Well, so good to have Sean and Rusty on the podcast. How you guys doing today?
Rusty Roberts (:Very well, thank you, Keith.
Sean Murphy (:doing great. Thanks for having us here today, Keith.
Keith Haney (:We're good to have this conversation. It's always good to meet people who are in faith and use that faith to influence how they impact other people's life in the world. So I'm always excited to have this conversation. As a pastor myself, faith is one of my favorite things central to what I do. So glad to have you guys on.
Sean Murphy (:end.
Rusty Roberts (:Absolutely. Thanks for having us.
Sean Murphy (:this is gonna this is gonna be good company and a good conversation then
Keith Haney (:I think so. I'd love to ask my guests this question. We'll ask you first, Sean, and then we'll go to Rusty, and we'll go back and forth. But what's the best piece of advice you've ever
Sean Murphy (:best piece of advice ever received. It actually came through from my father and I ignored his advice until years later and I realized the wisdom that my dad had. He said, all your answers are in the Bible. Every answer you're looking for is found in the scripture. And Keith, the reason that it was so profound in way, the reason that was so important for my life is because I was seeking the world's way for way too long and it led me down the valley of
despair my man. But when I got into the scripture it changed my life. It changed my life.
Keith Haney (:That is so true because you get so much advice that's outside of faith that you find out that it was like there's something missing in this advice. It's not grounded in something I can sink my teeth into or my faith into.
Sean Murphy (:Amen. Amen.
Rusty Roberts (:For me?
Keith Haney (:Well now Rusty, you had a lot of time to think about it. You saw Sean's fabulous answers. I'm expecting that you had a really...
Rusty Roberts (:I did, I knew my answer, I know my answer very well. The best advice I ever got in my life, Jesus gave it to me. Matthew 22, 29, you're in error because you don't know the scriptures nor the power of God.
Sean Murphy (:you
Rusty Roberts (:When just like what John said if all the answers are in there you just need to know where to look the whole Bible is good for But for us in every way, but there's some laser focus scriptures that will absolutely change the way you think and fundamentally change who you are and Jesus gave me the best advice I ever had and I followed it and it's changed my life
Keith Haney (:I love that, love that. So Rusty, this is first one for you to kind of start you out now. Maybe I'll switch back to Sean. But think about your journey. Who were some people in your life who served as mentors or just inspired you? Tell us what made them special. And if you want to give them a shout out, here's your chance to do
Rusty Roberts (:Well, my father led me to Christ. He also gave me good advice, but also he gave me bad advice. He's no longer here, so I'll have to wait till we get to heaven to meet up with him. But he got me into entrepreneurship.
He did some things right he did some things wrong and he put us on a roller coaster of hey things are great Hey, things are horrible. Hey, things are great again But it did show me that when you when you're in entrepreneurship You can do things that other people cannot do
And that changed, the Lord used that. And when I got into the scriptures combined entrepreneurship together with the power of scripture, the power of our Lord Almighty, then I had the full, I had everything I needed. I lacked nothing.
Keith Haney (:Love that, Sean, your turn.
Sean Murphy (:Yeah, I'm going to go right back to my dad once again and kind of piggyback on what Rusty said. My dad did a lot of things right, but unfortunately he was one of those that was he'll figure it out. He knew the information. He knew the scripture. He knew Jesus Christ is Lord Savior. Unfortunately, my father passed away in November of last year and I never got to have that that reconciliation with him, but.
My dad was always right with the information, with the scripture, with the knowledge. He just didn't know how
do that in a loving manner that could help nurture and grow me and lead me. that's one of the reasons why I had to figure things out for so long now. I'm not passing all the blame onto my father because I was one stubborn SOB for a long time, Keith. But he was certainly one of my best mentors had I really listened to him and maybe if I had asked even more questions. But just like Rusty along my entrepreneurship career, I didn't really have
entrepreneur background and so I had to find it a lot of coaches and mentors along the way and so just a couple shout outs number one would probably be Zach Evan as she always taught us to lead from the front and always be a white belt always be there to learn you don't know at all if you are the most educated person in a room you're in the wrong room always be there to learn off of others and then another coach this was one who I fell into a place of desperation and
suicide attempt Keith back in: Sean Murphy (:For a long time I actually struggled with God because I was like, are I not doing things your way? Am I not doing things the way that you want? Are I not? Do you really want what's best for me? And unfortunately Keith, that was actually the wrong question. The question I should have been asking was, God, what is your best way? What does it mean for me to get in alignment with your will and your way versus me just going my own way and then expecting you to get in alignment with me?
my desires and my wishes. So those three gentlemen, my father, Zach Evinash, and then Lance probably had the most profound impact on not only my spiritual growth, but personal development as well. And just stepping into the roles that I am now. And now today though, Rusty is one of my mentors. I got to tell you, we've had some very in -depth conversations. We're always in the scripture together. And this is just one brother to another. We're feeding each other. We're bouncing ideas off of one
we are truly growing in every avenue of our lives and I say it's really the four F -bombs, your faith, your fitness, your family, and your finances. If you're not in a group that's talking about those four cornerstones, you're probably in the wrong group and you need to find that tribe.
Keith Haney (:I that. You know, I have a lot of entrepreneurs on my pockets. I'm not sure how it kind of worked out that way, but I love entrepreneurs. The common misconception I've run across about people who are not entrepreneurs, who don't really understand that mindset, is a lot of times there's a sense of, maybe it's our culture today, but there's this jealousy with entrepreneurs and their success. And the mindset that entrepreneurs somehow use shortcuts and they don't work hard, I'm just curious.
