Speaker:

Hey everybody, welcome back to another

edition of the daily bible podcast.

2

:

What's up?

3

:

Yo, hey valentine's day is coming up It

sure is just flash news flash warning

4

:

for our men folk out there What are

you hoping to get for valentine's day?

5

:

Yeah.

6

:

A knife pair of socks.

7

:

Sure.

8

:

New shirt.

9

:

Yeah.

10

:

Watch.

11

:

We've never been big Valentine's day.

12

:

People guys don't like love.

13

:

Yeah, exactly.

14

:

No, I don't want to be the obnoxious.

15

:

I've been the guy in the past.

16

:

It's like, I don't need a Hallmark

holiday to tell my wife I love her.

17

:

And we don't, but, but there's

nothing wrong with this one.

18

:

No.

19

:

If you need an excuse to go out

and take your wife out for a

20

:

date, then by all means go for it.

21

:

It's a good thing to do.

22

:

I think we always just.

23

:

We're not big on on crowds.

24

:

I'm not big on crowds.

25

:

I'm not big on like long waits

at restaurants and stuff.

26

:

So We fell into a habit of saying,

okay, when is Valentine's Day?

27

:

Let's go out and celebrate a couple

of days before a couple days after.

28

:

Oh, yeah.

29

:

We're all about that, right?

30

:

Because it's like, okay, we'll do

our Valentine's Day dinner a few

31

:

days after when nobody else is out.

32

:

Nothing special or significant

about the day itself.

33

:

Right?

34

:

Right.

35

:

So are you going to take

Kristen because everybody wants

36

:

to know to text your house?

37

:

You know, I do like it now.

38

:

I'm not, I'm not, I'm not mad at that, but

that's not going to be our favorite spot.

39

:

We really like Randy's.

40

:

Randy's is good.

41

:

We really enjoyed that.

42

:

And, and particularly

the jalapeno poppers.

43

:

I've not had that yet.

44

:

You got to try.

45

:

And there's one of the cheapest items

on the menu is eight bucks or something

46

:

like that, but they're delicious.

47

:

They're fresh jalapenos.

48

:

And so they have a kick that you

never experienced unless it's fresh.

49

:

It was great.

50

:

So we, I'd like to go there

again, if it's a possibility.

51

:

Fair enough.

52

:

Fair enough.

53

:

Yeah.

54

:

I mean, and I've been going to blue goose.

55

:

Yeah.

56

:

Yeah.

57

:

Yeah.

58

:

It's right at Eldorado in

between Maine and Eldorado.

59

:

Is that like a, is it a bar?

60

:

It totally is.

61

:

Yes.

62

:

Yes.

63

:

We've been going there and all

of our Presbyterian brothers and

64

:

sisters were raising a glass.

65

:

Do a Bible study.

66

:

No, it's a Mexican food restaurant,

but it's blue goose and cookie

67

:

society is right next door.

68

:

So it's like dinner.

69

:

Oh yeah.

70

:

I'm going to grab a cookie.

71

:

Yeah.

72

:

They're good cookies, man.

73

:

They are good cookies.

74

:

They are indeed.

75

:

Yeah.

76

:

Yeah.

77

:

So Valentine's day is coming up.

78

:

Just be aware of that, man.

79

:

If you need to order

something, order something.

80

:

If you need to make dinner

plans, make dinner plans.

81

:

Yeah.

82

:

And it's.

83

:

Good to go out of your way to do

something to show your wife, that

84

:

you love her and vice versa, to

show your husband that you love him.

85

:

It's just a good practice.

86

:

Even if it's, even if it happens to

be associated with the day that the

87

:

federal government says, Hey, we're

going to make this day a day of love.

88

:

Okay.

89

:

Whatever.

90

:

We don't need it, but it's a helpful

reminder that it's good to express love

91

:

and to showcase what a good mayor should

look like with or without the day.

92

:

That's fascinating.

93

:

You've now got me wondering what Trump's

going to do about Valentine's day.

94

:

And you said the federal government

has to, what is he going to,

95

:

what edict, what executive order,

what exile is he going to do?

96

:

Yeah, we'll see.

97

:

Oh man, anyways, let's jump into

our Bible reading for today.

