Evo Terra:

Most successful podcasters don't make most of

Evo Terra:

their income from their podcast.

Evo Terra:

So why do successful people, from celebs to business leaders, keep

Evo Terra:

investing in their own podcasts?

Evo Terra:

Legitimacy and access.

Evo Terra:

Today's episode is brought to you by Gumball, the premiere

Evo Terra:

marketplace to easily and efficiently buy host-read podcast ads.

Evo Terra:

Gumball provides a transparent and modern buying platform, connecting great

Evo Terra:

podcasts with the best advertisers.

Evo Terra:

Gumball takes away all the logistical headaches for podcasters and advertisers

Evo Terra:

alike by managing inventory schedules, providing easy and consistent ad

Evo Terra:

script instructions, easy aircheck uploading, and ensuring payments

Evo Terra:

are made in a timely fashion.

Evo Terra:

Best of all, Gumball takes pride in offering the most podcaster friendly

Evo Terra:

terms as a standard, meaning more money flows directly to the podcaster.

Evo Terra:

As it should be!

Evo Terra:

If your show is pulling down more than 10,000 downloads per episode, you owe

Evo Terra:

it to yourself to talk to Gumball at Gumball.fm to see how they can help you

Evo Terra:

make even more money with your podcast.

Evo Terra:

That's Gumball.fm.

Evo Terra:

And tell 'em Evo sent you!

Evo Terra:

Hello, and welcome to another Podcast Pontifications with me, Evo Terra.

Evo Terra:

There is a perception that there are two types of podcasters; those

Evo Terra:

who make most, if not all, of their income from their podcast, and those

Evo Terra:

who make none, or very little, of their income from their podcast.

Evo Terra:

But that's not even close to accurate.

Evo Terra:

That's nowhere near reality.

Evo Terra:

That sort of false sorting, if you will, makes podcasters in the none

Evo Terra:

or very little income bucket wish for something - a full-time income from

Evo Terra:

their podcast - that for a lot of very successful podcasters doesn't exist.

Evo Terra:

Wishing for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, that doesn't live there.

Evo Terra:

It's something different.

Evo Terra:

For every successful podcaster I know who makes most, if not all, of their income

Evo Terra:

directly from their podcast - Hi, Jordan!

Evo Terra:

- I know a hundred successful podcasters who see very little

Evo Terra:

direct income from their podcast.

Evo Terra:

Yet those hundred more successful podcasters all credit their

Evo Terra:

podcast as being instrumental to their ongoing success.

Evo Terra:

Let's not forget what running a successful podcast brings to the podcaster.

Evo Terra:

It brings tangible benefits that are not just a lot more realistic than

Evo Terra:

that mythical pot of gold or pot of full-time income from podcasting.

Evo Terra:

And not just more realistic than that, but these tangible benefits,

Evo Terra:

I think, for many of us are better.

Evo Terra:

Don't forget your podcast can be an amazing calling card for your

Evo Terra:

business, that thing that you do.

Evo Terra:

That's what your podcast can be.

Evo Terra:

That's what many, I'm not going to say most, but many successful podcasters do.

Evo Terra:

Again, successful podcasters who do not see most of their income

Evo Terra:

coming directly from their podcasts, but are still very successful.

Evo Terra:

They're using their podcast, oftentimes, as a calling card, as a way to say,

Evo Terra:

this is me, this is the thing that I do.

Evo Terra:

That makes it better, I think, than some one sheet or even a headshot.

Evo Terra:

A podcast like that can be better than a six-minute explainer video.

Evo Terra:

I think, and remember, I'm a writer, I think it's better than a book.

Evo Terra:

Your podcast is, or at least it can be, better than those things, and more

Evo Terra:

of those things because your podcast is a live, updated, easily-consumed

Evo Terra:

media property that showcases you.

Evo Terra:

And you, oftentimes, are the main source of your income.

Evo Terra:

Podcasting can lend you what I would consider an outsized sense of legitimacy,

Evo Terra:

and I've seen many podcasters embrace this and understand this key notion

Evo Terra:

of the outsized sense of legitimacy having a podcast gives to them.

Evo Terra:

Your podcast, regardless of your audience size, don't think about that, the fact

Evo Terra:

that you have a podcast and you've had a podcast for a while, you're not just

Evo Terra:

starting, you've done this for a while.

Evo Terra:

That podcast, those episodes, give you that extra boost when

Evo Terra:

it comes to talking to people or organizations that you want to talk to.

Evo Terra:

Your podcast gives you media level credibility.

Evo Terra:

It wasn't always that way, but it's that way today.

Evo Terra:

Having a podcast, absolutely, will open up doors to you that other people will have a

Evo Terra:

much more difficult time getting through.

Evo Terra:

Just because you have a podcast that you're continuing to make,

Evo Terra:

that you pour your energy and effort into making it as good as you can.

Evo Terra:

Don't forget that.

Evo Terra:

Those tangible benefits are often much more valuable to you and to

Evo Terra:

your total income possibilities than any small ad campaign, an affiliate

Evo Terra:

deal, or a bundled service offering that you were pitched just this week.

Evo Terra:

Don't forget that.

Evo Terra:

Some quick Boostagrams!

Evo Terra:

Now it's time for the boost-the boost-the boost- Boostagram Corner.

Evo Terra:

Boostagram Corner.

Evo Terra:

I don't know a thing about crypto.

Evo Terra:

Thank you very much, Suzy Buttress, from the podcast The Casual Birder.

Evo Terra:

She kicked in a few virtual coffees to me and sent this message along:

Evo Terra:

"Always thought-provoking - thanks for helping us stay

Evo Terra:

focused on why we podcast."

Evo Terra:

Well, you are very welcome, Suzy.

Evo Terra:

Now, Suzy used BuyMeACoffee.com/evoterra, but there are lots of ways

Evo Terra:

that you can support the show.

Evo Terra:

Podcastpontifications.com/valueforvalue lists them all.

Evo Terra:

That's it.

Evo Terra:

I shall be back tomorrow with yet another Podcast Pontifications.

Evo Terra:
