Speaker:

You're listening to episode 36 of

burning brightly, the gift of choice.

2

:

In today's episode, we are going to be

talking about one of, if not, the greatest

3

:

gift that we are given as human beings.

4

:

And that is the gift of

being able to choose.

5

:

Now, we've got to back up a little

bit and talk about some core tenants

6

:

of Christianity, specifically my

faith and I'm sure most Christians

7

:

out there is that we believe we

lived before this earth life.

8

:

Right.

9

:

We lived before we'll live again.

10

:

After that living here on earth is

just a small portion of our existence.

11

:

And the main thing to understand about

the life that came before this life.

12

:

Was that there was a great conflict in it.

13

:

God wanted us to get, have the

chance to get bodies, to learn how to

14

:

choose right from wrong, how to make

mistakes and to see whether or not

15

:

we would choose him in the long run.

16

:

Now Satan, the enemy of

all of us didn't want this.

17

:

He wanted it to remove our power,

to choose and to force us all

18

:

to be good and return to God.

19

:

Now on the surface level,

that might sound great.

20

:

Some of us parents are like,

yeah, what's wrong with that?

21

:

Let's just force our kids to be good.

22

:

Then.

23

:

We don't have to suffer.

24

:

Nobody has to suffer.

25

:

It's all going to be great.

26

:

But of course that's not how it really

pans out in order for us to find

27

:

the greatest joy there has to be.

28

:

Uh, right in the wrong, there

has to be that dichotomy.

29

:

Good and bad light and dark.

30

:

We talked about this

in a previous episode.

31

:

Now, obviously in this pre earth

battle God one, cause he always will.

32

:

But unfortunately we lost some of our

brothers and sisters in the process.

33

:

In fact, I'm just

reading in revelation 12.

34

:

It talks about this in

some really colorful.

35

:

Symbolic language.

36

:

It talks about Satan being the dragon.

37

:

And it talks about this war in heaven.

38

:

Out of this dragon was cast out that

being Satan right along with his angel.

39

:

So what do we learn from

the spiritual history?

40

:

Well, I think the most important thing

we learn is that God values our power

41

:

to choose more than anything else.

42

:

He was willing to let a huge

portion of his own children

43

:

follow the enemy of their souls.

44

:

Rather than forcing them to stay with him.

45

:

Like as a parent who just

let a kid leave home.

46

:

That is mind blowing to me that

instead of saying no, the best choice

47

:

for you is to stay here with me.

48

:

He was willing to let them go

and make that mistake because the

49

:

power to choose was so important.

50

:

And we're talking about the

God of the universe here.

51

:

He has the power over anything and

everything he can make or unmake

52

:

anything he wants to, he absolutely

had the power to force them.

53

:

But he didn't.

54

:

Isn't that fascinating.

55

:

He will never mess with our

agency or that power to choose.

56

:

Why.

57

:

Why is that so important?

58

:

We're going to dive a little bit

into that and talk specifically about

59

:

how it affects us in our businesses.

60

:

So what does this power to choose?

61

:

Mean for us in our day-to-day lives.

62

:

Well, if agency.

63

:

Is our greatest gift.

64

:

Then I would argue it's also

our greatest responsibility.

65

:

With great power comes.

66

:

Great responsibility, right.

67

:

Superman new it.

68

:

We have to know it too.

69

:

Or was it Spiderman?

70

:

I think it was Spiderman anyway.

71

:

Those of us who choose God's plan

are the ones that are here on earth.

72

:

And it's important to realize

that Satan continues to fight.

73

:

Mercilessly against us to

make us relinquish that power.

74

:

Because as long as we have the

power to choose, we can choose God

75

:

over him and we can choose joy.

76

:

We can choose peace.

77

:

We can choose love.

78

:

We can choose all these good things

that God has taught us to choose.

79

:

But we have to hold

onto that power because

80

:

because we also have the power to

relinquish that power to choose.

81

:

What does that look like?

82

:

Well, it looks like a

victim hood mentality.

83

:

Have you ever met somebody?