98

:

Exodus 36, 37, 38.

99

:

I feel like I've read this before.

100

:

Yeah, I feel like we were

just talking about this.

101

:

Yeah.

102

:

Chapter 36, notice Bezalel and

Oholiab, they're here now and

103

:

they're going to get to work.

104

:

And so, do you think people

did that with him all the time?

105

:

Of course, even back in his day.

106

:

Yeah, what tune is that?

107

:

I don't even know what's the holy night.

108

:

Anyways, the people respond again

in just overwhelming generosity,

109

:

giving you the point that Moses

has to say enough, no more.

110

:

Yes, Lord, do it please.

111

:

And thank you Lord, calling it down.

112

:

So they've, they've got plenty

and Moses says that's enough.

113

:

We've got enough for the task at hand.

114

:

And that's just, I mean, one thing

that I've thought a lot about in

115

:

church planting and being a lead

pastor, and we've had conversations

116

:

just about this too, is.

117

:

Casting vision and Moses must've

been a great leader in doing this.

118

:

Because remember the people said to Moses,

we don't want to hear directly from God.

119

:

We want.

120

:

To hear from you let god speak

to you And then we'll hear

121

:

from you What god says to you?

122

:

And so moses is able to cast such a

vision in a picture for the worship of

123

:

god in the way God wants to be worshipped

that the people are willing to give

124

:

sacrificially and generously probably

a lot of what they They plumb plundered

125

:

from egypt on the way out, right?

126

:

Sure, as far as the gold and everything

else like that, but but moses is just

127

:

he's doing it, right He's telling

him this is what the vision is.

128

:

This is what we need to do

because God is worthy of this.

129

:

And the people respond.

130

:

They're like, here, here it

is to the point that Moses

131

:

has to say, okay, that's good.

132

:

We're good.

133

:

We've got enough.

134

:

And probably what's also on added to that,

in addition to what he's preaching and

135

:

communicating, which is funny, isn't it?

136

:

Because he was saying, look,

I'm not good with words, Lord.

137

:

And yet God uses him

for that very purpose.

138

:

But on top of that, it was also

Moses life that displayed the

139

:

reality of what they believed.

140

:

Such that in chapter 34, when

he comes down from Mount Sinai.

141

:

His face is shining to go back to

the conversation about God's glory

142

:

and how he's now reflecting that.

143

:

So they saw in him not only the truth

testified from his lips, but also

144

:

the truth testified from his life.

145

:

There was evidence of his relationship

with God that he was communicating with

146

:

the God of heaven, the God of earth.

147

:

And so they saw the reality of that.

148

:

They saw the authenticity and

they responded accordingly.

149

:

I think that's instructive

for pastors today.

150

:

A hundred percent.

151

:

Yeah.

152

:

Yeah.

153

:

It reminds me of the, the DC talk song.

154

:

What if I stumble?

155

:

What if I fall?

156

:

That came out back in the nineties.

157

:

I don't know that one.

158

:

There was a clip at the very beginning.

159

:

It was a quote from somebody.

160

:

I can't remember who the original

author is, but the quote was this,

161

:

the greatest single cause of atheism

in this world is Christians who

162

:

acknowledge God with their lips, but

denying by their lifestyle which is not

163

:

leadership per se, but just all of us.

164

:

And that's kind of what our charge

to the men was this past weekend.

165

:

Like all of you have something to lose

if you compromise on your integrity

166

:

on if you don't live above reproach.

167

:

So, okay, since you seem to know

all the things CCM why did Michael

168

:

Tate step down from the newsboys?

169

:

I did see that.

170

:

Speaking of DC talk.

171

:

Yeah.

172

:

I don't know it, but it seemed to

have shocked the newsboys because

173

:

they've released a couple of

statements trying to like, they're

174

:

trying to wrap our minds around this.

175

:

There's rumblings, there's

rumblings about some sin.

176

:

That's, you know, being threatened to be

revealed or it's going to be revealed.

177

:

And he's trying to get ahead of it

and try to keep the band out of it.

178

:

Which today it's a sad, it's sad to

say, well, okay, here we go again.

179

:

Maybe anyway, if you don't know about

that, no, no need to look it up.

