Speaker:

Hey everybody.

2

:

Welcome back to another edition

of the Daily Bible Podcast.

3

:

What's up folks?

4

:

Happy Mother's Day.

5

:

To all the moms listening,

we are that's right.

6

:

So thankful for you.

7

:

Y'all play such an important role

in our lives, in the lives of the

8

:

kids, in our church, in the lives

of whatever children that you have.

9

:

We're grateful for you moms out there.

10

:

It's hard work.

11

:

I my wife will sometimes look at me

and be like I don't want your job.

12

:

And I look back at her and I'm like

I don't really want your job either.

13

:

That kinda works out nicely though.

14

:

It does.

15

:

God, it's like complimentary roles.

16

:

Yeah.

17

:

Yeah.

18

:

Interesting.

19

:

Yeah, no we're thankful for you

moms out there and we actually have

20

:

a gift for you today at church.

21

:

Yeah.

22

:

We want to honor you towards that end.

23

:

And we thought of today's sermon title.

24

:

As we thought about you restored God's

perfect plan for imperfect people.

25

:

Yes, pastor PJ named it with you in mind.

26

:

So we hope you come and hear

about how God can use, even you.

27

:

I think it'll be an encouraging

message despite the title.

28

:

Yeah.

29

:

Yeah, that is funny.

30

:

I didn't, I did not consider that.

31

:

Oh, sure.

32

:

That's okay.

33

:

It's okay.

34

:

Yeah, no I'm not trying to,

a little playful ribbing.

35

:

I don't want to anger all

the moms in the church.

36

:

That's not on my to-do

list, that's for sure.

37

:

Hey we had, speaking of Mother's

Day, it always falls this way,

38

:

but we had spring tea, our lady

spring tea yesterday on Saturday.

39

:

And your wife spoke, shared her testimony,

Shea Azuma spoke and gave her testimony.

40

:

Wow.

41

:

And my wife spoke on Fannie Crosby.

42

:

And her life story and how God's

grace was so instrumental in in

43

:

her life beyond the fact that she

was just a blind hymn writer, which

44

:

is most of what I knew about her.

45

:

But she was pretty powerful.

46

:

Any relation to Bing Crosby?

47

:

Nope.

48

:

I don't different people.

49

:

I can't say that for sure, but,

certainly a different time.

50

:

Yeah.

51

:

Okay.

52

:

Yeah, but I heard good things.

53

:

I heard that the testimonies

went really well.

54

:

I think our ladies showed up and

showed out and just always a good,

55

:

fun event for them to do that.

56

:

So well done ladies.

57

:

We're excited for y'all that you guys

have that time, and hopefully it continues

58

:

to bear fruit in the coming days.

59

:

Yep.

60

:

Speaking of coming days.

61

:

Hey, we've been saying, Hey man, you only

have, in fact I saw all of your emails.

62

:

They hit my inbox this week.

63

:

Saying you only have two hours.

64

:

Last I spammed people, man.

65

:

I was just un unashamed, ding.

66

:

67

:

That show with Jack Bauer.

68

:

Have you ever watch that?

69

:

I did.

70

:

I did watch that.

71

:

Yeah.

72

:

And so it's that I countdown clock.

73

:

Yeah.

74

:

That's going on there.

75

:

Good.

76

:

I was waiting for that.

77

:

But the good news is you actually

still have more time then.

78

:

I don't know if I'm gonna promote it.

79

:

We're gonna announce it tomorrow or today?

80

:

Today at church.

81

:

We're gonna announce it today at church.

82

:

And ask the men one more time.

83

:

Hey we'd love to have you there.

84

:

Yeah.

85

:

And when we would, we think this

is gonna be well worth your time.

86

:

But no more.

87

:

No more emails.

88

:

I'm just gonna leave it open and if people

wanna register, that would be super good.

89

:

Yeah, that'd be awesome.

90

:

And they can do that online@compasstx.org.

91

:

That's right.

92

:

Under ministries.

93

:

You can go to Men or right

there on the homepage.

94

:

No package could just search

it and I bet it'll come up.

