In this episode we investigate the investigator as my resident astrologer, Tom McMullan, reads true crime podcasting star Ashley Flowers' chart. Tom reveals how celestial alignments influence individual choices and behaviors, particularly in the context of her career and personal relationships. Throughout this episode, we examine the intersection of astrology and the human experience, contemplating the extent to which our birth charts reflect the energies we bring into our lives and how these energies shape our destinies. The episode serves as an invitation for listeners to reflect on their own life journeys through the lens of astrology, encouraging a deeper understanding of the intrinsic connections between our past, present, and future. As the discussion unfolds, we uncover the transformative potential of acknowledging one's astrological influences, fostering a sense of empowerment and clarity for those seeking to navigate their paths with intention and insight. This is the second part of a two part episode.
Welcome to the Dead Life.
Speaker B:Here's world renowned medium Alison Dubois.
Speaker B:What do we have going on for you at the Dead Life today?
Speaker B:Well, we have a very special guest today.
Speaker B:Some of you might know her from the very popular podcast Crime Junkyaf.
Speaker B:The one and only Ashley Flowers.
Speaker B:Hello.
Speaker B:I also have your favorite astrologer Tom McMullen here to weigh in on this episode.
Speaker B:Ashley and I were talking about past lives recently and astrological readings.
Speaker B:She had never had her chart read.
Speaker B:So I introduced Ashley flowers to Tom McMullen to see what Tom would uncover in a crime junkie's birth chart.
Speaker B:So buckle up for what will prove to be an eye opening episode today.
Speaker B:So stay tuned to put to book a reading with me.
Speaker B:Email us@bookinglisondubois.com if you have a life reading for me and Sophia for my Love Me Love Me not segment.
Speaker B: -: Speaker B:If you want to watch past and present episodes of the Dead Life you can follow me on YouTube.
Speaker B:Please like and subscribe.
Speaker B:Go to Allison Dubois.com for more information about what I'm up to.
Speaker B:Tom gets so upset with me, so mad at me when I ask him to do that.
Speaker B:But I think it's interesting to be able to take a chart and see if you can recognize deviance in a chart and how much of it is will, will, free will and learned and how much of it is preconditioned energy that we came in with.
Speaker B:So that's why I had him run the charts.
Speaker B:I wanted to know what would they have looked like had they done something like ignoring their instinct to hunt.
Speaker B:What would their life had looked like then?
Speaker C:Have you ever done a really interesting one that you were like, oh, it would have been so different.
Speaker B:Well, I would say Ted Bundy.
Speaker A:Ted Bundy, Yeah, Ted Bundy was.
Speaker A:I get the sense that when someone comes in with really they come in a victim of very horrible things in their past, there's two choices.
Speaker A:One that can overcome them and become a, you know, a proponent for others who have gone through that or they stay the victim and they want to, you know, get the, get somebody back for it.
Speaker A:You know, that's like ingrained in them to repeat it.
Speaker B:So most of them have mommy issues, like severe.
Speaker A:That's why I don't like doing this, Ashley, because I go into their energy and I don't like going into that.
Speaker B:Space and absent fathers.
Speaker A:See, I can't stay objective in my readings.
Speaker A:I completely become in that person's energy.
Speaker B:Me too.
Speaker B:So Well, I know.
Speaker B:I mean, that's what we do.
Speaker A:That's what we do, so.
Speaker A:Because people go, well, how do you do that?
Speaker A:I go, I just do.
Speaker A:That's what I do.
Speaker A:I'm not a typical astrologer that's trying to analyze your chart, predict your future, even with the things going on right now, the changes that are going on.
Speaker A:I gave you the concept of what's going on and where it is in your career, and now you decide you're in charge of your destiny.
Speaker A:But what you know now about your past helps you make these decisions going forward.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker B:Does she not have water in her chart?
Speaker A:One element.
Speaker C:You said your water is super low.
Speaker C:You do not know how to flow.
Speaker A:She doesn't flow.
Speaker C:You're super tense.
Speaker A:Yeah, she's tense.
Speaker A:She's not flowing.
Speaker B:Do you agree, gravitate to water signs?
Speaker B:I'm just curious.
Speaker A:Not in your house.
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:Usually what you lack is what you'll start surrounding yourself with as energies because you draw from their energy.
