lot like Bashti.

David Spoon:

Don't know.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

Don't know.

David Spoon:

That's okay.

David Spoon:

That's totally all right.

David Spoon:

Her name is Vashti.

David Spoon:

It was Queen vashti in Esther 112.

David Spoon:

And she was like, nope, I don't wanna go.

David Spoon:

Nope, not gonna do it.

David Spoon:

And then because of that, they were like, okay, we're gonna have to make a change here.

David Spoon:

Cause she's making you look dumb.

David Spoon:

And then that's gonna be bad.

David Spoon:

And that's how Esther became the queen.

David Spoon:

Because Vashti was kind of like a little arrogant on that.

David Spoon:

So that's the answer to that.

David Spoon:

But still, you're right there with us.

David Spoon:

And by the way, I so appreciate you calling.

David Spoon:

Is there anything we can pray for you about?

David Spoon:

Well, just pray that our country gets back to where it was before.

David Spoon:

I will.

David Spoon:

Why don't you pray with me?

David Spoon:

Stay on the phone with me and let me pray with us.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

Okay, let's do it.

David Spoon:

Father, we come before you right now and we actually pray.

David Spoon:

We plead with you to have mercy on our country and that you would empower the leaders to be influenced by your Holy Spirit.

David Spoon:

And stop leading by the flesh.

David Spoon:

Stop leading by the system of the world, and start leading under the influence that comes from heaven.

David Spoon:

We need a break.

David Spoon:

We need deliverance.

David Spoon:

We need grace.

David Spoon:

We need mercy.

David Spoon:

Please, Lord, pour it upon us.

David Spoon:

And let us find great seasons of refreshment and enjoyment.

David Spoon:

Because you are granting us favor, as we know that's the only way it's going to happen.

David Spoon:

So please grant us favor.

David Spoon:

We pray in Jesus name, Amen and amen.

David Spoon:

Amen.

David Spoon:

And I might add to that.

David Spoon:

Thank you for giving us a daily lesson.

David Spoon:

I've been listening to you now for about three or four months, and I really have learned a lot of stuff that I didn't know I thought.

David Spoon:

And more I listen to you, the more I appreciate what you're doing for us as a world and a country.

David Spoon:

Well, that's very kind of you, and I appreciate that.

David Spoon:

Very, very much.

David Spoon:

Very, very kind.

David Spoon:

Thank you.

David Spoon:

Call back, too.

David Spoon:

Don't hesitate.

David Spoon:

But I've been right on some of the questions you've asked before.

David Spoon:

Wait, me too.

David Spoon:

Me too.

David Spoon:

I've been wrong, too.

David Spoon:

Happy.

David Spoon:

Thanks.

David Spoon:

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your listeners.

David Spoon:

Yeah, well, that's a very, very sweet blessing and I appreciate you very much.

David Spoon:

Thank you.

David Spoon:

Bye bye.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

God bless.

David Spoon:

Bye bye.

David Spoon:

All right, let's get into the next text part.

David Spoon:

This is kind of fascinating.

David Spoon:

And about 45 minutes, four or five minutes we're going to do this.

David Spoon:

This is the next little section in Romans.

David Spoon:

So Paul is.

David Spoon:

You have to understand, if you kind of look at Romans, there's a couple ways to look at things.

David Spoon:

You can look at the helicopter view, and that's kind of like that overall.

David Spoon:

And you get to see the outlines and so on and so forth.

David Spoon:

Then you dive down a little deeper and you get to more of the specifics.

David Spoon:

And by the way, it's not one of those views is right or the other is right.

David Spoon:

They're all right.

David Spoon:

I mean, it's all correct.

David Spoon:

There's times where you take back and look at it more in a broad stroke.

David Spoon:

There's times where you examine it and look on it very specific.

David Spoon:

So in this case, we're kind of diving into the depth of it.

David Spoon:

And so we just found out from Paul in Romans 8, 7 and 8, he's like, look, those that are under the control of the sinful nature, they cannot please God.

David Spoon:

So I want to say something about that, because I don't think we.

David Spoon:

I want to say this carefully.

David Spoon:

I don't think we intentionally start off this way, but there's times when the Lord doesn't do things that maybe we think he should.

