Transcripts

Laura:

Hello and welcome to, who Are You?

Laura:

It's a Babylon five watch cast by a couple of former strangers, now

Laura:

friends who are continuing to get to know each other over one of their

Laura:

favorite shows from their childhood.

Laura:

Babylon.

Laura:

Five.

Laura:

I'm Laura,

Xhafer:

And I'm Jafe

Laura:

and today I get to ask Jafa, who are you from?

Laura:

Babylon five.

Xhafer:

That's right.

Xhafer:

We're gonna do a quiz.

Laura:

we're doing quiz time again?

Xhafer:

It's been a little while.

Xhafer:

We found another one.

Xhafer:

Last time We did.

Xhafer:

Uh, What was it?

Xhafer:

Something about cuisine?

Laura:

Yeah, it was, who are you from?

Laura:

Bevel five.

Laura:

Based on your food choices, I think.

Xhafer:

Yeah,

Xhafer:

This one is just a lot more generic.

Xhafer:

I have not taken this yet.

Xhafer:

I did not like preemptively take it.

Xhafer:

It's 20 questions.

Xhafer:

And the link is gonna go in our discord.

Xhafer:

So you'll see it there if you are already part of our discord.

Xhafer:

If not, you should join our discord.

Xhafer:

if maybe one of our, one of our Discord friends wants to reply and put it up

Xhafer:

there on the tweet before I get a chance to, because I promise I'm gonna forget.

Xhafer:

I would really appreciate you.

Xhafer:

So.

Xhafer:

My first question is, have you ever shoplifted.

Laura:

Oh man.

Laura:

I mean, when you're kids, you do stupid stuff, right?

Xhafer:

Yeah, I have accidentally shoplifted a couple of times, I'm sure.

Xhafer:

Sometimes like when I'm getting a couple things, I might put something in my pocket

Xhafer:

and then forget to check out with it.

Xhafer:

Um, I'm sure this has happened.

Xhafer:

I can't recall a specific instance.

Xhafer:

It's not something I aim to do, but it's something that's definitely happened.

Xhafer:

I do recall one particular instance from my childhood where I shoplifted

Xhafer:

uh, not intentionally again.

Xhafer:

I was at Best Buy with my mom and we were buying a bunch of stuff.

Xhafer:

And I had a Cowboy Bebo DVD in the cart that got totally missed and we

Xhafer:

got out of there and my mom's like, shopliftings wrong, but we just

Xhafer:

dropped like $700 in this Best Buy.

Xhafer:

We're not going back in for 20 bucks.

Laura:

Man, you can't do that at Best Buy these days.

Laura:

They got everything locked down inside of Best Buy.

Xhafer:

yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I'm gonna go with, I'm sure I have Miss Rung something at self checkout.

Laura:

You know, like when you're scanning your produce and you're supposed to

Laura:

select what type of produce it is.

Laura:

I know I've mis rung something there, so let's

Xhafer:

A hundred percent.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

So we have the choices.

Laura:

I have before, but I know it's wrong.

Laura:

Yep.

Laura:

Still do and never have.

Laura:

Never will.

Laura:

So I gotta go with, I have, I guess

Xhafer:

Yeah, same.

Xhafer:

All right.

Xhafer:

What gives you fuel in the morning?

Xhafer:

Energy.

Xhafer:

Drink tea, water, coffee.

Xhafer:

I am a coffee drinker.

Laura:

I wish I could be a coffee drinker.

Laura:

I love coffee, but I'm a tea drinker.

Xhafer:

My girlfriend is about to go spend two weeks in Hawaii with her

Xhafer:

family and I, the, my very strict instruction was a hundred percent Kona.

Xhafer:

You gotta bring me back some pure Hawaiian coffee.

Xhafer:

The Kona blends we get here are nowhere near as good.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

Number three.

Laura:

You're in a group project and one group member is extremely bossy.

Laura:

What do you do?

Laura:

Hmm?

Laura:

Confront them in private.

Laura:

Call them out on it in front of everybody, silently brewed and do your own thing.

Laura:

Secretly.

Xhafer:

I am the group member that is extremely bossy

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I was gonna say, I don't know what this is.

Laura:

Like

Xhafer:

That's, I've been in groups where I've silently bred

Xhafer:

because it was not worth arguing.

Xhafer:

I've been in groups where I thought my, if I feel like my grade was at risk in

Xhafer:

the group project in school I would.

Xhafer:

Say something if I didn't think my grade was at risk, like I wouldn't do it this

Xhafer:

way, but I'm, you, you know, clearly you have a good grade in this class.

Xhafer:

I'm just gonna let you run the thing.

Xhafer:

Won't argue with it.

Xhafer:

So I've done both.

Xhafer:

I've never confronted in private though.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

This one's tough.

Laura:

It's very contextual.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I'm gonna go with, call them out in front of everybody because statistically

Xhafer:

that is probably my most common answer,

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

But it's, it does very much depend on the situation.

Laura:

I have definitely done silent brood, but I think that.

Laura:

I am now confronting private person.

Laura:

Like I would try to try to let them save face publicly a little

Laura:

bit and keep it private, but it really depends on the context.

Xhafer:

All right.

Xhafer:

Question four.

Xhafer:

You unintentionally say something hurtful in a conversation.

Xhafer:

What do you do?

Xhafer:

Ignore it.

Xhafer:

Who said it was unintentional?

Xhafer:

Apologize profusely.

Laura:

oh man.

Laura:

. Xhafer: Um, you apologize.

Laura:

You apologize.

Laura:

We're both apologize.

Laura:

I mean, my Midwestern won't let me walk 10 minutes without saying sorry to something.

Laura:

I see.

Laura:

I apologize to potholes.

Laura:

So like it's Of course I'm gonna apologize.

Laura:

definitely.

Laura:

what character flaws do you hate the most?

Laura:

Dishonesty, authoritarianism or egocentrism.

Laura:

I'm gonna go with dishonesty.

Laura:

I hate that

Xhafer:

I dislike dishonesty, and I will, I will not respect

Xhafer:

someone for dishonesty occasion.

Xhafer:

There's context with dishonesty, but with authoritarianism,

Laura:

Mm.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

gonna fly with me, never.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Would you consider yourself a responsible person?

Xhafer:

Some, sometimes.

Xhafer:

By whose definition And yes, vary y Yes.

Xhafer:

I am the responsible one in, I am literally called the dad friend

Xhafer:

with, without even having kids.

Xhafer:

Uh, I'm the dad.

Xhafer:

I have friends who are actual parents who have called me the dad friend,

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I'm gonna have to go with sometimes because my husband edits this

Laura:

podcast and he will know the truth.

