And we're back with another Sound Mind Series! This time it's the book of Revelation. I hope and pray that you all follow along to the VERY important and urgent reminders left to John, by our Lord, Jesus Christ.

episode of I Can't, He Can.

be doing today the Sound Mind

series, the Book of Revelation.

I am so, so excited, you guys.

I've been a little anxious, if truth

be told, not in a bad way, like bad

anxiety, but just anxious because

I want to do this book justice.

as every book, of course, you know.

At any time, even if it's not reading a

book for the Sound Mind series, but just

10

if we are doing any sort of recording

that has to do with anything of scripture,

11

the word of Jesus Christ, we have to do

it justice and we have to do it right.

so I don't know why, but I just feel

like I have, this weight of what this

13

book is, and I feel that that is the

sensation and feeling that a lot of

14

people get about the Book of Revelation.

A lot of people are just,

What's the word I'm looking for?

Oh my gosh.

I'm having like a total like

squirrel brain moment right now.

Intimidated.

Oh my God, you guys saw

when I remembered the word.

so a lot of people are intimidated,

not just by the Bible, but

21

by the Book of Revelation.

And that heaviness that I feel like

I have weighing over my shoulders

is not so much because of the book

itself, but making sure that I have

24

the right message, coming across the

screen and to whoever is watching,

25

and of course to whoever is reading.

Now, as I always say, have your Bibles.

You guys know that I

have my Bible right here.

I have my New King James Version Bible.

That is the only version I read from.

when I first started my walk with

Christ, I used to read from the

31

World English Bible, acronyms

WEB, which is great version also.

But this to me is just more precise word

for word translation, and it's, it's

just very easy for me to understand.

Now, with that said, before I get into

our introduction about Revelation,

something that has been weighing on me,

And it's a little side note not really

36

having to do with this Sound Mind series

for Revelation that we're going to do.

it's something that dawned on me, in

my Wednesday Bible study with my church

38

Living Upward and even on Sundays,

when, when we do the, church service.

Now, when I started my walk, I

think I mentioned in one of the

40

episodes before, I had no idea

what version of the Bible to read.

Anyway, long story short, now I read

the NKJV as I always tell you guys.

42

However, as I started reading, I

felt a lot of confusion reading I

43

feel like the people that listen

to this podcast are people that

44

actually do read as much as they can.

Can we always read a little bit more?

46

Yeah, absolutely.

47

But I do feel that the people who

actively listen to this podcast are

48

people that are very interested in

learning and growing in the Word.

So my message to you is, and this was a

very clear message from my pastor, all the

50

time, but it finally hit me, like I said.

It's most recently, like, I was like,

"Oh, this is why it's so much easier."

52

We need to rightly divide the Word of God.

53

This was written across thousands of years

by multiple people, which is why people

54

have doubts about if it's real or not.

We all know this is real.

This is the living Word of God, right?

With that aside, the Bible is written,

in many aspects to Jews at this time

58

So we can't always take every

single thing word for word.

Some things are not directed to us.

They're directed to the Israelites,

people that, were and are of

61

Jewish descent mostly were 'cause,

you know, it's at that time.

But anyway, I digress.

But the point is that when you're

reading, you have to really understand

who that book was written to.

Which I feel I have tried to do a better

job lately as I'm doing the Sound Mind

series to let you guys know who is writing

this and to who they were talking to.

that has helped me so much in deciphering

the book itself because if you understand

the story of how Solomon came into

power, then you will understand why he

69

wrote, Ecclesiastes the way that he did.

Same thing goes with Jude.

You would understand that he is

the half brother of Jesus, that he

72

was writing to Jews, that he was

writing to people who were believers.

some books are written to

people that were not believers.

Some books were written,

directed, to Gentiles.

And if you don't know what a

Gentile is, I encourage you guys

to find out what those terms mean.

And the only reason I say that

is because it's going to make

everything so much easier.

And to now continue to harp on that

same note, I say all of that to say

that when we are reading Revelation,

we need to understand that it's also

a very different type of scripture.

the context in which John, who wrote

the Book of Revelation, John the

Beloved, it's very important to know

why it was being written, to who If

84

you know those little backstories, then

everything else is just gonna sink in.

