“You’re not meant to suffer. You're meant to feel freaking amazing.”

–Dr. Wendie Trubow

What’s really making you sick? We are exposed to toxins everywhere, all the time, and it’s making us sick. Some of these things we aren’t even aware of. Dr. Wendie Trubow is on a mission to keep others from suffering as she has.

Dr. Wendie came back from a trip to France and gained nine pounds, lost half the hair on her head, got a rash on her face, and brain fog and fatigue. She’s a functional medicine trained doctor, so she checked her thyroid, her hormones, her gut … and everything was checking out fine. Turns out she was exposed to massive amounts of lead when she visited Notre Dame, which had recently burned.

Further exploration showed her other toxins in her body, which led to change. We dive into where toxic come from and what you can do to support your health. And this reminder is important: This is a journey. You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to change everything all at once.

We talk about:

  • Different ways we are exposed to toxins—what we put in our mouth, what we put on our bodies, and what’s around us in the air, our cars, our furniture, our houses
  • Choosing one thing to replace as you are running out of it
  • Low hanging fruit: taking off shoes, getting rid of scented things, filtering air, running a fan if you have a gas stove
  • How things we associate with age are often us getting more inflamed because we’ve had more exposure and build up to toxins
  • Tests to have if you are sick
  • Specific ways to cut out toxins in the home, food, and what you put on your body

DOABLE CHANGES

At the end of every episode, we share three doable changes, so you can take what you've heard and put it into action. Change comes from action.

Doable changes are things that you can add into your life, one at a time to make micro shifts and really create a ripple effect that will create a big change over time. Remember this isn’t about perfection, but shifts that make a difference. Choose something easy to start with.

Here are three Doable Changes from this conversation:

  • STOP WEARING SHOES IN THE HOUSE. Your shoes pick up pesticides, heavy metals, dirt, and more. When you take your shoes off at the door, you stop tracking things throughout your house. You can ask people who visit to do the same.
  • REPLACE ONE THING. Pick one thing you are running out of to replace with a cleaner version. Need more shampoo or window cleaner or laundry detergent? Research a cleaner version and buy that. Once you do, keep buying the new product. The next time you are running out of something, look for a better option.
  • REDUCE PLASTIC USE. Replace plastic water bottles with stainless steel. Replace plastic storage containers with metal or glass. Plastic covers are okay if you don’t fill containers right to the top. Let food cool before covering.
