Transcripts

Speaker A:

Hi.

Speaker A:

Welcome to the Hobo Soul podcast of road advice from the Bible and from me, Yvonne Pryn, someone who's a little further down the road of life.

Speaker A:

I'll talk to you every weekday for about five to 10 minutes, with periodic longer talks on serious Saturdays.

Speaker A:

Let's get started with our topic today, which is an introduction to the Hobo Souls podcast.

Speaker A:

All these and the passages been talking about Enoch, Noah, Abraham and Sarah died in faith, not having received their promises, but having seen them afar off.

Speaker A:

They were persuaded of them and embraced them and confessed they were just strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

Speaker A:

This is from Hebrews:

Speaker A:

When my nephew Jesse came up with the term Hobo soul, I was immediately reminded of this Bible verse and how it describes some of those who have gone before us in the Christian faith as strangers and pilgrims.

Speaker A:

The message translates them as transience.

Speaker A:

The apostle Peter has a similar description of us in mind when he says, I warn you as temporary residents and foreigners to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your souls.

Speaker A:

And even back in the Old Testament in Chronicles it says, we are here for only a moment.

Speaker A:

Visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us.

Speaker A:

Strangers and pilgrims, transients, visitors on this earth.

Speaker A:

Hobo souls, that's who we are, we who follow Jesus.

Speaker A:

That's why we so often don't feel at home.

Speaker A:

We're making our way through a world that's often contrary to how we think it should be.

Speaker A:

We want to belong and yet we often feel out of place.

Speaker A:

We want to love, yet we don't know how to connect or who to connect to.

Speaker A:

We face decisions and we don't know which way to take.

Speaker A:

Directions are needed now.

Speaker A:

Here's how I got the idea to use my nephew's label for this podcast and how I hope it can help give you some direction.

Speaker A:

When the hobos traveled the US during the Great Depression for direction, they had messages from the experience of those who'd gone before.

Speaker A:

The hobos that had recently gone that way would scratch on the foundations of homes and fence posts various symbols that had universal meanings.

Speaker A:

Some of them them told the other hobos.

Speaker A:

Fresh water, safe campsite work available.

Speaker A:

Catch train Here we have dozens of these messages of these sign messages, all created to help the hobos travel safely and survive.

Speaker A:

And two of them inspire this podcast.

Speaker A:

The first one is Good road to follow.

Speaker A:

The good road that I'll share with you is the one mapped out in the Bible.

Speaker A:

There are lots of roadmaps offered to navigate our world today, but only one that I found to be ultimately reliable and true.

Speaker A:

And that's God's word, the Bible.

Speaker A:

This isn't the podcast to go into all the reasons why you can trust the Bible, and it's reliable.

Speaker A:

And if you want.

Speaker A:

If you want the reasons and the history and all of that in absolutely excruciating detail, you can go to my website, www.bible805.com.

Speaker A:

And I've got blogs and books and lessons and all of that.

Speaker A:

But that's not what this podcast is.

Speaker A:

Each one of these podcasts are very short.

Speaker A:

It's going to open with a Bible verse that will inspire the content that follows.

Speaker A:

And the content itself, I trust, will all be based on Bible truth that I've gained from years of study and walking with Jesus.

Speaker A:

Which leads to the second sign that says, kind lady lives here.

Speaker A:

I was told my grandma had that mark on the foundation of her home in rural Nebraska during the Depression.

Speaker A:

Though she was very poor, her husband was institutionalized for over 30 years.

Speaker A:

She raised four children alone.

Speaker A:

She always shared what she had.

Speaker A:

Her love for people and faith in Jesus not only fed hobos during the depression, but were the primary inspirations for my life of faith.

Speaker A:

I love and follow Jesus.

Speaker A:

I want to live like him and represent him well, in large part because that's how I saw her live.

Speaker A:

I'm just a few steps ahead, and some quite a few steps ahead in the journey of life than those of you that I created this podcast for, and you know who you are.

Speaker A:

But in addition to my love and prayers, as are always with you, I want to share with you and all the other hobo souls who might listen the insights, lessons and challenges that I've learned following Jesus and obeying his word.

Speaker A:

Because doing that, and after trying all sorts of other trails and side roads, is truly the good road to follow.

Speaker A:

So join me, your fellow hobo soul, stranger and pilgrim, each weekday as we travel this road together.

Speaker A:

That's all for this podcast, for transcripts, links to related material, and much more to help you learn to know, trust, apply and teach the Bible, go to www.bible805.com for now, let me end with this benediction and prayer.

Speaker A:

May you walk each day surrounded by the gracious love of the Father, guided by the gentle wisdom of the Holy Spirit, and conscious of the astoundingly real presence of Jesus, who will walk with you until you're no more a hollow soul, no more a transient, wandering heart, but at home in the kingdom prepared for you with your God forever.

Speaker A:

Amen.
