You didn’t blow it.

You did the best you could—with what you had at the time.

Today’s episode is about grace. Grace for your past self, grace for today’s self, and grace for others. Because we’re all just trying our best. And sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is acknowledge that—and move forward.

Transcripts

Everyone is doing the best they can with what they have at the time. This applies to other people and it applies to yourself. When you look back and say, oh man, I really blew it. Were you doing the best you could with what you had at the time? They say, no, I could have pushed harder. Why didn't you push harder? I was tired. I was worn out. Well, that's what you had at the time. That's how much energy you had at the time. You didn't decide to give up. You gave it what you had. And you didn't have the will to push past that. That's just what you had and that's okay. I'm looking back at last week's morning motivations. I say, those were not my best. They weren't terrible. They were not my best. I feel great about this week's. Last week's, eh, less good. But you know what? They were the best I had at the time. With the energy I had, the motivation I had, the way things were going, that's what I could deliver that week. And I don't think they're bad. I think someone could listen to those. They could get a good impact from them. But if I listened to yesterday's, and I listened to one from a week before side by side, well, yesterday's was better. So, I was doing the best I could with what I had at the time. Give yourself this grace too. Is there something in the past that didn't go right? Maybe it wasn't good enough. Maybe it was really bad. Maybe it really failed. You were doing the best you could with what you had at the time. And the same thing now. Maybe today you're saying, I'm just not doing what I need to be doing today. You're doing the best you can with what you have at the time now. You may need to get more. Maybe the best you can do right now is rest, so tomorrow you can be better. And that's okay. Or maybe you just need to push it today, and that's what you're going to do. And that's okay. And one last thing. Give other people the same grace you give yourself. Because they are doing the best they can with what they have right now. And maybe see if there's ways you can give them more, so they can do even better. But give yourself and everyone else just a little bit more grace.