95

:

Compass to Ntx.

96

:

Men's Retreat.

97

:

Just, or just men's retreat?

98

:

I'm gonna try right now.

99

:

You're gonna Real time

men's Google Men's Retreat.

100

:

Not Google.

101

:

I'm going to search Men's Retreat.

102

:

Oh, on our website?

103

:

Yeah, on our website.

104

:

And the first thing that pops up.

105

:

Is session two from Kelly

Atterbury, a message from the

106

:

series at Women's Retreat.

107

:

So don't do that.

108

:

Don't search men's retreat

on our don't go there.

109

:

One would wonder why it does not work.

110

:

That seems like a pretty obvious, if

I type in men's retreat, you would

111

:

think it would bring up, it would come

with men's retreat, a men's retreat.

112

:

Yeah.

113

:

Hey, Danny Mayer question.

114

:

Yeah, we were gonna have to contact

our web administrator here, right?

115

:

Who?

116

:

We don't know his name, but

his initials are Danny Mayer.

117

:

Yeah.

118

:

Yeah.

119

:

So if you guys ever have

any issues with our website.

120

:

No, we're thankful for Danny.

121

:

He does a good job aside from this

snafu there, but I don't, who knows?

122

:

Yeah.

123

:

I don't know.

124

:

Okay.

125

:

Kelly's not speaking at

this men's retreat, though.

126

:

Kelly Atterbury is a great speaker.

127

:

Gifted and certainly capable, but she

will not be speaking at our men's retreat.

128

:

Capable, not qualified.

129

:

Yeah.

130

:

Not qualified for this event.

131

:

This is for men and

ideally you have a men.

132

:

Teaching.

133

:

Exactly.

134

:

In our case, we have three men that are

teaching myself, yourself, and Mark.

135

:

So Mark Self, it's not Yeah.

136

:

Mark Self.

137

:

It's not even gonna be like, oh, I get

to hear the same guy over and over again.

138

:

It's just oh, you're gonna get variety.

139

:

Yeah.

140

:

Variety is a spice of life,

as some people say it is.

141

:

So it'd be great for you to sit

under the teaching of all three

142

:

of us, and I hear it's Trinity

to be diverse, so That's right.

143

:

We've got a Viking in Mark who's speaking.

144

:

You've got me.

145

:

I'm a German and you've got you.

146

:

I've got me.

147

:

Yeah.

148

:

Yeah.

149

:

It's funny 'cause when we talk

about diversity, we usually don't

150

:

mean diverse white people, right?

151

:

We mean diverse other people.

152

:

So I, I don't know a reverse

Oreo we got going on here.

153

:

I don't think I'd like that.

154

:

That wouldn't be good.

155

:

No, it's gonna be an awesome retreat.

156

:

The theme is integrity and we're

talking about just super important

157

:

topics and subjects that are

gonna hopefully be very readily.

158

:

Applicable to your life.

159

:

So we want you there pr if a guy's

out there and is Hey I think I

160

:

can only make it on Saturday.

161

:

Do we still want him there?

162

:

Yeah.

163

:

And it would be worth your time.

164

:

We're gonna have two sessions on

Friday, two sessions on Saturday,

165

:

so you can get there at the

beginning of the day on Saturday.

166

:

That'd still be a great use of your time.

167

:

Yeah, and I think well worth it just

because you'll get to be around the guys.

168

:

I think one of the most important parts

of a retreat is being with the men.

169

:

You get to develop friendships and to be

with people and to connect with them in

170

:

a different way than you otherwise would.

171

:

Yeah.

172

:

Yeah.

173

:

We're gonna have free time

activities on Saturday.

174

:

I think we're doing some

hiking, some soccer playing.

175

:

Yeah.

176

:

Lots of options.

177

:

Board game playing and assuming the

weather holds out and it looks like

178

:

it's gonna be better this year.

179

:

Last year we got rained in.

180

:

Yeah.

181

:

This year we actually might stand

a chance to have some nice weather.

182

:

I do see some rain clouds this Friday.

183

:

But we'll see.

