Words of Wisdom one 17 on heart-based transformation.
2
:Your wisdom, determines the
quality and potential of your life.
3
:You'll fall to the depth of your vices
and rise to the heights of your virtues.
4
:It is your inner life, your spiritual
maturity that is the foundation of
5
:your outer life, your relationships,
accomplishments, wealth and circumstances.
6
:James Clear wrote a compelling
book, atomic Habits, which has
7
:been the bestselling book on Amazon
for two of the last three years.
8
:In it, he writes you do not
rise to the level of your goals.
9
:You fall to the level of your systems.
10
:This is true.
11
:He goes on to say there are two types
of habits, outcome-based habits where
12
:people focus on what they want to
achieve and identity-based habits where
13
:people focus on who they want to become.
14
:He argues that identity-based
habits are far more powerful.
15
:Quote.
16
:The ultimate form of intrinsic
motivation is when a habit
17
:becomes part of your identity.
18
:It's one thing to say, I'm the
type of person who wants this.
19
:It's something very different to say
I'm the type of person who is this.
20
:James has this insightful mental
model to show the value of what
21
:he calls identity based habits.
22
:All three are necessary.
23
:Identity is based on what you believe
processes are, based on what you do.
24
:Outcomes are based on what you achieve.
25
:Go to Wise craft.org to see the
images in this podcast, and I do
26
:highly recommend Atomic Habits.
27
:However, as helpful as it
is, there's a danger here.
28
:I don't think James went far enough in
his book because he does not address
29
:wisdom or how we live out our moral
and ethical choices and habits, and
30
:he definitely doesn't touch on the
spiritual realm and discuss our desires
31
:for God, for his kingdom and the
spiritual war that is raging against it.
32
:Developing habits of going to
the gym, writing, meditating.
33
:These are all wonderful and
helpful for your flourishing.
34
:But if you focus only on behavior change
and ignore your relationship with God
35
:and how that forms your character,
then you are in dangerous territory.
36
:You'll not experience the fruit of the
spirit or the abiding presence of God.
37
:If you run your life on the fuel
of your own identity, you will
38
:not experience the deep love that
leads to radical transformation.
39
:If you direct your life solely on what you
want, you will not advance God's kingdom.
40
:There is nothing worse than
seeking your own selfish agenda.
41
:Instead of God's.
42
:Ignoring wisdom Then.
43
:James Clear missed a critical component.
44
:I believe at our core of
who we are is our heart.
45
:Our heart Scripture teaches
is what we want or our will.
46
:It is our desire that ultimately
defines us and directs who we become.
47
:So we need to focus on heart-based habits.
48
:When Jesus taught to pray for God's
kingdom to come, he was teaching
49
:his disciples to pray that what God
wants would be what His people want.
50
:God's kingdom is when what
God wants to happen happens.
51
:So a key aspect to
advancing God's kingdom.
52
:Is to see your heart change so that you
deeply desire God loving him first and
53
:above all, enabling you to love yourself
and others as you have been loved.
54
:This is such a radical thing that
Jesus described it as being born
55
:again or being born from above.
56
:As your heart goes, so your life goes,
as your desire is deepened and focused
57
:on God, your identity will be changed.
58
:If your heart is changed, if your
desire is purified and you quote,
59
:put first the kingdom of heaven, then
all the rest can fall into place.
60
:Your identity becomes aligned with the
spirit that created and empowers all life.
61
:Your processes can improve and
outcomes can be achieved, but
62
:if you don't address your heart,
63
:your growth will remain stunted.
64
:Scripture goes on to say that
the human heart without God's
65
:redemption is desperately wicked.
66
:This isn't popular to say, but it's true.
67
:Not only is your heart stunted,
but your twisted desires if they're
68
:not transformed, will sabotage your
efforts and lead to destruction
69
:if your core spiritual strongholds or
vices aren't transformed, you might
70
:change or stop a behavior, but your
vices, your twisted desires will still
71
:be influencing your heart and habits and
you'll never experience deep flourishing.
72
:Sure, you might stop looking at
pornography, for example, but
73
:you'll still struggle with intimacy.
74
:You might grow to where you aren't
compulsively doing a certain behavior,
75
:but rule by selfishness, fear,
resentment, and distorted thinking.
76
:You will never experience an
abiding sense of peace and
77
:unresolved conflict will plague you.
78
:Your specific wounded behavior patterns,
habits and addictions are important.
79
:It's necessary to address them
specifically, and they do have unique
80
:consequences, but more important than
your specific behavior patterns is
81
:addressing the system and the spiritual
dynamics that influences your behaviors.
82
:This is no small task.
83
:The early recovery community wisely
observed that addiction is quote.
84
:Cunning baffling powerful.
85
:Without help.
86
:They say it is too much for us,
but there is one who has all power.
87
:That one is God.
88
:May you find him.
89
:Now.
90
:This is from the book,
alcoholics Anonymous.
91
:First comes being then comes doing,
first comes dwelling with God.
92
:Then comes living out those
desires and doing the loving
93
:work of the Kingdom of Heaven.
94
:Quotes.
95
:You have made us for yourself, oh Lord.
96
:And our heart is restless
until it rests in you.
97
:By, augustine of Hippo
in his book Confessions.
98
:One thing I ask from the Lord this
only do I seek that I may dwell in
99
:the house of the Lord all the days of
my life to gaze on the beauty of the
100
:Lord and to seek him in his temple.
101
:Psalms 27, 4 Questions, what do you seek?
102
:Are you fundamentally seeking to dwell
in God's presence and pursue his kingdom?
103
:What are you seeking to grow and change?
104
:Are you seeking to grow and change fueled
by your own power or relying on God?
105
:Endnote.
106
:Seek God today while he may be found.
107
:Open your heart to whatever
God has for you in this moment,
108
:there is nothing more important.
109
:Desiring God and his will for your
life is the best use of your will.
