Horses with pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID, formerly equine Cushing’s disease) can remain active and even competitive when the condition is well-managed, but owners should monitor exercise tolerance, muscle condition, and overall performance closely. Always work with your veterinarian to tailor exercise and monitor the horse’s response. In this Ask TheHorse Live excerpt Alex Bianco, DVM, Dipl. ACVIM, of the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, in St. Paul, describes how to manage PPID horses in work.
