Speaker:

Hey everybody.

2

:

It is officially that day.

3

:

It's election day, final

data Castro ballot.

4

:

Yep.

5

:

Final day.

6

:

And, and we're going to call it right now.

7

:

We've got all the votes in.

8

:

We've got a hundred percent in

and here here's here's the result.

9

:

Let me just tell you what's going

to happen for, with confidence.

10

:

Yep.

11

:

Zero margin of error here.

12

:

Yep.

13

:

Here here's the results.

14

:

I know Jesus wins.

15

:

Yep.

16

:

There it is.

17

:

I was wondering he's on the throne.

18

:

He rules.

19

:

He reigns no one has dethroned him.

20

:

He remains no matter who's in the office.

21

:

Undefeated.

22

:

On defeated.

23

:

Undefeated.

24

:

Jesus.

25

:

Yeah.

26

:

Yeah, no, and that's true.

27

:

And that is a comfort to us.

28

:

No matter what the election

results are today and a.

29

:

Let me just encourage you.

30

:

Especially parents.

31

:

Uh, your kids are watching you

as you watch these results.

32

:

Come in.

33

:

Uh, and so bear that in mind, um, or if

you're watching him with your neighbors

34

:

or whatever, You are a witness for,

for your, your faith in God right now.

35

:

And your faith in God, as pastor

rod was just saying is not anchored

36

:

to the person that's going to end

up in the oval office after this.

37

:

I understand desires.

38

:

I understand.

39

:

Hey, it would be better if this scenario

happened to believe me, I get that.

40

:

I fully embrace that and agree with you.

41

:

However, um, we need to not just

preach that before the election, but

42

:

we need to preach that afterwards too.

43

:

No matter what happens, no matter

who is the Victor here today.

44

:

I understand that, that your testimony

has to continue to remain faithful

45

:

and constant, no matter what.

46

:

And so we, we need to be,

we need to be steadfast.

47

:

Uh, we need to be not unsteady tonight.

48

:

We need to not be anxious.

49

:

We need to not be burdened.

50

:

Uh, with things that are

bigger than what are ours to.

51

:

To to control.

52

:

God has not given it to any of us to

control the outcome of this event.

53

:

Other than to say, Hey, I cast my vote.

54

:

It's in his hands.

55

:

And, uh, and the, the one that's

gonna win is, is part of his plan

56

:

for what's going to happen here.

57

:

So keep that in mind, your kids

are gonna watch you, uh, your

58

:

neighbors are gonna watch you.

59

:

They're gonna listen to you and

listen to the things that you say.

60

:

And, uh, and we're called

to be salt and light.

61

:

Um, and so we need to be

that as we see these results

62

:

rolling later on this evening.

63

:

Yeah.

64

:

I saw a video of a guy that went

to go vote and he was wearing a

65

:

hat that said, let's go Brandon.

66

:

And one of the poll

workers was upset with it.

67

:

She says, you can't wear that in here.

68

:

You, you can't, you can't

vote wearing this hat.

69

:

And he says, it's my

right to wear this hat.

70

:

I can wear this.

71

:

This is America.

72

:

You can't tell me to take it off.

73

:

Did you see this one at all?

74

:

So she gets up in a tizzy, of course,

at this point, both passions are flaring

75

:

this guy and it doesn't help at all.

76

:

This guy's a Caucasian gentleman and

the woman that's arguing with them.

77

:

I mean, most of the

staff there were, were.

78

:

African-American.

79

:

Yeah.

80

:

So now you have this other dynamic that's

adding to it and making it feel much more.

81

:

I mean.

82

:

This is awful.

83

:

It was awful to watch.

84

:

So he gets upset.

85

:

Get this, the poll worker.

86

:

She takes a swing at it.

87

:

And she makes some contact.

88

:

I mean, it wasn't a great hit, but

she makes you took a swing at, it.

89

:

Strikes him in the face.

90

:

At this point, he gets here.

91

:

He starts squaring up.

92

:

Now I don't know what he's going to do.

