Shownotes

The most powerful dad is not a dad who can break things or hurt people. The super power that every dad can have that will make the most difference in his kids lives is the ability to listen.  True listening is a full contact sport.  However there are some truths you have to understand:
  • The 2-1 ratio
  • Listening is active
  • Questions are key

The 2-1 Ratio
  • You must listen twice as much as you talk
  • One of the biggest keys to any relationship is listening
  • A man who listens learns how to control himself and to focus his responses
  • A man who listens to his kids earns their love and their ability to hear him
  • When you listen to your kids as a dad, you are showing respect and love

Listening is Active
  • Listening doesn't just mean acknowledging they have spoken
  • Listening is not only hearing but also responding
  • This is so important for parents to do with their kids because it helps them learn how to critically think
  • You can condescend and make them feel stupid or you can be sincere and teach them to think critically
  • Your listening must be active or it won't have any meaning

Questions are Key
  • If you want to be a better listener, you must get better at questions
  • Questions are also a way of communication
  • Develop a curious mindset and apply it to your Kids
  • You must be a student of each child to have good questions because each one is different
  • One of the best ways to improve your relationship with your kids is to ask better questions

If you want to be a powerful dad, learn to listen.  Doing this will expand your relationship with your kids in exponential ways.