84

:

Who's like, what was me?

85

:

Everything bad happens to me.

86

:

There's nothing I can do about it.

87

:

That is a form of relinquishing

your power to choose.

88

:

Damaging or harming abusing.

89

:

Another person can actually

harm their power to choose.

90

:

Right?

91

:

If someone undergoes trauma at becomes

more difficult to make conscious

92

:

life choices, because they're dealing

with this damaged nervous system.

93

:

Addictions huge one.

94

:

When you were addicted to something

your power to choose is lessened.

95

:

If you don't believe me, eat a whole

bunch of sugar and then tell yourself

96

:

you're going to go off sugar for a month.

97

:

It's extremely difficult because your

addiction has programmed your body

98

:

and brain to crave and desire this

thing, even though, you know, it's not

99

:

good for you, same with any sort of.

100

:

Addictive substance and

addictive behaviors, scrolling

101

:

Instagram pornography.

102

:

Oversleeping over Netflixing anything

you derive a lot of pleasure from can

103

:

become an addictive behavior that then

makes it harder to step away from.

104

:

So it can be very easy for us to kind of

let go of this responsibility of choosing.

105

:

And just kind of flow along

with the tide of life.

106

:

We never plant our feet in the river

and stand up and say, wait, stop.

107

:

I want to choose differently.

108

:

Than how my life is going or how

everybody has expected me to choose.

109

:

Now think about middle

school for a minute.

110

:

This is Middle school is an excellent

albeit tragic example of the peer pressure

111

:

that we've all experienced in our youth.

112

:

It was so easy to just go along with

making fun of the nerdy kid, because

113

:

all the kids cool kids were doing it.

114

:

Or giving the teacher a hard

time to substitute a hard time.

115

:

It was so easy in a seventh grade to

cuss like a sailor because who'd even

116

:

cuss like a sailor in the seventh grade.

117

:

Later on, maybe we made different

choices, but it was so easy to just do

118

:

what everyone else was doing because

we hadn't yet formed this full.

119

:

Picture of ourselves and really

learn who we wanted to be and how

120

:

we wanted to stand up in life.

121

:

And we probably didn't have a lot of

courage yet, so we don't want to be the

122

:

middle school versions of ourselves.

123

:

We want to be willing to stand up

and say, this is the choice I want

124

:

and go boldly in that direction.

125

:

Because our true power.

126

:

Comes from exercising.

127

:

This agency.

128

:

Especially when it's

hard and inconvenient.

129

:

So I'm going to repeat

that little truth bomb.

130

:

Your true power comes from exercising

your agency, especially when it's hard.

131

:

I think we know that as adults,

the hard stuff tends to be

132

:

the stuff that's good for us.

133

:

The hard stuff tends to be the

things that are going to make

134

:

us grow and make us learn.

135

:

But it's so easy to just let go of that.

136

:

And just say, I'm just going to

do what's easy because I'm tired.

137

:

I'm old.

138

:

My kids yelled at me this week,

whatever, whatever our excuses are.

139

:

Right.

140

:

So.

141

:

What does this have to do with business?

142

:

Why does this power to choose so

important in regards to our business?

143

:

Well, it has everything to do

because as a business owner,

144

:

your choices run the whole show.

145

:

It's terrifying to think it's also very

empowering, but also very terrifying.

146

:

There is no boss to ask.

147

:

There is no CEO to check in with.

148

:

There is usually no partner to, to.

149

:

your ideas by your choices

run the entire thing.

150

:

And that can be paralyzing.

151

:

Especially when we realized that.

152

:

is no right and wrong choices to

most of the things we do in business.

153

:

When it comes to moral issues,

there's always a right and wrong.

154

:

Fidelity chastity honesty and

integrity, kindness, charity.

155

:

We know the right thing to do.

156

:

It's to be faithful to our spouse

is to be kind to the person who's

157

:

a little bit socially awkward.

158

:

Right?

159

:

We know those things.

160

:

But outside of moral issues.