As entrepreneurs, how do you refute that misconception about what entrepreneurs
Rusty Roberts (:I'll tell you there's a huge difference when you sign your name on the front side of that check. When life, you know, I didn't make any money this week, but I'll be signed in the front of that check. When you do that, it changes every aspect of you. It's not fun to do when there's...
nothing on the horizon that looks good and you're staring into what I would call a black abyss of my future does not look good but I signed the front of the check anyway. You give up your assets literally you're pumping your assets everything you have into this dream and until you actually do that it's hard to understand it.
when times are good, it looks really easy. It's like you're on the Wheaties box, right? It looks really easy. But it's what defines you and what changes you is when you're on the, when the things don't look so good and the chips are down, there's not much going for you, but you still are positive and you're still making sure that everyone is taken care of before yourself. And I've been
Sean Murphy (:Yeah.
Keith Haney (:You
Rusty Roberts (:that position many, many, many times, where I...
I live my life detrimental to myself for the betterment of others. This is part of walking Psalms path. It really is. And I had a I had a I had my fair share of jealousy of others when things weren't so good for me and I'm watching people around me succeed. But you know what? The Lord addressed that in Psalm 37 6, I think, you know, do not fret when man succeeds in
way. So this is part of Psalm's path which we find in Psalm 37 1 through 8.
Sean Murphy (:Yeah, for me, Keith, I got a chance to work with Alex Hermosy early on in my gym business. This was actually shortly after a suicide attempt in 2017, and I needed to rebuild the gym.
And he truly helped me. mean, he pretty much broke my gym with the onslaught of new clients that he came for and through his marketing. But he said this, and this stuck with me. He said, people want you to do well in life. Everybody wants each other to do well, as long as you're not doing better than them. Once you kind of reach this threshold of doing better than others, this is where the envy, this is where the jealousy really comes into play. And unfortunately, just like Rusty said, you know, we live in this instant,
Instagram world where we only show the best side. We showed the best side of entrepreneurship. We showed the best side of our lives. We showed the best side of everything and that could cause a lot of envy and jealousy or whatnot but it could also on the on the other flip side cause a lot of pride and ego on our side as well. So but
I'm going to tell you, and as an entrepreneur and I know that every entrepreneur can relate with this, there are some horrific numbers out there when it comes to entrepreneurship that 49 % plus of entrepreneurs suffer with things like depression, anxiety, fear, know, anger, and even suicidal thoughts. And that number could actually escalate up towards 72 % when you get into these other areas of talking about imposter syndrome and scarcity and the whole nine. So it is a,
As an entrepreneur who is expected to be a visionary and who's expected to be a leader, you know, but you're still caught up with these things, these emotions that can really take a gripling hold of you. can be very hard to deal with those things. So then you have that that you're struggling internally, and then you have this external pressure of people are looking at you with jealous eyes and envy, you know, and all these things. It could be a very hard thing because you're pouring out. Like Rusty said, you're signed into front of the checks. You want to embedder other people's
Sean Murphy (:You know, both of our professions here, Rusty saves lives at Brio Medical and I was always in that place of, you know, let's help you feel better, look better, perform better in the gym environment. You know, we're here to better others. We're here to help people strive for their very best and grow and mature and do all these things. And so we're pouring out with a labor of love. And then you get hit with jealousy or envy.
and things of that nature, it can really take a toll on you. You could start feeling like, I really doing the right things? Am I really doing what God wants me to do? Am I really serving people or is this selfish ambition? And I know a lot of Christian entrepreneurs will really battle with that. Like what is the separator? What's the difference between godly ambition and selfish ambition, right? And that's a real struggle. you know, we do what we have to do though, Keith, is find truth behind
every story. When we find truth by in every story by seeking the truth, and there's only one truth that is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. When we seek Him and His truth, He will give us our identity. He will give us the grace. He will even give us the strength and sufficiency to show up in the manner that we're supposed to so that we can continue serving others as we're instructed to do in 1st Peter 4 10.
Keith Haney (:I love that. You know, and I'm curious, because this kind of leads into my next question. In your entrepreneurial journey, how have you integrated faith into your business success? Because a lot of times we see entrepreneurs, and you just mentioned some of the things they struggle with, it seems to me that faith plays a critical role in overcoming some of the issues that you would struggle with, the challenges, if faith is the background of what you do. And I love what you said, Rusty, about how you describe what you do, because it's
putting others first, is this a gapé form of love that you kind of did your entrepreneurial journey with? So I'm kind of curious how you guys integrate faith into your entrepreneurial journey.
Rusty Roberts (:If I can take the lead on that one, faith is my purpose for actually starting BrioMedical. I found in a verse that I grabbed onto in Psalm 37 verse 4.
through some life changes in:And so I took this scripture and I for two years my wife and I just started praying Lord we don't know what we want
Would you give us a desire? What a difference that was. That made that opened up doors, allowed me to take risks that I most people, including myself, would never have the hoots, but it take especially at my age. When I did this, I was like 48, 49. And, you know, now I'm 53 to take risks of this level at my age is not normal. But what it what?
Psalm 37 for told me was that if the Lord gives me this desire doesn't matter if I'm not qualified he'll do it for me and he told me in verse 3 and 5 what I took Psalm 37 back up real quick I took the Psalm 37 for as an invitation to co -create and I was like okay I see a huge opportunity
Rusty Roberts (:And my co -creation duties were found in verse three and five. And what the Lord was saying is trust in him, feed on his faithfulness, dwell in the land. They're a little abstract on what those duties are, but I dug into it, find out what those meant. He also said, commit your way and he'll bring it to pass. So I didn't have to be born on a certain side of railroad tracks. I didn't have to be white or black or brown
I didn't have to be rich or poor or good -looking. didn't none of that had anything to do with anything The Lord said I have a relationship I have through Christ I have an identity as this as a son of the Most High and He's giving me promises and as in Isaiah when he gives his word Nothing can stop it and I took a hold to that and said I'm gonna open up a
even though I'm not a doctor. I'm gonna open up a cancer clinic even though I've never even owned a lemonade stand. The Lord gave me this idea. He set it into motion. I'm gonna trust him. I'm gonna commit my way and now I own one of the top holistic integrative cancer clinics in the country. My name is not forgive my dog. She's a little rowdy over there. I wish she would stop.
wish it would.