93

:

He doesn't, he doesn't

like square up and start.

94

:

You know, lining up his re his

fist or anything, but he's, he's

95

:

walking toward her and there's

now ladies, they're all ladies.

96

:

I didn't see a guy in the thing.

97

:

And if there was a guy there shame on

you for not stepping in between them.

98

:

Right.

99

:

But he starts whirling up to her and

he's like, you can't do that to me.

100

:

So he takes his hat throws into

the hallway and she says, no,

101

:

you can't leave that there.

102

:

You gotta go pick that up now.

103

:

So I was like, I can't win.

104

:

I can't vote.

105

:

So let me encourage all y'all.

106

:

Please don't wear a, let's go branded hat.

107

:

Let's start with that.

108

:

That's not, that's not helpful

to your Christian, but you know

109

:

what hat you could wear though.

110

:

Is there any hat that you could think

of pastor patient that might be helpful?

111

:

Like a compass Bible, church hat.

112

:

That's a good hat.

113

:

It's a good quality hat.

114

:

It's a good looking hat.

115

:

It could represent your church

and more importantly, represent

116

:

Christ as you go and vote.

117

:

That'd be a great thing.

118

:

Please don't fight the poll workers

would encourage you not to do that.

119

:

Uh, but please be, don't be

unnecessarily offensive at the same time.

120

:

That would be a good idea.

121

:

Yeah.

122

:

Yeah.

123

:

Yeah.

124

:

Exactly.

125

:

So many reasons, so many reasons why.

126

:

It was a bad video.

127

:

Um, unfortunate.

128

:

Yeah, I mean, Yeah, let's go Brandon.

129

:

Right?

130

:

I, again, being above reproach that we're

going to talk about that with the men

131

:

in the spring, we're going to do a brand

new study with our men's Bible study.

132

:

Right?

133

:

Yeah, qualified, qualified for colony.

134

:

The qualifications of being a

man of God above reproach, right?

135

:

I mean, We all know what let's go,

Brandon references and what it stands for.

136

:

I think at this point, most people do.

137

:

Yeah.

138

:

And.

139

:

And if you don't be careful looking it

up in a place where there's little ears.

140

:

Exactly.

141

:

Yeah.

142

:

And so if you wouldn't wear a hat with

what that phrase actually is supposed

143

:

to represent, what are you doing?

144

:

Wearing the hat with the phrase on it?

145

:

Uh, that that says, let's go,

Brandon, you're conveying the

146

:

same thing you're causing everyone

around you to think that word.

147

:

And in the, bring that to mind,

that's an example of what it

148

:

is not to be above reproach.

149

:

And it seems innocuous because

you're like, oh, well it's a joke.

150

:

And it doesn't say the word.

151

:

And so it's okay.

152

:

No, it's not.

153

:

Yeah.

154

:

It's still.

155

:

The appearance of evil is, is all over it.

156

:

And we're as Christians

called to be different.

157

:

We're called to stand out from this.

158

:

Yeah.

159

:

Yeah.

160

:

You know, you expect vitriol from,

from people, certain people camps.

161

:

Um, and it's not in the Christian camp.

162

:

Christians are called to love her enemies.

163

:

And I man, as much as we

might try to get around that.

164

:

Uh, loving our enemies means

that we respect people as image

165

:

bearers, even if we vehemently

vehemently disagree with them.

166

:

And that's not to say that if we

actually had real tyranny or there

167

:

was real threats to life and limb.

168

:

That we wouldn't defend our families or

defend our churches, but man, certainly

169

:

the way that Christian speak in a

context like that is going to speak

170

:

volumes to what you believe and who

you believe is really ruling the world.

171

:

Totally.

172

:

I would agree.

173

:

Yeah.

174

:

Yeah, let's jump into our text to them.

175

:

Matthew 22, by the way, if you're

tuning in tomorrow to find out

176

:

from us who won the election.

177

:

Um, you're gonna have

to wait until Thursday.

178

:

Well, we even know Thursday though.

179

:

I don't know.

