The fastest way to attract aligned podcast guests is to get crystal clear on your buckets.
Clarity creates magnetism. When you organize your themes into simple content buckets, it becomes obvious who should be in conversation with you and who should not. Use guest platforms, values-aligned communities, and referrals to find experts, then vet them for fit, value, and energy before you ever hit record.
Wrap up your process by sharing finished episodes generously, requesting interviews you appear on, and batching so you have options if a conversation is not a match. Do this consistently and you will grow through collaboration, not chance.

Good morning, beautiful souls.
Speaker A:Kim Parkinson here from Podcasting for Spiritual Women.
Speaker A:And today we're going to be talking about guesting and buckets, right?
Speaker A:So this is kind of like, how does guesting and buckets go together, Kim?
Speaker A:I don't understand.
Speaker A:Well, as you may or may not know, two episodes ago, 029, I had on guest Lori Baines.
Speaker A:She was my very first podcast guest.
Speaker A:And then last week, I had a implementation episode where I took Lori's offer and I implemented it.
Speaker A:I went through the entire offer that she had and, and did that offer and then delivered it to you.
Speaker A:So you knew that it was a value to you.
Speaker A:Now, if you haven't done, go ahead and go back and listen to that.
Speaker A:Lori has some really great information about branding and making it your values, your missions and all of those.
Speaker A:The strategy behind branding, not just the colors and all that.
Speaker A:And then in, again in 030, I went ahead and did that implementation, but here I am at 031 talking about guesting.
Speaker A:So if you can see a pattern here, had my guest did an implementation about that, and then now here I am doing a episode on guesting.
Speaker A:This is what I would consider a bucket.
Speaker A:So it is one topic, basically a guest of some type, and we are pulling them all together.
Speaker A:So realistically, I guess the episode on branding and then the implementation presentation was kind of one topic together.
Speaker A:But then now here I am tying all three of those together by having a guest bucket.
Speaker A:So that is what I mean by buckets.
Speaker A:When you are thinking about the different types of topics that you're offering, when you're thinking about the different topics and you put those topics in each one of their respective buckets, realistically it's topics into buckets.
Speaker A:If those buckets actually can be connected in some fashion, or if the topics inside of the buckets go together, perhaps it's a good time to have those go together in different episodes.
Speaker A:Now, how does this tie in with guesting?
Speaker A:Let's go bring this all back full circle.
Speaker A:Here you've got a topic and you want to talk about this topic.
Speaker A:But maybe you're not the expert in this topic.
Speaker A:Maybe you are and you want a different idea or a different direction on this topic.
Speaker A:So that is another opportunity for you there too.
Speaker A:So then you need to perhaps bring on an expert, bring on a guest to talk about that particular topic.
Speaker A:Whether you talk about the topic first and you follow up with the guest, or whether or not you have a guest first and then follow up with the topic, as I am doing here, it doesn't make any difference.
Speaker A:It's kind of just making sure that you kind of have an idea of how the cogs in the wheel work.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:How are these moving and flowing, and how are you bringing that experience and that value to your listener.
Speaker A:So the experience being whether or not they can learn from them the value of the teachings and something that's actionable for them as well.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:So hopefully you were able to kind of garner a little bit of interest or something that was thought provoking from the episode with Lori about branding.
Speaker A:And that maybe led you to say something about interesting.
Speaker A:This is her first guest on I wonder now how do I have guests on?
Speaker A:And how did she choose that guest first over any of the others?
Speaker A:Because here's another little tidbit that I would tell you that I broke the rule on, and that is I would have guests on my podcast that also have podcasts.
Speaker A:Typically, I will have guests on that I can say to them, can I be a guest on your podcast?
Speaker A:Or perhaps I've already been a guest on their podcast and I'm having them on in a future episode.
Speaker A:That is actually the best way, the best way to really grow your show in a guesting fashion.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:So there's lots of different ways to grow your show, of course, but that is a great way to grow your show in a guesting fashion.
Speaker A:So you could certainly go ahead and do all of your organic discoverability, as we've talked about in some of the past episodes, but then you can go right ahead and do some guesting.
Speaker A:And if that guest has a podcast already and they have something that is maybe a little bit more popular than yours or maybe more aligned, like they have an aligned audience that is aligned with your.
