And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
Jesus. Matthew 6:7. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 6 of 30 Days on the Mount of Blessing, PT 2.
Why do you think God hears your prayers? Is it because of the words you use? The length of time you pray? The place you pray? The number of times you ask? The Bible verses you quote? The intensity of your prayers? The tone of your voice? The size of your donations? The faithfulness of your church attendance? Your patience with cranky co-workers? In fact, it’s none of these. Not a single one. Not even a million other reasons we might stack up. We ought to stop playing games with ourselves and God. Struggling to gain what we already have: his affection, his attention, his kindness, his love. We cannot increase his devotion to us. Period. We can only open our hearts to experience his devotion.
