One of the key things to get right in your podcast is your call to action, or CTA. This is when you have a specific action you want listeners to take, and you ask them in-episode to take that action.

But what calls to action should you have, and can you have too many? Let's dig in.

One of the key things to get right in your podcast is your call to action, or CTA. This is when you have a specific action you want listeners to take, and you ask them in-episode to take that action. Signing up for a newsletter, following on their preferred app, leaving a review, signing up for premium content. Make it easy to take the action too, and use a simple short link when speaking about the CTA. So, for example, I might say "Leave a review at OneMinutepPodcastTips.com/review to help others find the show too", instead of "If you like the show, be sure to leave a five star review and rating on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Castbox, PodChaser, and any other apps that support reviews for the show."

The first one's a lot shorter, easier to say and remember, and I can also track how many times that link is clicked, which is always nice. However, you don't want to have too many calls to action in the same episode, as that can dilute the message and confuse the listener. Instead, stick to one or maybe two, if you use a pre-roll and post-roll CTA, one at the start of your episode, for example, and one at the end, and make it clear what the ask is.