Speaker C:I don't know signs well enough to know.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:I guess I have to go back to your office.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:But the thing we're weakened in elements is the thing we're personally working on in this lifetime.
Speaker A:And so I'm in your case.
Speaker A:I laugh because you picked an Aries as a husband who's going to push your buttons.
Speaker A:You see, so.
Speaker A:Because he just does what he does and you're like, okay, you'll hold it.
Speaker A:So you want to hold it, and I don't want you to.
Speaker A:But if you pick someone that's going to push you, like we were talking about how competitive.
Speaker B:He's an Aries.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:How competitive.
Speaker A:She's going to push because I said she has to win.
Speaker A:She's a Sagittarian.
Speaker A:And she says, if I know I'm not going to win, I won't even play.
Speaker A:I just have to win.
Speaker A:And I go, yeah.
Speaker A:So that's where you can really get intense with an Aries.
Speaker A:I like two fire signs together.
Speaker B:Watch them on the dance floor.
Speaker B:Hilarious.
Speaker A:Oh, yeah.
Speaker A:No, they're gonna be very good looking.
Speaker A:Hilarious.
Speaker B:You guys are so fun.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:But, you know, in her career, she's got Pluto moving into her house of career.
Speaker A:That's a huge shift in her life at 36 years old.
Speaker A:It happened starting about a year, year and a half ago.
Speaker A:So she's going through the big transformation of how to reorganize and how to grow her career.
Speaker A:So giving her that information and what she's been going through already and how she is with her husband.
Speaker A:And how they do this together as Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers is sort of like a helpful way of knowing where you are right now in your life.
Speaker B:Ren and Stimpy.
Speaker B:You went Ren and Stimpy together.
Speaker C:I like Bren and Sarah and Ginger.
Speaker B:And she's like, I like the prettier depiction.
Speaker B:Thank you very much.
Speaker A:Because you're good looking.
Speaker A:I don't know what your husband looks like, but it doesn't matter.
Speaker A:You're good looking.
Speaker B:She looks good looking, too.
Speaker B:Of course.
Speaker B:You didn't actually think Ashley would settle for less, did you?
Speaker A:No.
Speaker A:Tauruses are beauty snobs, like Libras and Aries.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker C:So I love that you said that about him.
Speaker C:I'll let him know.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Well, Aries and Libra are beauty Sno.
Speaker A:And Taurus is a beauty snob in a different way.
Speaker A:They're not concerned what other people think in their beauty.
Speaker A:They just exude earthly elegance, earthly energy.
Speaker A:And you very fit the profile of a double Taurus, right as I'm looking at you, because you're soft, you're curvy, your features are very beautiful.
Speaker A:Big eyes.
Speaker A:This is very typical of a Taurus.
Speaker B:She's very sag looking, too, though.
Speaker B:She looks like she could have been a runner or an athlete.
Speaker B:And that's such a Sagittarius trait with the legs.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Do you have strong legs?
Speaker C:Oh, yeah, I got fixed.
Speaker C:We always say that.
Speaker C:It's like me and my mom.
Speaker C:It's like the flowers trait or whatever.
Speaker B:The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Well, again, Taurus is a thick energy.
Speaker A:It's a solid energy.
Speaker A:That's why you have, what, 12 elements in Earth.
Speaker A:It's most of your energy, so your body carries that.
Speaker A:And then the Sagittarians are about hips and ankles.
Speaker A:So that's what you have to watch for, because they are athletes.
Speaker A:And, you know, a lot of tennis players, a lot of runners, a lot of people that are.
Speaker A:They're like.
Speaker A:They're in a lot.
Speaker A:I might laugh, because a lot of girls that have thick thighs are Sagittarius.
Speaker A:Because it's the.
Speaker A:It's.
Speaker A:It's the horse, it's the man on the horse, it's the centaur.
Speaker A:So that's the horse part of the body, which is the lower half.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Isn't it funny how signs have so wild.
Speaker B:They have physical attributes to them.
Speaker B:I think is so interesting.
Speaker C:So much sense, because.
Speaker C:And I might have told you this, Allison, I used to, when I worked at at the hospital out in Arizona.
Speaker C:I worked in orthopedics for a while.
Speaker C:And just from like, being in there for a couple of years and, like, I would, like, room the patients, but, like, I knew what they were there for.