184

:

Maybe that won't.

185

:

Materialize.

186

:

Maybe not.

187

:

Maybe not.

188

:

Yeah.

189

:

So then you still have time to sign

up all that to say as you're listening

190

:

to this on Sunday, you still got

time to sign up, please do that.

191

:

If you're planning on going, please

don't be like, ah, I'll just wait

192

:

and call on Wednesday and see if

I can shoehorn my way in there.

193

:

Yeah they want a count.

194

:

So that was the hard line for us

is that the camp wanted to count.

195

:

They always do, they want a head count

to provide for food and all the things.

196

:

And that's the only stricture

that we're working with.

197

:

So if you are interested, please

sign up and if you're not interested.

198

:

Come talk to us and we'll

still encourage you to sign up.

199

:

Yeah.

200

:

We wanna convince you how good

this is gonna be and how worth it.

201

:

You'll find it.

202

:

Hey, I'm just took a sip of a

cup of coffee that I'm drinking.

203

:

1418 brand coffee that reminded

me of one of our church attendees

204

:

highly committed participant Abe

Kim a brought the coffee to us and

205

:

said, Hey, we just, we love you guys.

206

:

Just wanted to say thank you

and so here's some coffee.

207

:

That was awesome.

208

:

Oh, and so here I am.

209

:

I'm drinking my coffee about a week

and a half later after that probably.

210

:

Wow.

211

:

And I'm thinking about the Kim family.

212

:

Wow.

213

:

Good job.

214

:

Kims also, they're done with school.

215

:

This homeschool thing is crazy.

216

:

Like I found out the other day,

I'm like they're just done.

217

:

They've been done with

school for three months.

218

:

They're like done.

219

:

They're just three months ago.

220

:

They worked really hard and then they

party really hard during the summer.

221

:

That's the way to do it, man.

222

:

Yeah.

223

:

So anyways let's jump into our text.

224

:

Today we've got second Samuel 10

and one Chronicles 19, and Psalm 20.

225

:

We were talking before we hit

record, that this is the, this is

226

:

the last, Hey, look at David before

we're like, oh man, look at David.

227

:

Yeah.

228

:

So enjoy today because

tomorrow takes a bit of a turn.

229

:

Actually not a bit of a

term, quite a sharp term.

230

:

An unfortunate one.

231

:

Yeah.

232

:

Chapter 10, you've got this somewhat

humorous scene, although it wasn't

233

:

at the time but it's humorous

to us today to think about it.

234

:

You've got the death of the king, of the

Ammonites and David is trying to be a good

235

:

dude and wants to express his condolences.

236

:

And so he sends a, an envoy to.

237

:

Bring some gifts to say, Hey, I'm

sorry that you lost your dad, but

238

:

there's some wicked counselors here

and I don't know if this has ever

239

:

struck you, but this reminded me of

what's gonna happen actually after

240

:

Solomon with Ray Bo and Ome when Rebo

surrounds himself with some pretty stupid

241

:

counselors who give him bad advice.

242

:

And so here you've got the

same thing with a pagan king.

243

:

Some counselors that give him

bad advice, say, David's just

244

:

trying to spy out your land.

245

:

And they humiliate this Envoy.

246

:

And they shave off half the beard and

cut off their clothes at the waistline.

247

:

And this is not a good look for them.

248

:

And so David finds out about it

and he tells them to, Hey, you stay

249

:

at Jericho until everything has

grown back and you can get some new

250

:

clothes and then you can come back

and not be ashamed or embarrassed.

251

:

That stood out to me because Jericho.

252

:

Is a city that was destroyed by Joshua

and there was a curse put upon it.

253

:

Anyone who would rebuild it.

254

:

If you go to Israel today,

there's still a Jericho.

255

:

You can go visit the city of Jericho.

256

:

It's next to, it's adjacent to

the ancient city of Jericho.

257

:

So probably what this is it's.

258

:

Another version of Jericho part

two that was built adjacent to the

259

:

original city that was destroyed

during the conquest of the land.

260

:

So I don't think this is the

same Jericho that was rebuilt.