So I knew that I could have my confidence not in myself because I had plenty of reasons to doubt myself. This is the difference. This makes all the difference in every one of our lives. It's not my strength or my resources in which these righteous desires and that's what I call them because the Lord gives our righteousness comes from the Lord and he gave me a desire. He'll give us desires.
Rusty Roberts (:And it changed everything. It gave me confidence and belief that literally could move mountains. And I was like, I'm starting to understand what Jesus was talking about in Matthew 22, 29. That when I dig into scriptures, the Lord's gonna give me the answers. And he put a lamp to my feet, which was, he showed me steps I needed to take. There were days that the math was so hard, Keith,
borrow some money. It was in:precise math imaginable and sure enough in the build the math came down to a day to a day and the Lord gave me he guided my steps he put a lamp to my feet and he'll do that to it for any of us it's absolutely stunning to see what a person can do when they acquire a righteous desire they know it's righteous and they trust in the Lord and they commit their way to him and
dig into the scriptures for those answers, there's nothing that can stop them. Nothing can turn back the right hand of God. It is incredible. So I say to my brothers and sisters, if you're looking, if you're in like what John and I call midlife misery, where you're regretting, right? You have all these regrets, like missed opportunities. Don't worry about that. Forget it. Forget about missed opportunities. Forget about
Regret you married the right person. You're the right color. You're the right sex. You're the right age. You're the right everything Take a hold to the identity that the Lord gives you right now is your opportunity right now is the only time we actually ever have You do this and the Lord will change who you are fundamentally and elevate you According that comes out of Ephesians 3 20 more than you think more than you ask because it comes
Rusty Roberts (:from the Lord's riches. There is no telling what you can actually still do in this life, regardless of any of the missed opportunities or things that you think you should have done. So put aside that midlife misery and take a hold of this identity. That's the key, the identity that the Lord gives us. It'll change your life.
Sean Murphy (:Yeah.
trying to take my own life in:strength. That was the cornerstone that was truly missing out. The Bible speaks about renewing our mind, training in godliness, you know, even having physical strength. Like the Bible still speaks about having strength in all areas. But if we do not have that cornerstone of our spiritual strength, it's all going to fall apart. And I know this from walking both sides now by making God my CEO of my life and my business and everything in between. I got to tell you that I'm operating out of peace for
is pressure now. And for an entrepreneur, for anybody really, when you can operate out of a place of peace and certainty, not in yourself, but because the Lord is going to come through because His promises are written in the Bible. we've, me and Rusty have had this conversation that a good entrepreneur
A good businessman will put his word in writing. You'll sign a contract. Well, God put his word in writing for every single one of us. He will not break his word. He will not break his promises. He will not break his principles either. And he will not break his people. And these things are very important to him. So we can find that strength and that resilience by leaning on him versus just relying on our work, relying on our own inner strength, relying on our own inner belief.
Sean Murphy (:We put our faith, we put our trust, we put our commitment, we put our work. There is work to do, but we put all of those things into the Lord and say, Lord work through me. I want to go your way. Forget about my way. Direct my feet, establish my plans, guide my path, right? And he will do these things by doing two things, trusted in him and committing our ways to him. And there's a third one waiting patiently for him. This is where that
This is where that resolve, this is where that peace will come from. Okay, Lord, I know what I need. You know what I need, but I'm going to wait patiently on you. I'm going to do my part. I'm going to do my work. I'm going to do the things that you have called me to do, but it's going to be in your time. And when I see the result, it's going to be in your time when I see the outcome. And this is one phrase that I like to say is letting go, let God, like as entrepreneurs or anybody in life, it's not mean and we sit on our hands and be praying. And then we just expect.
to hand the stuff, no, there is work to do. He instilled hard work right in the Garden of Eden, started with the first man, Adam. Like, God values work. So there is a part for us to do. However, Adam wasn't responsible for the growth of the plants. He wasn't responsible for the life, you know, the livelihood of the birds of the air and the fish of the sea and all the animals that crawled on the ground. God was in control of all that. But he was still called to name them. He was still called to nurture them and to, you know, do
work, work with His hands. God has called each and every single one of us to a specific work, and that falls in line with your skills, it falls in line with your passions, it falls in line with your experiences. But when you could take rest and say, okay God, I'm doing my part, I'm expecting you to come out on the other side with your part, because He made a promise that He will do these things, we could take peace, and we could have patience, and we could have all the fruits of the Spirit that we're supposed to have, so that we can
at full capacity in a manner that he wants us to. Not just for ourselves, but for our families, for our businesses, for our communities, for our churches, for our flock. Anybody that we come in contact with, he will give us that peace that resolve versus the pressure, the anxiety, the fear, all those things that tend to grip us and hold us back.
Sean Murphy (:Satan comes to do those things. If you're listening to the voice of pressure, guaranteed it's come from the evil one. If you have a position of peace, guaranteed you're walking the path of the Lord.
Keith Haney (:I love that. You guys use the term I want to go back to. You call, I'll talk about co -creators with God in your work. I'm sure people who aren't experts listen to this podcast are going, how do you know the certain between when it's God's divine invitation and you're trying to move forward with your business ventures at the same time? How do you kind of listen to the voice of God in the middle of your business decisions?
Rusty Roberts (:I think I can help out with that one. First of all, Sean and I created a course for this. offer a course. But just see this life preserver up here. Why is that there? I live in the middle of the desert. Why do I have a life preserver? Because Jesus gave us one of the best entrepreneurial examples when they were in a storm on a boat.
So now if those disciples had known what we know today, would they have done things differently? And would that would that story have an entirely different outcome? And I say yes. What Jesus was teaching us, especially entrepreneurs or any of his children, really any of his children, is peace in the storm. So he slept. So if the disciples knew what we know, what should they have done rather than like, yeah, wake up, Jesus, wake up, we're going to die.
They should have just taken a nap. And if the boat sank, they had all been bobbing around in the water and then were like, you know, well, what do we do now? And Jesus would have said, well, I guess we're walking from here. And they would have all walked on the water. Right. What a difference. This is our life. This is our businesses. Every day is not a good day. It's never going to be perfect conditions. Never. If you're waiting for them, then life will just pass you by.
The Lord is clearly giving us examples of resting in Him. Resting in Him does not mean literally sleeping. It doesn't mean avoiding conflict or avoiding trouble.
It means the Lord's got a life preserver for you. Just relax. It'll be okay. That takes away the anger. Because man, I know some angry entrepreneurs and I was one of them. I'd go back into the back park and I'd just drop f -bombs years ago. You know, no one would do, no one cared as much as I did. No one had as much at risk as me. And they still don't.
Rusty Roberts (:And why couldn't they just care as much as me? Because they don't have as much as I do at risk if things don't go right. And every entrepreneur knows this. And you can easily get very, very angry and have a lot of anxiety and not be able to live in the moment in peace.
So what the Lord is teaching us is that we need to rest in him and have patience on him. this is not an overnight learn. It is not quick. It's why Sean and I made a course because it's and it's why Psalms path is a path. Keith, it's Psalm 37 one through eight. It starts with do not fret and it ends with a double do not fret in verse seven. says do
in verse 8 says, these are bookends. Right? So I knew that we were in a closed loop here. All right. It is because when the Lord gives you a righteous desire and we train people on a pure biblical scripture on how to identify and even sculpt a righteous, a desire to make sure that it is righteous. Because Jesus clearly states that we ask anything in his name and I'm going to add the caveat.
righteous thing in His name it'll be done for you right not anything that we just concoct out of our own fleshly desires the Lord ignores those he clearly tells us that in in the book of James chapter 4 verse 1 through 3
But in these righteous desires, when we are walking them, the Lord clearly states in those seven, eight scriptures, things that are going to happen. Expect it. Things that are required of you, do them, right? And then what you can expect the Lord to do, make it come to pass. Regardless.
Rusty Roberts (:of how crazy it may seem. And by the way, it's going to seem crazy because righteous desires are designed to elevate us. They're beyond our physical capabilities. So in verse six, I believe, I'll make your righteousness shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday. This I walk this I know exactly what this is. Shadows are at their smallest at noonday. So your vindication is all of
people are like rusty you're stupid you're never going to be able to own a clinic you're completely out of your league and you're throwing all your money away your house everything that you've you've accomplished in life you're going to lose it all you're an idiot ignore them
If this is a righteous desire, ignore them. Do not listen to that because at the right time, the Lord's going to vindicate you. And that's what happened. Rusty, I never knew you could do it. Right. Congratulations. I didn't know you could do it. That's the vindication. That whole path is telling you what to do and what to expect along the way. What a beautiful, beautiful passage. It's a prophecy that David wrote.
prophesied into the full church today. And when people understand that this invitation is iron clad, the Lord will never go back on his word, then you can do things that others can't. So whether you're 20 or you're 50 or you're 70, if you're alive and you're a child of God, man, you have an invitation that you should be taking up on. Especially entrepreneurs, we should be living out righteous
And that's how I built my business. It's how Sean and I are working in sculpting SOMS path and any other business that we do. Does that make sense?
Keith Haney (:It does.
Sean Murphy (:I don't have anything to add to that Keith. I Rusty nailed it all there. Sometimes I do play second fiddle here with Rusty because he is just...
Rusty Roberts (:Good good.
Keith Haney (:Ha ha ha.
Rusty Roberts (:That was
Sean Murphy (:He's lived it, he's walked it, he models it, he still disciples me, Keith, and I would invite anybody that's listening to this podcast right now, rewind that, replay that, listen to that section again, because there are so many golden nuggets that Rusty just dropped. And then after you do that, leave Keith here, a five -star review, because we're having fun here. Let's go.
Rusty Roberts (:You
Keith Haney (:We are too. So you've mentioned your book, Psalm Path Book. Tell us about your
Rusty Roberts (:I wrote Psalm's Path because I wanted to start a new business with my oldest son and we wanted to sell t -shirts. And I'm like, man, that sounds easy compared to what, you know, opening up a...
holistic integrative Oncology clinic without ever doing it before selling t -shirts. It's gonna be a piece of cake, but I'm telling you Keith I couldn't get that pig off the ground It would not work. So I'm like, you know, I think I'm I think I'm missing something so I started praying to the Lord and I was like Lord, it's your business model. What do you want to do with it and He let me ask that for two months and then he came to me and he said I want growth
And I was like, okay, what does that mean? And he was silent.
Sean Murphy (:Ha ha ha.
