PJ:

Good morning and happy mother's day to all the mothers listening out there.

2

:

Thank you very much on

behalf of all of the mothers.

3

:

Well, you're welcome on

behalf of all the dads and

4

:

Rod (2): husbands and sons.

5

:

PJ: And grandfather.

6

:

Rod (2): All of society

benefits from a mother.

7

:

They really are, you know, they really do.

8

:

There's no qualification, every strata of

9

:

PJ: society benefits from mumps.

10

:

Yep.

11

:

We do.

12

:

And, uh, yeah, such a good thing,

such a caring thing, loving thing.

13

:

I know my mom played a huge role in

my life and I'm grateful for her.

14

:

It say she did do.

15

:

Yeah.

16

:

Yeah, I wouldn't.

17

:

You could say, I wouldn't

even be here without her.

18

:

Rod (2): Not even be here without mom.

19

:

PJ: Yeah.

20

:

That's for sure.

21

:

Yeah, I could say the same.

22

:

Yeah.

23

:

But I know you and I are

thankful for our wives.

24

:

In our kids are thankful for

our wives and they better be.

25

:

Yeah.

26

:

Especially at man in ministry

and every mom works hard.

27

:

I don't want to undersell that.

28

:

I'm just saying from, from personal

experience, man, in ministry.

29

:

Our wives.

30

:

They do some heavy lifting.

31

:

Rod (2): Yeah.

32

:

A lie though, the unseen heroes.

33

:

Cause we can do it.

34

:

We can do because of what they do.

35

:

Right.

36

:

They hold down the Fort when we're

not holding it down, they mean.

37

:

They pray for us.

38

:

And they just, all the behind the scenes,

things that I'm sure most people could see

39

:

if they just pay attention long enough.

40

:

But often, you know, they're just laboring

quietly with a gentle and quiet spirit.

41

:

Yeah.

42

:

As scripture calls it.

43

:

And they just do it.

44

:

So faithfully, man, I love my

wife and I know you love yours.

45

:

These, these moms are something to

be praised, which is exactly what

46

:

PJ: Proverbs 31 says.

47

:

Yep.

48

:

Yep.

49

:

Yeah.

50

:

And her children rise

and call her blessed.

51

:

So Hey, young people out

there listening to this.

52

:

If you have not honored

your mom today, then.

53

:

Get after it, it's time to honor.

54

:

It's time to, to.

55

:

Be thankful for, and,

and to, to praise her.

56

:

Which is interesting, right?

57

:

Because some, sometimes we

think, well, it's wrong to, to

58

:

praise a person or a human being.

59

:

We can fall.

60

:

Pray to the mindset of like

only God is worthy of worship.

61

:

And yes, that's, that's true.

62

:

He's the ultimate object of worship.

63

:

He's worthy of worship.

64

:

But Proverbs 31 says her children

rise and call her blessed.

65

:

Yup.

66

:

And that's a, that's an honorable thing.

67

:

That's a good thing.

68

:

And so there's a, an

appropriate time for that.

69

:

I'm not normally a big hallmark

holiday, kind of a guy.

70

:

And I know that's shocking to you.

71

:

Why it's you.

72

:

You past your peak?

73

:

You're so

74

:

Rod (2): sentimental.

75

:

PJ: I'm just so

76

:

Rod (2): surprised.

77

:

PJ: I know, I know it

doesn't fit my character.

78

:

It

79

:

Rod (2): does not.

80

:

PJ: Yeah, but mother's day

is one that I can stand by.

81

:

Um, I'm thankful for

just the moms out there.

82

:

There are so important to

so many different facets.

83

:

Um, It's a moms'.

84

:

Thank you.

85

:

Good job.

86

:

Keep doing well, Excel still more.

87

:

We might even say, as being gathered moms

88

:

Rod (2): indeed.

89

:

And it says her husband also.

90

:

So please husbands do feel

the encouragement on our part.

91

:

To praise your wife and, and the

word for praise is the Hillel.

92

:

It's the, it's the same

word that we use for Yeah.

93

:

Uh, her husband praises

her praise, your wife.

94

:

I mean, that's a good thing.

