Nathan:

To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? 31 It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; 32 but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.”

Jesus. Mark 4:30–32. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 12 of 30 Days Reflecting on the Kingdom. Two critical kingdom principles. The kingdom ideas at first appear small, even insignificant—especially up against the power systems of earth. Especially up against the towering problems of social inequity. Of injustice. Of racism. Of the killing of the innocent. Of the disregard for the immigrant—legal or illegal. Up against staggering corruption. Sky-rocketing healthcare costs. Or, closer to home, shattered relationships. Dying loved ones. The Good News? Is that all you can offer? You expect that to do something about this? Well, yes. See, this Good News about the kingdom thing, appearances are deceiving. Once it get’s deep-root in a person’s life—it grows, maybe even imperceptibly until it begins to provide shelter and hope and strength to everybody within it’s widening shade. A small thing? Yes. Powerless? Not in the slightest. Good? To it’s core.