Rusty Roberts (:Right? I say anything, right? Think about it, son. This is what he was telling me. Think about it. Well, what it was was that guys, the Lord told me, in an essence, I want growth, that my brothers and sisters in our churches do not know their identity. They don't know what I taught you, son. He showed me those scriptures. It was interesting. I caught, I'd read through the Bible maybe about three, three and a half times, but I didn't get the growth I was
looking for, but I did come across Psalm 37, 4, and the Lord opened my eyes. I had always taken it as a very immature way, which is, if you love the Lord, He'll just give you what you want. That's not true at all. It's not what He said. He said, I'll give you desires, not whatever you want, right? His desires are far better than ours, and I understood it. opened my eyes, and I was like, wait, those
Proverbs 3, or excuse me, Psalms 37.
three, four, and five are absolutely life -changing event scriptures. They really are. Those three passages of their life, life -changing. But the Lord said, hey, Rusty, I want you to help others learn what I taught you. It was interesting, from the time that I had that conversation with the Lord and he told me I want growth, he started feeding me through Instagrammers I was following. There'd be scripture that would pop
How in the world did I find every little scripture that pulled all of this together into this like it would it it would take it years years But I was able to pull it together in just a couple of months and what it was was that the Lord was using these Instagramers and they would drop a passage and I'm like wait a second I know what that means right and I would screenshot it and I wrote the book from it as all of these scriptures tied
Rusty Roberts (:to create this like laser focus change in life. Psalm's path is Psalms 37 one through eight and then supporting scriptures that still grow and evolve today. It still does beyond the book. You know now that I wrote the book and it's it's it's in it's in production right now to be published with a with a publisher but there's already things I would I rewrite the book. I would rewrite
Right? That's why Sean and I do a course because it's living and it changes and it gets more sophisticated where a book in print kind of stands alone and it stays that way. The course, the book is great, but the course is far more valuable, I believe. And it's not that costly at all. So that's what Psalms path is. It is a path that the Lord has given us that he offers
the ability to co -create righteous desires that he gives you and then he tells you things you got to do as a co -author and then he tells you what to expect along the way and he also says rest patiently and wait it's not going to happen overnight he's not just building a desire he's building you
And one of the things that I said on another podcast some time ago, and I'm going to share that with your listeners today is you may be shocked to find out that the Lord doesn't give a crap about your business.
He doesn't. He doesn't. He does not care about your business. He cares about you who owns a business. And I know this to be true because it comes out of book of Isaiah when the Lord's going to create a new heaven and new earth. And when he does, the former things will not even be remembered. We're not even going to remember our businesses. We're not even going to remember this earth or any of this. So why would he care about it? Because he cares about you. And he cares about you. And he wants
Sean Murphy (:Amen.
Rusty Roberts (:You to have an impact around people around you using your business for kingdom purposes now He cares this is why it's so important that if you own a business or you don't own a business whatever you're doing in life sculpt seek Chase and sculpt righteous desires wrap your life in and around these righteous desires because they're designed to elevate you and increase your sphere of influence in your impact on the world
you. That's how the Lord works. It's not just about you and you selling t -shirts. The Lord clearly stated that He didn't care if I sold t -shirts.
But he wanted it to be about growth. when the time was, he never said I couldn't sell t -shirts. In fact, it came to me later and he's like, you're going to sell a ton of shirts. And I will, in the Lord's name, for his kingdom and his purposes. We're going to sell shirts, very specific kingdom driven shirts. I can't wait. I look forward to it. But it'll be done his way his day. Does that make sense?
Keith Haney (:Yeah, it does.
Sean Murphy (:Yeah, and Keith, I'm a live example of the mentorship that Rusty spoke over me with Song's Path. I've been a gym owner for 20 plus years and in December of 2022, I decided to close it all down and step into the online ministry, not knowing what it was going to look like, not knowing.
what the end result was gonna be, any of it. And I just recorded a short reel for Facebook and in 28 days it went viral. It took my following from 2 ,000 to well over 100 ,000 people. It launched my online ministry and I was blown away. It gave me this one lesson, Keith, and that is when we step in obedience and we do just the smallest actions, God will take that small action and blow it up. Like, He'll make the miracle out of it, right? It's in God's hands.
new followers in December of:Going to launch a marketing agency, like that was my whole spiel back then. I'm gonna tie the ministry into a marketing agency. God had other ideas though too, so that's another story. But I'm on the phone with Rusty as a sales call, February of last year, and Rusty says, I don't need your help. And I'm like, great, so why are you on this call with me, right?
Keith Haney (:I don't need your help.
Sean Murphy (:but he starts mentoring me, Psalm's path. goes, I love what you're doing. I see what you're doing. You're walking Psalm's path. And by simply mentoring, the reason I'm sharing this with you and your audience is because when you realize what Psalm's path is, when you can actually get into these laser focused scriptures that Rusty is talking about, and you can live by them, you can actually start applying them and you can pray to God in a specific manner of aligning yourself with his will, aligning yourself with his purpose, aligning yourself with his calling.
And again, as you delight yourself in the Lord and you spend time with Him as Psalms path instructs.
He will start putting those desires on your heart and you will start seeing your life unfold in miraculous ways that you never saw coming. And I know this for a fact, because once I started applying these things, I was just like, okay, I'm letting go. I'm just going to allow the Lord to work in me. I'm going to allow him to take me where he wants me to go. It just that one reel just opened up to these new opportunities where I had other coaches reaching out to me saying, can you come into our group and share what you're learning? Can you share your faith and how this aligns with business?