You're gonna be able to

digest that information.

You're gonna be able to retain

that information And it's just

going to be so much better.

and with that, I truly feel

that things will hit you harder.

So there's this one particular section

in Revelation that I was reading that

when I saw it, I was like, "What?

91

Oh my God."

And I can't remember if it was

chapter one or chapter two now, so

when I get to that part, you guys

will know what I'm talking about.

But I had never heard of that

particular detail in any other of

95

the books that I have read so far.

and when I saw it, I was like, man,

the Lord really put that in front of

my eyes and opened my spiritual eyes so

that I can take in that little detail.

And again, as always, I had a little

discussion, side conversation with David

about it, and, I don't think that he had

really heard too much about that either.

We looked into it a little bit and what

that could mean, and I'm not gonna divulge

too much because it was an important

detail, and I wanna give it, the credit

that it deserves when we get there.

But again, nonetheless, the more

that you understand, the more

it will hit you to your core.

And the more you grow, and that's the

whole point of why we're doing this.

not only so that you can just

hear a person talk, but so that

you can grow and learn to love

and appreciate the word of God.

So And just so that you guys know,

I have taken many, many notes.

This is the Book of Revelation and

we are going to start our summary.

Forgive me if I don't look too much

at the camera, I'm just gonna go over

some of the notes that I have here.

And in summary, it is a

great book of encouragement.

John is the author, the beloved, and

he is the younger brother of James,

John was one of the 12

disciples as well as James.

with that said, like I mentioned, this

is in essence a book of encouragement.

A lot of people are intimidated

by Revelation just because of

147

the kind of details that it

has, it seems kind of scary.

and while it may sound scary, I don't

really think it is, but I'll get to that.

this is also a scripture

that can be broken down into

150

categories of literature types.

these are the themes that it contains

here: apocalyptic, which contains

152

extensive symbolism; eschatology,

that's concerning end time prophecy;

Anyway, this was a thought that I

had earlier right before I started

recording, so what I'm gonna say now.

But according to biblical scholars,

Revelation was most likely, in

156

parentheses so it's not a fact, but most

likely written between 81 and 96 AD.

And if you obviously know, AD is

After Death of Jesus, which is

158

at the end of the first century,

when this was most likely written.

Now, from what I have been looking

into, John is one of the youngest

160

disciples, if not the youngest.

161

It's believed that he was between

like 16 to early 20s, when Jesus

162

started the ministry and John joined.

so I just want you guys to

take that in for a second.

He was very, very young.

Just a h- a handful of years later, Jesus

dies and he lives his whole life because

he was the last disciple to pass away.

from what I was looking

up, he was not martyred.

I have even seen, some videos and read

a few things where it says that perhaps,

you know, 'cause obviously we don't know,

one day I pray that we will know, that

John was left as the last one and was

not martyred because this was his task.

Jesus knew that he was going to

leave it up to him to write this

book and to leave this for us.

but when I wrote this down and

I read it before I recorded,

again, it says that, "Biblical

scholars believe that Revelation

was written between 81 and 96 AD."

So if John was in his early 20s,

let's just say 20, and this was

written when it was 96 AD, how old

was he when he received this vision,

from Jesus to then write the book?

He was, he was, like, over 100.

And then just imagine, um, when he was on

the island of Patmos, I believe it was.

to get to because I couldn't find

information, essentially John was in his

either very, very, very late 90s, which

I doubt, or early 100s, which is what

I do think, closer to the age he was.

He waited his entire life and then he

finally again had this vision of Jesus

and He was exiled at this time he was

just living a very set-apart life and

he wouldn't bow down to, the, the Roman

emperor, whoever it was at that time.

So obviously had a bunch of consequences.

Thankfully, and he had the opportunity

to write the Book of Revelation.

But again, It's vital that we

understand that because these were

not just words that were, you know,

put into a book and, and left for us.

No, there is weight and

there is, importance

There was a purpose.

and again, this Book of Revelation

is a book of encouragement.