261

:

I think this is another city named for

the city that was destroyed, built in

262

:

close proximity to where the city I.

263

:

Itself had been destroyed.

264

:

And that's where David says, Hey,

hang out there and stop there.

265

:

Rest of the chapter is Victory for David.

266

:

David bows up against the Ammonites.

267

:

The Ammonites, get the Syrians.

268

:

And then, and this is the

beginning of an interesting

269

:

conflict between Israel and Syria.

270

:

That's gonna play out.

271

:

I.

272

:

Into the future.

273

:

But but the Syrians show up here to try to

help the Ammonites, that doesn't go well.

274

:

Then the Syrians try to say we could

have taken you in by ourselves.

275

:

And that doesn't go well because God

is with David still at this point

276

:

in his life, and David is winning

these battles and these victories.

277

:

Yeah.

278

:

This is the high point or the

last high point of David's career

279

:

as a military man, as a leader.

280

:

But it's one we're celebrating.

281

:

This is, again, to the.

282

:

Point to the fact that God's the

one who's controlling this David's

283

:

victory and success is not because

of his military prowess, although

284

:

he's certainly got something.

285

:

It is the fact that God is with him.

286

:

He's the one who's doing good through

him and David know knows this.

287

:

And I think David never forgets

this honestly, even though he's

288

:

got some major flaws that we're

gonna have to work through.

289

:

I think David truly is a humble

man who recognizes that God's the

290

:

one who's working through him.

291

:

There is a textual variant

between these two chapters.

292

:

And I guess lemme just 0.1

293

:

out to you right now before we get over

to First Chronicles and is in verse 18,

294

:

Syrians fled before Israel, David killed

of the Syrians, the men of 700 chariots.

295

:

Okay, keep that part in mind.

296

:

We'll address that when we

get to First Chronicles.

297

:

Yeah.

298

:

One thing that I love here we talked

about David, the military strategist.

299

:

I think we see Joe Abs military

prowess here in this situation

300

:

because they're outnumbered.

301

:

It looks like Israel should lose this

battle, and Joe Ebbs says, Hey, let's

302

:

split our forces, and I just love

the trust in God, but yet I'm going

303

:

to, I'm gonna do my part in this.

304

:

Iss not a let go and let God, Joe

doesn't just say, okay, God, we're

305

:

just gonna rush headlong into

the enemy and trust you in this.

306

:

He says, no, we're gonna

plan and strategize.

307

:

And then I love what he

says to his brother there.

308

:

He says, look if God's behind

us, we'll have victory.

309

:

If not, we're done either way.

310

:

So here's what we're gonna do

and we'll see what God does.

311

:

And it's gonna be good because

God's the one that's gonna do this.

312

:

And so Joe Abs commendable in

this, as is his brother Abha

313

:

in this this situation here.

314

:

But yeah, I've always loved the.

315

:

The marriage of God's trusting God's

sovereignty, and yet saying, we've

316

:

gotta make sure we're doing our part

here on the ground as we, we draw

317

:

up for battle against these guys.

318

:

Yeah.

319

:

It's not a verse.

320

:

I know people often cited as a verse,

it's the sense Aris is saying God

321

:

helps those who help themselves.

322

:

I think Benjamin Franklin is the

one who popularized that idea.

323

:

It's not true in the sense

that it's not biblical.

324

:

There's not a verse that you could

point to that says that there is

325

:

a hint of truth in it, though.

326

:

In that God does use means to

accomplish his divine purposes,

327

:

and those means are often the

things that people look down upon.

328

:

Prayer, submission, surrender, but

it's also the strategic practical

329

:

planning that we do every day.

330

:

So keeping a budget.

331

:

Is a really practical way to strategize

where God wants to use your finances.

332

:

Keeping a calendar is a strategic

and practical way for how God

333

:

wants you to spend your life.

334

:

You get to choose how

you're gonna do that.

335

:

Now, God's gonna orchestrate your life

to his purposes and his desires, but it's

336

:

not without your active voluntary even.

337

:

I'll use that word, even though I know

we, we were, we're all thinking the

338

:

same thing because God is sovereign.

339

:

It's your voluntary.

340

:

Agency that God utilizes

to accomplish his purposes.

341

:

So don't negate that

it's not this or that.

342

:

It's this and that.

343

:

Yeah.

344

:

Yeah.

345

:

Alright, let's get over to the parallel

text then in one Chronicles 19.

346

:

And let's deal with this

textual variant here.

347

:

Where do you want us to go?

348

:

Verse 18 it's actually

verse 18 in both texts.

349

:

So first.

350

:

It's Chronicles 19, two Samuel 10.

351

:

They're both of verse 18.

352

:

So take a look here.

353

:

Syrians fled before Israel.

354

:

David killed the Syrians, the men

of, and here we go, 7,000 chariots.

355

:

40,000 foot soldiers and he

put to death choppa Chop Show.

356

:

Show that guy.

357

:

Yeah.

358

:

But anyway, 7,000 verses 700.

359

:

This one's a little easier to understand

and you probably would be able to say,

360

:

okay, I could see what happened there.

361

:

So obviously you have a difference

in number one, 7,001 700.

362

:

And I think, I forget now.

363

:

This has been a couple days since I

looked at this, but I think that the

364

:

large number of commentators will

agree with the 7,000 number and not

365

:

700 either are a possibility though.

366

:

And this is one of those scribal issues

where it's, okay, was it three zeros?

367

:

Was it four zeros?

368

:

This is one of those areas where

it's not gonna make or break

369

:

our faith, but it is there.

370

:

And these are the kind of things

that you need to be aware of.

371

:

They're not meant to disagree with

each other in that they're not.

372

:

It's not, they're not both true.

373

:

Certainly one of them is true because

they're both talking about the same thing.

374

:

And a good Bible exe will say,

okay, which one do I believe?

375

:

And this is where you have to go

into your due diligence and looking

376

:

at your various resources to say

which one makes the most sense.

377

:

Now the NET Bible will record 700.

378

:

Other Bibles will record

7,000 as the ESV does.

379

:

There's different approaches to this,

but again, nothing to be a afraid of.

380

:

Yeah.

381

:

EE even the language there, there's

40,000 horsemen in one and 40,000

382

:

foot soldiers in the other one or

ground troops in the other one.

383

:

And so that's another example

there of some things that can get.

384

:

Confused or lost in translation as well.

385

:

Alright.

386

:

Psalm chapter 20.

387

:

Anything else on the parallel there

that you wanted to call out there?

388

:

No, just that.

389

:

Okay.

390

:

Psalm chapter 20 is another Psalm

of David and we're not sure here of

391

:

the timing, but certainly fits the

tone of a victory psalm and so it.

392

:

Could be that this was written after these

victories or maybe after the victories

393

:

that we read about in Second Samuel eight.

394

:

But this would've been sung after

winning battles like those here.

395

:

And and this is a psalm of well wishing

upon the people that culminates in

396

:

the expression of great trust in God.

397

:

In verse seven, and we alluded to this

verse the other day, but here it is,

398

:

some trust in chariots, some in horses.

399

:

But we trust in the name

of the Lord our God.

400

:

Yeah, so it, you can see why it

connects here because you've got

401

:

these massive numbers of chariots and

horsemen that David and his crew and

402

:

Joe Ab and Abishai were up against,

and yet God gave them the victory.

403

:

And so it fits here that maybe David wrote

this psalm reflecting on that saying, man,

404

:

they trusted in their army, they trusted

in their chariots and their horsemen.

405

:

Even think back to the Exodus and Pharaoh

and his armies pursuing the Israelites.

406

:

Look, we're gonna trust in

the name of the Lord our God.

407

:

We're gonna trust that

he is able to do this.

408

:

And when we see the name of the Lord

our God what we're talking about there

409

:

is his reputation, his character,

who he has revealed himself to be.

410

:

We're trusting in him, his person.

411

:

That's what's referenced

there by the name.

412

:

And so it's not that they're carrying

a banner with the name Yahweh,

413

:

and they're looking at the banner

itself or the word itself going.