Can you share your expertise on how you grew your influence and grew your reach? And of course I told them all I was like, look, I didn't do anything special. This was God. This was God's intervention. And some of them really wanted to hear that story, Keith. And others were just completely turned off. Like, yeah, right. Like you're hiding something. Like you're not going to reveal your marketing strategies. Fine. Don't share it with us. Right. But no, it was simply stepping into faith, stepping into obedience. But when you can rely on the scripture side, as we discussed
before, when you can read them, when you can eat them, when you can absorb them, when you become them, right? And you have full faith and trust in God that He's going to deliver. Again, you operate out of so much peace and power too. And I'm not talking about selfish power or self -power or self -confidence. I'm talking about the power of the Holy Spirit who operates within you to do great things, to call you and to act and do. I think that's found in Philippians 2 .13, right? Like He will call you to do certain things.
Sean Murphy (:cause you to act, right? But when you know these scriptures and you start doing them, again, I was in other people's coaching programs. I had a nonprofit reach out to me and said, we love what you're posting on Facebook. We'll pay you to write our content for our newsletter. You know, Rusty came to me and said, hey, I thought I was doing t -shirts, but I think we're going to do a consulting firm, right? Like, opportunity after opportunity after opportunity was handed to me, Keith, where I closed down the gym.
Rusty Roberts (:Right.
Keith Haney (:You know, Rusty came to me and said, hey, I thought I was doing t -shirts, but I think we're going to go consulting for a month.
Sean Murphy (:I don't know where my income is gonna come from. And then here's God saying, I gotcha. I know where it's gonna come from. And he just started putting me in different positions, in different places, in different opportunities. And it was all out of just obedience. It was all just out of faith. And so the reason I shared it with people is because they might be stuck and struggling right now. They might be going through that midlife crisis, that midlife misery, right? They're stuck and struggling. They just don't know. I'm gonna tell you that when you get into the scripture,
And you really just.
become the scripture. And you do this by a relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. So let's not forget that. And by the way, Keith, let me just interject this real quick. This is not a salvation by works thing that we're doing here. Has nothing to do with your salvation. I wanna make that very clear. Salvation is a gift. 100%, we can't do anything for that. However, we do have obligations. We do know that the Lord likes work. We do know that in 1 Timothy chapter four, verses seven and eight, he talks about train yourself.
and godliness because it has value for all things.
both present here on this side of the eternity as well as the afterlife. And then what we do here does matter. It matters for our wards, it matters for our assignments later on to kingdom. Now that's going little deeper than what I think we're gonna dive into here today. But what we do here on planet earth matters. It matters to God and it matters so much a fact that he's given us these scriptures to act accordingly. And there's really three steps and I'm just gonna lay them out in case your listeners just wanna grab a notebook and take these notes.
Sean Murphy (:do. Number one, seek ye first the king of the God and all his righteousness. Matthew 6 33 that's step one. Step two, renew your mind.
Romans 12 to forget the worldly program, forget the worldly ways, be transformed by the renewal of your mind. And then number three, training godliness. Again, that's for the first Timothy chapter four, verses seven and eight. If you do those three things, I guarantee you're going to see God start working in your life and ways that you never saw common.
Keith Haney (:But you guys didn't make up those three. Those three all come out the Bible.
Sean Murphy (:Amen. Come on.
Rusty Roberts (:They all did. I got three scriptures that I think will change people who they are.
And that is first, Matthew 22, 29, which states that when you know the scriptures, you'll see the power of God. John chapter 15, verses seven and eight, when you abide in him and he abides in you, your words abide, his words abide in us, then we can ask anything we desire. It'll be done for us. That is incredible. And then there's another one, Mark 9, 23, ask anything in my name, it'll be done for you.
So there's some caveats there that you got to really dig into because most Christians do not see that their reality. They don't have that belief. They don't know or they've asked things in Jesus name and they don't get it. And it's either Jesus is a liar.
or you're missing something. And we, and I believe you're missing something. And Jesus clearly stated that we're missing something. And also in the book of Hosea, I think it's verse chapter six, verse four, my children are destroyed from a lack of knowledge. So we do not possess the correct amount of knowledge out of the scriptures and we're destroying ourselves. We have all of these problems that we call
like misery. But everyone is suffering. The church is not exempt from it. And it's because we don't know the scriptures. But when we do, we'll learn how to ask things that he says yes to. And that will actually build that belief in us that if he wants us to move a mountain, it'll be done. Imagine the impact a person's life has when they no longer thinking about
Sean Murphy (:Mm
Rusty Roberts (:what could have been instead of what will be. Imagine what will be. Who they are and the impact. The Lord definitely, I know that I said earlier, we're not gonna remember this place because we won't. But what we do here has tremendous impact. But what you do here for yourself means nothing, right? It means nothing, because no one's gonna remember. But what you do for the kingdom,
Sean Murphy (:man.
Rusty Roberts (:will be eternal and has immense implications for your life and everyone else's life around us. So, Psalm's path, Psalm's path consulting and the reason why Sean and I felt that it was important to take it from a book to a course. Because the course is alive and changing and new ideas, new understanding, new scriptures come in as Sean and I continue to dive into scriptures and have a daily relationship with our Lord.
Sean Murphy (:Amen.
Rusty Roberts (:us new thoughts and new ideas. Imagine that. And we share that. So we'll continuously be updating our course material. But I'll tell you this, Keith. It took me from 2017 to today to learn what I know now. But I can teach it in an
Sean Murphy (:Amen.
Rusty Roberts (:I can teach it in an hour. And it's like, took me so long. I just didn't have that mentor and I had to walk through it, but I can teach it. John knows that we can both teach it. It's such a short period of time. So I strongly urge your listeners, take advantage of it. You don't have to spend 10 years of your life trying to learn these things. Grab a mentor. Those people who do the biggest things
Keith Haney (:Yeah.
Rusty Roberts (:life they usually have a mentor. If you don't have one, Sean and I we provide a course we're happy to be mentors for you.
