The news cycle moves so quickly, it’s hard to keep up with what’s going on in the cybersecurity and open source communities. On top of that, the mass media platforms give cursory coverage to the real news and focus on sensationalistic breach and ransomware stories. That’s where “It’s 5:05!” is filling the gap.

This is Mark Miller, Executive Producer of “It’s 5:05!”. I’ve been in the technology industry since 1996. Along the way I’ve worked  with many of the people creating the open source projects that are the foundation of modern application development. I’ve worked and consulted for cybersecurity companies, and am an active member in the DevOps and DevSecOps communities. Through these types of relationships I’ve developed a network of professionals who are constantly monitoring what’s really going on underneath the hood of the technology industry. We’ve decided to come together under one show to bring you daily audio updates of the news that interests us and influences how we think about cybersecurity and open source.

You might recognize some of the people involved. Each day at 5:05pm ET, we’ll bring the news that we found interesting that day, in short segments so you can quickly filter through to see what interests you. For each episode, there is a page with links and resources mentioned in the show.

We want to make it easy for you to keep up with the news the way we do. Each of the contributors to the show are specialists in what they do and will give you a unique slant on the day’s technology news.

We have five to ten segments each episode, each segment by a different contributor from around the world. We currently have contributors in the UK, Romania, Australia, and the United States, with the intention of expanding our contributor network to include reporters on every continent. 

So that’s what we’re doing: a daily cybersecurity and open source update featuring stories from around the world, available Monday through Friday, at 5:05 pm ET.