180

:

Who knows.

181

:

I don't know that.

182

:

So if you're tuning into us to find out

who won the election, Ah, there's better.

183

:

There's better options.

184

:

Options.

185

:

For that.

186

:

I wouldn't talk about the Bible.

187

:

All right.

188

:

Hey Matthew, 22, the

wedding feast, parable.

189

:

Uh, this one opens up verses one

through six with the rejection of

190

:

an invitation that Jesus sent and

the, the, the abuse of the servants,

191

:

the murder of some of them as well.

192

:

This is a, this is pointing to.

193

:

At least in my opinion here.

194

:

Uh, the profits in the fact that Jesus

is alluding to the, to the reality

195

:

that God had sent the invitation.

196

:

He had issued the call to Israel time and

time and time and time and time and time

197

:

before, and Israel had rejected and even

abused and murdered some of his messengers

198

:

that he sent with this invitation to be

restored to a right relationship with him.

199

:

Well, that rejection verses seven

through 10 of, of the rejectors or

200

:

that rejection is going to lead to

the rejection of the rejectors there.

201

:

Um, and the inviting the

invitation of the unexpected.

202

:

Jesus says, forget it.

203

:

Then I'm not inviting you guys

to this wedding feast anymore.

204

:

You know what we, we need the halls

filled anyways, go to the highways, go

205

:

to the byways, go to the hedge ways.

206

:

Go in and bring in the people that you

would least expect to show up at a wedding

207

:

and have them come in and sit there.

208

:

Uh, and, and be a part of this.

209

:

And so that's the gist of this.

210

:

And that's the part that is, is

shows up in, in parallel accounts.

211

:

For example, in Luke 14.

212

:

But then Matthew throws in this unique.

213

:

Uh, part in verses 11 through

14, where he talks about.

214

:

The, uh, wedding guests that shows

up not dressed for the wedding.

215

:

And there's a couple of

different views on this.

216

:

Uh, the one view that I've heard

preached before is that the host was

217

:

responsible for providing wedding

garments to those that came and attended.

218

:

The problem with that is we, we don't

necessarily have any historical precedents

219

:

for that, that we can point to, to say,

Hey, here's an example of, uh, that being,

220

:

uh, a tradition during this timeframe.

221

:

And so I, I get it, it preaches, you

know, w we get our guard, we get our

222

:

righteousness from God, but I think we

might be reading a little bit of a more.

223

:

Developed eschatology into Jesus'

parable here than, than existed at the

224

:

time for them to be able to understand.

225

:

Instead, I think what, what this

is pointing to is that the people

226

:

that were invited the implication

is they would've gone home.

227

:

They would've cleaned themselves up.

228

:

They would've put on their, their

wedding clothes and they would

229

:

have showed up to the feast.

230

:

And here you have a guy that

hadn't bothered with that.

231

:

He had just come in,

straight off the street.

232

:

He had come in with his

grubby work clothes.

233

:

He had not come in.

234

:

Uh, prepared for this.

235

:

He had not taken care of himself at all.

236

:

This I think is what this is

doing is representing that.

237

:

That concept of easy believism that

man, I can, I can show up to the

238

:

wedding dirty and tottered in, in,

in the, the, with the worldliness

239

:

dripping off me and it doesn't matter.

240

:

Because, you know, I got the

invitation that's issued to all.

241

:

So here I am.

242

:

I'm here.

243

:

The wedding.

244

:

And so what Jesus is doing

is saying, Hey, you don't.

245

:

You don't belong here.

246

:

You, you, I don't know how you got in,

but you shouldn't be here without having.

247

:

Without looking the part.

248

:

And again, not that we're earning our way

into heaven, but, but there is a measure

249

:

of that when we are invited to the, to

the feast and we respond, then, then we.

250

:

We.

251

:

Pursue this, this, uh, the sanctification.

252

:

Um, This, this holiness, this godliness

throughout the rest of our lives there.

253

:

Uh, and so we, we enter

into heaven and yes, our

254

:

righteousness comes from God, but.