95

:

And really in, in the praise of your

wife, when you're, when you're adorning

96

:

the attributes of her goodness,

We know that people are good in so

97

:

far as they reflect God's goodness.

98

:

And so when your wife is displaying good

fruit, Because God's producing it in her.

99

:

So you are praising God when you praise

the good works that your wife does.

100

:

So thank you.

101

:

My love.

102

:

I am so grateful for your life, your,

your, your service, your ministry.

103

:

Um, you deserve all the praise and

adulation that I could give and more.

104

:

PJ: Yeah.

105

:

That's how you sneak in that,

that goodness from your, your MBS.

106

:

It's

107

:

Rod (2): fresh on the mind.

108

:

What can I say?

109

:

I'm still thinking about it.

110

:

Yeah.

111

:

Well, It was, it was good.

112

:

And helpful.

113

:

PJ: Oh man.

114

:

Rod (2): Yeah.

115

:

Compounding it.

116

:

It was doubly doubly.

117

:

Good and help.

118

:

Well, thank you.

119

:

No, it was fun.

120

:

I was glad to be able to do that.

121

:

It's it's sharpens me when I get

to go deep in scripture like that.

122

:

So it was, I was benefited by

123

:

PJ: myself and our men love it.

124

:

Our men love being there and

being a part of that and, and

125

:

being a part of the church I'm

ready for another men's retreat.

126

:

Let's let's do a second one

before the ladies do their first.

127

:

I think the laser would kill us.

128

:

Well, why are you guys going off again?

129

:

Yeah, I haven't had one yet.

130

:

Well then, all right, before we do it,

then I'll preach on Ephesians five.

131

:

Oh, and we'll.

132

:

Oh, okay.

133

:

Yeah, I think that'll go over really well.

134

:

Yeah.

135

:

Especially on mother's day.

136

:

Happy mother's day.

137

:

Here you go.

138

:

Ladies are

139

:

Rod (2): going on another retreat.

140

:

PJ: All right.

141

:

Well, let's get into our Bible reading

for the day, Psalm 65, by the way.

142

:

It's Sunday as well.

143

:

On top of that.

144

:

So happy church day for.

145

:

Child dedication day child.

146

:

Child dedication day.

147

:

That's right.

148

:

Lots of things happening.

149

:

Yeah, we got 10 kiddos.

150

:

I believe, man.

151

:

Yeah.

152

:

It's going to be great.

153

:

We're going to grow one way or another.

154

:

Yeah, we are.

155

:

Yeah.

156

:

We.

157

:

Yeah, we're.

158

:

Uh, speaking of which we've got

these invite cards at church.

159

:

And there they're not there just

to make our table look nice.

160

:

I mean, they do that.

161

:

It makes us look like

we've got things going on.

162

:

Yeah.

163

:

But we actually have them so that

you'll grab them and take them

164

:

with you and, and invite people to

come and be a part of the church.

165

:

That's right.

166

:

And.

167

:

You might think, okay, well,

do I need an invite card?

168

:

No, you don't.

169

:

But man, an invite

cards, a great reminder.

170

:

If you keep a stack in your car

or you keep a stack by your front

171

:

door, it's, it's helpful to have

them there so that you'll see them.

172

:

And it's a visual cue to go, oh yeah.

173

:

You know what?

174

:

I need to invite so-and-so to church.

175

:

I need to invite this person

that I'm having a conversation

176

:

with at Starbucks to church.

177

:

I need to be active in this.

178

:

So we want those to be a resource for you.

179

:

We've got them as, as.

180

:

I think business card size.

181

:

So they're, they're not overly obtrusive.

182

:

They don't take up a ton of space.

183

:

You can keep some with you.

184

:

And hand them out to people and say,

we'd love for you to join us the church.

185

:

Here's our information.

186

:

Yeah.

187

:

We.

188

:

That would be a great thing one a week.

189

:

Even if you just set yourself

a small goal, that would be

190

:

a good goal to have, right.

191

:

Yeah, because yeah.

192

:

That would be amazing.

193

:

We.

194

:

We were talking with somebody recently

and, and just, you know, we, we love

195

:

the fact that, that people come to our

church because they are looking for,

196

:

for being fed and, and looking to grow.