Sean Murphy (:and then.
Keith Haney (:I love that. I'm curious as we kind of wrap this up, and this has been a phenomenal conversation, I am curious as you reflect on the impact you're having, what do you want your legacy to
Rusty Roberts (:Wow.
I know the Lord has not only led me to starting one of the top holistic integrative cancer clinics in the country, but he's also identified that the reason it was so daunting to do this is because there's only about three, maybe five doctors in the country that understand cancer the way that the country needs them to understand it. The more you understand cancer, the more integrative you'll go,
Which means that you'll take the best of conventional and marry it together with the best of natural and you'll get the best results. I have one of the top, the top doctor in the country that knows how to do this. It doesn't mean he's Jesus. He has long hair and a beard like Jesus, but he's not Jesus. So we're not batting a thousand percent, right? But he's phenomenal at helping people overcome cancer.
but he also likes to teach.
So one of the things the Lord has laid on my heart is and his apparently is to create a fellowship. So it's not just about creating a clinic. It's about creating maybe a thousand doctors between now and the time that I'm no longer here. If the Lord waits, I'd love to have a thousand or two thousand doctors that are highly proficient at integrative oncology. This is this will save
Rusty Roberts (:tremendous amount of lives and when we do this we pour in into them just discipleship and understanding who the Lord is and Jesus is right so to understand the identity that we have through Christ we share that in our clinic we'll be sharing that in our fellowships so I probably have five businesses left in me and I'm 53 now and I go I probably have another 20 25 years so I'm short on
I'm short on time.
But the Lord has put tremendous amounts into me and Sean, God bless you, Sean. Sean's been physically building up bodies for years. And I let mine go as I poured myself into others and I did not care. Well, now I'm fat and out of shape. Sean's like, we gotta fix that. And I'm like, I gotta have a body that I can interact with. When you're gone, you don't build businesses. You don't do those things. So we need to be good stewards of our bodies as well. So thank you, Sean. Thank you for a
He's been a great mentor to me as well and it's why the Lord put us together. that's what I I have such tremendous hope and excitement for the future. I still have concerns. I do not live in a fake utopia by any means, but I'm able to handle very very heavy burdens and relax through them as the Lord
has said, I got this, right? You know, that old let go and let God, I do have this. It is a skill. It is a skill that can be learned through knowledge and repetition on doing certain things on a daily basis that we teach in our course that'll allow people to do things they could never have done on their own right. So the future is bright, Keith. The future is very, very bright. And every one of God's children should think
Sean Murphy (:It is.
Rusty Roberts (:the same.
Keith Haney (:Same question, Sean, what do want your legacy to
Sean Murphy (:Yeah, I love it and I love what Rusty has going on with Brio. I love the legacy, the impact, the drive, the ambition, all these things that he's created. I know it extends further than just a medical community. I know this is going to have a profound impact on his own family. It'll have a profound impact on the clients and the patients that they serve and their families. So that legacy will spread. And mine just comes down to John chapter 15 verse eight that says,
I gotta tell you my father, I don't want anybody to feel like I talk smack about because that was certainly not my intent, but I attended his funeral. spoke at his funeral and I gotta tell you. I saw his fruit.
I saw his fruit by being a, he was, he was a deacon of the church. He was doing financial ministry. He led people in ways that I never got to really witness because it was all done in private. My man was a man of fear or my father was a man of few words, yet he spoke volume. He spoke loud and clear because he was backed by our heavenly father. He spoke through the conviction and through the confidence that Jesus Christ offers. And so when I'm speaking in front of a church.
Hundreds of people were there, right at this congregation at this at this funeral for him and every individual that was sitting in those seats had some type of impact from my father. They had some type of relationship with him through his service of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a disciple 100 % hands down. I know that but he bear much fruit and one thing that I have come to terms with is when we bear much fruit Keith, it's not
us. An apple tree does not bear apples for its own good, pleasing. Look at what I've got. I've got all these apples. No, it lets it go. Why? To feed us. To feed the nature. And then those rotten apples that spread across the ground plant seeds to grow new trees.
Sean Murphy (:But the soil has to be there for that. But that's another topic. But that's really the legacy. I'm here is that I've done things for so long, for so wrong in my own life, Keith, that it was all about selfish ambition. It was all about my way. What am I going to get? How am I, you know, what's in it for me? I'm letting those things go today. It's more about I want to be that example. I want to be that example for my family. I want to be that example for my children. I want to be that example for my community. I want to be that example for others.
who truly have this same type of calling on their heart. They know that they're called to something bigger. They know they're called to a higher purpose. They know that there's a void that's just inside of them and they just don't know how to reach it. I'm here to tell you that it's gonna be through our Lord and Savior. It's gonna be through service of others. It's gonna be coming
bearing good fruit, showing yourself to be a disciple. To me, that's the impact. That's the legacy. And if it's a small cornerstone in my own little local community, if it's in my own little church, so be it. That's God. That's for God to decide. If it's something bigger and more like Billy Graham level, I'm here for it. Okay. So, but anything in between I'm good with as well. I'm leaving it God's hands. What does that legacy look like? What does that impact look like? But I'm here to do the work and I'm here to follow
lead and I'll close it by saying this if anybody wants to lead in their lives and Keith we're all called to be leaders we're all called to whether it's father ship mother ship business entrepreneurship church pastorship whatever it looks like we're all called to be a leader in some capacity or other but if you are going to step into that role of being a strong leader you must be an excellent follower first and the number one person you can follow is your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
Rusty Roberts (:Amen.
Keith Haney (:great answers. As we wrap this up today, what takeaways do you want the audience to walk away from our conversation?
Rusty Roberts (:You wanna go ahead, Sean?