David Spoon:

And then we get that little thing in the back of our neck standing up, and we kind of feel like were a little bit like job going, hey, I want to talk to you about this, okay?

David Spoon:

So I just want to make sure you understand when you do that to the Lord, that's your sinful nature, okay?

David Spoon:

That's the old you.

David Spoon:

That's the one you.

David Spoon:

That you don't want to have this confrontation with God and have God show up in a whirlwind and go, where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?

David Spoon:

Which pretty much will solve the entire.

David Spoon:

Any other thing you ever say the rest of your existence, right?

David Spoon:

So we need to be aware of that.

David Spoon:

That it's like when you get weary or if you get.

David Spoon:

And I'm not saying that you should do it, but people do get weary and they get, you know, fed up and they like, they were like in this attitude with the Lord, it's like, that's dumb.

David Spoon:

And it's dumb because that's your old nature, and that's not going to please God.

David Spoon:

So these other people, though, they never please God because they are under the complete control of their sinful nature.

David Spoon:

But look at verse 9, says in Romans 8.

David Spoon:

But you are not controlled by your sinful nature.

David Spoon:

You are controlled by the Spirit.

David Spoon:

If you have the Spirit of God living in you, you know you have the spirit of God living in you.

David Spoon:

If you surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, if you yielded, turned, surrendered, he is your Savior, and He is your Lord.

David Spoon:

He saved you from sin, the penalty of sin, the power of sin, and eventually the presence of sin.

David Spoon:

He is your Lord, he is your master.

David Spoon:

When you said yes to Jesus and accepted him by faith that he might live inside of you, the Holy Spirit took up actual residency in you, which is why you are the temple of the Holy Spirit.

David Spoon:

And because you have the Holy Spirit in you, there is not any point in your life that you must yield to your sinful nature.

David Spoon:

Never.

David Spoon:

Now do we do it from time to time.

David Spoon:

Yes.

David Spoon:

That's why Paul's saying, don't do it.

David Spoon:

People are like, no, no, you never do that.

David Spoon:

Yes, you do.

David Spoon:

He's saying, don't do it.

David Spoon:

That's what he's actually saying, don't do this.

David Spoon:

Which means you can do it, which means we shouldn't do it because God doesn't want us to do it.

David Spoon:

You know what I'm saying?

David Spoon:

Don't do that.

David Spoon:

Okay, Got it.

David Spoon:

So he's saying, look, you're not controlled by your sinful nature.

David Spoon:

You're controlled by the Spirit.

David Spoon:

If you have the Spirit of God living in you.

David Spoon:

And remember, listen to what it says, that those who do not have the spirit of Christ living in them are not Christians at all.

David Spoon:

Okay?

David Spoon:

Do you get that?

David Spoon:

See how cool that is?

David Spoon:

You're a Christian, you name the name of Christ.

David Spoon:

I know some teachers are like Christians when they ever say the name Christian.

David Spoon:

In Antioch in Acts, it was negative.

David Spoon:

Well, that's great.

David Spoon:

Except 20 years later, when Peter wrote his Epistle, he said, you'll be lucky to be known by that name.

David Spoon:

You're blessed to be known as a Christian.

David Spoon:

So things change.

David Spoon:

It's kind of like my way of saying that.

David Spoon:

And so here it is in a nutshell.

David Spoon:

I'm saying, in a nutshell, the Spirit of God lives in you.

David Spoon:

You owe your sinful nature nothing.

David Spoon:

But sometimes people visit the old neighborhood and stick around too long.

David Spoon:

You don't have to.

David Spoon:

You're not required to.

David Spoon:

And when you do, it doesn't please God.

David Spoon:

He's not happy with it.

David Spoon:

But it doesn't own you.

David Spoon:

God owns you.

David Spoon:

Because he paid for you the blood of Jesus Christ.

David Spoon:

That was the cost he paid.

David Spoon:

What's fascinating, because he purchased you and you are his through the blood of Jesus.

David Spoon:

And the Holy Spirit lives inside you.

David Spoon:

And you owe your old self nada.

David Spoon:

And I ain't talking about a light chicken gravy.