Speaker C:And I had to look at their birthday every single time.
Speaker C:And I would.
Speaker C:I would start clustering the people, like, what they were there for by what month they were born in.
Speaker C:And everyone's like, I don't think you can.
Speaker C:I don't think that means anything.
Speaker C:And I was like, I don't know, man.
Speaker C:Everyone from October has, like, knee issues or whatever it was.
Speaker C:So it's like.
Speaker C:It' so wild that that's like, actually came from somewhere and I wasn't just, like, making shit up.
Speaker B:No, it's a thing.
Speaker B:It's a thing.
Speaker B:I noticed that too.
Speaker B:With signs.
Speaker B:I know you must as well.
Speaker B:Where you see certain signs exhibit particular characteristics.
Speaker B:And it just is what it is.
Speaker B:I had a guy look at me once.
Speaker B:We were at AZ88 as Evan Martinis, and it was Dish Nation.
Speaker B:He worked for Dish Nation.
Speaker B:And he goes, guess what?
Speaker B:I am like, I feel like doing that when I'm out having a martini with my girlfriend, Tara Hitchcock, but cool.
Speaker B:So I look at him and I said, you, eyes are close together and your nose is pointy.
Speaker B:So I guess you're Aries.
Speaker B:And he looked at me and he goes, oh, my God, I am Aries.
Speaker B:And then I looked at him and I said, is that your real nose?
Speaker B:And he was like, you bitch.
Speaker B:And I was like.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Aries is concerned about their image anyway.
Speaker A:Their actual.
Speaker A:Especially men and their face and their, well, hair is Leo.
Speaker A:But nonetheless, they're image conscious because it is the me, how I look and how I am in public.
Speaker A:And so I did a reading for quintessential Aries, who just was every physical part of him.
Speaker A:It was Robert Downey Jr.
Speaker A:And he is everything you just described in his face is little beady eyes close together, very sharp thing.
Speaker A:He's short, and he's just.
Speaker A:It's like a mosquito on crack.
Speaker A:That man's energy just goes and goes and goes, you know?
Speaker A:So it was like his energy was so hyped because he was an Aries.
Speaker B:And that's why the only way he could settle down was to meet a Capricorn.
Speaker A:He asked and he married a Capricorn.
Speaker B:She grounds him.
Speaker A:She grounded him.
Speaker A:He married an Ernestine, which is why Allison's saying, you need some water in your life.
Speaker B:You need some water.
Speaker B:I'll send Sophia over.
Speaker A:I have no Earth.
Speaker A:No.
Speaker A:I have no Earth in my chart.
Speaker A:Zero.
Speaker A:And I was adopted to begin with, so that my bound.
Speaker A:And then I was adopted.
Speaker A:Parents really weren't there.
Speaker B:So he's looking for roots.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:In other words.
Speaker A:And I used to move every four or five years, which is constantly moving from one thing to another.
Speaker A:So my energy is all fire and air.
Speaker B:So people without earth in their chart would be looking for roots.
Speaker B:Like Joe's foundation.
Speaker B:He's looking for roots and found a moon in Taurus.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So what is your.
Speaker A:What was your takeaway after the reading?
Speaker A:What was.
Speaker A:What really stood out for you?
Speaker A:I'm curious.
Speaker C:I mean, I got obviously super latched onto this motherfucker who left me penniless.
Speaker A:Good.
Speaker A:It brought it to the surface.
Speaker B:I truly, like.
Speaker C:It sounds bananas.
Speaker C:Or maybe not to you guys, but I was like.
Speaker C:I was.
Speaker C:I, like, just was so mad for, like, three days.
Speaker C:And I felt like.
Speaker C:But I felt like I could put my anger, like, two.
Speaker C:Something.
Speaker B:Are you talking about the guy from the past life?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Well, he's dead now, so, like, we're good.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Have you had girlfriends that husbands cheated on them and left them and have any kind of reaction to it?
Speaker C:No, I haven't yet.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:She's still young.
Speaker B:Give her time.
Speaker A:Oh, I know.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Did you tell.
Speaker C:We still got time.
Speaker A:Did you.
Speaker A:Did you tell your husband, don't you ever leave me.
Speaker A:I'll kill you.
