Shownotes

There are moments in life that split time into before and after, and this is one of them.

In today’s episode, Tom and I are recalling the Nebraska Ashby and Minor Fires. What stands out most during this time? The PEOPLE. Strangers were protecting each other and showing up simply because someone needed help. It’s humbling in a way that’s hard to explain, until you go through it!

But experiences like this don’t end when the fire is out. They stay with you and need to be processed (slowly and honestly). If there’s anything I’m holding onto right now, it’s the reminder that we are NOT meant to carry this alone!

In this episode, we cover:

  • The Ashby and Minor fires + their start just hours after we thought the worst had passed
  • Why survival mode takes over when in crisis
  • Why evacuating with kids, animals & uncertainty is never something you’re fully prepared for
  • Why fighting the fire vs. supporting from afar both carry weight in different ways
  • How time completely blurs during trauma
  • The power of community showing up in incredible ways
  • How strangers stepped in to protect homes, land, and lives
  • Why the impact doesn’t simply “end” when the fire is out
  • Why PTSD & nervous system responses are real (for adults and kids)
  • Getting support because you don’t have to carry something like this alone
