On this episode of the Food About Town podcast, my friend Chris Clemens from Exploring Upstate came over to talk about our recent trip to Utica to explore more of the food of the city. This was our second trip and this time we focused on the food of the refugees and immigrants that have made their homes in Utica. Check out his article on the trip on Exploring Upstate and listen to the podcast for all the details!
Zeina’s Cafe Mixed Appetizers
During our first trip to the city we focused on the Italian American side of the cuisine that Utica is more known for. Dishes like chicken riggies, Utica greens and giambotte had roots in that community but as we drove around the city we saw food that represented so many different cultures. That drove us to return this year and go off the beaten path to places that weren’t what most people are aware of.

For reference the places we ended up visiting are below so you can follow in our footsteps. All I can say is that any city is worth exploring through its food. We saw even more places to justify another trip next year. I hope we get to keep on doing this and seeing what Utica is really made of.