It is for the people who are believers,

that are being persecuted, that are being

or trying to be steered away from the

gospel, that are at risk of falling again

to the enemy and the things of the world.

you'll see that, Jesus has a very

specific message for the churches at

the time, which were real churches.

but again, we have to take everything into

context, like Jude said in the Book of

Jude, we have to contend for our faith.

We have to be firm, we have to

be strong about it, and we have

215

to definitely just hold the line.

We have to hold the line and the things

that Jesus reveals in the Book of

Revelation from what I know thus far

is only hope and encouragement that

218

what is coming for us, the believers,

the people who stand firm, is nothing

short of glorious and amazing.

So anyway, to move on I'll put a pin in

that, I don't have too many side notes.

short, but I am going to read it

in its entirety and then go back

to my notes briefly for you guys.

The Book of Revelation, chapter 1

The revelation of Jesus Christ, which

God gave him to show his servants

things which must shortly take place.

And he sent and signified it by his angel

to his servant John, who bore witness to

the word of God, and to the testimony of

Jesus Christ to all things that he saw.

Blessed is he who reads and those

who hear the words of this prophecy,

and keep those things which are

written in it, for the time is near.

John to the seven churches

which are in Asia.

233

Grace to you and peace from him who is and

who was and who is to come, and from the

234

seven Spirits who are before his throne,

and from Jesus Christ, the faithful

235

witness, the firstborn from the dead, and

the ruler over the kings of the earth.

To him who loved us and washed us

from our sins in his own blood,

and has made us kings and priests

to his God and Father, to him be

glory and dominion forever and ever.

Behold, he is coming with

clouds, and every eye will see

him, even they who pierced him.

These are red letter, the words of Jesus.

"I am the Alpha and the Omega,

the Beginning and the End," says

the Lord, "Who is and who was and

who is to come, the Almighty."

I, John, both your brother and

companion in the tribulation and

kingdom and the patience of Jesus

Christ, was on the island that is

called Patmos for the Word of God and

for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

I was in the Spirit and on the Lord's

day, and I heard behind me a loud voice

as of a trumpet, saying, "I am the Alpha

and the Omega, the first and the last.

And what you see, write in a book and

send it to the seven churches which

are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna,

to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis,

to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea."

Then I turned to see the

voice that spoke with me.

And having turned, I saw

seven golden lampstands.

And in the midst of the seven lampstands,

one like the Son of Man, clothed with

a garment down to the feet and girded

about the chest with a golden band.

His head and hair were white

like wool, as white as snow, and

His eyes like a flame of fire.

His feet were like fine brass, as

it refined in a furnace, and His

voice as the sound of many waters.

He had in His right hand seven stars.

Out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged

like this feeling where I can't mess up.

just has so much more weight to it.

But anyway, chapter one, I noted this as

John's introduction, and even though it

does have already some assignments that

Jesus gave John, it is an introduction to

what's going to really be said by Jesus

in chapter two and the other chapters.

So verse one says, "The revelation of

Jesus Christ, which God gave Him," capital

288

H meaning Jesus, "to show His servants."

it goes on a little more, but I put here,

"Given by God to Jesus and then to John."

So very specifically, this was

a message from God to Jesus,

and then where did Jesus go?

Jesus met John on the island

of Patmos so that He can give

him this message directly.

I skipped over to verse three, and I

put here, "Words of this prophecy,"

and I put that in quotes so I believe

it does say that specifically.

Verse three says, "Blessed is

he who reads and those who hear

the words of this prophecy."

I underlined it and I put,

"Confirms this is a prophecy."

So kind of like how in the summary

it says that, there's different,

types of literature, and this is,

this could be a prophetic writing.

No, guys, literally

these words are prophecy.

so I wrote here on my notes verse

three, "Words of this prophecy," this

signifies that it's not just a dream

or a vision, but prophetic words.

And I also put in parentheses,

"And warning of sorts from Jesus."

And I put, "And warning," because I

already read, I, up to chapter four and I

see all the things that Jesus is saying,

so while it's a message to the churches,

it's also kind of a warning in a way.

Verse four I skipped over and let's see,

it says, "John to the seven churches

which are in Asia: Grace to you and

peace from him who is and who was

310

and who is to come and from the seven

spirits," I underlined from the seven

spirits, "who are before his throne."

so verse four here I put confirms

that this chapter is written to

seven churches in Asia, and also

named Seven Spirits, need more info.

