Shownotes

Kim Clark is back with another insightful episode of the Communicate Like You Give A Damn podcast, this time, joined by Public Speaker, Performer and Founder of The New Quo, Christina Blacken. Together, they uncover the power dynamics of narrative and the impact it can have on the workplace and DEI as a whole. In this episode, discover what narrative is, how it shapes the perspective of our behaviors and how it operates, both good and bad, in power structures within our society. As communicators, you’ll also learn how you can strengthen your narratives for your organization while supporting other employees in the face of shifting dynamics and creating safe spaces for narratives to flourish.

About The Guest:

Christina Blacken is a public speaker, performer, and founder of The New Quo. The New Quo is a leadership development and equity consultancy. She creates transformational learning experiences that challenge the status quo on leadership and behavior change, and teaches current and emerging leaders how to use their narrative intelligence, which is the power of story to change behavior, to identify and shift cultural stories and limiting beliefs about relationships, self-worth, and power so they can build deeper acceptance and trust within themselves and others. Christina helps organizations achieve status-quo breaking goals by turning their values of diversity, equity and inclusion into powerful policies, practices, and communication habits that create deeper connection and influence within a diverse group of individuals. She's applied this methodology to a variety of equity problems, from social media content moderation, to creating equity goals and practices for every area of a business, to helping companies create more inclusive language in their content and services. She's trained over 12,000 leaders across 9 industries, and has been featured in the NY Times, Forbes, Business Insider, and Nasdaq.com among other outlets. As an Utah native & NYC resident for 13 years, she knows more uses for jello than she’s like to admit.