Laura:

Cuz there are some things I'm very responsible with.

Laura:

I'm a very responsible accountant for one thing.

Laura:

Am I a very responsible, just like general adult?

Laura:

I don't know about that.

Laura:

sometimes you're driving and a semi-truck going full speed misses you by an inch.

Laura:

How do you feel?

Laura:

Totally freaked out, man.

Laura:

It didn't hit me, so it doesn't matter.

Laura:

Slightly freaked out, but mostly fine.

Laura:

No, I'm, I'm freaked out.

Laura:

That's, that's easy.

Xhafer:

this, this has almost, I almost died like this actually when

Xhafer:

I was a senior, so my dad bought me a car so I could drive my sister to school

Xhafer:

so she wouldn't have to take the bus.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And I was driving it and I had taken her to a concert for her birthday

Xhafer:

and it was the winter and we spun out on some black ice on the expressway and

Xhafer:

my car was perpendicular to the road.

Xhafer:

So we're sideways and cars are coming.

Xhafer:

towards the side of us and we slowly drifted back into the, the median as

Xhafer:

roads are designed to push things as a semi just barreled right in front of us.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

And I was a little freaked out, but mostly fine.

Xhafer:

Some parallel universe me died and now there's less of me when I get jet.

Xhafer:

Lead the one.

Xhafer:

So I'm here for it.

Xhafer:

Complete this sentence.

Xhafer:

I blank.

Xhafer:

Put the needs of others before my own.

Xhafer:

Never, often, sometimes,

Laura:

I mean, that's another, sometimes for me

Xhafer:

um,

Xhafer:

my therapist has yelled at me for doing this too much.

Xhafer:

I don't know.

Xhafer:

I don't feel that's particularly accurate, but that's the whole

Xhafer:

point of going to therapy.

Xhafer:

So maybe

Laura:

true.

Laura:

That's true.

Laura:

I was gonna say, I mean, I think as far as women go, because women

Laura:

are very socialized to do this.

Laura:

Yes.

Laura:

Like in, at least in our culture, . Well, most sculptures I think, but we're

Laura:

socialized to put everybody else first.

Laura:

I think if you're pulling me on a scale against my peers that I have improved

Laura:

on this and maybe I don't do it as much as some others, so I'm gonna go with the

Laura:

sometimes instead of often this time.

Xhafer:

Okay.

Xhafer:

I feel like the exact opposite is a man.

Xhafer:

I'm told to almost never do this by society and I feel

Xhafer:

like I do it very, very often.

Xhafer:

Uh, but not too often.

Xhafer:

That would be too much, but once again, I will listen to my therapist

Laura:

outside objective advice is important.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

Would you say you are a leader or a follower?

Laura:

More of A follower, definitely a leader.

Laura:

I don't like to do either.

Laura:

I prefer to be left alone.

Xhafer:

I'm, I'm a leader.

Xhafer:

That's, yeah.

Laura:

tend to, Lead.

Laura:

Lead things.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

one of the great joys of my life is helping people become

Xhafer:

better versions of themselves.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And that's not something you do by sitting on the sidelines.

Laura:

I don't know that I could say something that altruistic or noble.

Laura:

I just tend to rush at things and people come with me.

Xhafer:

other people are a kind of annoying, sometimes B, possibly new

Xhafer:

friends, companions, family, et cetera.

Xhafer:

C pawns,

Laura:

can it be A and B?

Laura:

I, I'm not a C person at all.

Laura:

I don't look at the world that way, but I, I can definitely see both A and B.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

I mean, I'm

Laura:

Probably lean more toward B,

Xhafer:

I'm definitely a b I'm an extrovert.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I'm interested in people, even if they do get on my nerves on occasion.

Laura:

What do you think your greatest strengths are?

Laura:

Being honest.

Laura:

Being kind.

Laura:

Being selfless?

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Not the selfless.

Laura:

I do tend to be kind, but again, I think that's the socialization of women thing,

Xhafer:

Hmm.

Laura:

But I, I think I'm very good at being honest and I think as that's one

Laura:

of my career strengths as well, so.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Of these three I think I have to go selfless.

Xhafer:

Not that I lie particularly often but I do enjoy a good ruse

Laura:

I'm

Laura:

not good.

Laura:

at bruises.

Xhafer:

and a good prank.

Xhafer:

You know, the, the, the long, the long term joke on friends is something

Xhafer:

that me and my group of friends will do to each other quite often.

Xhafer:

And sometimes that doesn't involve being perfectly honest

Xhafer:

with each other all the time.

Xhafer:

Uh, It's . Not, it's not from a place of malice.

Xhafer:

You know, it's from a place of creating joy later.

Xhafer:

So, I, I don't think I can put honest, and I know that I have

Xhafer:

been outright mean to people.

Xhafer:

People have been outright mean to me.

Xhafer:

I don't hold against anyone, so I think I gotta go selfless here.

Xhafer:

All right.

Xhafer:

What is your greatest weakness?

Xhafer:

You put a lot of emotion into things.

Xhafer:

You put other people's wants and needs before your own, or you tend

Xhafer:

to be a little bit of a pushover.

Xhafer:

I do not feel like a is a weakness, Mr.

Xhafer:

Quiz?

Laura:

I mean, for me it is sometimes I have to go with a definitely

Laura:

because sometimes I cannot get that emotion under control when,

Laura:

when I need to be more functional.

Laura:

So

Xhafer:

Fair.

Xhafer:

I mean, if it, if it is emotional, if it is emotion to the point of harming your

Xhafer:

your functionality, then I suppose that would be too much emotion into things.

Xhafer:

But I feel like that's a phrase that gets thrown around a lot, especially

Xhafer:

towards women in our society.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

It's kind of a weapon against us a lot.

Xhafer:

Yeah, it's shitty.

Xhafer:

It's real . Shitty.

Xhafer:

This is something I've had conversations with my mom about.

Xhafer:

My, my mom is a very emotional person and also, you know, she's

Xhafer:

considered a pushover . As well.

Xhafer:

When a pushover probably isn't a pushover, you're probably just not being a dick

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

most of the time.

Xhafer:

I don't like any of these answers.

Laura:

I think for men too, it's like I know lots of very emotional men at work.

Laura:

Their emotion is anger

Xhafer:

uh, okay.

Xhafer:

Uh, uh, I, I, I was not talking about, you can definitely put

Xhafer:

too much anger into things.

Laura:

yeah, but I'm, I'm just saying like, you know, women get criticized all

Laura:

the time for being emotional, but it's

Laura:

like they're just as emotional.

Laura:

They've just got one that's socially acceptable for them, and that is anger.

