[00:00:18] Intro: and renovating your home, there is a lot to know, though.

[:

[00:00:24] Intro: around the house.

[:

[00:00:40] Eric Goranson: And maybe what's coming up on Saturday. Hello, Caroline.

[:

[00:00:45] Eric Goranson: week? Oh man, it's been a good week. Had a little stormy weather here, which I love. I love it when we get. The wind and all that stuff. So it, uh, you know, a little bit of rain that we need out here on the west coast, but

[:

[00:01:00] Eric Goranson: coming through.

[:

[00:01:19] Caroline Blazovsky: It does though, we don't get that.

[:

[00:01:28] Eric Goranson: saw my truck last week

[:

[00:01:34] Eric Goranson: yet. Yeah. I mean, I'm looking out the window here and I got leaves on trees and where, you know, everything's.

[:

[00:01:44] Intro: yeah. Spring,

[:

[00:01:51] Caroline Blazovsky: pine cones, like, why is this like pine cone, proliferation season? I mean, there's million pine cones, just hanging from the tree.

[:

[00:02:05] Eric Goranson: I don't know, for me, they just never stopped fighting. You know, it's it's, it's, it's like it's 12 months of pine cone season at my house and

[:

[00:02:16] Caroline Blazovsky: pine cones.

[:

[00:02:21] Eric Goranson: So they're like three inches long. Maybe, you know, that's not too bad. Yeah. And they're about one inch wide, but we don't have pine trees, even though I call them pine cones are for cones. Technically, but yeah, they don't get big here. They just

[:

[00:02:42] Eric Goranson: more trees, right.

[:

[00:03:07] Eric Goranson: Like

[:

[00:03:11] Eric Goranson: Yep. Absolutely. When I, when I know that the Golan is super happy is when I look at it and go, man, I need to mow that a buttery four to five days to keep it looking good.

[:

[00:03:24] Caroline Blazovsky: you're on your, Hey, I'm going to give our listeners who, whoever listens to this podcast, you're going to get a secret tip. Greenworks is having a giveaway. Did you check this out? They're actually giving away a zero turn radius.

[:

[00:03:41] Caroline Blazovsky: I register. I already did. Um, I have a couple pseudo names in there.

[:

[00:03:46] Intro: catch me. I want that

[:

[00:03:52] Caroline Blazovsky: a bunch of side aside stuff too. Like not just, you know, I think we'd w they give you a choice. Like if you come in [00:04:00] second or third or something, you can get like a lawn, a weed leaf blower.

[:

[00:04:09] Eric Goranson: I liked those guys get out. I've done a lot of videos for, yeah. Not going to really do it anymore. They've changed to do their own marketing and stuff, I think. And, uh, so they're kind of doing their own promotions versus having people like me do videos and stuff anymore, but that's okay. I got, I got more lawn equipment than I ever needed.

[:

[00:04:39] Eric Goranson: see, I don't have enough lawn to need that. But, uh, and I don't want to store it. So I

[:

[00:04:50] Eric Goranson: please give me a frame.

[:

[00:05:05] Caroline Blazovsky: I think I've always had a storm door just because the storm doors been there. Not because I ever thought about, you know, that it was an option because it's constantly been there.

[:

[00:05:24] Intro: I just,

[:

[00:05:36] Eric Goranson: I think what I don't like is the inefficiency for me to go up, open it, hold it open. Open the next door. It's a giant

[:

[00:05:51] Eric Goranson: still got to go, man. It's not like I leave my door open so I can look out that. Cause my dogs would be like, Hey, new, shiny toy, and go [00:06:00] bust right through that.

[:

[00:06:04] Caroline Blazovsky: we do. And we also put the screened on, right. And we put the screen door in for all kinds of ventilation. Like when we cook, we like to have like, you know, just open everything up and air it out and have sliders from the front

[:

[00:06:18] Eric Goranson: So that's your fresh air intake then?

[:

[00:06:20] Caroline Blazovsky: Pretty much open up the front, let it all in, go to the back, got some sliders and we just open everything up, you know? Nice.

[:

[00:06:31] Caroline Blazovsky: Come right in

[:

[00:06:36] Intro: uh, bring it all.

[:

[00:06:43] Intro: Well, Merv,

[:

[00:06:45] Caroline Blazovsky: He hasn't met with her and for awhile,

[:

[00:06:49] Caroline Blazovsky: I love that jam.

[:

[00:06:58] Eric Goranson: Irv bringing in the [00:07:00] clean air,

[:

[00:07:12] Caroline Blazovsky: Yeah. So I called on Eric and I said luck. I'm thinking about these were the options we have on the east coast, a Larson verse and Anderson storm door. And so what, what truly is the difference?

[:

[00:07:30] Eric Goranson: Yeah. And then, so here's what happens. So if you look in my area, at least to now, you know, this stuff happens all across the country. When I walk into home Depot, I could have in Portland, Oregon, a completely different product that you see in, you know, Atlanta, Georgia, or, you know, upstate New York, you know what I mean?

[:

[00:08:17] Eric Goranson: And so

[:

[00:08:26] Eric Goranson: Yeah. You said Larson and Anderson were the two ones that you were doing, you know, and I could go on here and take the time and go into, like I do this sometimes is I'll jump on like home depot.com or lowes.com and then change my local store to another area.

[:

[00:09:12] Eric Goranson: You know, Larson has a really wide range. Anderson though has, uh, you know, they're much more customizable, right? So you can do a lot more to change up colors too, you know, how do you want it to work?

[:

[00:09:47] Caroline Blazovsky: So, you know, I don't know if that matters, but they both make that. I think they both make a full door with the screen.

[:

[00:10:13] Eric Goranson: And so I think that's where, but here's the difference though too. Now all of a sudden you go from, uh, you know, uh, an Anderson, you know, $300 door, then you can get up into a 400 or $450 door really quickly. Right.

[:

[00:10:36] Eric Goranson: It's depending it's, depending on what you're looking at, you know, one of the things that you and I were talking about. Um, that's a big deal is that you can get, you know, here's what I like about the Anderson and I'm just going to be really, I like where I can change out an order, the handle set that I like, because I want those metals to match.

[:

[00:11:12] Caroline Blazovsky: Me too. I don't like a mismatch

[:

[00:11:25] Eric Goranson: What I do like as well, is that like, for instance, with the Anderson, you can order that with. You know, like a low E glass and something else that's going to help you bring a little bit less of it gets direct sun, you know, I've had a door that was just like facing south, no overhang before I don't have that at this house, but that front door just take the beading.

[:

[00:12:08] Caroline Blazovsky: The only one, they put a lifetime warranty on where all of the doors from Anderson come with a lifetime warranty. And I want you to talk a little bit about lifetime warranty because I think it's a really big misconception people think it's going to last you forever. And there are definitely caveats to this.

[:

[00:12:49] Eric Goranson: It's so

[:

[00:13:09] Caroline Blazovsky: It's crazy. Yeah,

[:

[00:13:39] Caroline Blazovsky: You're seeing that too out there.

[:

[00:13:44] Caroline Blazovsky: Yeah. That's what I saw. And it was like 300 for the Anderson.

[:

[00:13:58] Eric Goranson: You know, so we're not [00:14:00] completely comparing apples to oranges. You know, we, we've got a little bit different grade here, so this is the best Larson. And to be honest, it looks like over at like home Depot, if you're going to order the best Anderson you've got to order, it's probably going to be a $400 or not a $540 door.

[:

[00:14:53] Eric Goranson: So I'm looking at that going yeah. 500 plus. And so, you know, [00:15:00] their warranty limited lifetime. So then I want to go in here and go, what does, that's the limited part of it? That's always the part. Now if I, let me, I'm going to, as we're talking here now, I'm going to go over here.

[:

[00:15:21] Caroline Blazovsky: It's confusing.

[:

[00:15:47] Eric Goranson: Um, your exclusive remedy is limited to the repair replacement of the defective product, except as set forth in the special coverage, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So you have to have your written proof of [00:16:00] purchase. So that they can prove that save everything now. And this is pretty common for almost everything you see out here in home improvement though.

[:

[00:16:33] Eric Goranson: Hmm. Think about that. So this is where they get you. And this happens on cabinetry too, and this is where it's. They things get discontinued. They only have so many parts in the they're not going to, it's not like Mila where the Mila stocks, like the last 30 years apart, all their stuff, you know, they're, those Germans are crazy that way.

[:

[00:17:08] Caroline Blazovsky: can either not making it period.

[:

[00:17:17] Eric Goranson: Cause that was a $20 part, which would be a really bad deal because you're not going to go buy that part someplace else. Or they're going to provide a partial reimbursement towards a replacement Larson product. So there's a chance they go, wow. You've had that thing for 30 years. We don't make that part anymore.

[:

[00:18:00] Eric Goranson: Um, so that's interesting, you know, if you look at some of these things, they're just very, a warranty does not cover normal wear and tear. Uh,

[:

[00:18:17] Eric Goranson: very big, I just used it to death. You had a hundred people coming in through that door, you know, it's wonderful determines

[:

[00:18:28] Eric Goranson: So wear and tear just because you bought it with a lifetime warranty does not mean it's defects in material and workmanship basically. And if they went, Hey, you got a good life out of that door. It's just worn out. There's no warranty. So if the weather stripping starts to wear out and fail, the finishes coming off, that is natural.

[:

[00:19:04] Intro: natural.

[:

[00:19:34] Eric Goranson: So it's interesting that the warranty does not really, you know, it does not cover slight imperfections.

[:

[00:19:55] Eric Goranson: You gotta be careful when you see on any product [00:20:00] limited lifetime warranty.

[:

[00:20:10] Caroline Blazovsky: be. It's important. It's totally

[:

[00:20:14] Eric Goranson: So be careful.

[:

[00:20:25] Caroline Blazovsky: Like I'm looking at an aluminum all full, full glass door. So it's going to be different depending on what kind of materials you get.

[:

[00:20:54] Eric Goranson: Oh, and by the way, you know, who owns Emco Anderson?[00:21:00]

[:

[00:21:18] Intro: Here you go,

[:

[00:21:32] Caroline Blazovsky: Larson or go with an Anderson.

[:

[00:21:35] Eric Goranson: pick the one you want. And if you buy a decent storm door, I'm sure it's going to go pick the door. You like pick the pretty one. If you buy a a hundred dollars storm door, it's not going to perform the same as a $300 storm door.

[:

[00:21:58] Intro: craziness.

[:

[00:22:09] Eric Goranson: Yeah, Anderson's good. I've always had good luck with their stuff.

[:

[00:22:14] Eric Goranson: so don't pay another a hundred dollars for the same warranty. You know, it's got to do fun, so it's gonna do fine. And that's the cool part of that. So, Caroline, what do we have coming up here on our next show? We've got dogs and decks, right?

[:

[00:22:36] Caroline Blazovsky: Yeah.

[:

[00:22:52] Caroline Blazovsky: Changed everything for me. This company has really changed the way I look at life.

[:

[00:22:58] Eric Goranson: amazing. Yeah, [00:23:00] that's a great one. Great new products. Something to talk about there and all that. And more coming up on around the house on Saturday. All right, Caroline, we've been rolling here. Go ahead to go. It is time to go. All right. Well, I'm Eric G and I'm Caroline B and you've been listening to around