I already know what those are, but I'm

not gonna get too into it because I don't

want to spoil anything until we get there.

verse 7, I skipped over to verse 7.

Actually, pause for a second here in

verse 5, it continues and it says, "And

from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness,

the firstborn from the dead, and the

ruler over the kings of the earth."

And then I put what Jesus is.

Jesus is the ruler of the earth.

And then it continues, "To him who loved

us," him meaning Jesus, "who loved us and

washed us from our sins in his own blood."

Yes, again, he is the

reason why we are saved.

It's because of him that

we, have our salvation now.

verse 7 here continues, my little notes

say, "Jesus will come back with clouds.

dead, example, people who pierced him.

So when I read that, and I'll go

to verse 7 now, I thought, I'm

like, even those who pierced him.

So does that literally mean--

And this is where, like,

Revelation starts getting you.

Does that mean, is it the people that

actually pierced him at the time?

So the people that are already dead

from the time where Jesus was crucified,

are those people also in a way going

to see his coming, where we're all

going to experience this somehow

in wh- whatever realm they're in?

I don't know what to say it, so forgive

me, if I sound a little weird saying that.

but I thought, I was like, "Okay, so

even the ones that pierced him will see."

Or is this-- Remember, 'cause this

was written in a specific time.

or could we take this and make it for

today's time and say, the people that

pierce him now, meaning spiritually,

the people that deny him, the people

that, say, "No, I don't believe in

Jesus," or, "No, Jesus, you know,

was not, did not live and was not

crucified or whatnot," those people.

So you can, you know, decipher what

you want, but those were my immediate

thoughts when I read that, in verse 7.

And it says, "Behold, he is coming with

clouds, and every eye will see him, even

they who pierced him, and all the tribes

of the earth will mourn because of him.

Even so, amen."

So again A lot to think about.

So there's just so many things, that we

can interpret and we can take from this.

But, moving on.

Now I skip over to verse 11, and it says

here, "Where John was when he got the

vision and what Jesus first said," and

then I put, "On a Sunday, the Lord's day."

So it was on a Sunday, the Lord's day.

and he was on the island of Patmos.

So I'm gonna go ahead and skip over.

verse nine and then through

verse 11 Is where, where he was

367

and where Jesus speaks to him.

"I, John, both your brother and

companion in the tribulation and

kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ,

was on the island that is called

Patmos for the Word of God and for

the testimony of Jesus Christ."

Verse 10, "I was in the

Spirit on the Lord's day."

So I'm gonna pause there for a second.

So on the Lord's day, on a Sunday, I'm

sure he was in the Spirit all the time,

but he must have been in a moment.

Just imagine, in the island of Patmos,

he was exiled, he, I'm assuming,

didn't really have much going on

for his life other than he was

377

just trying to stay out of trouble.

and he still found it in him, in this

old age, to be in the Spirit from

when Jesus was crucified in his early

20s all the way to around the 90s AD

when this book was supposedly written,

according to biblical scholars.

Imagine how he was still in the

Spirit after all those years.

He still managed to hold firm and

contend for the faith, even at that age.

So I just find that so remarkable, and

it's no wonder that Jesus chose him to

384

leave this for us and to write this book.

so verse 12, that's where John

turns to see who is speaking, and

he sees seven golden lampstands.

And then verse 13 through 16, it

explains what Jesus looked like.

So, let me look at the lampstands here.

Verse 12, "Then I turned to see

the voice that spoke with me.

And having turned, I saw

seven golden lampstands.

And in the midst of the seven lampstands,

one like the Son of Man, clothed with

a garment down to the feet and girded

about the chest with a golden band."

Quick pause.

I could only imagine that gold and

a band of like that caliber was used

only for kings and for high priests,

so I'm sure that if anyone at that

time saw him, he would've been like…

Or they, excuse me, they would've

been like, "Wow, this is a, a

person who's, who's up there," if

they didn't know who Jesus was.

But everyone knew who Jesus was.

Anyway, I digress.

now going to verse 17, John's

reaction to seeing Jesus.

"And when I saw Him, I

fell at His feet as dead.

But He laid his right hand on me,

saying to me, 'Do not be afraid.

I am the First and the Last.'"

Guys, I thought this was so important.

do not be afraid.

Because it reminded me of, I think

where Jesus also says, "Do not

be afraid, I'll be with you," un-

basically until the end of time.

I'm gonna read it now, 'cause

I don't wanna s- you know, mess

up scripture, by any means.

But when I read that the first

time, that's what it reminded me of.

again, going back to what John was

going through, at an old age, seeing

that it was Jesus, he had such an

incredible reaction he almost fainted.

Just imagine all those years what he

went through, finally seeing Jesus again.

He was probably like, "Oh,

finally, it's my time."

Um, but anyway, let me look here really

418

I want to share that with you guys

419

So yeah, Matthew 28:20 and ch-

ch- ch- it says, "Teaching them

420

to observe all things that I have

commanded you: and lo, I am with you

421

always even to the end of the age.

422

Amen."

So here again it says, chapter one,

verse 17 in Revelation, "And when I

424

saw him, I fell at his feet as dead.

425

But he laid his right hand on me,

saying to me, 'Do not be afraid.

426

I am the first and the last.'"

Um, and it continues on 18, "I

am He who lives and was dead, and

428

behold, I am alive forevermore.

Amen."

And it reminded me of Matthew

431

forever and He never left us.

He is always with us.

Like, there's no reason

for us to be afraid.

And the same thing goes

for the Book of Revelation.

There's nothing to be afraid about.

There's only hope to hold

out for and to look out for.

I'm glad that we're at this point

because actually in chapter one

verse 19 is the point of this

entire book is Jesus's instructions

to John and He's very specific.

and then again, I put here in my opinion

Jesus confirms that it's prophetic.

So moving on to verse 19.

He says specifically to John, "Write the

things which you have seen," mind you the

443

visions, not the things of his life, the

visions that Jesus is going to give him.

"Write the things that you have seen

and the things which are, and the things

445

which will take place after this."

So it's very clear that the purpose

of Jesus coming and, and saying

447

to John, "Hey, I need you to do

this," because He needs him to write

448

these things to leave it for us.

Why would Jesus ask anyone to do that?

450

The same reason why Jude wrote a letter to

the Israelites because it was a warning.

451

It was a final, a final chance to

come to the realization that, hey,

452

Stand firm for the gospel.

453

This is what is going to happen,

If you overcome, this is what's

454

going to be waiting for you.

and we continue with verse 20, "The

mystery," and I have mystery circled.

"The mystery of the seven stars

which you saw in my right hand

457

and the seven golden lamp stands."

So the mystery of what he was holding in

his, right hand, which were seven stars,

459

and then the seven golden lamp stands.

And it says with a colon, it

says, "The seven stars are the

461

angels of the seven churches."

462

So the lamp stands essentially have an

angel for every church that he is going

463

to talk about, in the coming chapters.

And then it says, "And the

seven lamp stands which you

465

saw are the seven churches."

So it's the angels of the seven

churches, and it's the lamp stands

467

which signify the churches themselves.

So gonna wrap it up right there.

I really want to continue

because it starts getting into

470

the talk of the churches, and

it's a lot, and it's so good.

And above all, it's still merciful.

472

No matter what happens, even though there

is an element of warning, it is still

473

so merciful, and it's so beautiful to

see that even after all the horrible and

474

degrading things that humanity has done,

In so many, so many thousands of years

475

and even to this day, God and Jesus still

love us, and they continue to warn us, and

476

they have sealed us with the Holy Spirit.

477

Like, when we are saved, we have the Holy

Spirit, and that is the, the one true

478

gift that nudges us continuously and is

saying to us, "Hey, you need to do better.

479

Hey, you just sinned again.

480

You better repent from

that," 'cause we never know.

He's coming like a thief.

He says it himself in the coming

chapters, He's coming like

483

a thief, and you won't know.

So it's important for us to fix our

posture and repent and also just be

485

unapologetic about speaking of Christ.

Like, the last thing we want is to

cover ourselves in shame of any sort