197

:

And.

198

:

And that's a good thing.

199

:

There's nothing wrong with that.

200

:

Uh, but we also want to see people come

that are coming because maybe they have

201

:

never stepped foot in a church before.

202

:

And they need to find out about

Jesus and they need to grow.

203

:

Now let's be clear.

204

:

Sunday morning is for believers.

205

:

That's that's its primary

purpose is to feed the church.

206

:

And that is what the pulpit is for.

207

:

That is what our, our time is for.

208

:

That is what the preaching is

for, but it's not a place where

209

:

unbelievers are not welcome.

210

:

I mean, we should expect them, right.

211

:

We should a hundred percent.

212

:

And I know that every time I preach

on a Sunday morning, but there

213

:

are unbelievers in our midst.

214

:

Uh, and so I'm mindful of

that even with some of my

215

:

application and things like that.

216

:

So.

217

:

We want you to invite people.

218

:

We want you to be sharing

the gospel with people.

219

:

We want you to be engaging

with your neighbors.

220

:

Um, I know my wife and I have been

working on getting our neighbors

221

:

across the street over for dinner.

222

:

I think pastor rod, you just had a family

and your neighborhood over for dinner.

223

:

And moodily and Bindu.

224

:

They

225

:

Rod (2): were lovely.

226

:

PJ: Yeah.

227

:

Yeah, and, and different

beliefs and very much so.

228

:

And sometimes that's scary, right?

229

:

Sometimes we, we think,

man, am I going to be.

230

:

Corrupted by that.

231

:

Is that going to rub off on me?

232

:

Like, so talk through what

that experience was like.

233

:

Rod (2): Yeah.

234

:

I've erected an altar in my office now.

235

:

Okay.

236

:

We're done.

237

:

He's no longer with us anymore.

238

:

No.

239

:

Yeah.

240

:

It's it's, uh, I don't know.

241

:

There is always a danger.

242

:

Uh, whoever walks with the wise

becomes wise, the companion

243

:

of fools will suffer harm.

244

:

That's definitely true.

245

:

That's the Proverbs.

246

:

And yeah, it's the, uh, I think the, the

qualification for every Christian in terms

247

:

of examining your relationships is saying.

248

:

Which direction is the influence going.

249

:

And if you can be confident ensure

that the influence is going to

250

:

come from your part to theirs.

251

:

I think that's a good place to be.

252

:

I want to be salt and light.

253

:

You can't be salt and light if you're

hiding it under a bushel and putting it

254

:

in your room and only, you know, hurting

yourself with other light and salt people.

255

:

Uh, so we're, we're trying

to be deliberate about that.

256

:

And definitely, definitely wise to

ask yourself the question, is this

257

:

relationship corrupting or is it helping.

258

:

And we endeavor to be a salty

and light lit up witness.

259

:

And so far, I think we've

done an okay job at that.

260

:

We definitely keep tabs on it.

261

:

We don't want to allow ourselves

to be overcome by, by bad teaching

262

:

or by a false ideology, which

certainly we do believe that.

263

:

We love these neighbors.

264

:

And I think.

265

:

I think they know that

at least to some degree.

266

:

Um, And they know that we're Christians.

267

:

We're very bold about that.

268

:

So we're trying to be as clear as

we can and, and demonstrate love.

269

:

Well at the same time, making sure that

we don't allow any corrupting influence.

270

:

We're always aware

271

:

PJ: which we're actually talking about

at church this morning with discerning

272

:

the true voice of the shepherd.

273

:

And making sure that that's

our leading influence in life.

274

:

That's going to be a helpful sermon.

275

:

Very helpful.

276

:

Hope.

277

:

So.

278

:

I hope so.

279

:

I hope it'll be good.

280

:

It'll be good and helpful.

281

:

Hey, let's jump in Psalm 65.

282

:

You mentioned the word Hillel

or praise in the, and that's

283

:

how we open up in Psalm 65.

284

:

Praise is, do you.

285

:

And so we just talked about

praising the moms in our life

286

:

and, and that's not a bad thing.

287

:

That's a permissible thing, but ultimately

that's a, a way we're praising them

288

:

because of their obedience to the Lord.