Speaker A:Your audience, then you can actually kind of borrow some of their listeners.
Speaker A:And by borrow, sometimes it means that they actually start listening on a regular basis, and sometimes it is just that they listen to a couple of episodes, and that's okay, too.
Speaker A:So whichever aligns with them, as long as you are bringing them value, your guests are bringing your listeners value, it's all going to work out.
Speaker A:But now here I said I broke that rule right away because Lori doesn't have a podcast.
Speaker A:And it's okay because the value and the information that Lori gave us was so much more valuable and something that I really felt like my listeners needed to hear.
Speaker A:Now, I've worked with a lot of different spiritual women, priestesses, light healers.
Speaker A:I've worked with women that do astrology.
Speaker A:I've worked with tarot card readers Oracle card readers.
Speaker A:I've worked with all of them, and I believe that many of them have done all of the pretty things.
Speaker A:Right, because we all love to do those pretty things, the fonts, the colors and everything.
Speaker A:But maybe we didn't do the hard earner work.
Speaker A:And so to me, I really felt like this was.
Speaker A:This was aligned.
Speaker A:Now I come to, how do you find aligned guests?
Speaker A:And that is super important here, right?
Speaker A:So once you have those buckets, that's kind of another important bit here.
Speaker A:Once you know what you're going to be talking about, then I really feel like you will be automatically guided to who you need to talk to for your guests.
Speaker A:So for instance, here, a couple of buckets that I have kind of set aside that I'm going to be talking about in the future will be about SEO and will be about sales.
Speaker A:Now, there'll be other pieces of those puzzles as well, or other.
Speaker A:Other buckets.
Speaker A:I have other buckets, but these two.
Speaker A:Specifically, I just wanted to let you know that I do have someone that I know would be happy to come on and talk about sales.
Speaker A:And I am currently looking for someone that would be a good fit for.
Speaker A:For talking about SEO.
Speaker A:I'm not an expert in either one of these particular areas.
Speaker A:I can talk about them, I can maybe give you some insights on them, but the expertise does not lie within me.
Speaker A:It lies within someone else.
Speaker A:And so I know that those two buckets are sitting there waiting for me to start to put out there to you guys.
Speaker A:And so having those guests will just allow me to bring you more information.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:So that's what that's all about.
Speaker A:Now, where am I going to find those guests?
Speaker A:So the first one I mentioned to you is a simple one.
Speaker A:The salesperson that I know, I've known her for many years.
Speaker A:We've worked together.
Speaker A:She's actually a client.
Speaker A:I'm a client of hers.
Speaker A:We are in a couple of different Facebook groups together.
Speaker A:She actually just voxered me right before this.
Speaker A:So I've been in talks with her for quite a while.
Speaker A: ugh a course that I bought in: Speaker A:In that course, she offered a short little course on sales, and I took that course on sales.
Speaker A:Then I bought her entire giant course on sales, and that's how we met.
Speaker A:That's.
Speaker A:That's kind of like the gist of it.
Speaker A:We fell apart from each other for a length of time, and then we came back together because there's no.
Speaker A:There's no.
Speaker A:There's no limitations on friendship.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:And so we've come back together this year.
Speaker A:And it has just been.
Speaker A:She's opened my eyes, I've hopefully opened her eyes.
Speaker A:And so it's just been a really great, great conversations that we've had, great working relationship that we've had.
Speaker A:Collaboration, connection, all of those things.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:And now the SEO expert.
Speaker A:So I already know who I'm going to talk to for the sales, but about the SEO, where am I going to find that person?
Speaker A:So there's a couple of different places I'm going to tell you about the easy ones, right?
Speaker A:So I belong to Pod Match.
Speaker A:I can certainly go on to podmatch and I can type in and tell them who I'm looking for and somebody's going to reach out.
Speaker A:They may not be aligned with me because they may be not are in the, you know, astrology space or they may not be in the spiritual space.
Speaker A:They may not have any idea what I'm talking about.
Speaker A:They're only talking about SEO, SEO.
Speaker A:And that's not going to work for my audience because that's not how my audience necessarily always thinks.
Speaker A:I need this person to have an idea of the types of SEO needed for Oracle cards, for tarot readers, for priestesses, for light healers.
