You're listening to One Minute Podcast tips. I'm your host, Danny Brown, and each episode helps you be a better podcaster. Find all the latest episodes at oneminutepodcasttips.com or free wherever you get podcasts. And now this week's episode.

Danny:

A lot of times online I see the question as to whether you should be on social media with your podcast. And really, it's kind of a two part question: A) should you be on social media? and B) whereabout on social media? So for the first part, I would recommend having some kind of social media presence. It's another marketing channel for your podcast, but it's also a great way to meet fellow podcasters and learn what's worked for them when it comes to promoting their podcast as well as meeting potential listeners.

Danny:

I do recommend that you don't use social media purely as a promotional platform, though, so don't publish an episode and drop your links right away, and that's all you do. Use it as an education and conversational piece, so get to know people and other podcasters and listeners. Share tips about what you've done in your podcast, what's worked for you, and slowly but surely you'll gain awareness of your podcast, which will lead to listeners and recommendations. When it comes to what platforms you should be on, it comes down to your comfort level.

Danny:

I like Twitter, or at least I did like Twitter up until the last week or so. It's just kind of crazy. Anyway, I like Twitter because it's an easy conversational platform, quick punchy, answers back and forth, and it's not hard work. Facebook is a little bit different. It's got a different algorithm. If you're a business podcast then it makes sense to be on LinkedIn, for example. So it really comes down to a the kind of person and approach you want to be for your podcast, and the niches and the topics.

Danny:

But I wouldn't go on all the social media platforms or multiple platforms to start with, because that's going to stretch you thin and take away much needed time from somewhere else on your podcast. So start in one place that you feel really comfortable. Build that up, and if you feel you want to learn more, then you can expand to another platform or another. But always, always make it about the education and connection.