414

:

That's what we're trusting.

415

:

And it's meant to stand in for the

whole person there of God himself.

416

:

And that's where our trust needs to be.

417

:

And it needs to be there for us too.

418

:

Yeah, we've got a lot going on right now.

419

:

I just, we've been talking

about Epic City, right?

420

:

Yes.

421

:

Yeah.

422

:

That, that was in the news again recently

because the DOJ the Federal Department

423

:

of Justice is now doing an investigation,

launching an investigation into Epic City.

424

:

I saw that, I found in my heart,

my initial response was, oh, good.

425

:

This is a good thing.

426

:

I wanted that.

427

:

And yet I caught myself.

428

:

I'm like, wait a minute.

429

:

My, my trust is not in the DOJ

under this administration coming

430

:

in and protecting us from the

islamification of North Texas, right?

431

:

My trust is in a sovereign God.

432

:

Now, if he uses those means,

means great, praise God.

433

:

It's not that we should

not want that to happen.

434

:

I think it's a good thing and

I want it to be shut down.

435

:

I don't want the islamification

of our area at all.

436

:

It's a false gospel.

437

:

It's gonna lead more and

more people to hell, but.

438

:

Man, where's our trust in in, whether

it's that or in your health diagnosis

439

:

or you've got marital strife at home.

440

:

It, where is your trust?

441

:

We're gonna be like, Joe, Adam,

we're gonna, we're going do the work.

442

:

We're gonna think about how we

need to move forward and be smart

443

:

about that, and apply the wisdom

that we believe that we have.

444

:

But where's our trust?

445

:

In the end of the day?

446

:

We have to trust in him.

447

:

That's why things like accountability

so good, but they're lousy saviors.

448

:

Our trust can't be in

accountability to overcome sin.

449

:

Our trust has to be in our

relationship with Christ.

450

:

Our trust has to be in the

Lord to help us in that.

451

:

So a lot of people are gonna I

think, naturally wonder then, okay.

452

:

If I'm trusting the Lord,

then where is the line?

453

:

For instance if I have a strange growth

in some part of my body, should I go to

454

:

the doctor or should I trust the Lord?

455

:

If I live in an area where I

think, man, it would be prudent

456

:

for me to have an alarm system.

457

:

Should I get the alarm system and

spend the extra $35 a month or whatever

458

:

it is, or should I trust the Lord?

459

:

Should I get additional insurance for

my car with a very low deductible,

460

:

or should I trust the Lord?

461

:

I think a lot of these things

people are gonna wonder what

462

:

practically then do I do?

463

:

Should I throw caution to the wind?

464

:

Should I buy the insurance?

465

:

Should I, should I buy a gun?

466

:

If the criminal is trying to

open my door, do I trust the Lord

467

:

and pray, or do I call the cops?

468

:

Help answer some of those questions.

469

:

Yeah, I think discernment is gonna be

super helpful in a lot of this because

470

:

it's subjective in so much of this, if

security becomes an idol, then there

471

:

is a degree to which we can go too far

and we're no longer trusting the Lord.

472

:

We are trusting our Glock.

473

:

We are trusting our security system.

474

:

We are trusting the

neighborhood that we moved into.

475

:

And if you're up late at night and

you're not able to sleep because

476

:

you're afraid that somebody's

gonna break in your home, you're.

477

:

Not trusting the Lord.

478

:

Now, is it wrong to have

locks on our doors and things?

479

:

No, absolutely not.

480

:

You look at these cities,

they were fortified.

481

:

The Israelis dwelled with gates and they

shut the gates and they locked the gates.

482

:

And so as, as much as they said

with David in Psalm 20, we trust

483

:

in the name of the Lord our God.

484

:

They're also gonna say, we're

gonna dwell inside walled cities

485

:

with gates, and we're gonna have

centuries on the post to watch out.

486

:

Even just wisdom in it.

487

:

Joab had to pursue some sort of

military training and so he did that.

488

:

He went out and got the military training

necessary to be able to command the

489

:

armies and to know, okay, I'm outnumbered.