Speaker A:So those people I need to keep in mind when I am thinking about that person.
Speaker A:So again, I could do Pod Match.
Speaker A:There's a couple of other ones that are out there.
Speaker A:Couple of these platforms other than PodMatch, which I belong to, are podcast guesting Matchmaker FM.
Speaker A:You can also find it in pod pitch.com guestmatch pro.
Speaker A:There's a couple of them.
Speaker A:Just type in as I just did here, find a podcast guest and you'll see a couple of different paid platforms.
Speaker A:Now, some of them do have free offers as well, but you know, to get the most really authentic and really great guest opportunities, it probably is something that you'll want to pay for.
Speaker A:There are a lot of different Facebook groups that do this as well, and they're a collaboration type community that will also allow you to find guests.
Speaker A:So let me see, I think there's find a guest, be a guest.
Speaker A:You know, like just type in podcast guesting into Facebook and you'll find all sorts of different groups that offer different types of guesting opportunities.
Speaker A:So after you have these opportunities, it might not be something that you want to work with, right?
Speaker A:So you may say to yourself, I definitely am not comfortable paying out right now.
Speaker A:I really just want to find this person organically.
Speaker A:Now, the best way to do this is through some type of a organization that you might belong to.
Speaker A:So whether or not that is a mastermind, or whether or not that is a networking group, or whether or not that is also a Facebook group that maybe you're.
Speaker A:It's just a personal Facebook group with a small amount of people in it that either you pay to play, which means that you pay a fee for, or you pay the coach and they allow you to have some type of a podcast guesting offer that you can put out there.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:So I do belong to a group such as this and I pay a yearly fee.
Speaker A:It's reasonable.
Speaker A:It's $50 a year and I'm allowed to go in there and say I'm looking for a guest for certain to certain topics and sometimes I'm connected to somebody and sometimes that person isn't in there right then, or sometimes that person doesn't have the time to talk.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:So those are a couple of opportunities.
Speaker A:Now you can also do this in free groups if you have the ability.
Speaker A:My offer here or my suggestion here is to not just put out there that you want a guest on whatever your topic is.
Speaker A:I would start with some type of a question to almost like vet that person first to make sure that the people that reply to you are actually somebody that might be a good fit.
Speaker A:Now, once you do find that person, you might want to then have a conversation with them in the dms.
Speaker A:You might want to have a conversation with them over email or even just a small brief zoom meeting with them or in person meeting if you're close enough to make sure that they really are the fit that you think they are.
Speaker A:Another thing that has happened, and it happens to me all the time, is I might meet somebody through networking and then realize that that person's a really great fit for a client of mine to have on as a podcast guest.
Speaker A:In that particular case, I can maybe give that information to my client or to someone I might know.
Speaker A:Sometimes I've done that too, where I'm like, you know, that person would be really great for your podcast and I just know that person too.
Speaker A:So I connect them if that's the case.
Speaker A:Sometimes I don't think.
Speaker A:I don't think they always have a conversation before.
Speaker A:I think they jump right into it.
Speaker A:And that's okay too, right?
Speaker A:It's okay.
Speaker A:It's just kind of a, you know, I know this person and I trust this person and then they know you and they thought you'd be a good fit.
Speaker A:So I'm going to connect with you and, you know, we don't have to do the whole, like, introduction.
Speaker A:Let's just, let's do that right beforehand and then have a little conversation.
Speaker A:So lots of great places to find guests.
Speaker A:It's just a matter of making sure that you vet them.
Speaker A:When you do, go ahead and vet them.
Speaker A:There's a couple of things that you can do.
Speaker A:Now, I've learned this from my sales coach.
Speaker A:I'm not going to lie here, but I usually will look people up.
Speaker A:First of all, on Perplexity IO, I'll go ahead and I'll just ask about that person.
Speaker A:See what Perplexity has.
Speaker A:See if they've done any other podcast interviews with anybody else.
Speaker A:Here's another little tip here.
Speaker A:If they have done other podcast interviews and maybe they've done something that also aligns with you after your podcast interview, don't be afraid to say to them, hey, I know you were on so and so's podcast.
Speaker A:Do you mind introducing me?
Speaker A:I would love to have that person on too.