289

:

And so, in, in, in essence, God

is the one receiving the price.

290

:

So praises, do you, oh God.

291

:

In the Psalm here in

Psalm 65 is some of David.

292

:

There's no complaints.

293

:

There's no lament.

294

:

It's.

295

:

It's really just instead an

expression of confident praise in

296

:

response to the goodness of God.

297

:

Uh, it's possible.

298

:

This was another Psalm sung

in association, even with

299

:

the feast of Tabernacles.

300

:

Uh, in verses one through five, you get

praised for God's care for his people.

301

:

And then in verses six through

13, you get, uh, David.

302

:

Uh, admonishing and encouraging

praise for and from creation.

303

:

Uh, itself.

304

:

So, uh, we see that time

and time again in Psalm 19.

305

:

In, in others where a creation is brought

in and focused on as, as reflecting

306

:

the glory of God and present God, we

see similar themes here in Psalm 65.

307

:

Rod (2): Yeah.

308

:

Repeated theme to about verse

seven, who steals the roaring

309

:

of the seas, the roaring of the

waves, the tumult of the peoples.

310

:

Uh, obviously that's pointing to God.

311

:

God is the one who steals the season.

312

:

Of course, his pastor PG mentioned in

one of our prior episodes that alludes

313

:

to, and ultimately points to Jesus

who stills the waves and the seas.

314

:

One other thing in verse 11 here, man,

I could not help, but be moved by this.

315

:

Imagery.

316

:

Uh, you crown the year with

your bounty, your wagon tracks,

317

:

overflow with abundance.

318

:

I just imagine a wagon going down a

trail and just stuff falling off the

319

:

wagon because it's, you know, it's

packed with all sorts of good things in

320

:

this case, the abundance, the bounty.

321

:

The harvest of the year.

322

:

God is not a stingy.

323

:

God.

324

:

He is abundant.

325

:

He has a bountiful and he

gives good gifts to his kids.

326

:

And one of those good gifts

is of course our wives.

327

:

Yeah.

328

:

So not to bring it back to mother's

day, but man, I am thankful for the good

329

:

gift of my wife and the good gift of

this church are so many things that we

330

:

could be thankful for at any given day.

331

:

Let us not wait for

the holiday to do that.

332

:

Thankful everyday, man.

333

:

PJ: True.

334

:

Yeah, I agree.

335

:

All right.

336

:

So I'm 66 then is, uh, uh, some reflecting

on and praising God again for his

337

:

goodness to the people of Israel in.

338

:

So in verses one through four, you

get a call for everyone to worship

339

:

God, all people to worship him.

340

:

And then five through seven.

341

:

Uh, a reflection on his past faithfulness.

342

:

Uh, verses eight through 12, then.

343

:

Praise for ongoing protection and

provision that he is continuing

344

:

to provide and continue to

prevent, protect his people.

345

:

And then verses 13 through 15,

a resolve that David makes here.

346

:

This almost makes here to individual

worship saying I will worship God.

347

:

Uh, I'm going to do this personally.

348

:

And then finally in verses 16 through

20 praise for answered prayer, then

349

:

I'm going to, I'm going to worship

him because he responds and answers.

350

:

Uh, prayer, but, uh, one thing

to point out in note here.

351

:

Is look at verse 18.

352

:

If I had a cherished iniquity in my

heart, the Lord would not have listened.

353

:

Uh, this is something that we

will talk about quite often in

354

:

counseling situations that sin can

actually hinder our prayer life.

355

:

If you think about first Peter three,

seven husbands are commanded there

356

:

to love their wives and live with

them in an understanding manner lest

357

:

their prayers should be hindered.

358

:

And it's not just about how a

husband interacts with a wife.

359

:

I think the under guiding principle.

360

:

That we see here as well in Psalm 66 18.

361

:

Is that when we are.

362

:

When we were harboring sin when

we are cultivating sin in our

363

:

life, and then coming before the

course of the Lord and praying.

364

:

That there is a hindrance that, that

the Lord will oftentimes choose not to

365

:

respond to our prayers because of that

sin that we're harboring in our life.

366

:

There's not a separation and a severing

of the relationship completely.

367

:

But man, there's an interruption

of fellowship that has.

368

:

Significantly negative

consequences for us.

369

:

Indeed in this,

370

:

Rod (2): it reminds us as Christians

to keep a clean conscience, to

371

:

keep short accounts with the Lord.

372

:

Yeah, because none of us, I'm sure

if you're reading this, you're like,

373

:

man, I've cherished into my heart.

374

:

I've committed sin.

375

:

I've thought sinful thoughts.

376

:

And I've had this, this, you

know, irritation and aggravation.

377

:

We all know what it's like to

struggle with sin and to bear the

378

:

marks of iniquity still in our flesh.

379

:

Uh, this doesn't mean that we have to

be perfect before God, certainly not.

380

:

None of us would, would succeed at that.

381

:

But as new Testament, Christians,

those who are regenerate, we can

382

:

have a clean and pure conscience

before the Lord by keeping short

383

:

accounts, not cherishing inequity,

but confessing iniquity, and allowing

384

:

them for there to be clear channels of

communication between us and the Lord.

385

:

PJ: Psalm 67 then is a prayer

for the universal worship of God.

386

:

Uh, there's some thought that it's

connected potentially back to Genesis

387

:

12, one through three, which is the

Abrahamic covenant as a reflection

388

:

of God's promises made to Abraham

there that through you will all the

389

:

families of the earth be blessed.

390

:

Uh, so this is a Psalm that is

focused on a call to acknowledge

391

:

God, let the peoples praise you.

392

:

Let the peoples, let the nations

be glad and sing for joy.

393

:

Again, going back to the

nations will be blessed.

394

:

Verse five, the repetition there,

let the peoples praise you.

395

:

And so this is a, a simple song calling

for the universal worship of God.

396

:

Something that won't be realized really

until, uh, the millennial kingdom.

397

:

I mean, there will be an, an aspect

of that during the millennial kingdom,

398

:

then not everyone in the millennial

kingdom is going to be saved.

399

:

Not everybody born in the millennial

kingdom will be believers.

400

:

Um, but there will be that first

time of Christ ruling here on earth.

401

:

And there's going to be a sense in

which everyone is worshiping God.

402

:

Right.

403

:

In part in that during that season.

404

:

As you pray

405

:

Rod (2): for your church.

406

:

I mean, I would love for you

to take the bare bones of

407

:

this Psalm and pray it for us.

408

:

Uh, you could pray it like this God

bless compass Bible church so that we can

409

:

bless the world so that we can bless our

communities so that we can bless north

410

:

Texas with the gospel, make us fruitful so

that fruit may have bound to your glory.

411

:

And honor, I mean, that's really

the heartbeat of this song, and

412

:

that would be a great thing for

you to pray for your church, even

413

:

if it's not compass north, Texas.

414

:

PJ: Yeah.

415

:

Yes.

416

:

And amen to that.

417

:

Psalm 69 then is a Psalm of David

when he was in a position of being

418

:

desperate in suffering greatly.

419

:

Uh, verses one through three,

you get the plight of David.

420

:

He is describing his situation.

421

:

I sink in deep mire.

422

:

There's no foothold.

423

:

In other words, the idea there

is he is continually sinking.

424

:

There's nothing for him to

reach out and stop himself.

425

:

All right.

426

:

So it's, it's a desperation

there of what's going on.

427

:

Then in verses four through 12, we get the

cause of his suffering and he says here.

428

:

Essentially that he's

bearing the reproach of God.

429

:

Um, verse nine.

430

:

Uh, some 69, 9 we read for zeal for your

house has consumed me the reproaches of

431

:

those who approach you have fallen on me.

432

:

And so that's that idea,

the approach of God.

433

:

And that's quoted in John

chapter two, verse 17, where

434

:

Jesus goes in and cleanses.

435

:

Uh, the temple and you've

got that situation there.

436

:

And the disciples remembers is

you'll for your house has consumed

437

:

me, but David is St meant.

438

:

My, my relationship with God

has led to, uh, suffering has

439

:

led to persecution, has led to.

440

:

Uh, where I find myself right now.