David Spoon:

Nada.

David Spoon:

Get it?

David Spoon:

All right, take a short break, then come back.

David Spoon:

You're listening to the David Spoon Experience right here on KAM770.

David Spoon:

The truth.

David Spoon:

Stationary in Texas.

David Spoon:

Short break.

David Spoon:

We'll be back.

David Spoon:

Go anywhere.

David Spoon:

What is the David Spoon Experience?

David Spoon:

So what Jesus said, whoever is not against you is for you.

David Spoon:

That's what he's talking about.

David Spoon:

If they're a kingdom advancer, it's all good.

David Spoon:

Now watch this.

David Spoon:

In Luke:

David Spoon:

When a strong man, fully armed, guards his estate, his possessions are secure.

David Spoon:

But when one stronger than he attacks and overpowers, he takes from him all his weapons, the armor and the weapons of the foot soldier that he trusted in, and he divides up his plunder.

David Spoon:

Anyone who is not with me is against me.

David Spoon:

And anyone does not gather with me scatters.

David Spoon:

And you're thinking, but what about the others?

David Spoon:

Watch.

David Spoon:

Keeping it in context.

David Spoon:

This person is not for the kingdom of God.

David Spoon:

This person is neutral.

David Spoon:

Not a kingdom advancer, not a person that is trying to advance the kingdom of God.

David Spoon:

And when you are not a kingdom advancer, then you are supporting the other kingdoms.

David Spoon:

You are either in for, with, through and by the kingdom of God or all the other kingdoms.

David Spoon:

There is no neutral.

David Spoon:

There is no, well, I'm going to sit this one out.

David Spoon:

There is no sitting it out with God.

David Spoon:

You're either helping advance his kingdom or helping another kingdom advance one of the two.

David Spoon:

So the guy that was casting out evil spirits in the name of Jesus Christ, he's advancing the kingdom of God.

David Spoon:

But the person who's not for Jesus is trying to be neutral and do nothing.

David Spoon:

That person's not advancing the kingdom of God.

David Spoon:

And that person who's not advancing the kingdom of God is therefore against the kingdom of God.

David Spoon:

Because there is no neutral.

David Spoon:

And you're thinking, well, no, no, there's gotta be a neutral.

David Spoon:

Never heard the joke about the mug womp, huh?

David Spoon:

Never heard about the soldier that, you know, Confederate soldier and then the Union soldier had gray on the top and dark blue on the bottom.

David Spoon:

What'd they do, shoot at him from both sides?

David Spoon:

That's what they did.

David Spoon:

In other words, there is none of that.

David Spoon:

That doesn't exist.

David Spoon:

You're either with Jesus in the advancement of his kingdom or.

David Spoon:

Or you're not.

David Spoon:

And if you're not, then he considers that against.

David Spoon:

And you think, well, whoa, that is just rude.

David Spoon:

Tell it to Jesus.

David Spoon:

Tell him he's rude.

David Spoon:

Go ahead.

David Spoon:

Jesus said, seek first the kingdom of God, not hey, you know, in your life you got all these things going on, you got to take care of work, you got to do this, you got to this, you got to pay this bill and do this and raise your kids and somewhere in there, do me a favor and every once in a while kick it around and think about me and the kingdom.

David Spoon:

And that doesn't exist.

David Spoon:

That's not a reality check.

David Spoon:

The reality check is that you are either for the kingdom of God or opposed to the kingdom of God.

David Spoon:

And if you try to be neutral, you're opposed.

David Spoon:

The David Spoon Experience.

David Spoon:

Oh, welcome back to the David Spoon Experience.

David Spoon:

Thank you for joining us here at KAM 770, the Truth Station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

That's KAAM 770, the Truth Station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

Classic trivia question.

David Spoon:

We're going to move right into it.

David Spoon:

Who asked God?

David Spoon:

Actually, I think of Cordelia because she's one of the people that answered this first when I asked it before.

David Spoon:

Who asked God to bless him and enlarge his territory?

David Spoon:

1st Chronicles 4:10.

David Spoon:

Who asked God to bless him, Bless me and enlarge my territory, Be with me and keep me from pain.

David Spoon:

Who asked that?

David Spoon:

First Chronicles chapter 4, verse 10.

David Spoon:

If you think you know the answer, ready, you can call 972-44-507.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Additionally, you can send an email David must increase.org okay, I got three quick jokes that we're going to do.

David Spoon:

If you're going to call in, you got to call in soon.

David Spoon:

These are funny jokes.

David Spoon:

Do not get offended.

David Spoon:

If you are easily offended, you're not reading First Corinthians 13, 4:7 which says love is not easily offended.

David Spoon:

Boy, that really hurts the people in the woke realm, doesn't it?

David Spoon:

All right, anyway, here we go.

David Spoon:

This, I think, is rather funny, so just bear with me.

David Spoon:

There are jokes about family and kids and babies and teenagers, okay?

David Spoon:

That kind of stuff.

David Spoon:

It's got the big realm.

David Spoon:

Okay, here's the first one.

David Spoon:

A father confronts his son in the backyard.

David Spoon:

I heard you skipped school today and that you went to the beach with your friends.

David Spoon:

That's a lie.

David Spoon:

The boy shouts.

David Spoon:

And I've got the movie stubs to prove it.

David Spoon:

That's actually pretty funny.

David Spoon:

Here's the next one.

David Spoon:

A guy calls 911 in a panic.

David Spoon:

My wife is having a baby.

David Spoon:

Her contractions are only one minute apart.

David Spoon:

Calm down.

David Spoon:

The 911 operator said.

David Spoon:

Is this her first child?

David Spoon:

No, silly.

David Spoon:

The guy shouts.

David Spoon:

This is her husband.

David Spoon:

See?

David Spoon:

Because he called it.

David Spoon:

Ok, all right.

David Spoon:

I'm going to acknowledge right now, this is probably one of my favorites.

David Spoon:

It's not the best spirited joke, but it is funny.

David Spoon:

That's my way of saying, don't be offended, gentlemen talking to a friend.

David Spoon:

I always carry a picture of my wife and kids in the wallet.

David Spoon:

I do it to remind myself why there's no money in my wallet.

David Spoon:

You serious, Clark?

David Spoon:

Oh, that's just too funny.

David Spoon:

I'm sorry.

David Spoon:

I like that one.

David Spoon:

All right, who asked God to bless him, enlarge his territory, be with him, and keep him from pain?

David Spoon:

First Chronicles 4:10.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Because there are new people that listen to the show and they need to learn and get that chance too.

David Spoon:

All right, back to the text.

David Spoon:

If we don't hear from it, we'll close out and hopefully we won't get the pink ping pong ball headed in our direction.

David Spoon:

So we just talked about this and I want to make sure you get this because this is like the critical point in Romans right here.

David Spoon:

So he's just gone on and Paul's made it clear theologically, look, people that are under the control of their sinful nature, they can never please God.

David Spoon:

Then he says, but you, you're not like that.

David Spoon:

You're different.

David Spoon:

You're completely different.

David Spoon:

Since Christ lives in you, it's like, this is completely different.

David Spoon:

You have the spirit of living God in you.

David Spoon:

And remember that those who do not have the spirit of God living in them are not Christians at all.

David Spoon:

Verse 10.

David Spoon:

Since Christ lives within you.

David Spoon:

Verse 10.

David Spoon:

Since Christ lives within you.

David Spoon:

Sorry, let's just say it again.

David Spoon:

Since Christ lives within you, well, how does he live within us?

David Spoon:

Since Christ lives within you.

David Spoon:

Even though your body will die because of sin, your spirit is alive because you have been made right with God.

David Spoon:

The Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you.

David Spoon:

You have Jesus in your heart by faith, but the Holy Spirit actually lives in you.

David Spoon:

So you need to understand that the Lord's making it clear we have the Spirit of God living in us and we can be controlled by the Spirit of God.

David Spoon:

I understand that some churches start freaking out when you talk about the Holy Spirit.

David Spoon:

Well, that's too bad.

David Spoon:

That's all throughout the Bible.

David Spoon:

The reality is, if we're children of God, we walk with the Holy Spirit.

David Spoon:

In fact, it's Romans 8:14 that says, as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

David Spoon:

That's what it says.