161

:

I would say that a solid, I don't know,

80% of every other choice we make in life.

162

:

There's not a right way.

163

:

There's not a right way

for me to load my laundry.

164

:

Well, I might say there is, and my kids

do it wrong, but that's beside the point.

165

:

There's not a right way

to run your Facebook ads.

166

:

There's not a right way.

167

:

choose the niche you want to target.

168

:

There's not a right way to run a webinar.

169

:

There, there just isn't there's

a thousand different ways

170

:

and we still have to choose.

171

:

And it becomes incredibly difficult

when there is no right way, because.

172

:

Well for crying out loud.

173

:

I don't know what I want to choose.

174

:

I just want to be successful.

175

:

It's incredibly difficult to make

a choice when, you know, But there

176

:

are multiple quote unquote, right?

177

:

Ways to do it, right.

178

:

still have to make that choice

now in the grand scheme of things.

179

:

More choices really are quite simple.

180

:

If you know what God's commandments

are, you know, you want to follow him,

181

:

then it's fairly Chimp to choose to do.

182

:

So I'm not going to say it's easy.

183

:

Of course it's not easy.

184

:

This life is hard.

185

:

It's a test.

186

:

But it is simple to make that choice

and then to work towards that.

187

:

But choosing your business niche.

188

:

Or choosing a yearly goal for yourself.

189

:

Or choosing to put yourself out there

on social media and make a real,

190

:

that makes you feel uncomfortable.

191

:

That stuff is hard because most of the

time, that choice is not right or wrong.

192

:

It all depends on where you want to go.

193

:

Like the Cheshire cat says, right?

194

:

the right direction.

195

:

Well, depends on where you want to end up.

196

:

So first we have to make a

few decisions about where we

197

:

want our business to end up.

198

:

Roughly, because we don't know how

it's going to pan out and then make

199

:

choices in that general direction.

200

:

This is why it's so important

to understand this concept

201

:

within your business.

202

:

If your future self showed up today

and said, Hey, guess what, honey?

203

:

There is no right path.

204

:

Actually.

205

:

I don't think my future

self would call me honey.

206

:

That's really condescending.

207

:

She would say girlfriend.

208

:

There is no right path for you.

209

:

There is no correct market to corner.

210

:

There is no perfect Instagram post.

211

:

There is no ideal.

212

:

Coaching package.

213

:

But there is a choice that you

have to make for all of these,

214

:

and you cannot stall forever.

215

:

You have to choose, and

it can be paralyzing.

216

:

We overthink all these decisions.

217

:

What, what should I do?

218

:

Let me ask this expert.

219

:

Let me see what she's doing.

220

:

Let me ask my husband.

221

:

Let me ask my neighbor.

222

:

Let me ask this entrepreneur.

223

:

Let me just watch everybody.

224

:

Let me just do more research.

225

:

And that gets us nowhere, the watching and

the waiting and the waiting for somebody.

226

:

Uh, to tell us the right way to do it.

227

:

Is the slowest path to success.

228

:

It will never pan out that way.

229

:

We have to just make a choice.

230

:

In business, it's really easy

to put these choices off.

231

:

Sometimes we'll show up in our business.

232

:

And when we don't have a boss,

we just kind of pretend to work.

233

:

We do a lot of busy stuff, uploading

some podcasts or some social media posts.

234

:

a lot of webinars and trainings.

235

:

We'll read a lot of books.

236

:

We'll chat with other entrepreneurs,

maybe join a mastermind, but if we're

237

:

never making the hard decisions and

then taking action on those decisions.

238

:

In five years, your business will

be exactly where it is today.

239

:

Because you'll just have done

all this busy work that never

240

:

actually made a choice to point

you in one direction or another.

241

:

So, if this feels familiar to

you and you're like, yes, to

242

:

help me, help me make a choice.

243

:

There's three simple steps.

244

:

Are you ready for them?

245

:

Number one.

246

:

Except that there is no right

way to build your business.

247

:

There is no right way.

248

:

Let me say it again.

249

:

There is no right way

to build your business.