490

:

What do I need to do?

491

:

I need to cover my front

side and my backside.

492

:

So we're gonna split because this

is a military process and thing that

493

:

works and it's proven to work in

the past, so we're gonna do this.

494

:

And so even there education,

you can see that's helpful

495

:

for us to go and pursue that.

496

:

That's not undermining our

confidence in the Lord.

497

:

It just comes back to me, and

this is why I say it's subjective.

498

:

We have to examine our hearts to say,

God, am gonna go so far, but I'm not

499

:

gonna go beyond the degree to where

I'm saying I don't trust you enough.

500

:

At this point, we have to get

to a place where we say, okay,

501

:

and now I'm gonna trust you.

502

:

And that's gonna be

different for every person.

503

:

By and large if you've got 40 locks

on your door and three alarm systems,

504

:

okay we might have a problem there.

505

:

We might have a, an issue of you're

not trusting the Lord with your

506

:

family's wellbeing and safety.

507

:

If you're paying an exorbitant

amount of money for car insurance

508

:

and that's impacting your ability to

be generous towards other people and

509

:

to give to the church, I would say.

510

:

Okay.

511

:

I think we've got an issue there too.

512

:

But it's, I, you can't make an objective,

hard and fast rule across the board.

513

:

Yeah.

514

:

I think we have to find the way to go

to the doctor and yet not trust the

515

:

doctor or trusting the Lord to get the

car insurance that we need and to trust

516

:

the Lord and to to have the gun, if

that's what your family believes you

517

:

should do, and yet still trust the Lord.

518

:

I think of Psalm 1 27.

519

:

Unless the Lord watches over the city,

the watchman stays awake in vain.

520

:

So God has to be behind your activity.

521

:

And then just as we said here it

was noble of Joe Ab and Abishai

522

:

to do the things that they did

to strategize, and God used that.

523

:

God bless that.

524

:

The same thing is true for us when it

comes to living our everyday lives.

525

:

We have to make decisions that we say.

526

:

We're doing this as an act of

trust and not in defiance of that

527

:

trust, and that's often hard.

528

:

That means you have to be paying

attention to your heart in the first

529

:

place when you're spending money in

investing all your time, energy, and

530

:

resources into something to protect your

family or to to protect your nest egg.

531

:

You have to always diagnose your heart.

532

:

What am I doing this for?

533

:

What's the motivation behind it?

534

:

Christian has to learn how to operate

in this world and do the practical

535

:

thing, strategize, spend, save, give.

536

:

And yet still at the end of the

day, say, I'm trusting in the Lord.

537

:

Even as I do these things, there

are evidence of my trust and

538

:

not evidence of its absence.

539

:

Yeah, let's pray and then we'll

be done with this episode.

540

:

God, help us to find that

balance, to walk that line.

541

:

It's so hard and and there's plenty

of reasons for us to fear whether it's

542

:

health related reasons or our security,

our safety, what's going on with the the

543

:

population of our area here in North Texas

and who's moving in and what's going on.

544

:

It's so many reasons we can find to.

545

:

To feel like we need to take

things into our own hands,

546

:

and yet we make lousy saviors.

547

:

We don't have armies.

548

:

We don't have chariots to trust in, but

we have security systems and we have

549

:

politicians, and we have, our doctors

or our health and wellbeing specialists.

550

:

Lord, we need to ultimately have our

trust anchored to you because even

551

:

if we have the best of all of that,

if you desire to call us home, you're

552

:

gonna, you're gonna bring us home.

553

:

And so gotta increase our faith in you.

554

:

Help us to.

555

:

To rest in you and not to be a fearful

people to be wise, but and to take

556

:

advantage of the resources that you've

given to us to protect our families

557

:

and our homes and everything else.

558

:

But also at the end of the day

to say, look, Lord, your will

559

:

be done as Joab does here.

560

:

And what a great example that is.

561

:

I thank you for that example in the

text and just pray that we would live

562

:

it out as your followers even today.

563

:

We pray in Jesus' name.

564

:

Amen.

565

:

Amen.