David Spoon:

You can't undo that.

David Spoon:

So for people that feel weird about hearing the phrase Holy Spirit, get over it.

David Spoon:

Okay, this is the part of the gospel.

David Spoon:

The Holy Spirit is doing the ministry of Jesus Christ on earth while Jesus is at the right hand of the Father interceding for the saints.

David Spoon:

That's what's going on right now.

David Spoon:

Jesus ascended, then he'd go, yeah, time for a Bahamas vacation.

David Spoon:

Jesus ascended and sat at the right hand of the Father.

David Spoon:

He's interceding for the saints.

David Spoon:

And the Holy Spirit is fulfilling the ministry that Jesus started on the earth.

David Spoon:

That's why the scripture says that the Holy Spirit couldn't have been given until the ascension took place.

David Spoon:

Now that the ascension took place, in Acts Chapter one, the Holy Spirit gets poured out in Acts chapter two, fulfilling the ministry of Jesus Christ on earth.

David Spoon:

That's why this is important.

David Spoon:

And so when we're walking, we need to walk under the influence of the Holy Spirit.

David Spoon:

And you're sitting there thinking, well, how do you do that?

David Spoon:

I could just tell you the simplest way in the whole universe.

David Spoon:

Ready?

David Spoon:

Ready.

David Spoon:

Ready.

David Spoon:

Spend time with God.

David Spoon:

No, that is it.

David Spoon:

That's what you gotta do.

David Spoon:

You gotta draw Closer to James 4.

David Spoon:

8.

David Spoon:

Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.

David Spoon:

Do it.

David Spoon:

You don't think he left you down here for nothing, do you?

David Spoon:

I got nothing to do.

David Spoon:

I'll just keep them down there.

David Spoon:

That way they'll be quiet for a while.

David Spoon:

That's not how it works.

David Spoon:

So the Holy Spirit's doing the ministry, too.

David Spoon:

Jesus lives in your heart by faith.

David Spoon:

Therefore, the Holy Spirit fulfilling and continuing the ministry of Jesus Christ operates in you right now, which is why you're the temple of the Holy Spirit.

David Spoon:

And in lieu of that, this is all.

David Spoon:

And see, what we try to do is I think people have kind of maybe misunderstood the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are not separated in the capacity that they are, like, void of each other.

David Spoon:

It's like, that's absurd.

David Spoon:

You don't understand that at all.

David Spoon:

Again, the only illustration I like.

David Spoon:

Not that other illustrations aren't great, but the illustration I like.

David Spoon:

See what I'm saying?

David Spoon:

It's my preference.

David Spoon:

I think of myself as David.

David Spoon:

I have a brain, God the Father, I have a heart, God the Son, I have a body, God the Spirit.

David Spoon:

But I am known as David.

David Spoon:

Get that?

David Spoon:

That's my favorite one, because it makes it simple for somebody like me.

David Spoon:

So what I'm trying to communicate before we give you the answer to the trivia question is this is the whole premise of Paul's theological position.

David Spoon:

In Romans 8.

David Spoon:

You've been saved by Jesus Christ, and now you can walk in the freedom that he's promised you when you're walking in the Holy Spirit.

David Spoon:

There you go.

David Spoon:

And if you don't walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, you tend to visit the old neighborhood again.

David Spoon:

All right, who asked God to bless him and enlarge his territory, be with him and keep him from pain, according to 1 Chronicles 4:10?

David Spoon:

The answer is Jabez.

David Spoon:

Jabez prayed that prayer.

David Spoon:

And it's really funny, because after he prays that prayer, God said yes.

David Spoon:

Those are my favorite answers.

David Spoon:

Yes.

David Spoon:

Oh, okay, cool.

David Spoon:

All right, great.

David Spoon:

All right, folks, you have been listening to the David Spoon Experience right here on KAM 770, the truth station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

22 and a half hour break.

David Spoon:

Then we'll come back more in insanity with Spoonanity.

David Spoon:

Talk to you then.

David Spoon:

The views expressed in the preceding program were those of the speakers and not necessarily those of kam, DJRD Broadcasting or ID sponsors.
