We’re talking about a key decorating mistake many of us make on a regular basis. I’m Dan Hansen and this is a Minute at RepcoLite.

Decorating our homes,so that they copy successful designs done by our friends or by people on social media can be a big mistake. And here’s why: Your home should be a reflection of you–not someone else. It’s YOUR space. Working hard to duplicate the colors and patterns and style of someone else may look fine–but it’s not going to speak to you the same way that filling your home with your own likes and interests will.

Spaces in my home that we painted and decorated based on something we saw online or in a magazine have always felt strangely empty. I never knew what the problem was until I finally realized that what’s missing in those rooms is our tastes, our interests, our likes.

Our home should reflect us. Not someone else. We can draw inspiration from others, but at the end of the day we want our home to reflect us. We’ll be happier in the space and really, that’s what decorating is all about–creating a space you love to spend time in. I’m Dan Hansen and that’s a Minute at RepcoLite.