180

:

That's like when you're like, Hey I've

got, I was going to tell you a secret,

181

:

but nevermind, I'm not going to throw you.

182

:

Wait, what?

183

:

Don't look at my Instagram.

184

:

If you don't want to know.

185

:

Everybody's asking me about

this and don't go here.

186

:

If you don't want to

know where I get this.

187

:

Hey, I just got a note from my wife.

188

:

My, my son is pitching right now.

189

:

Oh, cool.

190

:

Go Josh.

191

:

Go Josh hit a home run.

192

:

No, that's the opposite.

193

:

You know, we don't want

home runs right now.

194

:

That'd be bad.

195

:

I would bet anyways.

196

:

All right.

197

:

Exodus 37.

198

:

So 36, they're bringing

everything for the tabernacle.

199

:

And again, just that they're

bought in, they're all in and

200

:

it matches chapter 26, right?

201

:

It's 26 and 36.

202

:

So hopefully it's easy to remember.

203

:

That's good.

204

:

That's good.

205

:

Is it 27 and 37?

206

:

No.

207

:

Okay.

208

:

Well so 37 Bezalel is on the scene

here and he's going to make the

209

:

arc the table, the lamp stand.

210

:

And all of this is again, in

accordance with the instructions

211

:

God had provided to Moses.

212

:

So when we get to Hebrews

in like eight months.

213

:

Nine months, something around there.

214

:

They're going to talk about the writer

of Hebrews is going to talk about

215

:

the, the, as Moses, according to the

pattern Moses received on the mountain.

216

:

And that's kind of what we're

talking about here in there.

217

:

He's talking about the better tabernacle,

the better sanctuary, but here we're

218

:

seeing the literal one where Moses

was shown, this is how it should be.

219

:

This is what it should look like.

220

:

And that's something that I've always

wondered, okay, is this God saying

221

:

Visually to Moses this what it is or

just simply verbally telling Moses.

222

:

This is what it is I mean was there

a picture of this that Moses had

223

:

to be able to come back and try to

Recreate that verbally himself or was

224

:

this just all it's like how do you

prefer to put IKEA furniture together?

225

:

Do you like the verbal written

instructions or do you like the pictures?

226

:

I'm a pictures guy pictures are helpful.

227

:

Oh pictures for sure Yeah

Yeah, that's a good question.

228

:

I've never thought about it that way,

but I've always assumed It was God just

229

:

speaking to him telling him this this

and this right and then the artistic

230

:

freedom was given to Bezalel and Aholiab

But it says in Hebrews according to the

231

:

pattern that was shown to him on the

mountain and does shown necessarily mean

232

:

Visually could not be shown verbally.

233

:

You know what I'm saying?

234

:

Yep.

235

:

Yeah Yep.

236

:

Yep.

237

:

Well, chapter 37.

238

:

Yeah.

239

:

Bezalel is going to be

doing all these things.

240

:

He's building the ark.

241

:

He's building the table.

242

:

He's building the lamp stand, which

talk about a trembling task, a fear

243

:

inducing task, building the ark where

the glory of God is going to show up

244

:

on the mercy seat between the cherubim.

245

:

There, that, that must've been an honor.

246

:

Yeah.

247

:

Versus the lamp stand.

248

:

That's still important, but it's like,

Hey, this thing's going to give light.

249

:

This thing's going to be where

the glory of God shows up.

250

:

Yeah.

251

:

Yeah.

252

:

But the spirit was

empowering him for that work.

253

:

So I wonder if there was, maybe there

was trembling and that probably would be

254

:

appropriate, but one wonders if there's

also a sense of, yes, this is exciting.

255

:

Maybe something like it is to preach.

256

:

Preaching is a trembling activity,

but I get excited when I'm,

257

:

when I'm ready, I'm prepared.

258

:

I know my text, I'm ready to go into it.

259

:

There's a great level of excitement,

even as there's also a great level

260

:

of humble trembling that I'm not fit

for the task in an ultimate sense.

261

:

Yeah.

262

:

Maybe something like that.

263

:

Yeah.

264

:

Yeah.

265

:

Yeah.

266

:

Yeah, chapter 37, by the way, corresponds

to chapter 25 20 37 25 36 26 37 25.

