But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
Jesus. Matthew 6:6. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 5 of 30 Days on the Mount of Blessing, PT 2.
Jesus’ remedy for reversing our runaway self-worship is to send us into a quiet, unseen space. A space where the truth will come up. A place away from the lights and applause. A place away from the likes and shares. A place where we can sit alone—with him. A place where we can hear—a different voice. His. A place where we can connect with the One deeply longing to make our broken lives truly beautiful. The outcome of these private sessions is always felt. Felt by the one who has escaped to the quiet. Felt by those with whom this one intersects in the course of the day. It is in this quiet space with God that good for goodness sake is born—to be lived out in the isles and streets of the day’s agenda.