Speaker A:Or I would love to see if I'd be a good fit on theirs.
Speaker A:Either way, you know, it's just like that other connection, right?
Speaker A:It's one person connecting to another.
Speaker A:Just think of us all as, like little DNA strands all connected together and whatnot, right?
Speaker A:So it's really just a great way to find another guest.
Speaker A:Another guest, Another guest.
Speaker A:But after you have done that, search on that person, you know, maybe go to their website, maybe look at some of their offers, make sure that they are who they say they are and that they can offer value.
Speaker A:Because the important part here to note is that you do not have to release that episode.
Speaker A:It is okay, I'm giving you permission right now to say scrap that episode.
Speaker A:It's just wasn't a good fit.
Speaker A:Maybe use it as a learning experience so you know who you don't want to talk to in the future.
Speaker A:And, you know, okay, I've had clients that have come to me after I've done editing of the episode and said, I'm not comfortable with that person.
Speaker A:That episode, I don't feel like it actually belonged in the bucket that I wanted it to belong into.
Speaker A:And I really feel like they kind of had their own agenda or they just weren't a good fit.
Speaker A:And that's okay.
Speaker A:That actually brings me to another little topic that I want to talk about here today, and that is after you've done the interview with the guest, do you share that episode?
Speaker A:And here's my thoughts on that.
Speaker A:Yes, share that episode with the guest.
Speaker A:Let the guest use that episode as they see fit, as well, because what is it going to do to you?
Speaker A:It's only going to bring more topic and more knowledge to you.
Speaker A:I mean, it only is going to benefit you for that person to have it.
Speaker A:And in the event, and I'm going to say suggest here, too, that if you guessed on other people's podcasts, and we'll.
Speaker A:We'll talk about guesting at a later time.
Speaker A:But if you guessed on other people's podcasts, I would even suggest that you ask them for the interview as well.
Speaker A:Because again, what if their podcast goes off the air?
Speaker A:That interview is gone forever.
Speaker A:Whereas if you are ask for it right up front, if they do go off the air, you can release it, or maybe you can release it on your podcast as well and say, hey, I was the guest on this podcast, and here it is, your listeners are going to listen to it.
Speaker A:And the odds that your listeners and their listeners are the same people, and even if you release them separately, different times, I mean, the goal is to combine your audiences a little.
Speaker A:But the crossover here is not hundreds or thousands of people.
Speaker A:Typically, it's maybe, you know, 10, 20% of your audience.
Speaker A:So think about that.
Speaker A:So ask for the interview, Offer the interview freely, and, you know, let them use it as they see fit.
Speaker A:Maybe they'll never use it, or maybe they will, and that's okay, too.
Speaker A:All right, so gone over a bunch of different things around podcast guesting today.
Speaker A:Where to find a podcast guest, how to find a podcast guest, do they fit in those buckets that you have, and are they an expert in their field?
Speaker A:Interview them if you want, or have a conversation via DM so you know who they are, look them up in perplexity, maybe do some research to see who exactly they are, what their offers are, and then again, share that interview after they're done and just, you know, make sure that they can use it, too, if they feel so inclined.
Speaker A:Whether or not you share the raw files or you share the finished episode, totally up to you.
Speaker A:I usually send them the finished episode, but that is, that's my, my choice, right?
Speaker A:Which is also going to lead me to say batching is a good thing, right?
Speaker A:Because if you batched and that guest didn't work out, you didn't release any of those episodes around that bucket yet.
Speaker A:And so then you can, you can find somebody else before they actually do go out.
Speaker A:So, all right, I've gone over a ton of stuff, and I typically only like to go over one or two things in every episode.
Speaker A:But this was about podcast guesting and Podcast guesting is huge.
Speaker A:It is a huge, huge, huge thing.
Speaker A:And there's so many different facets of it, so many different ways to go about doing it, so many ways to find people, so many different pieces to it.
Speaker A:They actually have people out there that will find you podcast guests.
Speaker A:You can actually hire an agency as well that will find you podcast guests.
Speaker A:They are pricey, I will tell you that.
Speaker A:So up to you.
Speaker A:Whether or not you want to do the legwork, or if you want to have somebody else do the legwork for you, there are agencies to do it for you as well.