250

:

If you don't believe me.

251

:

Just hit.

252

:

rewind on this podcast and keep

listening until you believe me.

253

:

There's no right way.

254

:

Number two.

255

:

Choose the next step to the best of

your knowledge, the one you want to

256

:

do, the one that sounds like fun.

257

:

The one that is exciting.

258

:

The, when you're looking forward to.

259

:

And then number three,

take action on that step.

260

:

So, except there's no right way.

261

:

Choose your next step.

262

:

And then take action.

263

:

Your brain.

264

:

I guarantee is going to

rebel at step number one.

265

:

That's why I repeated it three times.

266

:

It wants to know the best way,

even if there's no right one.

267

:

Okay.

268

:

Okay.

269

:

You say.

270

:

There is no right way fine,

but what's the best way.

271

:

What's the way that this expert did it.

272

:

What's the way that

that millionaire did it.

273

:

What's the way that this person did it.

274

:

I'll tell you what, if you interviewed

20 millionaire, successful entrepreneurs,

275

:

about an ask them how they succeeded.

276

:

You will learn 20 different ways to

build a successful seven figure business.

277

:

Literally 20 different ways

because no one's path is the same.

278

:

Now that doesn't mean

there aren't some really.

279

:

strategies to learn.

280

:

That's a lot of what we talk

about on this podcast, right?

281

:

to find a cold lead, how to nurture

this lead, how to, how to close a sale.

282

:

Yes, there's great strategies

and tools you can learn.

283

:

But no one knows your business's

blueprint for success.

284

:

Why.

285

:

Because it hasn't been built yet.

286

:

There is no blueprint for your business

because your business isn't successful

287

:

yet, or maybe it is, but it's not quite

to the place where you want it to be.

288

:

You won't have the

blueprints until it's done.

289

:

I know that's maddening.

290

:

It makes me want to tear my hair out.

291

:

Sometimes I just want a plan

and I want to follow that plan.

292

:

But guess what?

293

:

The good news is you don't need them.

294

:

It's all in your brain and it will

come to you throughout the experience

295

:

that you put into your business.

296

:

Right now, let's say, for example,

you don't have any blueprint

297

:

for how to get your next client.

298

:

Well, you're going to

try a bunch of things.

299

:

You're going to try to get a

bunch of leads, a different way.

300

:

You're going to try to nurture

them a bunch of different ways.

301

:

You're gonna try to close some

sales, a bunch of different ways.

302

:

And when you get your next client,

you'll go, oh, that was the path.

303

:

And then guess what the client after that

will be easier because you'll already

304

:

know how it worked to get one client.

305

:

And then the third and the fourth and

the 10th client will be even easier

306

:

because you're going to start to create

some pathways that seem to work for you.

307

:

They work for your personality,

they work for your, the hours you're

308

:

willing to put into your business.

309

:

They

310

:

And you'll experience more flow

in your business as you put.

311

:

time and effort and, and

you see some successes.

312

:

But sitting around and waiting

for that plan to manifest.

313

:

We'll simply ensure that in five years,

you're exactly where you are today.

314

:

And we do not want that for ourselves.

315

:

So again, Number one, except

there is no right way.

316

:

There's not even a best way.

317

:

There's just your way.

318

:

Learn as much as you can from

the experts and then just go.

319

:

Number two, choose a way

to choose the next step.

320

:

And number three, take

action on that step.

321

:

I have a whole other podcast coming up.

322

:

About.

323

:

topic of there not being a best way

or a right way about how the experts

324

:

can not tell you how to build your

business because they haven't built your

325

:

business and your guys are gonna love it.

326

:

But this is a great place to

start, except there's no right way.

327

:

Choose a step anyway,

and then take action.

328

:

You guys have a wonderful Christmas.

329

:

weekend.

330

:

love you so much.

331

:

Thank you so much for listening.

332

:

Please leave a review.

333

:

If you haven't.

334

:

I so appreciate every lesson, but I

see will talk to you again next week.

335

:

Bye bye.