Speaker C:Yeah, I was like.
Speaker B:I came home and told him, like.
Speaker C:Everything, and it's just like.
Speaker C:Again, it's more of like.
Speaker C:And you said it in the call, like, this isn't anything new, but it's a lot of, like, validating.
Speaker A:It's validation.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:Because I even told my husband.
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker C:Like, you're like, we are in a really good place because we've got, like, a financial advisory firm that, like, helps manage, and we've all these people, like, watching our money and, like, with us and multiple checkpoints and whatever.
Speaker C:But even with all of that, I would always make this joke that, like, would get on my husband's nerves.
Speaker C:Like, anytime he would have me, like, sign a paper or whatever.
Speaker C:I'm like, you're not trying to, like, take everything and, like, leave me and run off?
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker C:And he's like.
Speaker C:He's like, this joke isn't funny after 13.
Speaker C:We've been together 13 years, and I.
Speaker C:And I was like, yeah, whatever.
Speaker C:I don't know.
Speaker A:It's your greatest.
Speaker A:Yeah, it's your greatest.
Speaker C:Trigger was younger.
Speaker C:Like, my mom always thought it was so Interesting because I would talk about my future and it was me and my kids and my career and like it never occurred to me that there would be a man there.
Speaker C:And she's like, it was just so like abnormal or not what she was seeing in like my friends or anything, they're all dream about their weddings and I'm like, well yeah, when I'm a lawyer and I have my two kids, my mom watches my kids and I'm perfectly happy.
Speaker C:So it was, it was, it was.
Speaker C:I felt like it just explained a lot of like the weird quirks I had or jokes I made for no reason.
Speaker B:It was, it was so fun.
Speaker B:I think it's important to anyone out there that is not sure why they are the way they are.
Speaker B:Maybe as a little kid even felt super misunderstood or born into the wrong family or like you were a grumpy old lady, but you were five.
Speaker B:But you could see it in the photographs, but you looked like you'd been here before.
Speaker B:I highly recommend a reading with Tom because it really does help to hear your story.
Speaker B:You mentioned so many things in the reading with me and you did the reading 20 years ago, but you mentioned so many things that told me that I was okay, that I was exactly the energy I was born to be and the fact that people didn't understand it was their problem.
Speaker B:And so hearing the reading and feeling understood on that soul level is just so valuable and it helps you to move forward.
Speaker B:Saying, I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be.
Speaker B:I'm going to keep being me.
Speaker B:I'm not changing for anyone.
Speaker B:It makes you stop questioning that little voice in your head that asks, is it me?
Speaker B:Is it me?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker C:And it's like, no.
Speaker C:It's there for a reason and it's to teach you something and you're supposed to get better and learn from it.
Speaker C:And I mean Tom said on the call, he's like, it's like 20 years of therapy in like an hour.
Speaker C:And that's really like what it feels like.
Speaker A:That's why I record it.
Speaker A:It's a lot.
Speaker A:No one can take notes.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:And I even, I like, I just going back to even the second time listening, I was just like, there was just so much there.
Speaker A:And I will tell you, the more you listen, the clearer it gets.
Speaker A:You're like, oh, there it is again.
Speaker A:There it is again.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah, that's.
Speaker A:I'm seeing the pattern.
Speaker A:I'm seeing the pattern.
Speaker B:Once you've had your birth chart looked at, do.
Speaker B:Would she get like a follow up reading In a year.
Speaker B:That's a projection of the year and what to expect in that year.
Speaker A:Because I tell them what she's going on right now with the business and other things.
Speaker A:And she's working on her independence right now because Uranus moved into her first house.
Speaker A:So these are the things she'll be aware of.
Speaker A:And so after a year, how it applies, where things are still.
Speaker A:Are still moving and how you can still move through your life.
Speaker A:It's a life path, so you're not.
Speaker A:This is the basis of the karma itself.
Speaker A:But then where are you in it?
Speaker A:What have you learned from it?
Speaker A:How have you changed based on that information?
Speaker A:And so, and so people do get back to me sometimes once a year.
Speaker A:Sometimes they're.
Speaker A:They're.
Speaker A:They're in it.
Speaker A:They don't need any more information.
Speaker A:It's like, I got this going now.
Speaker A:I know where.
Speaker A:It's like you said.