255

:

I think that's what's going on here.

256

:

PR your thoughts on, on that.

257

:

Yeah.

258

:

I'd be inclined to agree.

259

:

And I, I think of this in terms

of how Paul develops the, the, I

260

:

don't know what you'd call it, his

understanding that the geology of

261

:

living worthy of the gospel of Christ.

262

:

Yeah.

263

:

I would put this in that category and I,

I, yeah, I could be wrong in this, on, I'm

264

:

not going to pound the gavel and say for

sure, this is what it is, what it means.

265

:

This guy lacked something.

266

:

What that something is it's probably

subject to debate, but I think this

267

:

is a matter of living worthy for

Christ, Christians who have embraced

268

:

their justification will of necessity.

269

:

embracer sanctification, which is

going to look a lot like saying

270

:

I want to live worthy of Christ.

271

:

I want to run in such a

way that he's pleased.

272

:

I want to be dressed in a

way that it pleases him.

273

:

And that even extends quite literally

to the way that you dress people.

274

:

I mean, I was just talking to the

students about this on Wednesday.

275

:

Uh, living as salt and light, and Jesus

calls us by the identity of salt and

276

:

light and salt and light must have

an impact on the world around it.

277

:

Or he says, if you're not

salty, then you're just going

278

:

to get tossed in the grounding.

279

:

Deduct, stepped all over.

280

:

There's a value list, kind

of discipleship there.

281

:

And so the point I think is

that we need to be dressed in

282

:

the righteous robes of Christ.

283

:

Yes.

284

:

But that's going to have a very

practical effect on the life of the

285

:

Christian, which is going to result

in us living worthy of Christ.

286

:

Yeah, I think we see this in a, in

first John three, two and three.

287

:

Uh, first John three,

two and three beloved.

288

:

We are God's children now.

289

:

And what we will be has not yet

appeared, but we know that when

290

:

he appears, we shall be like him

because we shall see him as he is.

291

:

And here's John's conclusion there.

292

:

And everyone who thus hopes in him

purifies himself as he is pure.

293

:

And so there's that active?

294

:

We want to beat with Jesus.

295

:

We want to be where he is.

296

:

And, and yes, ultimately we have the

purification that is going to be ours in

297

:

Christ, ultimately, but in the process,

in the meantime, in the interim to

298

:

get there, Uh, we, we want to purify

ourselves as much as we can because he

299

:

is pure because of our love for him.

300

:

Like we talked about

on Sunday, we love him.

301

:

We want to be more like him to be more

like him means we need to fight sin

302

:

in, grow in godliness and holiness.

303

:

There.

304

:

Alright verses 15 through 22,

we start to talk about taxes.

305

:

So again, here, this

confrontation wants more.

306

:

We've covered it.

307

:

I think mark 12 already, Luke 20.

308

:

Uh, it shows up there as well, but

this confrontation once more reveals

309

:

Jesus's shrewdness and so they come

to him and they say, Hey teacher,

310

:

um, uh, do we, do we pay taxes?

311

:

Do we not pay taxes?

312

:

Uh, and this time Jesus says, Hey, you

know what, get a coin for me, pull it out.

313

:

And so they do, and they say,

Hey, whose image on is on it?

314

:

And they say Caesars, and they G Jesus

responds here with something that is.

315

:

Is more telling than

initially meets the eye.

316

:

He says fine.

317

:

Render to Caesar the things

that are Caesar's into God,

318

:

the things that are God's.

319

:

This wasn't Jesus.

320

:

Just simply saying, Hey, pay your taxes.

321

:

This is actually Jesus saying

fine, whatever, pay your taxes

322

:

here, but then understand that.

323

:

What does God own?

324

:

What are the things that are God's.

325

:

The answer to that is everything right?

326

:

And so everything belongs to him.

327

:

So, yeah, fine.

328

:

Give Don, give Caesar his money

for right now, but understand

329

:

that God owns everything.

330

:

So God is do God is worthy of

receiving everything from us.

331

:

And in the same way that his image

is stamped on the, on the coin.

332

:

So is the image of God stamped on every

person, which means that the whole person.

333

:

Your whole life is, is, is Christ.

334

:

Everything in all creation belongs

to him, certainly, but you,

335

:

especially because you bear his

image, you now owe yourself to God.

336

:

Yep.

337

:

And that, that's why it says in the text

that they Marvel as they go away from

338

:

him because the message was received.

339

:

They got it.

340

:

They got what he was saying there.

341

:

It was a great illustration.

342

:

It is.

343

:

He nailed it.

344

:

Yeah, jeez.

345

:

Good job, Jesus.

346

:

All right.

347

:

Uh, marriage in heaven.

348

:

Let's talk about that for a second.

349

:

Verses 23 through 33, the

Saudi sees come up to Jesus.

350

:

Now the Saudi seas were a group

who denied the bodily resurrection.

351

:

And in fact, there's a quote, according

to Josephus that said they believe the

352

:

souls disappear along with the bodies.

353

:

Uh, which fascinates me

because I'm thinking to myself.

354

:

Then what's the point.

355

:

I've of everything that you're doing.

356

:

Th they were those that were just,

they believed in nothing afterwards.

357

:

Annihilationists here.

358

:

Uh, but not just for the unbeliever

for everybody, they just didn't

359

:

believe in the resurrection.

360

:

And so they're talking to

Jesus and they present this.

361

:

Ridiculous scenario, trying to trap him

by thinking, okay, here's something that's

362

:

going to be impossible for him to answer.

363

:

And it's this woman who has.

364

:

Who marries, uh, seven brothers by the end

of it because each brother ends up dying

365

:

and she marries the next one in line.

366

:

Next one on line.

367

:

That's a good movie though.

368

:

Have you seen that one seven

brides for seven brothers?

369

:

Such a good movie?

370

:

Yeah, I was actually in

that musical in high school.

371

:

Really?

372

:

Yeah.

373

:

Which brother were you?

374

:

I was a suitor.

375

:

I was one of the bad guys.

376

:

Figures.

377

:

Well, bless your beautiful height.

378

:

Thanks, man.

379

:

Keep it going.

380

:

Yeah.

381

:

You know.

382

:

So Jesus' response is, is one where he

indicts their error as one of ignorance

383

:

of the scriptures and the power of God.

384

:

And he redefines things for us.

385

:

And he says, looking in

heaven, people don't marry,

386

:

nor are they given in marriage.

387

:

Um, it's not going to exist in

eternity the way that exists today now.

388

:

I'm of the belief that we will have a

unique relationship still with our spouse.

389

:

Any eternity that is, is not necessarily

a marital covenant relationship, but.

390

:

We'll still be snuggling on the couch.

391

:

I don't think you're

going to be like, dude.

392

:

Hey, life was great

with you, but peace out.

393

:

I'm going to go hang out

with other people now.

394

:

Um, but it's not.

395

:

Marriage has meant to mirror the

gospel and that's his purpose here

396

:

on earth and in heaven and eternity.

397

:

It's not needed in the same way.

398

:

So yeah.

399

:

Um, I'm not here to bear commentary

on exactly what your marriage is going

400

:

to look like in heaven or what your

relationship with your, your earthly

401

:

spouse is going to look like there.

402

:

I don't know.

403

:

I guess at the end of the

day, I do know people.

404

:

You're not going to get there

and be like, here's your wife.

405

:

Because even for those that have had

multiple spouses here through the

406

:

death of somebody and they remarried.

407

:

Yeah.

408

:

Right.

409

:

I mean, that's kind of that's,

that is the situation here.

410

:

And Jesus is saying, that's not going to

be an issue there, which is why I don't.

411

:

I think he might still have a.

412

:

The close relationship in the sense

that you and I might have a close

413

:

relationship there that'll, that'll still

extend beyond our natural life, but.

414

:

It would be hard to conceive of that,

given what you just brought up, because if

415

:

you have a closer jury sitting between the

two that you married in, in life, right.