267

:

Yeah, you may not want to memorize this

But yes chapter 37 corresponds a chapter

268

:

25 in Exodus 8 6 7 5 3 0 9 8 6 7 8 6 7

5 is that it that doesn't feel right?

269

:

I think so 8 6 7 Yes, I think so Jenny?

270

:

Okay.

271

:

Well, I don't know.

272

:

It feels wrong for some reason.

273

:

I think it's 8 6 7 5 3 0 9.

274

:

All right.

275

:

You keep talking.

276

:

We're going to get an

email about that for sure.

277

:

Let me look it up.

278

:

Bruno and Nani.

279

:

They're going to know

they're going to let us know.

280

:

All right.

281

:

Exodus 38.

282

:

Then we get the construction of

the tabernacle being completed

283

:

at this point and it's completed

with the making of the altar.

284

:

For the burnt offering, the bronze

basin and the courtyard itself.

285

:

And the, the tabernacle

was designed to be mobile.

286

:

One thing that I noticed here is it does

not mean that it was going to be light.

287

:

I was looking at some of the measurements

here and in the, the construction

288

:

here, the silver alone was estimated

to have weighed somewhere between.

289

:

Two and a half to three tons just

of silver and then bronze, another

290

:

two and a half to three tons.

291

:

I suddenly feel better about our chairs.

292

:

Yeah.

293

:

Right.

294

:

Our stage pieces.

295

:

Not that bad, right?

296

:

Cause they had to break these things

down and Karen beat, but it was all the

297

:

basins, like the silver basins for all the

poles and everything else that was heavy.

298

:

And we see shekels and we're

like, Oh, shekels, whatever.

299

:

But that's how much, I mean, this is a

multi ton edifice that they're having

300

:

to break down and, and carry with them.

301

:

A lot of people for that.

302

:

My back already hurts and we're

not even using half of this.

303

:

It does.

304

:

What did you find out?

305

:

Everybody's dying to know it is 9.

306

:

For some reason it just didn't sit right.

307

:

I don't know.

308

:

There's, you know, in my old

age, some things just don't

309

:

feel the same way they used to.

310

:

Well, you know, tomorrow 40, I guess

tomorrow, according to this pocket.

311

:

Yeah.

312

:

Yeah.

313

:

You're right.

314

:

No.

315

:

So, wow.

316

:

Yep.

317

:

So, yeah.

318

:

Anything else beyond 38?

319

:

Oh 38 we're already on 38.

320

:

Yeah, I got through 38 You were looking

at I was looking at phone numbers.

321

:

That's right Okay, so one quick note here

at the end of 38 notice the in verse 26.

322

:

There's 600 3550 men It's identifying

men:

323

:

that we're looking at a conservative

number of anywhere between two to three

324

:

million people total 600, 3, 550 men.

325

:

The numbers themselves leave us a

little bit of a struggle here, as

326

:

we talked about previously, when we

jumped into this in the first place,

327

:

those large numbers are problematic.

328

:

When we start thinking about all that

it would take to support these people

329

:

where waste would go, water needs and

supplies walking in constricted parts

330

:

of the desert, how they would do that.

331

:

Now we're not, we're not.

332

:

Man, there's no problem whatsoever in

the Christian mindset to say, could

333

:

God not have done A, B, C, and D?

334

:

Absolutely.

335

:

Absolutely.

336

:

There's no problem on God's

part to say, I can handle that.

337

:

The problem on our part is okay.

338

:

What, what did he do?

339

:

Did he do this miracle to supply

them with food and water and shelter?

340

:

Because he did do miracles.

341

:

The sandals never wore out.

342

:

They had mana for for their

wilderness wanderings.

343

:

He did those things again.

344

:

The problem is not whether god could

do it It's whether did god do that?

345

:

What was the miracle?

346

:

Was it taking three million

people through the desert?

347

:

Or is there a smaller number that

he sustains them with because that

348

:

would make more sense when they're the

smallest Were you guys not the smallest

349

:

and most insignificant trembled around

them if they had three million people

350

:

People would tremble at their size.

351

:

So we have to do some exegesis here

to figure out what's the real miracle

352

:

and it's no injustice to god to

say Oh, it's three million versus.