Speaker A:It's like I finally figure I'm okay, you know, I was validated and now I'm just going to be me.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:But then they forget it, a lot of them.
Speaker A:And then they go right back into, you know, doing it again.
Speaker A:And then they'll go, oh, I read the recording five years later, and it's like, yeah, I'm still doing that.
Speaker A:I'm like, okay, well, that's, you know, you didn't do anything with it.
Speaker B:It's sort of like you telling us what our tool chest encapsulates, like what it holds.
Speaker B:And you have to figure out how to best use those tools that you were born with to create whatever vision you have for your life to manifest that life with those tools.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:There's no judgment to any reading.
Speaker A:Because I always say in the begin, I'm no judge of this character.
Speaker A:You're the judge.
Speaker A:You're the one making the decisions, going through the story.
Speaker A:And you're writing your book.
Speaker A:Every day, you're changing pages.
Speaker B:You judge Dahmer a little bit.
Speaker A:Well, that was different.
Speaker A:When I'm doing a reading for somebody, I don't do that.
Speaker B:I'm kidding.
Speaker C:Is there, like, in your experience, how many times do people come back and try and fix.
Speaker C:Is there then your belief.
Speaker C:Is there an ultimate goal we're trying to get to, or are we just like, in this endless cycle, we're just.
Speaker B:Going to keep doing cycles of life?
Speaker A:I think she's.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I mean, the thing is, is that people thinking, we're going to get this done and be done, we're never done.
Speaker A:Because nothing ends.
Speaker A:There's no finite in the Universe, everything's an infinite, so we're constantly on a journey.
Speaker B:Let me ask you about that then, because I thought at 29 degrees, you get a piece out of the lifetimes.
Speaker B:Because I'm 29 degrees moon in Taurus.
Speaker B:I'm not coming back, remember?
Speaker A:Doesn't mean you're not coming back here, because you may not come here, but you'll go somewhere else.
Speaker B:Okay, that's the point.
Speaker B:But if I'm at the party up there, that's cool.
Speaker B:I just don't want to do this thing again.
Speaker A:Well, then you're not having a good time.
Speaker B:That's a lot.
Speaker B:No, I feel like I've completed everything that I've ever been here before.
Speaker A:Well, you became here to be a conduit to the two sides.
Speaker A:So once you do that, you'll want to.
Speaker A:There'll be something beyond the other side now.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:Maybe I get to become an angel.
Speaker A:Okay, well, you already part of your.
Speaker B:Work here already, so maybe I get elevated to angel status.
Speaker A:I have no problem coming back because I think how we leave is how we come back.
Speaker A:And I really like who I am and I like what I do in my soul.
Speaker A:The service I've chosen to do, it's a calling more in a career.
Speaker A:And I really enjoy all of it.
Speaker A:And I did graduate from the school, but I don't care what other people think.
Speaker A:So I'm in charge of my life.
Speaker A:So if I come back, I just want to do more of this in whatever form, format it takes.
Speaker A:Okay?
Speaker A:You see, that's true service.
Speaker B:I just watched a documentary on children with past lives, and let me just say this.
Speaker B:I saw a pattern of them coming back to do things that they hadn't gotten to do in a past life either.
Speaker B:They didn't have the relationship that they truly craved.
Speaker B:They came back to fall in love, which women always assume it's their path and it's not all women's path.
Speaker B:And I say that to all the young women out there.
Speaker B:Some of you are here to find your career and to hold your power.
Speaker B:That doesn't mean to repel men with your strength.
Speaker B:There's a balance to be struck here, and I think women hopefully are figuring that out now, because a lot of women are coming back for career stuff, I've noticed, or to close a loop somehow of something they didn't get in a past life.
Speaker B:They didn't get to have children, or they had a child and it died.
Speaker B:So they came back in this lifetime and they get to raise their child until the Natural death of themselves, the mother.
Speaker B:And that feels bad.
Speaker B:Like, it heals something in them.
Speaker B:So to me, I've seen a pattern in we come back until our life is fulfilled on all levels, in that we've done everything that our soul felt it needed to do.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:But see, if we're not living through our soul and we're just living through our personality, then the world runs us.
Speaker A:We don't run it.
Speaker B:Kim Kardashian.
Speaker B:Just kidding.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So when you're doing this, trying to.
Speaker C:Make enemies, I don't care.
Speaker B:I'm not coming back, whatever.
Speaker A:But doing soul work is the point of going.
Speaker A:When I say to a woman, what do you want?
Speaker A:They go, what do you mean, what do I want?
Speaker A:You know, because they're to serve everyone.
Speaker A:Well, you came in to serve others in, like, the upside down pyramid, where I'm here to serve everyone over me.
Speaker A:But there is no balance in terms of.
Speaker A:Yeah, you get to decide how you do that on your terms, which this lifetime you're doing.
Speaker A:You're like, I'm going to do this, but I'm going to do it this way.
Speaker A:I'm going to be in this field, and I'm going to use your gifts and your talents of your personality.
Speaker A:And your nature is not going to change.
Speaker A:Your nature is going to be what it is.
Speaker A:But it's in terms of service on your terms, not ours.
Speaker A:The personality is looking for outside of itself to tell us, what do you want me to be for you?
Speaker A:And you're like, no, it's my turn to tell you what I'm going to do for you.
Speaker A:That's the difference.
Speaker B:It's whatever your soul's journey is that you're going to do in this lifetime.
Speaker B:You became a mother.
Speaker B:You married the love of your life.
Speaker B:We have yet to see the rest of your life unfold.
Speaker B:But career box.
Speaker B:I think you could check that.
Speaker B:I think you got the adoration of people who you resonate with.
Speaker B:I find that important.
Speaker B:It's confirming in that, you know, what we're doing matters because it resonates with other people.
Speaker B:It makes a difference in lives.
Speaker B:I think you might end with a very fulfilling life.
Speaker B:I feel very fulfilled in my life.
Speaker B:I wouldn't want different children or a different husband or a different career.
Speaker B:And so I'm looking forward to haunting people and being on the other side and doing the fun stuff.
Speaker A:Oh, my God.
Speaker B:So can you tell my listeners about your show?
Speaker B:Because I know a lot of my listeners are very much into true crime.
Speaker B:True crime, yes.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:So the Company I run is audiocheck.
Speaker C:We've got a network of podcasts.
Speaker C:But the two shows that I host weekly are Crime Junkie, which I do with my best friend, who we have the exact same birthday, just different times.
Speaker B:Wow.
Speaker C:And her and I host, and we have a whole team now of reporters.
Speaker C:So we're, like, going out and finding cases that a lot of people aren't reporting on, getting really deep.
Speaker C:And then I also host a show called the Deck, which is based off of there's.
Speaker C:They would make decks of playing cards where every card would have a different case on it that's unsolved, and they would pass them out in prisons trying to get people to talk about them, get it into the right hands of someone who knows something.
Speaker C:And so every week we cover.
Speaker C:We do original reporting and cover a case on the Deck as well.
Speaker C:So those are the two shows I host weekly, but we've got a whole slate of shows, investigative shows, weekly shows.
Speaker C:I wrote one book.
Speaker C:I'm writing my second, but that's just fiction, novel, All Good People.
Speaker C:Here is my first one.
Speaker C:And then my second one was called the Missing Half.
Speaker C:And it's just.
Speaker C:It gets to be all the mystery with, like, the lowest possible stakes because it's not real.
Speaker C:And it's very fun.
Speaker A:I'm so glad you're doing that, because that's the creative side I want you to.
Speaker A:You get the water from.
Speaker A:Because that's where you get the water from is the creative side of the story.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Oh, yeah.
Speaker A:That means you can't analyze it, because I told you this.
Speaker A:I said, when you're doing something creative, it comes from the intuitive.
Speaker A:You feel it and you see it, and that's how you tell a story.
Speaker A:And so for you, it doesn't have to have an outcome out of analysis to some end result.
Speaker A:You get to take us on a journey with you through the character.
Speaker B:Is there a case?
Speaker C:It was interesting when you said that because.
Speaker C:Oh, go ahead.
Speaker B:I was going to say, go ahead and answer his question.
Speaker B:Then I'll ask you, because I don't want to ruin your train of thought.
Speaker C:Well, no, I was going to say when you talk about even writing.
Speaker C:But even in the.
Speaker C:The cases that we do, the episodes that I write of true crime, I'm having such a hard time because, you know, we're trying to train up all these.
Speaker C:We've got a whole team of reporters and writers, and I.
Speaker C:They're trying to get closer and closer to how I write.
Speaker C:And I still.
Speaker C:You told me.
Speaker C:I was like, I'LL edit things to death.
Speaker C:I'm still like, edit the scripts to death.
Speaker C:And I'm.
Speaker C:I'm trying to, like, tell, you know, we want.
Speaker C:They want to do all these workshops.
Speaker C:Like, how do you actually.
Speaker C:Like, how do you write the story?
Speaker C:What's the structure?
Speaker C:How do you decide?
Speaker C:And I'm like, I can't put it to words because truly, once I have consumed everything and answered all the questions in my brain, I just know how it's supposed to come out.
Speaker C:And I don't know how to explain that to anyone.
Speaker A:Intuition is knowing without knowing how.
Speaker A:You know, that's the definition.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:So I have a couple of just small questions.
Speaker B:One, when you look at a murder, do you ever have DNA tests run on Jane does from that county that they disappeared in over the years?
Speaker B:Because often they're in a drawer at the coroner's office or, you know, I want to.
Speaker C:This.
Speaker C:This is like, the frustrating part is like, so we'll make suggestions as we, like, work with.
Speaker C:Especially when we have the connection.
Speaker C:We work with law enforcement.
Speaker C:But, like, that's the frustrating part about being in the position we're in, is we can.
Speaker C:We can draw a lot of attention.
Speaker C:I've got.
Speaker C:I've got a team that can, like, work on a case for a year, and it's the only thing that they think about, whereas the detective is working on 20 cases or whatever.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker C:And so we'll see that.
Speaker C:But we can't actually do anything we like.
Speaker C:We don't have the investigative power to make any of it happen.
Speaker B:So the Jane.
Speaker C:I think.
Speaker B:I think the Jane Doe project.
Speaker B:And you'd have to, you know, check this out.
Speaker B:But I think they do.
Speaker B:People can pay and they will run.
Speaker C:Really.
Speaker B:They'll have the DNA run on the bones of a particular person found in a particular week on.
Speaker B:In an area at that time.
Speaker B:So you might reach out to the Jane Doe project.
Speaker B:Because I had wanted to work with them at one point, but they're afraid of what I do.
Speaker B:So I was like, I'd love to help you fundraise for this project, but I'm a medium, so I have barriers you don't have, so maybe that will work for you.
Speaker B:But I just thought that that makes a lot of sense.
Speaker B:There's a lot of bones and a lot of DNA that was collected on people who were unidentified remains that could break cases that.
Speaker B:That have just been sitting in drawers, cataloged in the police department or wherever they're held for decades.
Speaker B:And.
Speaker C:And we've done.
Speaker C:We've done some Work with the DNA Doe project, who works with law enforcement.
Speaker C:But you have to get like law enforcement on board to like submit it to them.
Speaker C:And usually that's not like trying to connect it, connect anything.
Speaker C:That's just.
Speaker C:We don't, we don't.
Speaker C:Haven't known who this person is for like 30 years.
Speaker C:But I'll definitely check this one out.
Speaker B:I think the Jane Doe project might be able to help you get through some of that red tape.
Speaker B:That would be really, really cool.
Speaker B:And last question.
Speaker B:Is there a case that haunts you?
Speaker C:There's so many cases that haunt me.
Speaker C:I don't everyone asks like if I have like one and I.
Speaker C:I don't.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker C:But I also have this like, weird ability to like, I can catalog.
Speaker C:If you talk to me about any case I've ever covered, I know every detail.
Speaker C:Like, it's not lost on me.
Speaker C:I know the names, I know the places.
Speaker C:I know like more than anything else.
Speaker C:And so like there.
Speaker C:I don't think there's like one that looms over me.
Speaker C:I mean, I think I'm in every.
Speaker C:Like, there will be like two or three cases that throughout the year I'm like, deep investigating, not just doing like a week episode on.
Speaker C:And so I think those are the ones that pop up the most.
Speaker C:But I mean, I'll think about an episode out of nowhere that I did three years ago.
Speaker B:I always had a propensity to save children.
Speaker B:It was the children's cases that I was the most drawn to.
Speaker C:I'm so drawn to children's cases and people, like, people don't want to listen to children's cases.
Speaker C:But I'm like, all the more reason I'm going to make you.
Speaker B:Well, it's weird because it's too real for people to listen to those cases, yet easier for us to be silent and watch them be sacrificed.
Speaker B:I don't understand that, but.
Speaker C:Well, it's like to me, it's like the stuff that you hear in the cases.
Speaker C:Like, it's like I always thought, you know, I always thought they were horrible.
Speaker C:And I get it.
Speaker C:I would people be like, well, once you have kids, it's worse.
Speaker C:And I'm like, it is worse.
Speaker C:It's so much worse because you picture your kid.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker C:But I'm like, if you don't talk about what happened and all the stuff that led up to it and like, how does anything ever.
Speaker B:Laws change if people don't get angry and yeah.
Speaker B:Want them the first time there's an offense, they don't get out again until it gets to that point, you're going to keep getting the repeat offenders out there committing these crimes.
Speaker B:It's really sad.
Speaker B:It's preventable.
Speaker C:But one of the cases that I'm, like, really deep into right now is actually one of the ones we'll do, our Mystery Weekend.
Speaker C:I want to have you look at because it's in Washington and it's unsolved.
Speaker C:We've been working on it for a while, and it's a very, very strange one.
Speaker C:I don't want to.
Speaker B:Washington's had a lot of killers.
Speaker B:Washington and California have a.
Speaker B:It's their justice system.
Speaker B:They've got a revolving door.
Speaker B:It's a real easy answer.
Speaker B:That's why California, I believe I was.
Speaker C:Blaming the woods and the weather.
Speaker A:Woods and the weather.
Speaker B:The statistic on California, back when I was living there several years, many years ago, actually, it was, you serve a fifth of your sentence, and most cases go cold within 72 hours in California, so they just get put on shelves.
Speaker B:So California, if you're gonna murder someone, that's the place to do it.
Speaker B:They don't have the resources for the cops.
Speaker B:And, you know, killers know these things.
Speaker A:This isn't a platform.
Speaker C:Everyone does now.
Speaker A:Tellers, where to go to do their job.
Speaker B:They already know.
Speaker B:They know.
Speaker B:Do you know how much jail mail I got when Medium was out?
Speaker B:I mean, a lot.
Speaker B:Oh, yeah, a lot.
Speaker B:It's all stamped from jail.
Speaker B:Jail mail.
Speaker A:She's a tough bride.
Speaker B:I am.
Speaker B:Yeah, I am.
Speaker B:Well, where can people find your podcast Crime?
Speaker B:Is it Crime Junkie or Crime Junkie af?
Speaker C:Both.
Speaker C:So Crime Junkie AF is episodes I'll do on Crime Junkie.
Speaker C:So Crime Junkie af, I'll interview people who have worked in the space or on a specific project.
Speaker C:Things that I'm just really interested in that, like John Bonet's dad case.
Speaker B:Like, John.
Speaker B:Oh, not a case like, like.
Speaker C:Well, yeah, but it could be related or it could be, like, someone like you who's, like, worked in the system.
Speaker C:And I've interviewed, like, people who've had, like, really cool jobs.
Speaker C:So Crime Junkie, a app, is really, like my, like, curiosity little subset of Crime Junkie when it's like, it's not one specific case we're talking about, but I'm, like, dying to talk about the information.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:That it was just kind of a different format.
Speaker C:And then Crime Junkie is where every single Monday, we're there with a new episode, and you can find it wherever you get your podcast.
Speaker B:I love that.
Speaker B:And I wanted to thank you for this water?
Speaker B:Oh, yes.
Speaker B:Did you get this open water?
Speaker B:Because I had it in your green room when I was in Indianapolis.
Speaker B:And I was like, that is the most delicious water I've ever had.
Speaker B:I know.
Speaker C:When you text me, I was like, I don't think I've ever asked anyone for a water brand, but I'm so in.
Speaker C:I'm glad you love it.
Speaker B:You know, I was like, microplastics, blah, blah, all that.
Speaker B:Now I've got aluminum.
Speaker B:I'm like, great, problem solved.
Speaker B:So thank you for that as well.
Speaker B:So open water.
Speaker B:Send Crime Junkie and the Dead Life.
Speaker B:More water, please.
