On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, an African-American man, was killed in the Powderhorn community of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
While Floyd was handcuffed and lying face down on a city street during an arrest, Derek Chauvin, a white American Minneapolis police officer, kept his knee on the right side of Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. According to the criminal complaint against Chauvin, 2 minutes and 53 seconds of that time occurred after Floyd became unresponsive.
Please listen to the entire episode, all 8 minutes and 46 seconds, and in your mind put yourself on that street with a 200+ pound man driving your neck into the pavement. Imagine the horror of not being able to breathe and your pleas for help, for breath, for your mother, and simply to live are ignored.
We stand with individuals all over the world today for #BlackOutTuesday who are weary in the battle for racial equality and to take a stand against the “racism and inequality that exists from the boardroom to the boulevard.”
Please pray with us as the fallout from this tragic and senseless murder continues to play across every media outlet and in cities all across our nation and the world. Pray for healing. Pray for peace. Pray for the 'greatest of these' to be found in each of us with forgiving hearts to move us towards equality for all.