353

:

Oh, no It's a much smaller number

But god sustained them and kept them

354

:

through the desert and protected them

against all their potential threats and

355

:

enemies In fact in your small groups

this week in your community groups

356

:

this week as part of our application

from the sermon this past weekend, so

357

:

In John 16, it says that the spirit

of truth will lead you into all truth.

358

:

So one of the things we're going to be

talking about in our community groups is,

359

:

is there truth outside of biblical truth?

360

:

The answer is yes.

361

:

So one of the, the areas that we have to

get to is what do we do when, how do we

362

:

triage Competing truth claims especially

in the area of evangelism, but also within

363

:

just the unity of the bride of Christ.

364

:

There are things that we can choose

to get really worked up over and,

365

:

and divide fellowship over that

aren't worth getting worked up

366

:

over and dividing fellowship over.

367

:

And if you've got somebody that's going

to come in and say, for example, I don't

368

:

think it was actually, 603, 000 men,

because that would be 3 million people.

369

:

And I think it was a

smaller number than that.

370

:

And they've got legitimate arguments

for, for why that might be.

371

:

You don't need to look at them

and be like, Hey, you're a heretic

372

:

and you've denied the inerrancy

and authority of scripture.

373

:

Get out of my face.

374

:

And I, I think we can be quick

to pull the trigger on that.

375

:

I know I can, I I'm ardent defender

of the inerrancy and authority of

376

:

scripture, and I have strong convictions

about those things, but I also.

377

:

Think that that they're a bigger fish

to fry and we need unity as a church as

378

:

as much as we can again that that Famous

statement that I butchered before and

379

:

I'll put you again In since all things.

380

:

Oh, yeah in essentials unity in non

essential liberty and all things

381

:

grace So I think we need a little

bit more of that, but those will be

382

:

entering conversations I trust in the

community groups about how do we triage?

383

:

Something that is worth Making a stink

over or saying, we really need to stand on

384

:

the battleground for this particular truth

versus something that we can say, okay,

385

:

you know, we can set that one aside for

the sake of unity or an evangelism work.

386

:

We can revisit that later, but let's

deal with, with what really needs to

387

:

be dealt with right now, which is.

388

:

Jesus and the gospel and the fact that

you need to be saved And we should also

389

:

not confuse the kind of subversive spirit

that says did god really say right that

390

:

that that exists And we don't want that.

391

:

We're not trying to do that What we

are trying to say is we it's there are

392

:

questions in the bible that it brings up

itself that we have to say Okay, what's

393

:

what's god trying to communicate here?

394

:

It's not that god's unclear It's that we

are sinful recipients and sometimes it's

395

:

harder for us to wrap our minds around.

396

:

What's god communicating?

397

:

what's he conveying and it takes a

little more effort than it just to You

398

:

Then just a passing superficial reading.

399

:

So that's what we're arguing for

deep, thorough, understanding reading.

400

:

And that takes time.

401

:

That takes effort.

402

:

And I'd even say it takes godliness.

403

:

Yep.

404

:

There's a kind of spirit that

is more receptive to God's truth

405

:

than a spirit of criticism.

406

:

And we're not trying to develop that we're

trying to be humble and receive God's

407

:

word for what it says and not what we

wanted to say or what our tradition says.

408

:

Yep.

409

:

Yeah.

410

:

Amen.

411

:

Well, let's pray and then we'll

be done with this episode.

412

:

God, give us a posture, a mentality, a

humbleness, a humility like that to really

413

:

just seek to know truly what your word

says and not to draw conclusions based

414

:

on tradition or based on anything else,

but really truly to, to want to know

415

:

what you want us to know from your word.

416

:

And.

417

:

in how to take it and

apply it to our lives.

418

:

So we're grateful for the, the,

what we call the perspicuity of

419

:

scripture, that it's, it's readable.

420

:

It's understandable that we can read it

in a language that makes sense to us.

421

:

That's an act of grace and condescension

from you that we are so thankful for.

422

:

Help us to appreciate the gift

that we have in your word as we

423

:

continue to read it day after day.

424

:

And we thank you for the reading

that we had for this day.

425

:

And we pray this in Jesus name, amen.