416

:

I would, I would think that you wouldn't.

417

:

And as much as it pains me to think

that I have to trust that God's

418

:

gifts are going to be greater in the

new, the new heavens and new earth.

419

:

Then what I presently

experienced is it points to that.

420

:

It must be that the consummation of Jesus

and the church is going to be so good.

421

:

And so transcending of

my current understanding.

422

:

That it will be like, well, this

is obviously the better way.

423

:

As much as it hurts me to think my

relationship with my wife will be

424

:

fundamentally different in heaven.

425

:

Um, I have to believe it's

going to be a better thing.

426

:

Yeah.

427

:

Fair I can.

428

:

Yeah, I see that.

429

:

I see that.

430

:

But Jesus is basically knocking

down their, their opinion there.

431

:

And then he quotes from the old Testament.

432

:

Uh, to say, Hey, you guys don't even

understand the scriptures because.

433

:

God y'all way reveals himself to

Moses as the God of Abraham, Isaac,

434

:

and Jacob, which is present tense.

435

:

And that's the point there he is the

God not, I was the God of them because

436

:

they're dead, but he is implying that

he's the God of the living, not the dead.

437

:

In other words, that they

are not dead but alive.

438

:

And if they're alive, where are they?

439

:

They're with him in that instance.

440

:

Uh, because he is still

presently there done.

441

:

All right from here, we get the

greatest commandment verses 34 through

442

:

40 famous section here where Jesus

again, is the attempt to trap him.

443

:

And they say, what's the

greatest commandment.

444

:

He says, you know, it, the

greatest commandment is the love

445

:

the Lord, your God, with all

your heart, mind and strength.

446

:

And the second is like, it.

447

:

To love your neighbor as yourself

on those to hang the entire law.

448

:

So Jesus answers perfectly

again, defeats them in that.

449

:

And there's a lot there that we

just don't have time to dive into,

450

:

but I mean, love God love others.

451

:

That's what it boils

down to for all of us.

452

:

In fact, all the 10 commandments

classify themselves in one of those

453

:

two categories, they're either

love for God or love for others.

454

:

And that love for others is an

overflow of our love for down.

455

:

Versus 41 through 46, then,

uh, Jesus then turns the tables

456

:

and asks a question himself.

457

:

He says, Hey, whose son was David?

458

:

How can David say that the

Messiah would be his son?

459

:

And yet also his Lord.

460

:

And so he challenges them.

461

:

They're unable to answer the question

themselves, but really what, what

462

:

Jesus is after there is he's after

showing, Hey, th the, the concept of

463

:

the Messiah as the son of God, which

you guys are all up in arms, that I've

464

:

been calling myself, the son of God.

465

:

But if.

466

:

David referred to his son as the Lord.

467

:

Then, you know, There's

something there that maybe you

468

:

need to rethink on that front.

469

:

All right, mark 12.

470

:

Uh, mark 12, we have a lot

of parallel ground here.

471

:

In fact, most of it is I think

in except, uh, just the very end.

472

:

So it opens verses one through 12 with

the tenants, parable attendance, again.

473

:

Um, the, the tenants here

are those that, that.

474

:

Uh, we're entrusted with property that

belongs to God and, uh, or to the king.

475

:

The ruler that killed those that were

sent, they abuse those that were sent

476

:

in and ultimately they kill the son.

477

:

Of the, the owner of the vineyard.

478

:

And, uh, they, this parable Jesus

says, was told in relation to the

479

:

leaders and they get it verse 12.

480

:

Uh, they were seeking to arrest him, but

fear the people for, they perceive that

481

:

he had told the parable against them.

482

:

So they left in one away.

483

:

So Jesus is not just defending

himself, but on the offensive

484

:

in this section quite a bit.

485

:

Yeah.

486

:

And it's, it's interesting to

note that they, they, they do

487

:

get some of what he's saying.

488

:

It's like they, they understand enough to

be offended, but not enough to be trans.

489

:

I don't know, transformed by what he's

saying, because there's so much here.