Laura:

So

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

Which

Laura:

of the following do you fear the most?

Laura:

Closed spaces.

Laura:

Insects or bugs or public speaking?

Laura:

. Well, we know which one.

Laura:

It's not

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

If you have a podcast, you're not allowed to pick public speaking.

Laura:

right?

Xhafer:

Um, And, and due to my recent experience trapped on a train in

Xhafer:

London, I know it's not closed spaces.

Laura:

I'm not a closed spaces person.

Laura:

I, I'm really not that bothered by insects or bugs anymore

Laura:

since like my son's so into them.

Xhafer:

I have a bit of a irrational fear about putting my hand someplace

Xhafer:

where I can't see where it is, like my foot underneath a sofa or like

Xhafer:

in between the cushions and my, like the car seats or something, you know?

Xhafer:

And like a scorpion getting me.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Like, oh, something's gonna come and get me.

Xhafer:

And I'd like to say that this fear is completely irrational, but I've,

Xhafer:

I've been attacked by a scorpion.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And then I have also encountered in real life a black widow spider.

Laura:

Yeah, me too.

Xhafer:

So the fear of respect, but fear, nevertheless.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I think I'm gonna, I'm gonna go with insects or bugs because snakes

Laura:

and heights are not on the list.

Laura:

those are my two things.

Xhafer:

All right.

Xhafer:

Someone tries flirting with you, but you're in a serious relationship.

Xhafer:

How do you handle it?

Laura:

Hmm.

Xhafer:

A, just ignore them and hope they get the message.

Xhafer:

B, shut them down quickly and avoid them the rest of the night.

Xhafer:

C immediately turn them down and tell your, so what happened?

Xhafer:

I'm noticing D isn't here, which is not realize you're being flirted with,

Xhafer:

accidentally flirt with them back and then realize what happened six years later when

Xhafer:

you wake up in the middle of the night.

Laura:

that's the most realistic option.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Of these bad options.

Laura:

I think I would just pick a, just ignore them and hope they

Laura:

get the message, because that's what we're taught to do as women.

Laura:

Again,

Xhafer:

Yeah,

Laura:

don't make them angry, you know,

Xhafer:

fair enough, I I would definitely if someone was flirting to the point of

Xhafer:

this is clearly more than just a casual kind of thing, I would definitely be

Xhafer:

like, Hey, sorry no, I will go with C

Laura:

in your group of friends, you're usually, oh, we get four choices now.

Laura:

A the storyteller, B, the planner.

Laura:

C, the comic relief.

Laura:

D, the adventurer.

Xhafer:

As the person who makes Facebook events for their parties

Xhafer:

three months in advance so everyone can make sure their plans align.

Xhafer:

I think I have to go with the planner.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I don't think I'm the planner.

Laura:

I don't think I'm that funny, so I'm probably not the comic relief.

Laura:

I'm not that adventurous.

Laura:

But I do talk a lot.

Laura:

I'm probably the storyteller.

Xhafer:

What kind of TV show makes you feel better?

Xhafer:

Reality, thriller comedy.

Laura:

it's not reality for me.

Xhafer:

No, I abor reality television and I don't like thriller TV shows.

Xhafer:

At least not I have to be in a mood.

Laura:

Right?

Laura:

They don't make me feel better if I, like, feel bad, you

Xhafer:

yeah.

Laura:

What would you do if someone dropped a $50 bill while walking

Laura:

on the street in front of you?

Laura:

Stop the person and give it back.

Laura:

Seriously.

Laura:

Try to find the person, but keep it if you can't or just leave it.

Xhafer:

A implies that B is not

Laura:

right, right.

Laura:

A A implies that you know who it is, but B says maybe you don't.

Xhafer:

If you can just stop the person, but you, you seriously try

Xhafer:

to find them, but you'd keep it.

Xhafer:

Well, yeah.

Xhafer:

I mean, I would seriously try to find them, but if I can just stop the person,

Xhafer:

they're right in front of me, I'm just gonna give them their $50 back.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Same.

Xhafer:

someone spills coffee all over themselves.

Xhafer:

You laugh and keep walking, snicker at yourself, but offer to help quickly grab

Xhafer:

some napkins and help clean them off.

Laura:

Oh, I'm, I'm getting those napkins.

Xhafer:

I've seen enough babies puke in my house to know that I'm

Xhafer:

grabbing paper towel immediately.

Laura:

It, it sucks.

Laura:

Everybody's had this happen.

Laura:

Do something nice.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

How would you deal with someone you're at odds with publicly?

Laura:

Call them out, bring up your concerns and try to hear them out.

Laura:

Try your best to ignore them and just do you, and it's, it's the context thing.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Someone I'm at odds with implies that I'm not ignoring them

Xhafer:

like they're part of my life.

Xhafer:

If they're part of my life and there's something wrong, I'm

Xhafer:

gonna talk to them about it.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

and probably not publicly, unless it is something that requires

Xhafer:

public shaming, which is few and far between, but is a thing

Xhafer:

depending on, you know, them saying stupid shit or something.

Laura:

yeah.

Xhafer:

Sometimes you gotta go for public shame.

Xhafer:

All right, last question.

Xhafer:

Pick a word that best describes you.

Xhafer:

Considerate, compassionate, and friendly.

Laura:

Hmm.

Laura:

. Those are three very similar choices to me.

Xhafer:

They are what makes this easy for me is I try to be considerate.

Xhafer:

I try to be compassionate.

Xhafer:

I don't try to be friendly,

Xhafer:

but I have friends, so it must be the thing that is most natural to

Xhafer:

me because I'm not trying to do it.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

I, I think I'm gonna go with compassionate because I do feel

Laura:

like I see other people's point of view very easily all the time.

Laura:

And sometimes I do have to try to be friendly.

Laura:

Just depends.

Laura:

All right, let's find out who we are.

Laura:

All right.

Laura:

You wanna go first?

Xhafer:

I got veer.

Laura:

No.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Laura:

So did I.

Xhafer:

We had a handful of similar answers.

Xhafer:

Also, this might be one of those quizzes where if you don't pick all of the, I

Xhafer:

am the master manipulator and the world is my pge, then you just get veer.

Xhafer:

It is B.

Xhafer:

Maybe veer and alando are the only options.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

We're gonna need everybody to go and do this quiz

Xhafer:

Yep.

Laura:

cuz we need to know how many more veers are out there

Laura:

or if there's any other choices.

Laura:

Well, I mean, veer is not the worst character to be, right?

Laura:

He's we just saw him do some great things in that last episode.

Laura:

We just have veer on the brain from the last episode.

Xhafer:

Quite possible.

. Laura:

Yeah.

. Laura:

What are we gonna get on our brain in this episode?

Xhafer:

We have King Arthur.

Xhafer:

We're going to talk some King Arthur.

Xhafer:

We have season three, episode 13, a late delivery from Avalon.

Laura:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Now this episode, Michael York, the guest star, we'll talk

Xhafer:

about him when he gets here, but I did read a lot of stuff and the one

Xhafer:

thing I have to point out is that J m s brought his cabaret laser disc to

Xhafer:

the set and had Michael York sign it.

Laura:

I

Laura:

want the cabaret laser disc.

Laura:

Oh my god.

Laura:

I think my dad still has his laser disc player.

Laura:

Yes.

Xhafer:

I read that and I'm like, that has to be the first

Xhafer:

thing I say about this episode.

Xhafer:

the second

Xhafer:

thing,

Xhafer:

Listener.

Xhafer:

I've talked in the past a bit about my history and my knowledge

Xhafer:

and my passion of sword fighting.

Xhafer:

There's sword fighting in this episode, which means I'm a

Xhafer:

nerd out about Swords Bunch.

Xhafer:

So hope you're ready for that.

Laura:

There's your content warning right there.

Laura:

Jafa.

Laura:

Gotta talk about swords, Yeah.

Laura:

So we open with the transport Asimov coming through the jump gate.

Laura:

Uh, this is like one of the first earth transports in months it seems like.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

They call out.

Xhafer:

It's the first one since they declared their independence.

Xhafer:

And so we get, we get a handful of things that are kind of set off by this.

Xhafer:

I would say our C plot is set off by this with packages arriving.

Xhafer:

But also our alot, but we start with the C here.

Xhafer:

Um, After a quick mention of our blot, which is they need more than

Xhafer:

the mbar protecting the station, and then we go to the post office,

Laura:

Yes.

Laura:

It's the post office episode.

Xhafer:

prices have gone up.

Xhafer:

Garabaldi.

Xhafer:

This is why you buy . Forever Stamps.

Xhafer:

Get with the game.

Laura:

It's gonna be a hundred credits for him to get this package

Laura:

out of Hawk at the post office.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

This Postman, did he look familiar to

Laura:

He does a little, tell me about this Postman.

Xhafer:

This is Michael Keegan and he is a guest star on your favorite

Xhafer:

sitcom that has aired since 1995.

Xhafer:

Just whatever it is.

Xhafer:

Decent chance he was on it.

Xhafer:

From Friends to Desperate Housewives and everywhere in

Xhafer:

between, like everything like how I met your mother, Hannah Montana.

Xhafer:

He was on four episodes.

Xhafer:

He was in Voyage.

Xhafer:

He's in all kinds of shit.

Xhafer:

Dude has probably the second most impressive CV in this episode, that's

Xhafer:

not his fault.

Xhafer:

Well, Michael York and this guy

Laura:

wonderful.

Xhafer:

so I had forgotten how this wraps up.

Xhafer:

He's great.

Xhafer:

He's hilarious.

Xhafer:

Rain nor show snow nor Shine, nor alien Invasion, nor Meteor Strike.

Laura:

Yep.

Xhafer:

making Ben Franklin proud.

Xhafer:

, Laura: Garibaldi tries to, to tell him

Xhafer:

it . From him, but he is not getting it.

Xhafer:

When he tells him what's in it, he doesn't give garal to the option

Xhafer:

to pay the a hundred credits anymore.

Xhafer:

He just, he's like, oh, pepperoni.

Xhafer:

Shoves it in back.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Why did Aldi think this was gonna work?

Laura:

he's just, he's just giving him more reasons to like seize the package and then

Laura:

sell everything on the black market like

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

Okay, man.

Xhafer:

After this we cut to Michael York.

Xhafer:

O b e.

Xhafer:

he's having some bad dreams in a endless hallway.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Gray hallway.

Xhafer:

so Michael York, obviously very famous actor.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

Probably gotta be the most famous guest star on this.

Laura:

Yeah, I mean, like he, he got an Oscar for Cabaret, right?

Laura:

Am I making that up?

Xhafer:

I have some awards that he's won or been nominated for that

Xhafer:

we'll talk about Um, so he filmed this uh, if you're looking at his film career,

Xhafer:

he filmed this and a couple of other things in between in between playing

Xhafer:

Merlin in a Yankee in King Arthur's

Xhafer:

court.

Laura:

Uhhuh.

Xhafer:

And then he would've gone from this to playing Basil

Xhafer:

Exposition in Austin Powers.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Trying to list everything he's done is a fool's errand, like

Xhafer:

it's just an incredibly massive cv.

Xhafer:

I do want to call out his 2001 D V D exclusive awards nomination for

Xhafer:

best animated character performance in the land before times seven.

Xhafer:

The stone of cold fire, And then of course, who could forget in 2011 his

Xhafer:

lifetime achievement award from the Sylvania International Film Festival.

Laura:

Oh, that's adorable.

Xhafer:

I hear once you're invited to that you can keep coming back.

Xhafer:

Whether or not they send you another invitation.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

That's a vampire joke.

Laura:

get it.

Laura:

I get it.

Xhafer:

Anyway, he grabs a sword in one of the worst ways to theme.

Laura:

Oh my God.

Laura:

I was looking at this and I was like, that's obviously a prop sword.

Laura:

Or you would've hurt yourself very badly.

Xhafer:

Well, he probably would've been fine.

Xhafer:

So what makes this grabbing of the sword very dangerous is not how or

Xhafer:

where he grabs the sword, because those are both correct actually.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

It's the direction he's coming from that is the problem.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

Like coming out from under

Xhafer:

Exactly.

Xhafer:

So swords were typically, well, one, not very sharp.

Xhafer:

They didn't really need to be sharp.

Xhafer:

That was not their job.

Xhafer:

Most swords are not slashing weapons.

Xhafer:

They're stabbing weapons.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And when you do slash with them, you slash with the top 33% of the blade.

Xhafer:

Right?

Xhafer:

So anything past that point was typically not sharpened on purpose so that the

Xhafer:

wheeler could grab it in a similar fashion and do a technique that's noticed half

Xhafer:

sorting, which is what you do when you're in too close to be able to swing your.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

So he grabs a sword in the right spot and he uses a

Xhafer:

good grip on it when he grabs it.

Xhafer:

But the direction is completely wrong because all it takes is the person

Xhafer:

holding that sword to yank it the way that it is naturally going to go when you

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yep.

Xhafer:

If this sword instead of being downward were up and he were

Xhafer:

to grab it like that, that is a,

Xhafer:

that's a good maneuver.

Xhafer:

That's what you wanna do sometimes.

Xhafer:

But yeah.

Xhafer:

Sword facts,

Xhafer:

There are

Laura:

So we we grab the sword to theme, and then when we come

Laura:

back from theme we have Dr.

Laura:

Franklin and Marcus and down below, and they have got this

Laura:

mysterious . Illness spreading amongst the people of down below.

Laura:

And I, I could have sworn Jafa

Laura:

, but he said Banta flu.

Xhafer:

I thought he said Banta flu too.

Xhafer:

And I thought

Laura:

yeah.

Xhafer:

Wars joke.

Laura:

Yeah, me too..

Laura:

, when you look it up, I guess it's Banta flu.

Xhafer:

Yes, I had it with subtitles on uh, so it was spelled correctly for

Xhafer:

me, but I did pause and be all like, huh, have to rewind that a little bit.

Xhafer:

Roll it back for me.

Laura:

But apparently this is spreading Franklin's really excited that Marcus

Laura:

managed to catch this so quickly

Laura:

because I guess it's not something that, you know, shows a lot of signs

Laura:

early

Xhafer:

It's a flu that generates from mixing alien food and human

Xhafer:

food that's fermenting and that's what makes a communicable disease.

Xhafer:

It doesn't make one person sick.

Xhafer:

It's food sickness that spreads.

Xhafer:

This is terrifying.

Laura:

This is a stomach flu, right?

Laura:

I mean,

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

we gotta take away from this

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

This isn't a respiratory, this is the stomach flu.

Xhafer:

this is not pretty.

Xhafer:

But he caught it because he saw some people eating out of the garbage.

Xhafer:

And

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

we get a great line here that really defines Marcus as a person,

Xhafer:

more so maybe than most of his other actions this episode, which is crazy

Xhafer:

cuz it's a very good Marcus episode.

Xhafer:

And he comments how he used to wish life were fair until he actually

Xhafer:

thought about it and how terrible it would be to know that we deserved every

Xhafer:

bad thing that ever happened to us.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

This is one of my favorite quotes.

Laura:

Just like life quotes.

Laura:

Even

Xhafer:

This is like something that you see put up on LinkedIn on like an

Xhafer:

inspirational post without attribution,

Laura:

Uhhuh . And you're like, that's from Babylon.

Laura:

Five

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

That's actually happened to me.

Xhafer:

I've seen the truth of the three Ed sword.

Xhafer:

Make the rounds on LinkedIn before

Laura:

Me too.

Laura:

and I, every time I see it, I just wanna be like, that's from Babylon.

Laura:

Five y'all,

Xhafer:

Right?

Xhafer:

, I've watched this

Laura:

That's from my show.

Laura:

Get off my show.

Xhafer:

Cheap plug for the podcast,

Laura:

Exactly.

Laura:

I'm

Xhafer:

right?

Xhafer:

, you know what's not on my LinkedIn profile.

Laura:

Yeah, I've thought about it.

Xhafer:

I have my LARPing nonprofit days like nonprofit president

Xhafer:

for my LARP club on my LinkedIn profile, and I don't have this.

Laura:

no,

Xhafer:

It's not Slightly embarrassed

Laura:

a little embarrassed anyway.

Xhafer:

A shuttle docks after a brief conversation in med lab and

Xhafer:

Michael York walks through the metal detectors in full chain mail

Xhafer:

with a sword with the confidence of a boomer holding an expired

Xhafer:

coupon, asking for a manager.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I don't mean like a few days here.

Xhafer:

This thing is like a year old and he knows what he's doing.

Laura:

How did

Laura:

he get onto this transport with this sword?

Laura:

Does TSA only go one way?

Xhafer:

Well maybe

Xhafer:

it's an earth transport and maybe, maybe they've got future Second

Xhafer:

Amendment stuff and you know, oh, you're going to a non earth colony.

Xhafer:

Hope you've got a weapon, you know.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So obviously security, our TSA here at, at bevel on five is not

Laura:

cool with this they they drug ends.

Laura:

He brought a sword to a gunfight.

Xhafer:

he says his name Arthur Penn Dragon's son of King of the Britains.

Xhafer:

And then Marcus jumps in and deescalates without force,

Xhafer:

huh?

Xhafer:

Huh?

. Laura:

A novel concept.

Xhafer:

It is possible

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

And he has

Xhafer:

fantasy,

Laura:

with him.

Xhafer:

right?

Xhafer:

He uh, convinces him to go to med lab to get checked out.

Xhafer:

We get some quick background lip service that someone's gonna check his DNA

Xhafer:

and he talks to Arthur, who can't explain the 1700 year gap in his history,

Xhafer:

but he recounts being taken to Ava.

Xhafer:

And if he is returned now, it is because when he is here and

Xhafer:

now is where he is most needed.

Laura:

Yeah,

Xhafer:

So we know how this ends.

Xhafer:

We've watched this episode to be able to record this podcast.

Laura:

Uhhuh.

Xhafer:

I want to pause it something for you.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

We get the like first line in the next scene.

Xhafer:

Is Marcus telling us this is not outside the realm of possibility.

Xhafer:

You fucking met Jack the Ripper,

Laura:

Yes.

Laura:

Yeah, he did point out that Volans exist.

Xhafer:

What if that was the case?

Xhafer:

What if Michael York is Arthur?

Xhafer:

What if more than that?

Xhafer:

He becomes Captain King of Babel on five because this is where he is needed most

Xhafer:

and the rest of the series just takes a hard left turn and it is Arthur leading

Xhafer:

the armies of light in the shadow.

Laura:

Oh man,

Xhafer:

Like every episode before this, completely unchanged.

Xhafer:

Don't do anything different.

Xhafer:

And just from here out, it's the Arthur Pendragon in the sci-fi show.

Xhafer:

How nineties is that?

Laura:

That would, that would be so much fun.

Laura:

It's

Xhafer:

I would watch the shit of that, of that show.

Xhafer:

I don't know that I'd be hosting a podcast about that show 30 years

Xhafer:

later, but I would've watched the

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

of that show as a kid.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

. Xhafer:

That has to have been a thing, right?

. Xhafer:

That like reverse Yankee in King Arthur's court.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

It, that could have been

Xhafer:

That has to, that has to be a thing.

Laura:

there has to be some inspo in there.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I

Xhafer:

internets do our research for us, please.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So we don't know how he got here.

Laura:

no one seems to, at the, at the, you know, the conference table

Laura:

where we're discussing that, could he really be a war on,

Laura:

transplant?

Laura:

Nobody seems to like go say we should go ask Kosh We're we don't,

Laura:

we don't even really talk about k.

Laura:

At all at this point?

Xhafer:

Franklin shit's on this super quick, and it's just like, no,

Xhafer:

because he's speaking modern English.

Xhafer:

If he were truly just awoken and transported, he would not be,

Xhafer:

he'd be speaking old English.

Xhafer:

Right.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

All right.

Laura:

I mean, Sebastian did talk weird.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

But not too weird.

Xhafer:

But he had also been woken up a number of times and done stuff that was kind of,

Xhafer:

that was part of his thing is he was at the end of his penance, not at the start

Xhafer:

of it, he had been awoken a number of times to test people throughout history.

Xhafer:

So maybe he adapted more.

Xhafer:

He had a chance to but this does not like, oh, no, he speaks modern English.

Xhafer:

Like dude, once you've played the Arthur Pendragon could be in front of you card.

Xhafer:

You don't just get to use his linguistic state as a dismissal.

Laura:

But all that doesn't matter because, oops, we get a call from Med Lab

Laura:

and Arthur has escaped somehow because we don't have security in med lab either.

Xhafer:

There was literally a security guard posted outside of his room.

Xhafer:

, like in the previous scene, they're just hanging out in the shadows.

Laura:

What happened to those gns?

Laura:

Those gns were really good at security.

Xhafer:

they will be involved in the security in a couple minutes.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

But we see Arthur, he's down below and he goes to help in aged old lady,

Xhafer:

Kars, picking up some letters from home.

Xhafer:

When he hears fighting, he investigates to find Arthur taking on some Fugs

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

fun sword.

Xhafer:

Fact, his . Sword gets called a pig sticker.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

This is a historic term for swords.

Xhafer:

Swords were

Laura:

Oh, fun.

Laura:

Oh yeah.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

but this is not a sword you would use for bore.

Xhafer:

A bore hunting sword.

Xhafer:

Traditionally a German bore hunting sword is this vender, which is,

Xhafer:

you know, in, if you're a fantasy nerd, it's the giant fucking sword.

Xhafer:

It's a six seven foot sword, right?

Xhafer:

These things are massive to the point where you didn't swing them.

Xhafer:

That's not how you would use a sword.

Xhafer:

When bore hunting, what you would do is you'd find a boar, you'd sneak up,

Xhafer:

get kind of close, but not too close.

Xhafer:

Put the sword point down in the ground, goad the boar into charging you, and

Xhafer:

then pivot the sword in front of you so that the boar charged into the sword.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

Still seems risky.

Laura:

Lots of risks there

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah, it's terrifying.

Xhafer:

But that's why you want a seven foot sword.

Xhafer:

So that way when you are a little four and a half foot tall, medieval peasant

Xhafer:

ass, throws it down in the ground.

Xhafer:

Seven foot hypo noose.

Xhafer:

This thing is feet in front of you.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

Well, I don't expect our down below lurkers to be historically

Laura:

accurate with their terminology

Xhafer:

No, but they were,

Laura:

fun, thing.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

maybe he wasn't.

Xhafer:

Maybe it's not really that fun.

Xhafer:

It's kind of terrifying.

Xhafer:

You want some more sword fighting notes?

Laura:

sure.

Xhafer:

So Arthur goes into sword fighting here and is fighting like five dudes.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

so a couple things.

Xhafer:

The initial strike is a punch to the face between Arthur and the dude with the pipe.

Xhafer:

Why are either of you that close?

Xhafer:

You shouldn't be within melee, you shouldn't be within punching distance.

Xhafer:

You both wanna swing your weapons at each other.

Xhafer:

Dumb.

Xhafer:

Good thing.

Laura:

Gotta gotta be in the shot though.

Xhafer:

yeah.

Xhafer:

Gotta be in the shot for sure.

Xhafer:

So he punches the one dude.

Xhafer:

He kind of comes around, the dude that's right to his right.

Xhafer:

He swings that real quick and kind of gets away.

Xhafer:

And then what he, he does a blind swing from behind while rotating.

Xhafer:

And what this does is this forces the third dude who's coming up

Xhafer:

behind him to back the fuck up.

Xhafer:

He doesn't hit him.

Xhafer:

This is really good.

Xhafer:

This is exactly what you'd want to do here.

Xhafer:

You're creating distance.

Xhafer:

You have a distance advantage with a sword.

Xhafer:

That's the point of the weapon.

Xhafer:

You want to use that as much as you can.

Xhafer:

Shortly after this, he blind blocks as part of his turn,

Xhafer:

but he does it super early.

Xhafer:

, right?

Xhafer:

Just like he, he throws the sword up behind him and then like the dude starts

Xhafer:

to swing at him after his sword is up behind him, you would just not hit the

Xhafer:

sword cuz you know where the sword is bad.

Xhafer:

One last good thing though.

Xhafer:

After that blind block, he steps away and slashes the dude's leg

Xhafer:

while moving farther away from him.

Xhafer:

Perfect.

Xhafer:

This is exactly what you want to do.

Xhafer:

You've taken away his mobility and you're moving away from

Xhafer:

him removing him as a threat.

Xhafer:

When you're fighting multiple people, this is the most important thing is you

Xhafer:

want to generate space to be able to fight them one-on-one so that way you don't

Xhafer:

have to worry about getting snuck up on

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

After this, Kar is a theatrical bitch.

Xhafer:

He just jumps into help and is just like I, this is, this

Xhafer:

is the moment where we stand.

Xhafer:

Kar

Laura:

Yeah, no, he's got a great sense of dramatic flair and

Xhafer:

yeah.

Laura:

clause

Xhafer:

Narn Claw.

Xhafer:

Reminder that he's effectively second in command of station security at this point.

Xhafer:

Which in turn puts legitimization on Arthur's vigilantism here.

Laura:

Hmm.

Laura:

I hadn't thought of it that . Way.

Laura:

I just thought of it as cool, cool.

Laura:

Fight between cool guys.

Laura:

We're with cool guys.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So they take these guys down, we come back from commercial and they

Laura:

return the lost item to the old lady.

Laura:

It was a, a gold picture frame.

Laura:

It was stolen because it was valuable.

Laura:

I'm air quoting the word

Laura:

valuable.

Xhafer:

metals.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I'm like, okay, sure.

Laura:

Meanwhile, Garabaldi is looking for Arthur to, to try to fi or Aldi's sending

Laura:

his people to try to look for Arthur.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

But he's got something else.

Laura:

Something else to do.

Xhafer:

Arthur is getting drunk with Kar on Yuhu

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

. I was like, what is this?

Laura:

What is this beverage?

Xhafer:

actually.

Xhafer:

Yuhu.

Laura:

Oh, really?

Xhafer:

Like confirmed.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Someone asked jms on Usenet and he was all like, oh no, they, we use

Xhafer:

real food whenever possible, just cuz the actors have to actually eat it

Xhafer:

for their scenes most of the time.

Xhafer:

So he notes that like, whenever we see Garabaldi, , they actually brought

Xhafer:

in the, the dish, you know, and that they were drinking Yuhoo here.

Laura:

That's funny.

Laura:

I was like, is this a big giant black Russian or something like

Xhafer:

Oh, that sounds good.

Laura:

Hm.

Xhafer:

Do I have chocolate milk?

Laura:

Go for it.

Xhafer:

I'm gonna figure that out in 30

Laura:

for your later bubble bath

Xhafer:

right?

Xhafer:

He nights your car search a the Red Knight.

Laura:

Mm.

Xhafer:

I don't think he gets called this again.

Xhafer:

The rest of the series.

Xhafer:

I don't

Laura:

which is

Xhafer:

I don't recall.

Xhafer:

Right.

Xhafer:

He should get at least one more of these

Laura:

He's the Red knight of my heart.

Xhafer:

Garabaldi gets got again, going after his package

Xhafer:

instead of doing his job.

Laura:

oh my God.

Laura:

Garabaldi, when will you learn

Xhafer:

But while he gets got, so does Arthur, this time with

Xhafer:

a flashback fighting mbar.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

Marcus catches up with Kar and Arthur and lets them know the Fuzz

Xhafer:

is looking for them and Kars just all like, fuck that ACAP and then passes out

Laura:

Jahar Act.

Laura:

Drunk is my favorite kind of act.

Laura:

Drunk

Xhafer:

Andreas is clearly having a blast filming this episode.

Laura:

Yes

Xhafer:

and also getting to work with Michael York, I'm

Xhafer:

sure was a lot of fun for him.

Laura:

I'm sure.

Laura:

I mean, This, this would be the most fun episode to work on.

Laura:

Just in general, I think.

Xhafer:

I should have checked if they had done anything together beforehand.

Xhafer:

I am unaware.

Xhafer:

I did not think to look until just now.

Xhafer:

We get a throwaway line here about how uh, Gwen got the nickname The

Xhafer:

Green Night was from drinking too much and being sick in the morning.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

Chef's kiss that

Laura:

These are, these are good details.

Laura:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And then uh, we cut to the B five Council.

Xhafer:

where the treaty is delivered to the league of not aligned worlds.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So we want, we want the League of Non-line Worlds to all hop up and,

Laura:

and offer some ships to defense

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

, Over in me lab Franklin has found the

Xhafer:

think he should be told about it.

Xhafer:

Franklin doesn't budge and nor should he really he needs to heal from his

Xhafer:

delusions to be reset into reality.

Laura:

Sure.

Xhafer:

that's important.

Xhafer:

And I think, I don't wanna say it's childish of Marcus.

Xhafer:

It's definitely selfish of Marcus,

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

To want this fantasy to be real.

Laura:

yeah, yeah.

Xhafer:

and also just because his delusions are like cool and useful now

Xhafer:

does not mean that they are always going to.

Laura:

for sure.

Laura:

Like you know, if we encourage this King Arthur persona king is a powerful

Laura:

position, , who's to say, that's not gonna go to his head in some way,

Xhafer:

for sure.

Xhafer:

I just think besides the detriment to the person, it also just logistically

Xhafer:

doesn't make sense to continue with it.

Laura:

And, no,

Xhafer:

Even for Marcus's desire,

Laura:

Yep.

Xhafer:

we get his real name, David McIntyre, and we get a bit about his

Xhafer:

history, including his participation in the Battle of the Line and his personal

Xhafer:

role in starting the Earth, Maari war.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Arthur.

Laura:

Arthur has been a little bit obsessed over this whole last battle that he was

Laura:

in and that someone that the battle only started, you know, the two armies were

Laura:

working out, whatever disagreement they have, I don't know, my R 30 and legends

Laura:

very well but they were working it out.

Laura:

But somebody drew a sword to strike a snake, and that was the

Laura:

sword that stuck, struck the atter that got the two sides fighting.

Laura:

Well, now we know that the sword that struck the atter was gun ports being open.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

the guilt of the war and humanity's loss has transposed itself to

Xhafer:

the knights of the round table.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

We get a lot of cuts between reality and the delusion here.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

The editing and the cuts around the room after he is stunned

Xhafer:

and speechless, where we get kind of like super far shots with him,

Xhafer:

just still in the empty room.

Xhafer:

And then it ends with B five, kind of off center and the silence of space.

Xhafer:

This is art.

Xhafer:

This is beautiful.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

We'll talk about it when we get to our reviews, but this is the

Xhafer:

part of the episode where people turn.

Xhafer:

Typically, if you, if you are not a fan of this episode, it is these

Xhafer:

black and white flash cuts uh, that kind of feel hokey and old timey.

Laura:

I don't think they look as good on our TVs today.

Laura:

I remember being very impressed with this when I was young.

Laura:

I'm not sure that the, the images held up in the same way.

Xhafer:

I feel like the image quality on Voodoo is not as

Xhafer:

good as it was on H B O Max.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

Maybe

Xhafer:

don't know if, I don't know if you're noticing anything.

Xhafer:

I feel like it says it's HD and like I checked the, like my streaming

Xhafer:

stats and stuff and it's HD.

Xhafer:

, but it doesn't look 10 80 p to me.

Xhafer:

And maybe that's cuz I'm watching on a 4K tv and the upscaling in the HBO Max app

Xhafer:

is better than it is on the Voodoo app.

Xhafer:

I would believe that wholeheartedly.

Xhafer:

I think my TV just does most of that itself, to be perfectly honest.

Xhafer:

I don't know.

Xhafer:

I feel like not happy.

Laura:

We're gonna have to, this is the first one that we watched, not on HBO

Laura:

Max, so we're gonna have to put a pin in that and revisit in a few episodes, cuz

Laura:

I just assumed that that was something about this episode and the, you know, the

Laura:

black and white and the back and forth and I just didn't, didn't clock it as maybe.

Laura:

Something

Xhafer:

we'll have to listen.

Xhafer:

The League of Non-Aligned Podcasts is gathering again soon and neither of us are

Xhafer:

gonna be able to make it unfortunately.

Xhafer:

But this is something I believe they will be talking about.

Xhafer:

So

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

And they would

Laura:

know this stuff better than I would for sure.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I'm, I'm interested to see what the rest of the Babylon five

Xhafer:

podcasting community feels about it.

Xhafer:

So,

Laura:

Me too.

Xhafer:

all right.

Xhafer:

We find out the Babylon Treaty was a success but Franklin has

Xhafer:

to eat his hubris sandwich here.

Xhafer:

He is not able to fix everything.

Xhafer:

Again, again, again, again, again, again, again, again.

Laura:

He says something about, you think I would've learned

Laura:

my lesson by now or something?

Laura:

And

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

We, we fucking hope so, but no.

Laura:

We'll just have to see, won't we?

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

He's kind of gone catatonic, right?

Laura:

He's not responding to any stimuli.

Laura:

He's taken it very badly

Xhafer:

Yep.

Laura:

remember his past.

Xhafer:

They talked through the legend and how Arthur had to go full circle

Xhafer:

back to where it began, and this leads them to their solution in Delen.

Xhafer:

Having been there when Duco was killed, comes to take the

Xhafer:

sword, his burden, his pain.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

jms confirmed that Dylann was told exactly who he was and his

Xhafer:

role in her past before assisting.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

So

Laura:

yeah.

Laura:

Yeah,

Xhafer:

I mean, they wouldn't have been like, oh, he was on the ship

Xhafer:

that fired on you when you held Du Kat's r you know, dying in your hands.

Xhafer:

But they would've been like he was on the Prometheus that

Xhafer:

fired on the ship, you know,

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

destroyed Mbar one or whatever the name of the great council ship was.

Xhafer:

They've told us, I've forgotten.

Laura:

But from what we know of Dylan,

Laura:

I ev, even if they had told her every single detail, I

Laura:

don't see her refusing this.

Xhafer:

Current Dalen.

Xhafer:

No.

Xhafer:

Season

Laura:

yeah.

Laura:

yeah.

Laura:

No.

Laura:

But we're

Xhafer:

Yeah,

Laura:

the right point in time for her.

Xhafer:

for sure.

Xhafer:

You know, she takes on his.

Xhafer:

And releases him of that burden in a way that only she can

Xhafer:

and does it all without words.

Xhafer:

And this is a super moving scene.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

. agree.

Xhafer:

Garabaldi gets his package the full price way, but gets the

Xhafer:

postman back by charging him 101 credits to not start charging him rent.

Xhafer:

Which is fucked because that's not something Garabaldi

Xhafer:

can be, should be doing.

Xhafer:

One,

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

blackmailing him.

Laura:

It seems like a bribe.

Laura:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

This is not cool cuz Ava's even gone on record of bitching about how they don't

Xhafer:

have enough money coming in right now.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

So it's not even like this is a not a contemporary issue.

Xhafer:

This is very much an active problem that Aldi is making worse.

Laura:

Totally agree.

Xhafer:

Uh,

Laura:

go.

Laura:

Garibaldi.

Xhafer:

Kar and Franklin see David out, who is going to

Xhafer:

Nan to join the resistance.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

. I liked

Laura:

He's gonna help his buddy.

Laura:

Yeah, I like it too.

Xhafer:

We get a little bit about our characters and their relation and overlap

Xhafer:

with the arturian legend to close us out.

Xhafer:

This is a direct shot at people at the message boards who are doing this

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

. Shots fired.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

It's not like, it's not just the Arturian legend guys.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

He's like, it doesn't, it's not a perfect analog.

Xhafer:

You can't just assign characters like that.

Xhafer:

Who is Morgan Lafa?

Xhafer:

There isn't one That's why he says it.

Laura:

I like a Vaus.

Laura:

Or gne.

Laura:

That's a good one.

Xhafer:

All right, Laura, scale babylons one to five.

Xhafer:

How do you feel about this?

Laura:

I unapologetically love this episode and it is five out of five for me.

Xhafer:

Same.

Xhafer:

It's so good.

Xhafer:

Some

Laura:

I know there's silly shit.

Laura:

I know.

Laura:

There's like, how did he get this chain mail?

Laura:

How did he get that cape?

Laura:

How did he get it all on the spaceship?

Laura:

You know, there's . Lots of questions you can ask yourself.

Laura:

This episode is too fun to ask those questions, people

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

If you think that this is a bad episode of Babylon five, I think you're a hater.

Xhafer:

I said

Xhafer:

it

Laura:

I, think you don't like fun

Xhafer:

right.

Xhafer:

This is a very fun episode, and it's also a very real and very deep episode about

Xhafer:

the unbearable weight of unknowable grief.

Xhafer:

Like this episode is fucking heavy, but it does so in a way that is fun and.

Xhafer:

As relatable as you can make it.

Xhafer:

You know, you can't understand what he is going through.

Xhafer:

The, the grief has quite literally driven him insane

Xhafer:

where he cannot exist in reality.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

so he doesn't

Laura:

And I, I think it's beautiful where he's processing this with

Laura:

something, a legend so deep in

Laura:

the

Xhafer:

mm-hmm.

Laura:

and we are in the future.

Xhafer:

yeah.

Laura:

It's, it's a, a beautiful juxtaposition for us in

Laura:

the present to be watching.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

I think it's

Laura:

fun.

Laura:

I think that the b or c or whatever plot of the post office with

Laura:

this episode is two great tastes.

Laura:

The great taste great together.

Laura:

Like I love it

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

And I, I will not apologize for feeling this is a five outta five

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

Loved it.

Xhafer:

All right, next week, season three, episode 14, ship of Tears.

Laura:

Oh, okay.

Xhafer:

This is our first chance to compare Voodoo and Apple episode previews.

Xhafer:

Sheridan informs an uneasy alliance with a former nemesis.

Xhafer:

As free speech is curtailed back on earth, the shadows continue

Xhafer:

to expand their conquest.

Laura:

I have the same description except it.

Laura:

Mine ends with Walter Kig, guest stars.

Xhafer:

Oh,

Laura:

Yay.

Xhafer:

that makes me more excited.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Didn't

Xhafer:

I remember this episode now.

Laura:

from the description, I did not think Fester episode, but

Laura:

now I know it's a fester episode.

Laura:

Yay,

Xhafer:

same.

Xhafer:

I think this is the one I missed I

Xhafer:

was a kid.

Xhafer:

This is the one with all the telepaths and cryo storage?

Xhafer:

I think so.

Laura:

Well, we'll find it out soon,

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

This is the one I missed,

Laura:

All right.

Xhafer:

That I only saw for the first time two years ago when I did my rewatch,

Laura:

Fantastic.

Xhafer:

which is crazy because it's a huge plot point episode.

Laura:

Yeah, it, when buster's around, there's a lot of plot happening.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

All right.

Xhafer:

Well, we'll be back with that one next week.

Xhafer:

But before then, we'd like to say thank you, of course, to Jeremy

Xhafer:
