The courage becomes an orientation. But first you have to cross the threshold. This is your final Friday reset of the summer, and it is a good one.
On Tuesday we talked about intentional kindness in LGBTQ+ allyship, the Threshold Moment, and the question that changes everything: what if it could also be fun? Today Heather closes out the summer with your Friday Butterfly Effect, a few small tools to carry the courage, the joy, and the intention of this season straight into August and beyond.
In this episode you'll get:
* This week's word, threshold, and how to use it to notice the moments where courage is waiting for you
* A tiny action that names and honors your own Threshold Moment from this summer
* A micro-rebellion that brings joy back into the advocacy that has started to feel heavy
* One line to carry into August that will meet you at every threshold still to come
Press play for your final Friday reset of July and carry something bold into August.

At the heart of my work is a deep commitment to compassion, authenticity, and transformative allyship, especially for those navigating the complexities of parenting LGBTQ kids. Through this podcast, speaking, my writing, and the spaces I create, I help people unlearn bias, embrace their full humanity, and grow their capacity for courageous, compassionate connection.
For parents, allies, and those pioneering a way to lead with love and kindness, I’m here with true, messy, and heart-warming stories, real tools, and grounding support to help you move from fear to fierce, informed action.
Whether you’re listening in, working with me directly, or quietly taking it all in, I see you. And I’m so glad you’re part of this journey.

On Tuesday, we talked about intentional kindness and allyship.
Speaker A:We talked about what it actually means to show up on purpose with genuine love and truth.
Speaker A:And for the people who need you in their corner.
Speaker A:We talked about the threshold moment, that instant just on the other side of discomfort, where courage becomes action.
Speaker A:And we asked a question that I hope has been sitting with you all week.
Speaker A:What if it could also be fun?
Speaker A:Welcome to More Human, More Kind, the podcast for parents of LGBTQ kids and anyone trying to stay human in a world that keeps hardening.
Speaker A:I'm Heather Hester, and here we talk about fear, belonging, boundaries, courage, love, and what it means to protect what matters without losing yourself in the process.
Speaker A:Your child doesn't just need a parent who's informed.
Speaker A:They need a parent who is grounded and strong.
Speaker A:Let's take a breath and let's begin.
Speaker A:Today is the last Friday of July, the last butterfly effect before we head into August.
Speaker A:And I just want to close out this month this the same way we have lived it together, with something small and true and worth carrying forward.
Speaker A:This summer, we have talked about a lot of things.
Speaker A:We had Pride month in what it actually looked like this year.
Speaker A:We talked about kids coming home and the quiet evidence of what intentional family culture builds.
Speaker A:We talked about giving yourself permission to rest, about travel and the alertness that lives alongside that joy, the comparison trap and what lies underneath it.
Speaker A:And now this.
Speaker A:Courage, kindness, the threshold.
Speaker A:What I notice across all of this is one quiet threshold.
Speaker A:Read every single topic so far.
Speaker A:This summer has been about showing up for your kid, for yourself, for the community that needs you, and doing it with more intention, more joy, and more grace than fear.
Speaker A:That is not a small thing.
Speaker A:Before we get into your Friday tools and want to ask you something.
Speaker A:What has the summer taught you?
Speaker A:Not what did you accomplish, but what shifted for you, what settled, and what feels different for you now than it did in June.
Speaker A:And sit with that for a moment, because it matters.
Speaker A:So this is your Friday reset.
Speaker A:One small shift that can create a meaningful ripple.
Speaker A:Your word this week is threshold.
Speaker A:A threshold is a beginning, the place between what was and what is next.
Speaker A:You stand at one every single time you choose courage over comfort.
Speaker A:Every time you tell the truth, when silence would be easier.
Speaker A:Every time you show up for your kid in a way that costs you something.
Speaker A:This week, notice your thresholds, the small ones and the significant ones.
Speaker A:Notice when you are standing at one and notice what you do.
Speaker A:Your tiny action this week is to name your threshold moment, the one you have already crossed this summer, however small.
Speaker A:Write it down or say it out loud to someone you trust.
Speaker A:I spoke up when it would have been easier not to or I told the truth about who my kid is, their heart.
Speaker A:I stayed in a hard conversation instead of leaving it.
Speaker A:I walked into a room as myself without apologizing for it.
Speaker A:Whatever yours is, name it, own it.
Speaker A:That crossing matters.
Speaker A:Your micro rebellion this week is to ask yourself about one thing in your allyship that has started to feel heavy and asking what if this could also be fun again.
Speaker A:Not fun as in frivolous, but fun as in alive as in grateful as in I get to do this work with these people for this kid and that is something worth celebrating.
Speaker A:Let the question sit and see what shifts for you.
Speaker A:If you need something to carry into August, here it is.
Speaker A:The courage becomes an orientation.
Speaker A:Keep crossing.
Speaker A:Write it down on your 3 by 5 card and say it when the next threshold appears.
Speaker A:Because it will and you will be ready.
Speaker A:Thanks for coming and hanging out with me here today, for showing up every Tuesday and Friday, and for doing this work even when it is hard.
Speaker A:Especially when it is hard.
Speaker A:Send the link for the Panic to Plan guide to somebody you know who can really use it.
Speaker A:And until next time, keep becoming more human and more kind.