490

:

I wish I could.

491

:

And if I had a time machine, I would

love to just sit and watch how this

492

:

actually happened because my mind's eye.

493

:

I struggle between thinking like they're

these no, at all arrogant people versus.

494

:

I don't know.

495

:

They, they, they they're, people

they're fully, orbed complex people.

496

:

And I would love to have seen how

he interacts with them in person.

497

:

So much of what Jesus has to.

498

:

I would love to hear the tone

in which he says these things.

499

:

Um, I imagine it's patient and

kind and gentle, but there are

500

:

times when he kind of just.

501

:

Tongue lashing them.

502

:

Anyway.

503

:

It would have been interesting to see.

504

:

Is my point.

505

:

Yeah.

506

:

I'm with you.

507

:

I would agree with that.

508

:

Although, wouldn't you be tempted

to like jump out of the corner.

509

:

And be like guys, guys, guys.

510

:

No, no, no.

511

:

You don't understand no way I would.

512

:

I would watch it and

savor every moment of it.

513

:

In fact, I'm hoping that there's like

a, uh, you know, virtual reality,

514

:

something where I could kind of

scroll back in time and watch it all.

515

:

I think that'd be a great gift,

apple vision pro in heaven.

516

:

I I'd accept that.

517

:

Yeah.

518

:

Although it wouldn't be apple

probably cause the whole garden.

519

:

Eating thing.

520

:

Bye.

521

:

Yeah.

522

:

Anyways.

523

:

Uh, the greatest commandment or, well,

he goes taxes in verses 13 through 17.

524

:

Again.

525

:

Render to Caesar.

526

:

What is Caesar's to God?

527

:

What is God's?

528

:

And then again, his interaction with

the Sadducees about the question of the

529

:

resurrection that's verses 18 through 27.

530

:

So this is what we've just covered.

531

:

Um, Then it gets greatest

commandment again.

532

:

Now mark expands the, uh, the response

from the person that Jesus was talking to.

533

:

And Jesus actually commends this guy.

534

:

It's a fascinating statement.

535

:

He says you are not far.

536

:

From the kingdom of God.

537

:

Uh, and so you wonder maybe

this guy was one of the ones

538

:

that eventually came around.

539

:

Just trust in Christ at that point.

540

:

It's an interesting

statement to include it.

541

:

If, if not, Um, But who knows?

542

:

Maybe we'll get again, a story in heaven.

543

:

We'll run into the guy and he'll be

like, I'm that guy I'm going to ask.

544

:

Yeah.

545

:

Find out.

546

:

Yeah.

547

:

Uh, versus 35, 3 37, then we get

back to the, who was David's son.

548

:

Um, how can you be David's son?

549

:

David's Lord again, like we just

talked about there and then the

550

:

warning of the, about the scribes.

551

:

Now this is going to be

detailed much more for us.

552

:

I think in tomorrow's

episode with the woes.

553

:

Because Jesus is about to go off on them.

554

:

Um, but he's warning them.

555

:

Uh, the disciples about listening

to them about following them

556

:

because of their hypocrisy, their

arrogance, the pride fullness.

557

:

And then he says they devour

widow's houses, and then he points

558

:

after this to a widow's offering.

559

:

And that's how the chapter ends.

560

:

Um, in verses 41 through 44.

561

:

Uh, and in this Th there's been

conflicting interpretations here.

562

:

Some people say, man, this

is Jesus is condemning this.

563

:

Seeing this is horrible, that

they're, they're even forcing this

564

:

widow to give her last two mites.

565

:

Uh, to what was going on in the temple.

566

:

I, I don't see that.

567

:

I think Jesus is commending

this, I think she's the same.

568

:

She's getting more.

569

:

Uh, which is what he does say here,

that then all of the Pharisees combined,

570

:

um, and, and you even see the, her

generosity, she's got two coins.

571

:

I think there's significance there.

572

:

She could have kept one coin back for

herself and she had need, and yet she

573

:

gives both, she puts both in the, the.

