Foreign hello, and welcome to another episode of the Arise Women of God podcast.
I am your host, Tamara K. Anderson, and joining me today is the fabulous Wendy Christensen, who is my co founder of Women warriors of Light and also happens to be a licensed clinical social worker who's been practicing for over 30 years. And I am so excited to have her on today's show. As we talk about this amazing and well thought out question, why am I under spiritual attack?
Let's kick it off by starting in the third chapter of Genesis, so very back in the beginning of creation. And we're going to go to chapter three, verse 15. And this is right after the fall of Adam and Eve.
And it's where God looked at the serpent and declared an ancient law of opposition. And here he is talking to Eve. Listen to this. And I will put enmity between thee and the woman.
Enmity is like an opposition, and between thy seed and her seed it shall bruise thy head and thou shalt bruise his heel. So we see in this verse a great foreshadowing not only of Jesus Christ, but also of Satan against women and especially mothers.
Notice that God places baseline friction, the literal enmity or opposition between the adversary and women. You're not under attack because you are a weak mother or because you aren't doing enough.
You are under attack because you are a woman who is trying to bring light into this world. And the enemy is terrified of a righteous woman's capacity and influence, not only to her seed, but to all of God's children.
Wendy is now going to share how from a clinical and spiritual perspective, you see why mothers are targeted because they kind of hold the baseline blueprint for the entire household.
Wendi Christensen:But a mom tends to be in Most all cases, the hub of the home, right? We're the ones that are at the center of the home. Our moods do affect the people around us.
And so a lot of times what that means is we get to set the stage for the home and how it's run and how it's operated. We really are the CEOs of our home.
And sometimes we have to be careful because we can give and give and give so much as moms, which is a beautiful thing to do. And I actually think it's very symbolic of the Savior because he was very loving and very giving.
And I think motherhood is one of the most divine partnerships you can have, which we do address in the book because you get to, you get to in a way mirror the Savior in being able to be the one that gives so much and loves others and has compassion and serves others. We get to serve as he served.
And sometimes I think we feel we can easily feel drained, burned out, overwhelmed when things get really hard and really difficult.
And sometimes we can give so much, maybe even a little too much, to where we can get that burned out feeling and feel completely overwhelmed or even walk into a codependency.
And a codependency is kind of where you lose your sense of self and who you are and you become very dependent on other people or that self sacrificing because we're trying to control everything and we can't control everything. You're like the temperature gauge, but you can't control everything. Nor is it your job to control everything.
You're just going to set the temperature of the home and then everyone else gets to operate around that and see what they want to do and what they want to choose. But because of that, I think it's important for mothers to self regulate. And we might wonder, well, what does self regulate means?
And it's being in tune with your own feelings, your own emotions, who you are, kind of your own psychological authority of who you are and how you operate. And, and what that means is you're going to need to really be in tune with your own emotions and be your authority over you.
You have to learn to regulate you and heal your own maybe traumas or regulate your own emotions.
Tamara K. Anderson:So my friends, when we step out of that self regulation and let our stamina drop, we sometimes inadvertently leave the front gates wide open and unlocked. And the adversary watches for those exact moments when our physical and emotional armor feels thin.
Wendi Christensen:There's so many things out there that are vying for our attention, that want our attention, that are Trying to push us out. And when you think about all the negative stuff, right, all the negative opposition that's out there.
But if I'm arming my kids and I'm in this partnership with God, because really they're gods, I'm just the temporary, you know, I'm, I'm the nanny right now, taking care of my, of these beautiful children that are his. I want to, I want to prepare them and help them.
So that means I need to be centered, I need to be grounded, I need to do things to help me to be in the right place. And sometimes that's pausing and taking care of me. Because a lot of times as moms, we do serve and give and give and give and give.
And we get so burned out and so exhausted that we're the last ones. You're drained and you feel like you can't do what you need to do.
Tamara K. Anderson:Because our tendency is to burn ourselves out as women that when we get to that low point that Satan will kind of get his hook in us and drag us down because we're already exhausted and worn out emotionally and physically. And then that's when we have to recognize and we talk about these steps in our mother's spiritual defense guide.
You know, that, that once you know who you are and you partnered with God, that you need to start recognizing when the adversary attacks. And it's usually when you're tired, worn out, exhausted, you just don't have the bandwidth to handle the challenges that come.
And some for me, that's usually later at night.
Specific times of the month that we deal with as women, you know, it's when our emotions are more fragile, we don't feel as put together, we don't feel as strong. And so recognizing, that's when the adversary comes in and affects us.
And when he affects our kids when they're tired, it's late at night, you know, and we have these things that.
Wendi Christensen:Just fall apart our down.
Tamara K. Anderson:Satan waits until we are weak because he knows how devastating a mother's light is when she is strong. Wendy is now going to share how you can find this exact strategy across every stage of motherhood, starting from when a new baby enters the world.
Wendi Christensen:One of the things that I've seen and observed over the years is new moms are hit really hard. And it's because they're bringing this beautiful, brand new soul into the world.
And of course, Satan doesn't want it, doesn't want the mom to be able to serve and to do and to show up as she needs to and it's interesting to me. And I'm not saying that it's always like postpartum depression is always a result of this because depression can just be depression.
But I also see that Satan works so hard on brand new moms where they are exhausted and tired and overwhelmed and can I handle this? Can I do it? And almost this I'm going to fail if I don't do everything.
And I think that continues not even just a new mom, then it starts continuing throughout their lives. Right where Satan really attacks the mom because he knows we're the central figure of the home and that we really set the tone for the home.
So of course he's going to attack us.
Tamara K. Anderson:So the next time you look at spiritual warfare in your life and ask why me? I want you to remember the enemy is attacking you because you are the central tone setter of your your home.
He isn't wasting his ammunition on people who aren't a threat.
He is hitting you because you are a guardian and because your alignment with Jesus Christ makes you a danger to his kingdom of darkness and you have the authority to command him to depart in the name of Jesus Christ. Help you identify exactly where your defenses may be thin and reclaim your strength before the next late night attack.