Sean Murphy (:Yeah, the takeaway is this. For me, it was stop relying on yourself. Two things I want to say about that. Stop believing in yourself. We didn't get to really dive deep in that, but there is the center most scripture in the Bible. I believe it's Psalm 118 that says I'm going to open it up. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.
Stop the hole. believe in myself. I'm going to build this self confidence. I'm just going to believe even more. No, no, no, no, no, Let that go. Start putting your trust and your faith in the Lord. Start trusting in Him. And number two, stop lying to yourself. If you are caught up in a situation today, if you're caught up in misery, if you're caught up in pain, if you're caught up in self -sabotage, if you're caught in this stuck and struggling and vicious cycle and you're continuously passing blame to others, you're passing blame on your circumstances and your situations. You're passing blame
the past. Keith, I could be passed the blame onto my father all day long, but I've learned to forgive him. I've learned that he was a man who had flaws. I've learned that he was a man who was constantly in the Bible building himself. One of the books that I found was all on personal development called The Man in the Mirror. I found these things after my dad had passed, so I came with a forgiving spirit to say my dad was not perfect. None of us are. We're all working on ourselves, or at least we should be aspiring to be working on ourselves, but we do this through the Spirit.
We do this through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. So learn to let go, let God. Learn to stop lying to yourself and also forget this whole mentality of believing in yourself. Start trusting, put your commitment and start leaning on God for everything. That's what I want to walk out of here today with.
Rusty Roberts (:Amen.
And I would add to that that the Lord has called each one of us to truly understand our identity. This is the same commission that Jesus said, go and make disciples of all nations. And disciples don't lack anything. Jesus asked them, sent you out with nothing. Did you lack anything? And they said, we lack nothing, So even though in scarce resources, and there's resources will always be scarce.
You don't have to lack anything and the Lord truly calls us do not be afraid, do not be afraid. So if you're struggling with anxiety, depression, regret, remorse, you're having a midlife misery, what we call that, forgive yourself.
Go in and don't look at the Lord says no one's fit for the plow that looks behind them. So we're to be looking straight ahead and the Lord is calling us to greatness and saying, I want to lift you up. I want to do things for you. But we have to learn the way the Lord operates. He's not gonna do it the way you want it done.
He's clearly laid it out in his scriptures. He didn't stutter like Sean said it's like a contract hold him to it Hold his feet to the fire and you'll find that he will he is true He is honest and he is immovable and when he gives you a promise he keeps it every time Every time it's simply it's done his way not yours So when you know the scriptures, you'll learn how he operates how he does
Rusty Roberts (:And you'll become an elevated disciple lacking nothing who changes the world around us and Sean and I found this out on an ending note. We found this out that 89 % of the church does not know their higher calling. It's like wow. We are failing. If they don't know their higher purpose. Oh my gosh, it's right there in the Bible. Why does any church not know their higher purpose?
This is it. The Lord want your higher purpose is to be a disciple who lacks nothing, who walks in complete victory. And every aspect of their life is free and free indeed. If you do not know these things, it's time to take a hold of it. I would say reach out to us through PsalmsPath .com. our course. don't even charge that much for it. We've made
brainer, you can go and learn 10 years what it took 10 years and we're talking Sean's not the only one who thought about committing suicide. I too thought about it because I was I was in serious lack and I listened to I listened to the evil one who tried to steal the righteous desire and and so how many of us are are dealing with depression or anxiety or other mental mental
It's time to be set free of them. It's time to loose those chains come come hang out with us We will zoom you through a process That is that took years to do and you can do it in such short period of time and start seeing Positive results in your life. So Psalms pat .com is a good place to go. You could also go over to Instagram Which it's easier to find people on Instagram that it is Facebook. It's kind of strange that way but Psalms
on Instagram is a good place to connect with us, right Sean?
Sean Murphy (:Absolutely. And if they have any questions for us, just DM us on Instagram. But it is Psalms Path. No special characters, anything like that. Psalms with an S, Psalms Path. And you'll see my smiling picture there. And you can connect to us with there. But yeah, you can get the course at PsalmsPath .com. And we're currently building our YouTube channel, TikTok, all the other social media. It'll all be under Psalms Path eventually. But right now, those are the two places to connect with
to most but yeah I'm gonna close with this one statement you can be saved yet still be a slave.
You could be saved, yet still be a slave here on earth. And this is why Paul wrote about so often and in so many different ways about being renewed of the mind. When we are born again, our souls are cleansed. Our souls are pure. Our souls are sanctified. Yeah, we're still in the same flesh. We're still with the old mindset. We have to overcome our limited beliefs, our false stories, the satan's deception. As he writes about, I think it's in first Corinthians 11, three, if I remember right, that may not be the
the exact scripture, but he talks about, I am concerned that your minds may be somehow led astray from the serpent's cunning, just as Eve was. The same, he's always on the prowl, he's always at the ready, our minds are at the battlefield. We gotta overcome these things so that we can live in victory and freedom that Jesus Christ had come here to say, I have come that you might have life more abundantly. It's in all areas, my friends.
Rusty Roberts (:Amen.
Keith Haney (:Well, Rusty and Sean, thank you so much for you both adding some awesome content to the podcast and blessings on what you do. Your faith and your trust in God just comes oozing through the podcast. And I'll leave you with a comment one of my podcast guests just recently shared with me. May you guys go around and sparkle Jesus wherever you go in your work. That's my favorite new, that's my favorite new phrase of the year.
Sean Murphy (:Yes, let's go. That's what we're all called to do, Keith. Amen.
Rusty Roberts (:Amen.
Rusty Roberts (:Amen. Thank you, Keith.