441

:

And we, again, we don't know, like so

many of the songs, we don't know the exact

442

:

context here, but we do know that David

was often suffering, running for his life.

443

:

Uh, verses 13 through 18, then we get the

hope of David is, as he's hoping in the

444

:

Lord, he's hoping that this will work out

for his deliverance, answering your Lord

445

:

verse 16 for your steadfast love is good.

446

:

And so God's.

447

:

Uh, steadfast love being his confidence,

his hope his, his, his faithfulness,

448

:

or his, his, uh, his trust in this.

449

:

And then in 19 through 21, Uh,

again, this concept of reproach.

450

:

The suffering of David,

the mockery of David.

451

:

Uh, verse 21 for, they

gave me sour wine to drink.

452

:

This is pointing to and

alluding to the crossword.

453

:

Jesus was also given sour wine.

454

:

While on the cross and suffering there.

455

:

Uh, some 20 69, 22

through 28, David, please.

456

:

And ask God for revenge

against his enemies.

457

:

There.

458

:

And then the Psalm ends in verses

29 through 36 with a confidence

459

:

in that future deliverance.

460

:

So David runs the gamut here.

461

:

I mean, he is in a tough spot, tight spot.

462

:

Uh, but ultimately he's trusting God.

463

:

And that's the theme of this song

so much as it is in so many of the

464

:

other songs where we find even in a

similar situation, You'll probably

465

:

notice too, that there's a lot of

466

:

Rod (2): cross-references from

this Psalm to the new Testament.

467

:

You.

468

:

You identified several of them.

469

:

One of the things that you should know

is that, I mean, this is their Bible.

470

:

The old Testament was the Bible

of the new Testament saints until

471

:

the new Testament was written.

472

:

That's how important this is.

473

:

This is why it's important

for even new Testament.

474

:

Christians, not to just spend time

on the books that are natural and

475

:

easy for us to understand like

Galatians or Ephesians or yeah.

476

:

You know, one of the, the epistles.

477

:

These things are so important.

478

:

And so many Christians don't spend

time here because they're going to be

479

:

harder to understand, and you have to

do a little more digging to get some

480

:

application for new for, for your

life today, but this is worth it.

481

:

The new Testament saints relied upon

these passages to inform their new

482

:

Testament theology, and even to have them.

483

:

Uh, as a spirit would have it to

write the new Testament so that

484

:

their theology would fit this.

485

:

So keep this in mind.

486

:

These are, this is good for

487

:

PJ: you.

488

:

This is so good.

489

:

I'm glad you're in it.

490

:

Yep.

491

:

Yeah, well, some 70 then our

final, some of the day, this is

492

:

a Psalm of David and again, and

it was a prayer for deliverance.

493

:

Um, and it's almost an exact repetition

of Psalm 40 verses 13 through 17.

494

:

And so there's a lot of

parallels here, uh, which David's

495

:

allowed to plagiarize himself.

496

:

That that was permissible.

497

:

So.

498

:

Um, yeah, so he's revisiting

a lot of the stuff cancel.

499

:

Is there?

500

:

Yeah.

501

:

Don't don't throw them out.

502

:

First one though, prayer for deliverance

verses two through three per that

503

:

God would defeat David's enemies.

504

:

A verse for hope and salvation

of the Lord in verse five.

505

:

Uh, just a confession of his need for God.

506

:

So a short Psalm, again, repetition

of Psalm 40 verses 13 through 17.

507

:

But a good focus on the

need for DOD to deliver.

508

:

And man, thank

509

:

Rod (2): you God for

delivering us with great moms.

510

:

We are grateful to have those moms

and grateful that we get to be

511

:

part of a church with those moms.

512

:

My mom's.

513

:

We love you guys.

514

:

And we are thankful for each of, you

know, we hope that you can have a great

515

:

mother's day and a great day at church,

but a great way to celebrate mom's day.

516

:

By going to church and don't miss that.

517

:

Amen.

518

:

Yup.

519

:

Yup.

520

:

So happy mother's day.

521

:

And we will be back again tomorrow

with another episode of the daily Bible

522

:

PJ: podcast.

523

:

We'll see you then.

524

:

Bye.