574

:

Uh, the box there and, and Jesus

seemed, this is a good thing too.

575

:

Uh, her trust, her confidence in the

Lord to provide for it is worth so much

576

:

more than what the fares would offer.

577

:

I could see how someone could

come from the other direction.

578

:

Cause he D he.

579

:

He does acknowledge what she's doing

as, uh, giving out of her poverty.

580

:

But I could also see how someone would

see this as being part of the predatory

581

:

practices of the scribes, the Pharisees,

and saying, look, you have to give

582

:

when she was the one who deserved that.

583

:

She deserve the help.

584

:

And you don't.

585

:

I mean, yes, he does say that

I'm with you on that part.

586

:

He does say they in contributed

out of their abundance.

587

:

She contributes out of her poverty.

588

:

And he does.

589

:

This is a, he does say blessed

are the poor in spirit.

590

:

So I could see how maybe there might

be a connection there, but man,

591

:

I struggle with saying this as a,

as a, as a way to say, look, you

592

:

should give like the widow gifts.

593

:

I think she's commendable.

594

:

Right?

595

:

But not because.

596

:

Uh, her, her soul is right, even

though the action I think is wrong.

597

:

Yeah, I think it's a both end.

598

:

Um, Yeah.

599

:

And part of it comes

down to how we interpret.

600

:

She has put out of her poverty

has put in everything she had

601

:

is that she had to live on.

602

:

Right.

603

:

Is that a hyperbolic

statement or is that Jesus?

604

:

Saying, you know, This is

literally everything that she had.

605

:

This is every last penny that she had.

606

:

Well, she's called it poor widow.

607

:

Yeah, and then they can, she

contributes out of her poverty.

608

:

And then he elaborates

everything she had to live on.

609

:

And then he says it again

to clarify or everything.

610

:

She had comma, all she had to live

on, or it seems to me like he's

611

:

going into as a way to say, look.

612

:

She's obliterated.

613

:

Yeah, she's going to die.

614

:

Unless someone steps in.

615

:

Right.

616

:

That's my impression.

617

:

And that's why I, yeah, I can understand.

618

:

I as MacArthur who got

me on this, like, okay.

619

:

I think he's right.

620

:

Because the context sounds like he's,

he's, he's excoriating this grads

621

:

for making this predatory practice

something that's living this poor widow.

622

:

So vulnerable now.

623

:

Yeah.

624

:

Yeah, it's interesting.

625

:

He's one of the few that, that

make that note, um, RT France.

626

:

Doesn't neither does a.

627

:

Um, William Lane, Craig,

um, well, William Blake.

628

:

Or William Lane.

629

:

Sorry.

630

:

And I was going to say.

631

:

William Lane in.

632

:

And I see.

633

:

So, yeah.

634

:

Yeah, it's possible.

635

:

Yeah.

636

:

Anyways, do it.

637

:

That what you will.

638

:

Uh, but let's pray.

639

:

And then we'll be done with this episode.

640

:

God, we thank you for marriage on earth.

641

:

As I'm thinking about having

just talked about the fact that

642

:

marriage in heaven is going to be

so different in, in non-existent.

643

:

Uh, we, we trust that you're good

in that, but in the meantime,

644

:

Thanks for marriage on earth.

645

:

Marriage is so good here, and it's such a

blessing to us to have that and to be able

646

:

to, to enjoy that into mirror the gospel

through our relationship with our spouse.

647

:

And, uh, we just.

648

:

Because that guy, I guess, to

stir in us a greater affection to

649

:

be with you to same in heaven is

going to be even better than this.

650

:

And that's going to be so good

and so amazing and so much better.

651

:

And so we, we long long for

that, we confess our inability to

652

:

fully wrap our minds around that.

653

:

But we trust you in that.

654

:

And so help us to do that yet.

655

:

We pray in Jesus name.

656

:

Amen.

657

:

Amen.

658

:

I attended again tomorrow for another

episode of the daily Bible podcast by.

659

:

Bye.

660

:

Bye.
